jordi1983I have an idea, and I want to know do you all think, wouldn't it be cool to have a PPA containing daily builds for the last ati r6xx/r7xx 3D support in order to be tested on ubuntu, and this way helping to speed up their stabilization and development?00:27
BUGabundojordi1983: doesn't the ppa for x-testers already provide trunk drivers?00:28
rskiyeah but they are pretty outdated afaik00:29
BUGabundohow can trunk be outdated?00:29
jordi1983Which is the url? I think I've checked that PPA today00:29
jordi1983I've read on the Phoronix forums that the only way to check out this code is through the git repositorya00:30
BUGabundoplease wait00:33
jordi1983if by x testers you mean xorg crack pushers there isn't the r6xx 3d support branch, is the master branch00:33
BUGabundo  https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates/00:33
BUGabundo   https://edge.launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa00:34
BUGabundothread https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2009-April/028181.html00:35
BUGabundojordi1983: ^^^^^^^^^00:35
jordi1983these packages doesn't provide 3d for r6xx/7xx, they provide EXA and xvideo00:37
jordi1983there is a branch now called r6xx-r7xx-3d at the xorg git that provides DRI support for that video cards00:40
jordi1983look: http://www.x.org/wiki/radeonhd%3Aexperimental_3D00:40
BUGabundoyou have to talk to the #ubuntu-x guys00:41
BUGabundoI don't do video00:41

jordi1983thanks00:41
BUGabundomaybe cwillu wants to help you out00:41

BUGabundomiss you dude00:44
BUGabundowhat's new?00:44
cwillujordi1983, dunno, the first line of that link seems pretty direct and to the point :p00:44
* cwillu pokes BUGabundo with a stick00:44
* BUGabundo feels so much better00:45
jordi1983there it explains how to build and install the files but I'd like somebody to do the packaging in a PPA I don't know how to do it, I think there is a lot of dependencies and things you need to know to package a video driver in the right way00:48
jordi1983you know DRM, DRI and so on...00:49
cwillusorry, back and forth between channels :p00:49
jordi1983yep, sorry00:50
jordi1983maybe it would be better to discuss this on #ubuntu-x00:50
cwillumore likely to get useful answers there :p00:51

tgpraveenHew: do you notice anything different from jaunty08:38

tgpraveenany changes except newer version  of packages in karmic right now?08:38

tgpraveenk.anybody else any changes?08:39
Hewtgpraveen: What changes are you looking for? Visual changes aren't likely to be around for a while. New package versions are the main thing.08:40
tgpraveenany changes implemented in notify-osd08:40
tgpraveendid the support for media keys in notifyosd get implemented08:41
Hewtgpraveen: UDS hasn't even happened yet, it's very early days in terms of new features and release goals08:41
tgpraveenhmmm..yeah I guess so08:41
Hewat this stage it's Debian syncs to get excited about :)08:41

tgpraveenyou knw by the time uds takes place and completes its nearly time for alpha 2 release and I think feature freeze is at alpha 5 or 6 something08:42
Hewno change between Jaunty and Karmic08:43
tgpraveenso new features really have less time08:43
Hewmy experience is the Ubuntu/Canonical developed features seem to appear a few days before FeatureFreeze08:44
Hewbut for new major releases of software, yes that just follows the release schedule08:44

kevixsorry to bother folks, but I have an upgrade issue that is not something that the usual #ubuntu folks will catch. I upgraded to Intrepid. shortly after I rebooted, 'overflow' was created for /tmp. the root fs is not full but some FS error? is reporting it as 100%. I have had this specific error when I upgrade to a new stable release before.19:33
kevixrm'ing files on the root fs does not create space.19:35
BUGabundohumm19:35
BUGabundoaren't there a few virtual mount points ?19:35
BUGabundomaybe those are the ones you are seeing ?19:35
kevixwhen the system boots up it see that the root fs is reporting 100% and uses a routine in /etc/init.d/ to create an 'emergency' /tmp19:36
kevixso its not the regular file systems19:37
kevixor the expected ones for the kernel19:37
albert23kevix: Is your disk more then 95% full? The last 5% is reserved for root.19:38
kevixthe issue is that if I remove files from / (root) it does not fix the issue as I had more than 700mb free before this error started19:39
albert23how large is the total fs?19:41
kevixalbert23: I think it was 20gb unformatted. but the size of the FS or the actual space left are not the issue.19:42
albert23kevix: 5% of 20GB is 1 GB reserved for user root. You will see space coming available if more then 1GB is free19:43
geserinodes are also still available?19:43
kevixgeser: I checked the inodes. many thousands left19:43
kevixalbert23: my system was working fine (with 600mb free) a few reboots ago. so the issue happened after 'something' upgrade19:45
kevixi tried using an older kernel, I tried modifing the fstype from ext3 to ext2 and back to ext3. no change.19:49

BUGabundocalc: LOL22:59
* calc < is old23:00
RichardWolfVII mean, how is it a "partial" download system?23:00
BUGabundocalc: yeah you now seem older then I though23:01
calcBUGabundo: how old is that? :)23:02
BUGabundono idea23:02
calci mean how old are you23:02

poseidonIf we do get a theme update this release, when would we start to see it?23:04
BUGabundoposeidon: you are coming late to the discussion23:04
kn100ubuntu needs a theme update urgently23:04
rskiwhen it's uplaoded to the repos?23:04
rskikn100: it has one23:04
BUGabundowe already explain we are not getting a new theme23:04
kn100yeah the dust one, but its not very good23:04
kklimondaBUGabundo: we dont? :/23:05
kklimondaBUGabundo: damn..23:05
BUGabundokklimonda: I mention this every week. by now you should know23:05

BUGabundothe Design team is not yet complete23:05
kn100i would love to join23:06
calcah yes i am older than you23:06
kn100i have some experience in gfx23:06
BUGabundoso only 10.04 is expected to gain a new theme23:06
BUGabundocalc: eheh who isn't ?23:06
kklimondaBUGabundo: Somehow I've missed it every time :d23:06
BUGabundokn100: apply23:06
BUGabundothere are opening for job on canonical23:06
BUGabundokn100: http://webapps.ubuntu.com/employment/23:07
kklimondaBUGabundo: that's kinda sad.. I mean New Wave is nice but I'd love to see some major rework in art..23:07
poseidonBUGabundo, searching the web it seemed like a new theme was the only thing expected out of this release23:07
BUGabundocalc: question remains: how older?23:07
BUGabundoposeidon: it _was_ expected but is now delayed23:07
calcBUGabundo: i'm 3223:08
poseidonso what should people be told to expect from the new release?23:08
kklimondaposeidon: We'll know more after UDS probably..23:08
poseidonWell a new theme would kick of the lts rather nicely23:09
kn100poseidon you gotta understand theres nobody to make it23:09
kn100or very little people23:09
BUGabundoposeidon: only 10.04 OR 10.10 will be LTS23:09
* calc thinks it will proably stick to 10.0423:10
BUGabundokn100: are they dwarfs ?!?23:10
BUGabundocalc: not sure... debian sync and release23:10
BUGabundobut they tend to not make the shcedule23:10
BUGabundoso you better go for our23:10
poseidonEither or, I would like to see a new theme for the lts.23:10
BUGabundokklimonda: PVT23:10
kn100is there a guide to making a new theme23:11
* poseidon is horrible with graphics. Thats why he always has to get them off the internet for his games23:11
calcthere are other reasons to stick to 10.04 but i think it will be discussed at either this UDS or next (not sure when)23:11
BUGabundokn100: #ubuntu-art23:12
BUGabundoor similar23:12
calcthere definitely is work being done on a new theme but it takes a lot of work so might not make 9.1023:12
calcnot sure if it will be a different color or just work fdifferently though23:12
BUGabundowell KDE has what? 3 guys on it?23:12
BUGabundoand Pinheiro does most of it23:12
BUGabundoand they release every 6 months23:12
BUGabundoalthough 4.3 will not have a new theme23:13
calcall i have seen is a mockup and i can't comment further but it is being worked on for ubuntu23:13
calcso don't worry the theme will improve when the work is done :)23:14
* BUGabundo calc is full of secrets!23:14
BUGabundogotta love all this about community, right?23:14
* BUGabundo hides from flames23:15
