josh_I have an addon soundcard in addition to the onboard sound. Even though the onboard sound is disabled, ubunto's alsa config keeps picking it up as if it were active. How can I keep alsa from loading the drivers for the onboard chip?00:03
dgs_disabled in the bios?00:18

castlec__hello all.  I have mythbuntu running with the diskless server.  Before I started using the diskless server, I tested out remote front-ends and they worked fine.  I have since changed my machine to a static ip for the diskless server and can't get the front-end working.  No UPNP servers found.  Can anyone help?02:27

Seeker`does mythbuntu have VDPAU support?16:56
tgm4883williammanda, yea for a bit18:07
tgm4883Seeker`, not in 0.21, but if you run trunk it does18:08
Seeker`hmm18:08
Seeker`am going to be building a new mythtv box with an intel E5200 and an Asus P5N7A-VM (nvidia 9300 based) mobo18:09
tgm4883well you can run the weekly trunk builds to have 0.22, or 0.22 might be included in 9.1018:10
Seeker`how stable are the weekly trunk builds?18:13
* Seeker` is hoping to be able to use audio over HDMI too18:16
tgm4883i'm not sure, I myself don't run trunk18:16
tgm4883foxbuntu, has a test box though18:16
williammandatgm4883, I having trouble with the xorg on a intel 865 video machine.....18:17
tgm4883what issues?18:17
williammandawoeked ok in 8.1018:17
williammandablue screen where the video should be,,,,sound is ok18:18
williammandawant xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log?18:19
tgm4883sure18:20
williammandahttp://pastebin.com/m549302c6       Xorg log18:21
williammandahttp://pastebin.com/m2c29db41    xorg.conf18:22
tgm4883what resolution are you running at18:22
williammanda1440x90018:24
* Seeker` is really looking forward to the better themes in 0.2218:24
tgm4883Seeker`, so is everyone else18:25
williammandathat log file looks like crap18:25
tgm4883Seeker`, you can track 0.22 progress here http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/roadmap18:25
tgm4883williammanda, do you have compiz enabled?18:26
Seeker`oooh, cool18:27
williammandatgm4883, is that set under pref>appearance>visual effects? if so ...it is set to none18:28
williammandagnome desktop18:28
tgm4883yea it's set there I believev18:28
tgm4883you might have to log out and back in to take effect18:29
williammandaits been set that way....I do that on install18:29
tgm4883williammanda, so all video is blue then?18:30
williammandayes ,,,,where the video should be.....its all blue18:31
williammanda4:3 or 16:918:34
foxbuntuSeeker`, no need to run trunk to get HDMI Audio/Video18:36
tgm4883williammanda, wasn't this working yesterday?18:36
foxbuntuSeeker`, trunk is "trunk" it likely o be unstable18:36
tgm4883+1 to that18:37
foxbuntuSeeker`, although at this point it hasn't been too bad for my testing18:37
Seeker`foxbuntu: I want to playback 1080p, and it seems that VDPAU is the only sensible way of donig that without spending £100 more on a processor18:37
tgm4883IIRC, non of the mythbuntu devs run it for production18:37
foxbuntuSeeker`, what processor?18:37
foxbuntuSeeker`, as in which one do you have ow18:37
foxbuntunow*18:38
Seeker`I'm going to be getting an Intel C2D E520018:38
Seeker`which is about £5018:38
foxbuntuyou should be able to step up one or two steps in the intel chain for not allot more18:39
Seeker`it has been suggested that you would need something more like an E8400 to guarantee smooth playback, which is about £13018:39
tgm4883there are some unofficial 0.21 VDPAU packages, but I must stress that you will NOT get support for them18:39
foxbuntuSeeker`, for a Frontend + Backend system, I would agree18:40
Seeker`thats what  I'm planning on building18:40
foxbuntuSeeker`, I would  spend the extra cash on the E8400, you will be much happier with it in the long run18:41
Seeker`VDPAU would seem to be a way of doing it without spending an extra £80 on a system that I'm spending < £300 on in total18:41
Seeker`hmm18:41
foxbuntuSeeker`, VDPAU wont help with commflagging and other backend tasks18:42
williammandatgm4883, sorry didn't see your post.....this is another machine...just using it foe a frontend18:42
williammandatgm4883, this is my upgrade to 9.04 weekend for everything18:44
Seeker`foxbuntu: I would actually be tempted to buy the E8400 and use it for my main desktop, and relegate my desktops E6750 to my mythtv box18:44
Seeker`maybe18:44
foxbuntuSeeker`, why? do you game on your main PC?18:45
Seeker`yes18:45
Seeker`and work on stuff like a raytracer18:46
foxbuntuyou could likely get away with the e7400 in your myth box18:46
foxbuntuSeeker`, ultimately, its up to you at this point, my advice is to spend the extra money and not rely on VDPAU18:47
foxbuntuVDPAU is a great feature, but in a FE + BE box, it should not be relied upon18:48
Seeker`7400 should be able to cope with 1080p as well?18:50
foxbuntudepending o the number of streams and such...I think it __should__ be ok18:51
foxbuntuSeeker`, or get a Q820018:53
foxbuntubout the same price as the E840018:53
Seeker`hmm18:54
Seeker`only 2.33GHz instead of 3GHz though18:54
Seeker`does mythtv spread the decoding over multiple cores?18:56
foxbuntuyup18:59
foxbuntuworks fine18:59
foxbuntuI have stress tested the E8400 and Q6600 in myth boxes and have had great results19:00
Seeker`was either of them a clear choice over the other?19:03
foxbuntuthe Q6600 preformed far better than the E8400 in HD video and CommFlagging, but that to be expected between Dual-Core and Quad Core19:07
Seeker`so a Q8200 may actually be a better chouce than the E8400?19:09
foxbuntuyes19:10
Seeker`interesting19:10
foxbuntuclock speed is no longer the only factor in processor selection19:11
tgm4883hasn't been for a while19:13
foxbuntunope19:13
tgm4883williammanda, is the blue video in the menu's, or during playback, or both?19:15
williammandamenus are ok....only playback of any live tv or video19:19
Seeker`foxbuntu: may go for the Q8200 then, its £10 cheaper than the E840019:25
foxbuntuSeeker`, you will be wise to do so19:26
Seeker`foxbuntu: what proportion of the time do you find trunk unusable?19:26
foxbuntuSeeker`, I had to fight trunk orignally because of the themes...I really suggest staying away from it for a production system, lots of changes get pulled in on a weekly basis19:29
Seeker`hmm ok19:29
tgm4883williammanda, whats the output of  "glxinfo | grep direct"19:30
Seeker`I guess with a Q8200 I can do comm flagging and HD playback without VDPAU, which negated the need for rtunk19:30
williammandatgm4883,  glxinfo | grep direct19:32
williammandasorry19:32
williammandadirect rendering: Yes19:32
foxbuntuSeeker`, indeed19:32
Seeker`that'll be an Asus P5N7A-VM, Q8200, 2GB corsair RAM, Hitatchi Deskstar 1TB, Sony DVDRW and an OCZ power supply :)19:34
Seeker`£36719:34
foxbuntuwilliammanda, cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf | pastebinit19:34
foxbuntuSeeker`, not bad...good system19:35
Seeker`would be even cheaper if i lived in the US it seems19:37
tgm4883foxbuntu, he did19:37
tgm4883http://pastebin.com/m2c29db4119:37
williammandahttp://pastebin.com/f2a47068b19:41
Seeker`I really should try to do some mythtv development20:01
williammandat21:26
williammandatgm4883,  any luck with xorg.conf?21:27

coopshey22:23
coopsI'm trying to connect my television set to ubuntu22:23
coopsI bought a VGA -> Scart cable, that I've plugged in22:23
coopsbut the TV doesn't give any picture, no matter what I set in display22:24
coopsi've been going at this for weeks, if anyone had some time to help me it would be greatly apprichiated22:29
coopsmy TV out didn't work with the open source ati drivers, the propetary ati drivers where broken, and now my VGA to scart cable doesn't seem to work at all22:30
williammandaHeys guys.....is there another way to designate any primary tuner other than during the installation and the recording setup?22:35
tgm4883williammanda, no idea on the xorg.conf22:38
tgm4883williammanda, what are you intending to do with primary tuners?22:38
williammandaI have two tuners in the MB22:40
williammandapchdtv 5000 and Dvico hdtv gold pcie....22:41
williammandaThe pcie tuner always defualts to #1....matter if I install mythtv with only the pchdtv tuner22:41
williammandawhen I install the pcie tuner after the pchdtv tuner...the pcie tuner becomes #!22:43
dgs_oh, williammanda: if you recall yesterday talking bout my 1080p jagged font issue - i changed the mode from 1920x1200 to 1920x1080 and it seems to have improved a little, but still far from smooth. the dpi is now 100x100 (which i think is what it should be). i'm pretty sure the tv at least is running at 1080p now as it come up with that on the screen when I jump to that res... any other ideas as to what I could try?22:49
coopscan anyone please help me23:00
coopsall I'm trying to do is connect a tv to either TV out on my radeon card, or to vga using a VGA <-> Scart cable23:01
tgm4883!weekend | coops23:01
Zinncoops: It's a weekend.  Often on weekends a lot of the community may not be around to answer your question.  Please be patient, wait longer than you normally would, or try again during the week.23:01
coopsno it's not weekend, it's monday..23:01
tgm4883it's a weekend in the US ;)23:01
tgm4883where a majority of the users are23:02
tgm4883actually, almost a majority23:02
tgm4883williammanda, there are some settings to tell live tv to use the last tuner, that may be what you are looking for23:02
tgm4883williammanda, actually, it's the tuner that is least likely to be used next for scheduled recordings23:02
williammandaI think I found a way around it.....swapped tuners in MB & SB23:10
williammandathe pcie tuner has to have a higher video signal23:11
williammandatgm4883, any other avenues I could take for the xorg?23:12
tgm4883williammanda, you could try the xorg-edgers PPA23:12
tgm4883https://edge.launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa23:13
tgm4883other than that I don't know23:13
