ign0ramusWalzmyn, just ask dude00:00
ahmoshi, i wanna download mdict but i can't find it in repos.00:00
WalzmynWhat's the content of your config file: /etc/X11/alright, I was goofing around with my desktop (trying to figure out what the heck activities are) and when i switched back to desktop from the appearance settings, all of the widgets were messed up, i can move them but a few seconds later they snap back. help?00:00
Walzmyncoreymon77 (n=coreymon@ubuntu/member/coreymon77) has joined #kubuntu00:00
Walzmynwhoa,00:00
ign0ramusWalzmyn, come again?00:00
Walzmynign0ramus: paste went screwy00:01
ign0ramusWalzmyn, aha... what did you want to say?00:01
WalzmynWhat's the content of your config file: /etc/X11/default-display-manager ?00:01
Walzmynsorry, was tyring to make sure I spelled everything correctly :)00:01
coreymon77Walzmyn: huh?00:01
Walzmyncoreymon77: you refering to my real question or when this thing pasted in something from my pidgin conversation?00:02
coreymon77you pinged me00:02
ign0ramusWalzmyn, /usr/bin/kdm00:02
Walzmynign0ramus: ok. somehow i got it set to gdm, which is in /sbin - I was just making sure I got it back right00:03
ign0ramuscoreymon77, he didn't mean to... he accidentally pasted something with your nick in it00:03
Walzmyncoreymon77: ok, i see what it did, it pasted what i had highlighted in here.00:03
coreymon77okay00:03
Walzmynign0ramus: thank you00:03
ign0ramusWalzmyn, does "sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm" allow you to reset normally?00:03
Walzmynign0ramus: it had not been. but i just opened that file and it was correct, so i guess 9th time was the charm00:04
ign0ramusWalzmyn, as long as you're set now :)00:04
* Walzmyn nods00:04
Walzmynall of this just to show a guy what gnome looks like. not sure it was worth it!00:05
ign0ramusWalzmyn, didn't i suggest the above command to you yesterday?  It didn't work?00:05
Walzmynign0ramus: was that you? no, it just left that file blank00:06
ign0ramusWalzmyn, strange. I wonder if your settings will stick.00:06
Walzmynign0ramus: i uninstalled gdm, re-installed, then used that command again - it seems to have worked this time00:06
* Walzmyn shrugs00:06
ign0ramusWalzmyn, yeah, well, gdm is necessary to reconfigure it ;)00:06
phoenixzI just created a bridge with a configuration in /etc/networking/interfaces. Now I changed the configuration, and I did service networking restart but tit says that br0 already is configured. How can I remove this bridge?00:09
ign0ramusphoenixz, "man brctl" ?00:10
phoenixzign0ramus: thanks!00:14
ign0ramusphoenixz, you found what you needed?00:14
phoenixzign0ramus: I think so.. just a weird thing, I deleted first the device from a bridge00:18
phoenixzign0ramus: but then I wanted to delete the bridge00:18
phoenixzign0ramus: and it gives me bridge br0 is still up, cant delete it..00:18
phoenixzign0ramus: how do I bring it down??00:18
phoenixzjust ifconfig again?00:18
phoenixzifconfig down :)00:19
ign0ramusphoenixz, you can try that... what did you use to create and enable the bridge?00:19
phoenixzign0ramus: added configuration in /etc/networking/interfaces.. then service networking restart.. but yeah, I gottit, they're gone.. thanks!00:20
ign0ramusphoenixz, glad to hear :)00:20
Shadozeign your printscreen method has made alot of people happy ;)00:22
ign0ramusShadoze, you've been spreading the word?00:24
ShadozeIndeed a few of my kubuntu rl friends have noticed the screenie absence00:25
ShadozeNow all of them can screeny thanks to you :P00:25
Walzmynwhat's the print screen method?00:26
ign0ramusShadoze, nice.  it's nothing special, but a little irritating.  glad others like this solution :)00:26
Shadozeign, take the lead :P00:26
ShadozeYeah lol alot of them like to mass screenshot so it's handier than ksnapshot00:26
ign0ramusWalzmyn, it's just a simple way to hit the PrtScrn button and it will place a .png of your screen on your Desktop, named in Unix seconds, so as not to overwrite any other screenshots00:27
ign0ramusWalzmyn, the PrtScrn function in KDE 4 doesn't work OOB (at least not in my experience)00:27
Walzmyncool. What app are you using to do it?00:27
ign0ramusWalzmyn, scrot (in the repos)00:27
ign0ramusWalzmyn, i first tried with imagemagick, but it doesn't work well with Plasma :(00:28
Walzmynthe one or two times i've need a screenshot, ksnapshot wasn't too hard to use, but i'll keep that in mind00:28
ign0ramusWalzmyn, well, if you want, we can set you up... only takes a couple minutes00:28
Walzmynlater: skyping with my mom00:28
ign0ramusWalzmyn, family first :)00:28
Shadozeign, do yo uknow the proper way to set the bootsplash up?00:31
ign0ramus!usplash | Shadoze00:31
ShadozeSay, if i wanted a different image00:31
ubottuShadoze: To select the usplash artwork you want, use "sudo update-alternatives --config usplash-artwork.so && sudo update-initramfs -u" - See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/USplashCustomizationHowto for adding your custom artwork00:31
ShadozeDamn, i did that last time00:31
Shadozeit came out as 8bit horrible mess lol00:31
ign0ramusShadoze, and that didn't work?00:31
ign0ramusShadoze, are you getting them off www.kde-look.org?00:32
Shadozeyeah i wanted this one: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Kubuntu+Air+Usplash?content=10510000:32
ShadozeFollowed his instructions too00:34
ShadozeI "may have mistyped one thing" but is there an easy way to revert it to the default incase all goes wrong?00:34
ign0ramusShadoze, and what was the result?00:34
ign0ramusShadoze, just about anything is fixable in linux :)00:34
ign0ramus*almost*00:34
ShadozeI know customisation of everything is a huge advantage, but is also a major trap for new people :S00:35
ign0ramusShadoze, so you were able to compile and install the theme(s)?00:36
acastilmhello all00:37

WalzmynShadoze: lock them00:54
ShadozeThey seem to be attracted to folder view00:55

wharrgarrbl_can someone help me with font rendering? some of my fonts are rendered in a wide way now01:00
ign0ramusShadoze, i tried that usplash, and it doesn't work well for me either... the only one that displays is meant for very low resolutions :(01:19
ShadozeYup, same problem i got :(01:20
ShadozeDespite doing it correctly i think01:20
ShadozeWell, according to his instructions01:21
ign0ramusShadoze, the version that should work for my resolution ("big" ; 1280 x 800) only generates errors01:21
ign0ramusShadoze, if you issue: "more /etc/usplash.conf" , does it list your correct resolution?01:22
Shadozeyes :)01:25
Shadozexres=102401:25
Shadozeyres=76801:25
ign0ramusShadoze, and you did "make install" ?01:25
ShadozeI havn;t installed it yet ( last time was my ext3 kde)01:26
ShadozeSec, ill do it right now01:26
ShadozeFinally it's downloaded01:35
ShadozeRight, gotta reboot a sec, brb01:37
ShadozeNope, dosnt look too nice01:41
ShadozeAnd has a horrid blue bar at the bottom01:41
ign0ramusShadoze, you know you can test usplash without rebooting, right :)01:41
ign0ramusShadoze, yeah, i had that too01:41
ShadozeAny ideas how to get it to work?01:41
ShadozeNo i didn't know you could do that :)01:41
ign0ramusShadoze, fix his code :)01:41
ign0ramusShadoze, "sudo usplash -c" will test your splash; "ctrl+alt+f7" will bring you back to your graphical environment ;)01:42
ShadozeHmm cheers that worked :) And dang, any way to revert to the standard one for now?01:44
ShadozeIll see if i can get his one working in the meantime too01:44
ign0ramusShadoze, "sudo update-alternatives --config usplash-artwork.so && sudo update-initramfs -u" and then pick the default one (should be #1)01:44
ShadozeThanks mate, your a star01:46
ign0ramusShadoze, well, that's one thing i've never been called before ;)01:46
ign0ramusShadoze, and now you know how to test it quickly to make sure its working, too :)01:47

contrastannma: you could have started with that :P10:25
Mamarokannma: can't reproduce it in KDE 4.3 beta here:10:25
annma[11:19] <annma> hi, anyone with KDE 4.3 beta 1 could see if you reproduce this bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=171916 thanks!10:26
annmacontrast: I did10:26
Mamarokchanged the icon size in toolbar, saved the settings, close and reopened Konqui again, settings still there10:26
annmaMamarok: OK so the size is kept10:26
annmaOK10:26

annmabecause if not either the config file would have been rewritten or not read10:26

rojwanQuick question: Is there a keyboard shortcut for 'Show Desktop'?10:29
Mamarokrojwan: you can set it jourself: systemsettings -> Keyboard&Mouse10:31
contrastrojwan: kind of - Ctrl+F1210:31
Mamarokyourself*10:31
* Mamarok needs a tea10:31
rojwanoh cool, thanks10:31
rojwanI have some Lipton Yellow Label tea, I'd make you some, you've earned it ;)10:32
contrastMamarok: which KDE component would that be under in Global Keyboard Shortcuts? because i'm not seeing it under KWin or Plasma10:32
yao_ziyuandoes the apt packaging system have a 'delta' feature?10:33
Mamarokcontrast: I guess so10:33
Mamarokcontrast: should be in Kwin though, no?10:34
contrastone would think so10:34
annmait's in the plasmoid settings itself10:35
annmayou have Show Dashboard in Plasma10:35
Mamarokannma: what plasmoid? show desktop button when you have your screen covered with windows10:35
contrastahh, i figured that out right as you said it, annma10:35
contrastMamarok: right10:35
Mamarokthat's not the dashboard, he wants to see the actuall desktop10:35
annmaMamarok: an applet lets you see the desktop10:36
contrastMamarok: there are two different plasmoids, Show Desktop and Show Dashboard10:36
annmayou need to set the shortcut in the Show Desktop applet config10:36
Mamarokoh, theres one for that too? Great!10:36
rojwanYes, although once you've set the shortcut in the Show Desktop widget, the shortcut cease to work when the widget is closed10:37
contrastit seems that the shortcut key for most of the plasmoids does absolutely nothing though10:37
rojwanI've searched in system settings, keyboard & mouse, but didn't find 'show desktop'10:37
contrastrojwan: add the Show Desktop plasmoid to your desktop or panel, right-click on it -> Settings10:38
annmacontrast: rojwan said taht when you remove the plasmoid then the shortcut ceases to work10:38
annmawhich is true10:38
rojwanyes10:38
Mamarokwhy don't you add it to the panel?10:38
contrastahh, sorry. i should just shut up10:38
rojwanMamarok, i've tried that, and for some reason it wouldn't dock to the panel anymore10:39
rojwani must be forgetting something10:39
annmarojwan would like the shortcut defined as default like "Show Dashboard"10:39
Mamarokrojwan: what KDE version do you have?10:39
annmasometimes docking in the panel is dodgy10:39
rojwanthe latest version, i downloaded it two days ago10:39
annmaensure you did not lock the widgets10:40
rojwanokay, unlocking and retrying10:40
contrasti'm off. peace out10:40
Mamarokrojwan: I added the widget to the Pnael, the added the shortcut Meta+x and it works10:40
annmahaving a preset global shortcut would be nice probably10:40
Mamaroktoggles desktop view10:40
rojwanI see10:40
MamarokPanel* even10:40
rojwanit used to work just yesterday, but now when i drag a plasmoid over the panel and drop, it stays above10:41
rojwanwidgets are unlocked10:41
Mamarokrojwan: edit the panel and add the widget there10:41
annmarojwan: I have trunk and it works10:41
Mamarokworks here in KDE 4.3 beta10:41
annmamaybe something went wrong for you in config, mine is nearly defaults settings10:42
rojwani edit the panel by clicking the yellow thing all the way to the right?10:42
annmayes10:43
annmathen Add Widgets10:43
rojwanaha! it worked, thanks annma!10:45
rojwani wasn't dragging to the right place10:45
