jeremywiebeHi there... just trying to install Mythbuntu 9.04 via Wubi and am stuck on the Graphics Drivers screen.  No matter what selection I make the Back/Forward buttons remain disabled.  I found a bug on Launchpad that seemed related, but it's marked as fixed (https://bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/+bug/362419/+viewstatus).02:12
Blzhey guys, quick question:  the US uses NTSC, right?03:22
BlzSpecifically I want to enable composite video out on an NVIDIA card.  Is NTSC-M what I want?  I'm on the east coast of the US.03:24
BlzAlso, another question:  Which connecton degrades quality less:  coax or composite?03:27
hadsComposite03:35
Blzhads:  is it a significant difference?03:36
BlzI ask because I'm going to have to hook up my set top box to an analog capture card (PVR 150)03:36
hadsRF < Composite < Component/VGA/DVI03:36
Blzand i heard that degrades quality03:36
hadsSure it will.03:36
Blzi'm watching SDTV on a CRT set though03:36
Blzso i dunno how severe it's going to be03:36
hadsBest to use the S-video input. It will degrade the least on the PVR15003:37
Blzhmm. i dunno if i have access to that03:37
Blzi don't think my stb has an s-video out03:37
Blzit has coax and composite03:37
Blzlet me check03:37
Blzyeah. coax and composite only03:38
Blzhow bad do you think it'll be?03:38
Blzmaybe I just won't transcode my shows to mp4...03:38
BlzCan anybody help me with configuring myth to work through a motorola set top box with an IR blaster?  I'm kind of stuck04:22
BlzSo far I've installed myth and selected the aprorpriate option for my remote (windows media center new version) and  the IR blaster option (PVR150 pci w/ motorola cable box)04:23

d110__I've just installed mythbuntu 904 and tuned my cards, when I go to Watch TV it just returns to the main menu13:49
d110__if I however stop the mythbackend and start the mythbackend as the user then I can watch TV13:49
darthanubisseems your user is not part of the mythtv user group?13:52
d110__yes my user is part of the mythtv group13:54
d110__Ah I think it's my recording directory13:55
d110__I setup a new partition for recordings using the XFS file system13:55
d110__that was it13:56
d110__I changed the group on my recordings dir to mythtv and now it's not a problem13:57
d110__thanks for giving me the tip i needed13:57

EssobiMorning!14:18

BlzI need some guidance in setting up my mythtv font/backend server with an IR blaster (motorola cable box -- comcast digital cable).  I would like to use the coax in on my pvr150 to record analog data from STB, but so far I haven't been able to scan for channels.  I tried setting /usr/bin/ch_change.sh as the external channel changing command, but that didn't work ... What am I missing?15:53
BlzI can provide more information if necessary15:54
foxbuntuBlz, if you use the RG6/coax cable to the PVR it should not come out of your cable box, if you need/want to record your analog digital cable you should use the Composite Video inputs on the PVR-150 instead16:17
foxbuntuBlz, then you can use a serial cable from your backend -> cable stb to change the channels16:17
Blzfoxbuntu:  oh i see...  So it just won't work via coax?16:17
BlzI don't have a serial port on my STB16:17
foxbuntuBlz, get a serial -> usb adapter16:18
foxbuntuBlz, its far easier than an IR blaster16:18
rhpot1991firewire16:19
Blzfoxbuntu:  maybe I'm missing something, but all I have is coax out and RCA Composite out16:19
Blzout of the STB that is16:19
rhpot1991I thought serial to usb was a dtv only thing?16:19
Blzthis is digital cable16:19
foxbuntuBlz, there should be a DB9 serial port on the moto box16:19
Blzthere's not.16:19
Blzit's a really small box16:20
foxbuntuBlz, thats really strange then16:20
foxbuntuBlz, well then use the IR blaster16:20
Blzthat was the idea, unless I can trade it in for a normal stb16:20
foxbuntuBlz, but the previous statement is the same16:20
Blzabout using RCA composite?16:20
foxbuntuyup16:20
Blzokay, I'll try that16:20
foxbunturun RCA stb -> PVR-15016:21
Blzand I use ch_chan.sh right?16:21
Blzfor the IR blaster?16:21
foxbuntuwhatever works with your particular ir blaster16:21
Blzit's the ir blaster that comes with the pvr150 MCE ... i'm not sure what that requires16:21
BlzI tried looking on the mythtv wiki but i couldn't find much...16:22
foxbuntuim not sure off the top of my head16:22
foxbuntui think you can just use irsend though16:22
Blzdo you know where I could look?16:22
Blzirsend is the command?16:22
foxbuntuyea16:22
foxbuntucheck out the mythtv wiki16:22
Blzokay i'll give that a try.16:23
Blzotherwise I'll  just see if i can trade in my stb for a classic one.  I have no idea why they gave me the midgit version16:23
foxbuntu:)16:24
rhpot1991Blz: those are the new ones16:24
Blzrhpot1991:  do they still play nice?16:25
rhpot1991dunnos16:25
Blzffffffffffffuuuuuu-16:25
Blzwell I guess there's only one way to find out16:25
Blzso let me just recap to make sure I'm not missing anything...16:25
foxbuntuBlz, rhpot1991 can hardly keep cable online much less test new stuffs16:25
Blzlol yeah what's wrong with you rhpot1991!!??16:26
rhpot1991heh16:26
Blz=)16:26
Blzbut anyway... coax to STB, composite to PVR15016:26
rhpot1991forgive me for wanting my credit I was promised :)16:26
Blzhaha actually rhpot1991 has helped me numerous times...16:26
foxbuntuBlz, you got it16:27
Blzand in the settings I just set it up as I normally would, with my schedules direct bit?16:27
Blzand try irsend as the external channel changing command16:27
Blzoh also, what channel format do i need to select, if any?16:27
foxbuntuBlz, yeah..in the input connections setup be sure to select the PVR-150 composite input16:27
BlzI saw weird stuff like us-cable-hrs or something like that16:27
foxbuntuBlz, defaults work for that16:27
foxbuntuBlz, us-cable or us-broadcast16:28
Blzfoxbuntu. awesome. thanks16:28
Blzrhpot1991:  also many thanks16:28
Blztime to get my hands dirty...16:28
rozonDoes mythbuntu's MythTV-fixes packages include support for DVB-S2 HD channels? I don't get a lock on the transponders on 1W that transmitts the HD channels I want...16:37
superm1rozon, if they are in 0.21-fixes upstream then yes16:38
superm1if not, then no :)16:38
rozonwell... are they? :)16:38
superm1i'd ask in #mythtv-users.  i'm not absolutely positive myself16:39
rozoncool... I'll do that, thanks... :)16:39

BlzQuestion:  when going through mythtv setup, I can usually only see about half of the option descriptions at the bottom before the text runs out of the box ... how do I scroll to see more?23:27
BlzAnybody?23:36
BlzI'm sure it's something obvious...23:36
