CoJaBo-AztecDaskreeCH: I tried Jaunty on an EeePC, and it had significant graphics issues, appears that Intel card support is broken. Also KPackageKit is completely broken on that system. I've also noticed that Kubuntu is pretty far from being ready to use as a Windows replacement :/00:00
ign0ramus!intel | CoJaBo-Aztec00:00
ubottuCoJaBo-Aztec: Ubuntu 9.04 has a known regression for some Intel graphics support. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/IntelPerformance and http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1130582 for more information.00:00
* ign0ramus has intel chipset too :(00:01
DaskreeCHCoJaBo-Aztec: I think that the default install is broken for intel if you turn on backports there should be a fixed driver (I hear)00:01
DaskreeCHCoJaBo-Aztec: Not sure what's broken for you with kpackagekit00:01
CoJaBo-Aztecign0ramus: I know. Due to the other issues, I decided to stick with Hardy rather than fix the Intel issues :(00:01
CoJaBo-AztecDaskreeCH: The Kpackagekit error was "A problem we were not expe".00:02
ign0ramusCoJaBo-Aztec, i had Hardy too (skipped Intrepid altogether), and loved it.  But now, with some work, my graphics are *almost* as good as on Hardy00:02
DaskreeCHCoJaBo-Aztec: Oh god yeah I hate that :) Yeah trying to smooth that stuff out00:03
CoJaBo-AztecOn this computer (dell laptop), it works most of the time, all other systems fail with that error almost all of the time.00:04
compilerwriteris there a good way within kde to find out exactly which card I have serraphyn.  I have forgotten the model?00:06
XetHello please sorry the bother but It doesn't load after the splash screen, just the black background and the mouse wheel00:06
CoJaBo-AztecThe major improvement on this system was installing "wicd" instead of NetworkManager. NetworkManager is even more broken than KPackageKit o_O00:06
DaskreeCHCoJaBo-Aztec: There is an explanation for that. NEtworkmanager hasn't had a first release yet00:06
DaskreeCHSo it's software that is not even out00:06
ign0ramuscompilerwriter, lspci will tell you.  you should be able to grep for a specific keyword, but i don't know what that would be00:07
CoJaBo-AztecDaskreeCH: And yet its the default for the final release of Jaunty :/00:07
=== root is now known as Guest61222
DaskreeCHIt was put in because Ubuntu is moving to the new NM and the KDE3 version doesn't support it00:07
DaskreeCHThe NM was workable for 80% of the situtations so the SVN was pulled and packaged00:07
DaskreeCHCoJaBo-Aztec: transitation of NM is the culprit for that one  :)00:08
ign0ramusDaskreeCH, that's why there's wicd ;)00:08
DaskreeCHBut on the upside a lot of the issues that were found will now be put into the final release which happens before 9.10 so you will have much nicer time going out00:08
DaskreeCHign0ramus: Isn't choice grand?00:08
Xetplease I don't know what's happening,  It doesn't load after the splash screen, just the black background and the mouse wheel00:09
CoJaBo-AztecDaskreeCH: The least they could have done was remove the parts of the GUI that dont work. I expect the "buttons are just painted on" effect to be fixed by the time the software is out of alpha lol00:09
ign0ramusDaskreeCH, bless FOSS!00:09
compilerwriterThanks ignOramus00:09
ign0ramuscompilerwriter, you got it?00:09
CoJaBo-AztecYeah wicd is excelant, even has scripting support and most impotantly all buttons do something when clicked! lol00:10
mib_b9avndi cant hear anything when i use audacity00:10
ign0ramusCoJaBo-Aztec, i've been using it regularly since Hardy.  First thing i do is get rid of NM :)00:10
mib_b9avndwicd is the only thing that worked for me with wpa200:10
compilerwriterI will be doing an lspci here shortly thanks for that info.  Got I hope kde slowdown is just because of a bad video driver.00:10
compilerwriterKpacakgeit seems to be broken as well.00:10
mjaooodamn i just installed kubuntu and its way to buggy for me00:11
ign0ramuscompilerwriter, if lspci doesn't show it, 'sudo lshw' certainly will00:11
max_Can someone please help me change my Locale. I've tried just about everything to change my time to 12hr format and cant do it.00:11
DaskreeCHCoJaBo-Aztec: They work for some people. some people were very happy with it00:12
DaskreeCHXet: Look in~/.xsession-errors00:12
Mamarokmax_: system settings -> Region & language -> Tim & Date tab00:12
max_Mamarok: That was the first thing i tried. Its set to pH. The clock displays 12hr formatting, but everything else that looks to my locale to get formatting uses 24hr.00:13
mib_b9avndany thought, audacity wont make any noise when i hit play00:13
CoJaBo-AztecDaskreeCH: NetworkManager works fine if you only need default settings. Theres just no way to change anything like static IP, DNS, VPN, etc.00:13
Mamarokmax_: maybe restart KDE? some settings only take effect if the apps is restarted00:13
max_Mamarok: I have.00:13
DaskreeCHCoJaBo-Aztec: Static IP wsa a known issue00:13
DaskreeCHSo was hidden essid00:14
CoJaBo-AztecDaskreeCH: AFAIK, it was known in Hardy, still broke in Jaunty lolllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll00:14
Mamarokmax_: then I don't know, sorry :(00:14
DaskreeCH:-)00:14
MamarokCoJaBo-Aztec: beahve!00:14
kaddigood evening :)00:14
CoJaBo-AztecAlso it tends to make keys stick...?00:14
XetDaskreeCH: Sorry but what? I'm on a live cd how do I go to xsession-errors?00:15
DaskreeCHXet: Ah in that case restart the Cd and choose the safe video mode00:15
DaskreeCHhi kaddi00:15
ign0ramusmib_b9avnd, this isn't the best place for Audacity support, but did you try changing your sound source within the app?00:15
ign0ramusDaskreeCH, kind of an off-the-wall question, but can you get flash videos on The Onion to work?00:16
XetDaskreeCH: ok I'll do It thanks00:17
CoJaBo-AztecAnyone know why it would stick keys like that o_O00:17
CoJaBo-Aztecign0ramus: Are you using Adobe flash?00:17
ign0ramusCoJaBo-Aztec, yup. not the crippled free version ;)00:17
DaskreeCHign0ramus: not sure gotta run :) ask it in a more general fashion along with which browser you are using00:17
ign0ramusDaskreeCH, no big deal... have fun!00:18
CoJaBo-Aztecign0ramus: Some flash sites dont seem to work in onquror but work in Firefox. Also make sure JS and cookies are enabled o_O00:19
ign0ramusCoJaBo-Aztec, i've noticed that, but some sites will not play flash videos in Firefox, Konqueror, or Opera.00:20
=== root is now known as Guest85079
* ign0ramus can't wait for html500:21
CoJaBo-Aztecign0ramus: Some require Internet explorer, or need cookies or javascript enabled :/00:21
ign0ramusCoJaBo-Aztec, i know i used to be able to watch videos on the Onion web site, but not since Jaunty... 99% of other Flash sites work fine :/00:22

CoJaBo-Aztecign0ramus: There are some Firefox extensions like DownloadHelper to download the video, that tends to work for me when sites dont play lol00:23
ign0ramusCoJaBo-Aztec, yeah, and most videos invariably end up on youtube anyway, which works fine for me ;)00:24
CoJaBo-Azteclol00:24
=== root is now known as Guest37588
CoJaBo-AztecAverything ends up on youtube eventually lol00:24
mib_b9avndign0ramus: i did try changing sources00:24
ign0ramusCoJaBo-Aztec, unfortunately O_o00:24
mib_b9avndit was OSS, i set it to ALSA intel which is what muli settings say i have00:24
ign0ramusmib_b9avnd, and...?00:25
mib_b9avndwell i had an error before00:25
mib_b9avndnow it tries to play00:25
kaddiign0ramus theonion.com works fine here with firefox 3.0.11 and flashplugin-nonfree 10.0.2200:25
mib_b9avndbut still no sound00:25
kaddiso you should be able to get to watch those videos.. I'm not sure how though ;)00:25
ign0ramuskaddi, must be something in my config, although i am using adobe-flashplugin....00:25
kaddiah, that might be the difference then ;)00:25
ign0ramusmib_b9avnd, check the Audacity forums or their irc channel ... I really don't know much about it00:26
ign0ramuskaddi, i'll try uninstalling and using your package00:26
mib_b9avndis it freenode?00:26
mib_b9avndaudacity00:26
ign0ramusmib_b9avnd, i don't know... it's probably listed on their site somewhere00:27
mib_b9avndok thank you00:27
ign0ramuskaddi, hmm... purged my package, installed flashplugin-nonfree, checked youtube (works fine) checked the Onion (flash player shows up but video never loads)00:30
ign0ramuskaddi, same thing in Konqueror and Opera00:31
CoJaBo-Aztecign0ramus: Have any ad blockers?00:32
kaddior noscript?00:32
ign0ramusCoJaBo-Aztec, yes, but i've tested them all and have tried firefox in safe mode ... no luck :(00:32
ign0ramusCoJaBo-Aztec, and Opera and Konqueror are default installs with no added settings, but can play flash, but not from this particular site00:33
CoJaBo-AztecWeird..00:33
kaddihave you ever installed the alternatives to flash? maybe it's some leftover making proglems?00:33
ign0ramusCoJaBo-Aztec, yeah, it's more of a puzzle for me to solve than it is missing out videos from the Onion... just noticed this was one site that could reproduce ineffectiveness00:34
kaddi*problems00:34
ign0ramuskaddi, i've purged all flash-related apps, and now have only 'flashplugin-nonfree' installed00:34
ign0ramuskaddi, hmmm... can you view any videos on www.wimp.com ?00:37
ign0ramuskaddi, this is another site that used to work, but now no videos play...00:37
CoJaBo-Aztecign0ramus: Does it load the flash player just without the video?00:38
kaddiign0ramus works fine as well...00:38
ign0ramusCoJaBo-Aztec kaddi, weird.  yeah, the player shows up, but the video never loads, and site is "done" loading :/00:39
ign0ramusi'm checking my flash settings right now00:39
CoJaBo-Aztecign0ramus: What happens if you visit the FLV URL directly: http://www.wimp.com/loadvideo/504785377bc6c341e0f0b411d906b45f/4a3abc38/eee904e96f901bd7afdb3499a55c6566_mirror.flv00:40
kaddiign0ramus the following plugins are actually installed on my FF: java, default, demoprint plugin, quicktime, divx, shockwave, vlc & windowsmedio player plugin form totem apparently00:40
kaddithe last is rather suprising for me.. :p but maybe that's why it is working? ;)00:40
ign0ramusCoJaBo-Aztec, that prompts to download the .flv file00:40
=== alberto is now known as Guest66709
CoJaBo-Aztecign0ramus: Does it show the file type as FLV?00:40
ign0ramusCoJaBo-Aztec, yup00:41
=== Guest66709 is now known as alberto____
CoJaBo-Aztecign0ramus: Try saving it and make sure it gives a file larger than 21 bytes?00:41
ign0ramusCoJaBo-Aztec, yeah, that will work, but it doesn't solve the issue00:42
ign0ramusCoJaBo-Aztec,  kaddi, i have noticed something though, if i right-click a flash video and go into Flash settings, i can't check the "Enable Hardware Acceleration" button...00:42
CoJaBo-Aztecign0ramus: Does it save properly tho (not cutting off after a few bytes)?00:42
ign0ramusCoJaBo-Aztec, let me see00:43
ign0ramusCoJaBo-Aztec, it saves as a 9.9MB .flv file00:43
kaddiign0ramus this is checked on my pc.but i can't modify anything in the options, not even close it apparently ... i's buggy :D00:44
CoJaBo-AztecMine does not even open the flash options lol00:44
ign0ramuskaddi, mine is also checked, but i also can't click anything... (clicking does nothing)00:44
ign0ramusCoJaBo-Aztec, lol00:44
kadditab works :)00:44
ign0ramuskaddi, hmmm let me try that00:45
kaddibut I still can't unselect the hardware acceleration00:45
ign0ramuskaddi, i can tab to the options, but space doesn't uncheck it00:45
ign0ramusyou guys don't have to worry about it... it's not killing me, but i do like a good puzzle :)00:46
kaddiare you using compiz?00:47
ign0ramuskaddi, nope. no effects at all00:47
CoJaBo-AztecI can rotate Flash videos on the cube just fine lol00:48
ign0ramusapparenly you can adjust flash settings here: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager.html but i don't see anything for Hardware Acceleration00:48
CoJaBo-Aztecign0ramus: The only one I see that lists hardware acceleration is just an image..00:51
ign0ramusCoJaBo-Aztec, yep...00:51
kaddioh, one more thing, ign0ramus, I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem, but I disabled Ubuntu Firefox Modification add-on00:52
ign0ramuskaddi, even in Safe Mode which disables all add-ons but allows plugins (like Flash), the sites still don't work00:53

ign0ramusxp-killer, they should be sorted by memory or cpu or whatever... see what's eating up resources and kill it with fire!01:05
ign0ramusxp-killer, i prefer CLI, so htop is great for this ;)01:05

ign0ramuskaddi, i know :)  2.6.30 is excellent!  yeah, i think a new kernel (for regular folks) came through today01:46
ign0ramustehboriz, let me know how it goes.  you're essentially giving global read/write/execute permissions to your home directory.  and one last time, that is probably not the recommended way to do it01:47
tehborizokay thanks ign0ramus :)01:47

tehborizgonan try doing a relog to see if sound fixed02:12
picketfencesGood luck02:12
kadditehboriz: I don't know how you can check this.. I know that aptitude will show you unmet dependencies. When you type uname -a  into your shell it should show which kernel you're running, so you can see if the version you have is newer then the one you want to install02:16
tehborizcrap, sound only works when i'm root02:17
tehborizand that's stupid.02:17
kadditehboriz: apt-cache policy "package name" will also tell which version of package you have installed and which are available for download02:17

kaddisorry "linux-generic"02:18

dwidmannragarth: I feel really sorry for you, using a lexmark printer under linux :( How did you go about setting up the printer?19:10
draikDaskreeCH_: Never mind, I'm not offline. It's FF that is taking forever and a day to load19:11
ragarthdwidmann, it was really simple. I downloaded the linux drivers off the lexmark website and installed them. After that, I printed a test page using the lexmark utilities and a page from openoffice. Nothing else seems to work though.19:12
dwidmannragarth: Maybe you need to set it up in cups, if possible19:13
dwidmannragarth: either go to systemsettings -> printing or open a browser and go to http://localhost:63119:13
DaskreeCH_draik: sorry got a call do the ping19:14

dwidmannragarth: then roll with the web interface, it works well.19:16
draikDaskreeCH_: I was intrigued that I could ping myself so then I ping'd Google. That was successful so I kill'd FF and sure enough, it was a delay database response from the site that caused FF to take the blame for this down time on this occurence.19:16
ragarthdwidmann, go with the flow. :-) Is it possible for openoffice to bypass cups and print directly? Cups can't seem to print a test page, and when I checked the queue, that seems to have been where all my unsuccessful prints were stuck.19:17

Mamarokthierry: yaw :)19:45

ragarthdwidmann, I'm a printer idiot, what's lpr?19:46
dwidmann!info lpr19:46

ragarthdwidmann, Ah, righto. I'll try it. No, the only instructions given from lexmark were to unzip the drivers and sh ./ them.19:47
draikDaskreeCH_: OK, now the Internet is gone.19:48
draikDaskreeCH_: I can ping myself just fine19:48
DaskreeCH_draik: Can You ping your router ?19:48

Mamarokdwidmann: try arora, it's still beta but runs quite nicely here, not a single crash in 3 days19:50
geniiDaskreeCH_: Ping yourself! The diodes all down my left side are sore.19:50
dwidmannMamarok: arora is nice, but the lack of adblock craps on the experience for me19:50
DaskreeCH_genii: Any idea why you can ping yourself but not say your next hop in the network?19:50
peabodyI'm trying to import some songs into Amarok and fix up their ID3 tags but it's really buggy at handling this, is there a good alternative for fixing up large libraries?19:50
geniiDaskreeCH_: Wrong default gateway?19:50
dwidmannpeabody: try easytag19:51
Mamarokdwidmann: true, that sucks19:51
DaskreeCH_genii: no I don't think so it works for a few hours then disappears19:51
dwidmannpeabody: or maybe amarok 1.419:51
Mamarokpeabody: kid3 or easytag are best IMHO19:51
thierrybye to all19:51
Mamarokcu thierry19:52
peabodythanks I'll check that otu19:52
Mamarokpeabody: also, what Amarok version do you have now?19:52
peabodyMamarok:  219:52
geniiDaskreeCH_: Could be a few things. Mis-matched dhcp lease times between client and server... the next hop IP posibly changes.... overheating nic ...19:52
Mamarokpeabody: there is 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.0.2, 2.1.0 and 2.1.1, which of these?19:53
dwidmanntagging in amarok 2 is sssslllloooowwww as sludg19:53
dwidmann*e19:53
geniiDaskreeCH_: If a USB adapter, might be going to sleep/power-save mode19:53
Mamarokdwidmann: depends on your version19:53
DaskreeCH_draik: Is it a USB adapter ?19:53
peabody2.0.219:53
dwidmannMamarok: hmm, I suppose19:53
DaskreeCH_genii: No it's built in the MB19:53
draikDaskreeCH_: No, it's a built-in NIC to the MoBo.19:53
Mamarokpeabody: you reayl should upgrade then, 2.1 is in the jaunty-backports now19:53
dwidmannMamarok: 2.1 here19:54
Mamarokrealy"19:54
geniidraik , DaskreeCH_ My Gateway laptop ha a RTL8187 which is on the mb but is ALSO a USB one19:54
draikIt's sporatic. Sometimes I can't even connect when I login, other times I feel like I have a small window when I first login.19:54
Mamarokdwidmann: we just released 2.1.1 :)19:54
Mamarokdwinand if you like breaking things, try a local install of 2.2-SVN :)19:54
Mamarokor better: Neon19:55
dwidmannI think last time I tried to build amarok myself, I ran into issues related to qtscript or something, bu t I guess I'll try again later (gotta go to work in an hour or so)19:55
draikDaskreeCH_: I tried 'sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart' and that did not work.19:55
peabodyI just refreshed my package manager and I don't see it.. maybe because I'm in  europe?19:55
dwidmannwait, 2.1.1 is in backports, will try that first19:55
draikgenii: This issue started around mid-8.1019:56
geniidraik: If you do:  sudo dhclient -r eth0 && sudo dhclient eth0          (assuming eth0 as the name)   are you able after that to ping gateway/ next hop?19:57
draikOne sec while I try that out.19:57
dwidmannMamarok: hmm, looks like now when I try to tag w/4.1.1, it's at least as slow, with the added potential of hanging sometimes20:00
Mamarok2.1.1 you mean? Yes, that's because it rewrites the collection directly, that's why an external tagger is much faster for now20:01
Mamarokand both easytag and kid3 can tag automatically20:01
ragarthdwidmann, I posted to the forum, thank you for trying to help. Be well.20:01
rom1vwhat is the name of this application : http://pix.toile-libre.org/upload/original/1245438153.png20:02
peabodyEasyTag also sucks pretty bad at writing multiple tags at once. Can I really only click one file at a time? If I select an entire album, write in the album name and press save, they all move off the UNTITLED list momentarily, but only one track gets saved the rest end up back there when it refreshes20:05
peabodyalso when I try to close it wants to write to files that I've never accessed, scary stuff20:06
=== |Draglor| is now known as Draglor
dwidmannMamarok: seeing as you seem to be in the know, do you have any idea when speedy tagging might be coming back to amarok? also when we might see external mysql support again?20:10
Mamarokdwidmann: well, we would need somebody work on this, and so far nobody really does20:11
dwidmannI would if I knew what I was doing20:11
Mamarokand we are discussing external mysql right now, the problem is to get multithreading, so InnDB is out20:11
Mamarokwe need MARIA asap20:11
peabodywow kid3 is nice and very fast also seems to work like a champ :)20:11
Mamarokor whatever name is currently in the pipeline for the future20:12
rom1vhi again20:13
rom1vI installed systemsettings and I am able to change kde-apps fonts under gnome20:14
peabodyThe only thing I don't like about kid3 is that as far as I can tell, I can't sort the tree on the right by Artist/Album/track name20:14
l0wk3yhello20:14
rom1vbut the rendering is not the same (I can understand that), the problem is that firefox uses the rendering of kde configuration20:14
rom1vinstead of the one in gnome configuration20:14
rom1vhow to restore the default firefox fonts?20:14
draikgenii: I just realized I've been disconnected.20:15
Mamarokpeabody: well, that should be in the settings, no?20:15
* Mamarok prefers easytag20:16
draikgenii: What else would you suggest? I don't know if you got my last messages about the results.20:16
peabodyI don't see it20:17
peabodybut I did find the import from gnudb, that's nice20:17
peabodyI didn't even have the album tagged, and it found it and copied the id tag over20:18
peabodybut it only did v1 tag and not v220:18
geniidraik: What is the adapter name? eth0 wlan0 ath0       etc?20:19
draiketh020:19
peabodyMamarok: was alot of this library stuff fixed in 2.1?? Because even rescanned my library is crap, double entries and whathaveyou20:21
geniidraik: So you were using that same one to connect here I suppose when I gave you the release/renew IP commands20:21
peabodyI look at the file details and they are the same filename, but they appear in the library twice.. not cool20:21
GibsonGuyis this where the kubuntu wizards are to be found? :)20:22

Mamarokoops, wrong channel, sry20:22
MamarokGibsonGuy: hi :)20:23
GibsonGuyMamarok: hi :)20:23
draikgenii: I've always used eth0 and I don't know what is causing it to suddenly disconnect at random points.20:24
geniidraik: Ah, OK, good then.20:24
peabodyMamarok: I just changed my source from Germany to US server and it still shows 2.02 as being current.. what am I missing? Do I need unsupported updates enabled or soemthing?20:24
=== mikrox is now known as mikro
geniidraik: When it seems random/sporadic that usually indicates some hardware issue (overheating, cabling etc)20:24
Mamarokpeabody: you probably have to activate the backports repository20:24
peabodyo20:25
Mamarokpeabody: and backports are officially supported :)20:25
geniidraik: Did not get the output of those dhclient commands, incidentally (you must have been disconnected already)20:25
peabodyso why is it 2.0.2 only in the pre-release and 2.1 in the backports? That doesn't make sense :p20:26
Mamarokpeabody: pre-release?20:26
Mamarokpeabody: you are running 9.04, aren't you?20:26
draikgenii: dhclient command gave this at the end: "No working leases in peristent database - sleeping".20:26
peabodyMamarok: yeah20:27
geniidraik: It means it was unable to contact the router/machine which hands out the dhcp numbers. Cabling may be suspect20:27
draikgenii: The cable is good as it previously belonged to my laptop, which has never had a network issue. As for overheating, it can be a cold night when I boot the computer (after being off for at least 12 hours) and I don't get online.20:28
peabodyunless I put 9.10 on my laptop..20:28
Mamarokpeabody: 2.0.2 was the available version at feature freeze for the Jaunty release, so newer versions end up in the backports20:28
Mamarokpeabody: don't, Karmic is alpha nad will probably still break a lot till it is ready20:28
Mamarokand*20:28
GibsonGuyAnyone want to take a guess at why a fresh kubuntu install would completely freeze the machine on login? Video driver has been ruled out.20:28
draikgenii: If I reboot now, it will connect. No other changes take place, hardware-wise.20:28
peabodyyeah, I've got 9.0420:28
geniidraik: Then the next suspect is the router/box/whatever that gives out the dhcp numbers20:28
draikgenii: Ok. No issues with laptop, netbook or server on it, just the desktop. It is, however, 3 and a half years old (based on purchase date).20:30
draikgenii: Would it be OK for me to restart the desktop at this point or do you want to try something else?20:32
kde185peabody: http://www.kubuntu.org/news/amarok-2.120:33
geniidraik: Restart if you feel it needed :) I'm still suspicious of the cord. Maybe try it on one of the other boxes and see if it has issues getting a number as well20:33
draikSure, I can swap it really quickly for you.20:34
RiddellGibsonGuy: what do you need to know?20:35
draikgenii: I am using the one from the laptop which has been known to work for the past 2+ years. What would you like me to do/execute?20:36
geniidraik: Do again the:   sudo dhclient -r eth0 && sudo dhclient eth0       and see if it times out again, or else gets a number this time20:37
GibsonGuyRiddel: Trying to install on a particular machine, after you install and login20:37

GibsonGuyRiddell: Thereafter if you reboot, it freezes like that the second you log in20:38

GibsonGuyRiddell: Is there some way to go in text mode and delete the last session and set it to use a new session?20:38
GibsonGuyRiddell: That's the only try I got :(20:38
geniidraik: OK. Was it plugged into router at same place the notebook uses it from, or the plug the previous cord used?20:39
draikgenii: All I did was disconnect the laptop, then switch the cable plug on the desktop. Nothing changed on the router.20:40
geniidraik: OK. We've eliminated then the cord and router as far as I'm concerned as possible fail points.20:40
geniidraik: Do you have ethtool installed on that box?20:41
RiddellGibsonGuy: just because there's nothing in xorg.conf doesn't mean it's not an X issue (although doesn't mean it is of course)20:41
draikYes20:41
draikgenii: Yes, I do20:41
RiddellGibsonGuy: you should be able to do control-alt+F1 from the login screen to get to a command line20:41

sheepsySorry if this is a generic question. I think that there ought to be a simple answer for this but quick googling didn't turn much up. I'm trying to install kvm with vde on Jaunty. The package suggests vde2, I'm not quite sure how to get this going. Do I have to install from source? Do I have to find another repo that offers this? Or is there some other way to do this? In gentoo I would just tweak the use flag...21:36

boblenyHey, does anyone know how to enable or disable a prgame at start up? sort of like MS windows strart up programs menu?21:48
boblenyI'm asuming it is a text based list that ubuntu executes at startup. Any program in the list will then be started?21:50

Hjaernan_I have a problem with Amarok. I rip music in flac from CD, using K3B. It automatically puts ID3 tags on. I add to Amarok, and then Amarok starts playing each track at 20 to 30 secs from the start. VLC plays fine without trouble. What can the problem be? Is this a known bug?22:11

supernixactually the Ubuntu 9.04 it was all I had burned as I added KDE after installing Ubuntu22:40
BluesKajsupernix, http://www.thelinuxsociety.org.uk/content/reinstall-grub-using-live-cd22:41
supernixafter attending the South East Linux Fest and attending a lecture on the KDE4 I decided to go to KDE22:41
supernixah BluesKaj thanks a lot that hits the spot22:42
BluesKajsupernix, it worked for me :)22:42
supernixI am so frustrated I have a partition that was the original Linux that I installed at /dev/sda5 and now I decreased the windows partition so that I could make a larger partition and then I copied the old /dev/sda5 to /dev/sda4 but now it wont let me delete the /dev/sda522:46
supernixI am using gparted22:46
BluesKajdon't delete , reformat22:47

supernixanyone using ext4 yet?22:47
Unksisupernix: yeah been using for few months now22:48
BluesKajsupernix, i tried it but jaunty was unstable on it ...lots of crashes22:48
sean_supernix: I did (not in ubuntu) but not long and I noticed little difference22:48
supernixhmmmm sounds scary think I will just stick to the ext3 for safety sakes22:49
Unksino difference noticed here^22:49
supernixstability is a primary factor for using Ubuntu22:49
DragnslcrYeah, ext4 isn't quite ready for production use yet22:49
sean_supernix: If you are interested in speed you might set an eye toward some others too, like XFS22:49
supernixyeah I was wondering about xfs22:50

supernixwow BluesKaj I was running that setup routine that you told me about on that site but I am now confused22:53
supernixI am presended with (hd0,3) (hd0,4) and (hd1,4)22:54
supernixso now I don't know which one I am supposed to use22:54
BluesKajsupernix, hd0,3..usually the first partition22:57
BluesKajit resides on the HDD independent of the OS , so hd0,3 should work22:58
supernixhow can you correlate those with the /dev/sda% ?22:58
supernixhmmm ok thanks22:58
BluesKajnot to worry just follow the instruction22:59
supernixthat is really odd as I only actually have 2 hard drives on this system22:59
supernixoh no I forgot22:59
supernixI do have 322:59
supernixone is a usb external drive22:59
BluesKajinstall grub on whatever drive is setup to boot first , I would think23:01
