ubot4Launchpad bug 388714 in kpackagekit "Usability flaws in kpackagekit, Kubuntu Karmic Alpha 2, KDE 4.3 Beta 2" [Undecided,New]00:37
hggdhyou both should have enough bugs to qualify00:46
BUGabundohggdh: prob is, which ones LOL00:47
BUGabundoI don't bookmark them00:47
BUGabundoand usually I unsub from most after a few days or action00:47
BUGabundo*actions00:47
hggdhsuper__rad, done. Are you going to keep the bugs in NEW?00:47
super__radhggdh, what am I supposed to change them to?00:48
BUGabundotriage?00:48
hggdhsuper__rad, if the request is sane, and you verified them, you can put them on confirmed00:48
super__radok thanks00:49
hggdhadd a note stating you are confirming, and why00:49
* BUGabundo killall -i -O sigkill 68 brain-mater ; ~$ Are you sure you don't want Dreams instead?00:56
super__radhttps://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/341174 another wishlist01:12
ubot4Launchpad bug 341174 in k3b "cdrom permissions" [Undecided,Confirmed]01:12
super__radif someone posts a bug and then replys saying they solved it should I just change status to invalid or do I need to do something else?01:17
micahgsuper__rad: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Status01:18
micahghttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Bugs%20resolved%20after%20update%20or%20config%20change01:18
super__radthanks01:19
micahgmake the text appropriate for the situation01:19
micahgyou can mark invalid if there's nothing left for us to do01:19
micahgif it's still a bug, that they fixed with a config change01:19
micahgthen you can evaluate if the default might need to be changed01:20
super__radno i'll mark this one invalid, the bug was that cd's burnt with k3b wouldn't play in cd players but they posted saying they realised they were using cdrw's which the cd player didnt support01:21
micahgyep, that's invalid, good job01:21
super__radshould I add a comment saying changed status to invalid as it's been fixed?01:22
micahgyes, please say why you change a status01:23
super__radok01:23
micahgyou can say per last comment that the problem has been solved or something like that01:23
micahgthat responses page is good for general answers01:24
micahgbut they ussually need a few words changed01:24
super__radjust reading it now, must have missed it when I was reading through the bug pages01:26

micahgmorning07:12
micahggot a weird bug07:12
micahgbug 38302007:12
ubot4Launchpad bug 383020 in firefox-3.5 "Some input fields are several times longer than normal" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/38302007:12
waters33637Question: I think i might have found a bug ... However .. Im a newbie .. so im not sure .. what should i do?07:40
thekornmicahg, hmm, I remember a similar bug, let me try to find this one07:41
thekornhi waters33637, which version of ubuntu are you using, and to which application is your bug related07:43
waters33637ubuntu 9.04 .. and to X07:44
thekornmicahg, maybe this bug is a regression of bug 29306107:44
ubot4Launchpad bug 293061 in pango1.0 "The input text field of firefox is too wide/long" [Low,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/29306107:44
thekornmicahg, so most likely not a bug in FF but in pango, and maybe related to locale settings07:45
micahgthekorn: but this guy is using a US locale07:48
micahgand I'm running the same version of pango he is07:48
waters33637xorg ... told me to ask if the intel driver for 9.04 has a problem07:50
thekornmicahg, hmm, you are right,07:50
thekornmicahg, maybe you should ask the people in #ubuntu-mozillateam about this, they might know better07:51
micahg:)07:52
micahgno ones around07:52
micahgI'll ask in the morning07:52
thekornwaters33637, yes there are known issues with hardware from intel on jaunty,07:54
thekornthe releasenotes at http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes/904 have further details07:54
waters33637yeah .. im looking at that now07:55
waters33637got time to help a newbie with a workaround?07:55
thekornwaters33637, no unfortunatly not, maybe you find better support in #ubuntu07:56
thekornwaters33637, you can also create a bugreport by running `     ubuntu-bug xorg07:56
waters33637ok .. thanks for the starting point07:57
thekornI'm not sure if this is the correct package, but it should atleast fetch all neccessary informations07:57

charles_anyone here who can walk me through how to field a new ticket in the correct Ubuntu Way?16:02
charles_the ticket is https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/transmission/+bug/38926516:02
ubot4Launchpad bug 389265 in transmission "transmission crashed with SIGSEGV" [Medium,New]16:02
charles_crash appears to happen during a combobox popup16:02
charles_OP says it happens in T and Deluge; I've confirmed that it Works For Me in both T and Deluge16:03
charles_so I suspect it's a config problem16:03
plarscharles_: which version Ubuntu are you running on?16:09
charles_plars: I'm not the one experiencing the issue16:10
charles_plars: I'm one of the Transmission devs16:11
plarscharles_: yes, but you said that it's working for you... the person who submitted the bug appears to be running on Karmic... so I'm trying to determine if perhaps you are running on a different version16:11
charles_ah, I see.  I'm running on Fedora 11 with Transmission 1.72, Deluge 1.1.9, and GTK+ 2.16.216:13
plarscharles_: so, if you are one of the developers trying to fix it, you should probably take a look at the debug info there that has already been gathered and see if there is anything else needed.  It looks like there is some suspicion in this bug that it may be related to libgtk though, so if you can determine for certain where the bug is, that would be a great starting place16:14
plarsand if you can show that it is not in transmission, then it needs to be assigned to the right package16:15
plarscharles_: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/HowToTriage is a generally good place to start learning about the process for triaging bugs16:16
charles_thanks16:16

churlhello, i think i have a bug that i've only seen reported a few times (google searching) and it seems that no one is assigned to the bug, but was wondering if there might just be an easy fix to it instead.21:15
churli changed my resolution, and now totem doesnt work, and xorg runs really high when i, say, run a game or do anything with graphics21:16
churli'm trying to figure out if this pre-reported bug (Bug #357824) is really a bug or is it just a configuration issue.21:26
ubot4Launchpad bug 357824 in totem "totem no longer plays movies after resolution has been changed " [Medium,Invalid] https://launchpad.net/bugs/35782421:26
churlwell it seems to be valid for me mr bot21:27
BUGabundoguud evening o/21:47
BUGabundoguys we need to avoid this : https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fakeroot/+bug/389591/comments/321:52
ubot4Launchpad bug 389591 in fakeroot "Please sponsor fakeroot 1.12.4ubuntu1" [Undecided,Confirmed]21:52
BUGabundonew triagers counter rulling expereinced devs21:52
hggdhBUGabundo, the issue here is exactly that: new triagers, still confused with what is a bug and what is not. This is one reason I really like when they are present here (to IRC)22:08
micahgyes, new triagers need to be encouraged to ask22:10
BUGabundomicahg: +122:10
micahgheck, I still ask when I come across something new22:11
BUGabundohumm would any one else like to see LP show karma in stars or something per user , on reports?22:11
micahgno22:11
micahgkarma != experience22:11
BUGabundosome bugzillas do that, helping the other users distinguish how capable the poster is22:11
micahgkarma = action22:11
micahgnow, if it would flag a user as bug control, that's another story22:12
BUGabundohumm that's another bug22:12
micahg??22:13
BUGabundohttps://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/malone/+bug/3792622:13
BUGabundoor similar22:13
ubot4Launchpad bug 37926 in malone "Manage expectations about newly-reported bugs" [Low,Triaged]22:13
BUGabundomicahg: I've been discussion ideas to improve How lp helps you report bugs22:13
micahgah22:13
micahgcool22:13
micahgthat's apparently an old request22:14
BUGabundomicahg: like tipping (advanced users) if a package doesn't get any action from ubuntu devs22:14
BUGabundoso user should uptream the bug22:14
BUGabundomicahg: yeah, mpt refered me to it22:15
micahgwell22:15
BUGabundomicahg: see https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/malone/+bug/18283022:15
ubot4Launchpad bug 182830 in malone "Linking package to bug report doesn't suggest checking upstream" [Undecided,New]22:15
BUGabundomicahg: imagine this: user is reporting bug on FOOx. but no one has touched it in 1y.22:16
BUGabundo*if* the user is capable and knolable to upstream it, we should get it fixed faster22:17
BUGabundothen waiting some triager to do it for us22:17
micahgBUGabundo: that should be encouraged in a ny case22:17
micahgany22:17
BUGabundoactually, I think triaggers *should* be incitivated to upstream MANY more bugs then its done right now22:17
BUGabundowill mention that on the next meeting22:17
hggdhwell, they are... perhaps not so clearly, but they are. But I would expect a new triager to start small, and do more as confidence builds22:22
hggdhbrb. reboot...22:24
sbeattieBUGabundo: lp:launchpad-gm-scripts provides the lp_karma_suffix script, which inserts each users' karma next to their name in bug reports. bdmurray is working on packaging up the lp gm scripts, and would appreciate you testing them from the ppa at https://edge.launchpad.net/~gm-dev-launchpad/+archive/ppa22:27
BUGabundothanks sbeattie22:27
BUGabundothat was exaclty what I was looking for22:27
BUGabundosbeattie: btw its for jaunty... I'm on karmic22:28
sbeattieDoh!22:29
sbeattiewell, if you have greasemonkey enabled, you can install it directly from the bzr tree22:29
BUGabundo                                                            This add-on is  for older versions of Firefox                  installVersusDownloadCheck("installTrigger47282-20a17dcc", "Add to Firefox ", "Download Now ");                   recommended          https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/74822:29
BUGabundod'oh22:29
micahgBUGabundo: Karma != bug experience22:30
BUGabundoat least archive has the latest version22:30
BUGabundomicahg: I know22:30
BUGabundobut its one messure we have22:30
BUGabundowe don't have one for bug exp, afaik22:31
micahgIt would be better if certain group icons were displayed22:31
hggdhI agree. I, for one, never really worried about being recognised (by karma, points, or medals)22:32
sbeattiemicahg: it used to do that, but recent launchpad bug 389225 broke that.22:33
ubot4Launchpad bug 389225 in launchpad-registry "people's +participation page missing team icons" [High,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/38922522:33
BUGabundohggdh: ubuntu forums does that!22:34
hggdhkarma pretty much equates to how active you are, not to how good you are. It *does*, generically, imply that you know what you are doing, perhaps on a specific area22:34
hggdhBUGabundo, I am not saying it is worthless, just that you have to take it with a grain of salt22:35
micahgyep, hggdh +122:35
BUGabundohggdh: as everything else22:35
micahghggdh: what's the best way to flag a regression in a bug?22:35
hggdhadd the tag regression-potential22:35
BUGabundobut having a new triagger close bugs from expeirence users is not a good thing!22:35
BUGabundoI had it happen to me 4 or 5 times22:35
micahgwell, I haven't reported it yet22:36
BUGabundowhere I had to revert it22:36
micahgdo I open a new one?22:36
sbeattiesure. it's a rough indicator, not an exact measurement; which is why the lp_karma_suffix script also was showing some of the important team membership icons.22:36
BUGabundo!tags22:36
ubot4We use some common tags for tracking bugs on Launchpad.net See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BugSquad/Tags for common usage.22:36
hggdhno, it is not. But I think it was more a misunderstanding from the triager than anything else22:36
BUGabundomicahg: ^^^^22:36
micahgyes, but I'm wondering if I open a new issue, or comment on the old one?22:36
hggdhthe old one is still open?22:37
micahgnope22:37
micahgFix Released22:37
BUGabundosbeattie: https://code.launchpad.net/~gm-dev-launchpad/launchpad-gm-scripts/master ?22:37
hggdhthis is on a new release of the package?22:37
micahgI don't know if it was ever fixed...22:37
micahgI just noticed22:38
hggdhwhat is the bug #?22:38
micahgbug 26302922:38
ubot4Launchpad bug 263029 in network-manager "MASTER 0.7: hal restart duplicates interfaces, devices in nm-applet and crashes on multiple HAL restart" [Medium,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/26302922:38
sbeattieBUGabundo: yep; http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~gm-dev-launchpad/launchpad-gm-scripts/master/annotate/head%3A/lp_karma_suffix.user.js is the specific script22:38
hggdhBUGabundo, Brian and others are working on making the greasemonkey scripts a package22:39
BUGabundorestarting FF22:39
hggdhmicahg, I think the best is to open a new bug, refer to this one, and add in the 'regression-potential' tag. asac will probably be happy ;-)22:41
BUGabundook got the brz22:41
BUGabundonow what?22:41
hggdhBUGabundo, open a bug22:41
BUGabundocopy the script to ~/mozilla/firefox3.6/dbdb/extentions/greasemonkey ?22:41
BUGabundohggdh: slow down :)22:41
hggdhopen an *existing* bug :-)22:42
hggdhif you have greasemonkey installed, and you installed the scripts, that's all that is needed22:42
sbeattieBUGabundo: you need to browse to to the specific script and click on it so that it will get installed into greasemonkey22:43
hggdhmicahg, the reason is the old but is at least two releases removed, and n-m has changed a lot meanwhile22:43
hggdhargh! s/but/bug/22:44
micahghggdh: notice that Gconf.txt is attched22:47
micahgI woudl think that should be private by default22:47
BUGabundowow22:47
BUGabundothis looks nice22:47
BUGabundosbeattie: "G46 the word binary was found!"22:50
sbeattiehaha. yeah, the bingo one was something written to try to make the bug jams more fun.22:51
hggdhmicahg, what bug are you talking about (with the gconf.txt)?22:51
BUGabundobcurtiswx: ping22:53
micahgbug 38969222:56
ubot4micahg: Bug 389692 on http://launchpad.net/bugs/389692 is private22:56
BUGabundobcurtiswx: how did the membership meeting go?22:57
hggdhmicahg, I agree it should be private -- your VPN connections are also shown. About the SSIDs, I am not so worried, though, but a case could be made22:58
hggdhmicahg, didn't you get a checkbox to make it private when you opened it?22:59
micahgyes, but why would I think that private info would have been attached?23:01
micahgI deleted the attachement23:03
micahgdo apport-collect hook bugs go in the package or apport-collect?23:04
hggdhwell, in this case, the gconf listed has data required for the maintainer to find out what, and how, your network is configured23:04
micahgthe individual interfaces are listed23:04
hggdhapport-collect will collect data bsed on existing hooks; they will vary per package23:04
micahgok, so hook bugs go in the respective package  or apport-collect?23:05
hggdhwhen you call apport collect you provide a package and a bug -- so it will collect the data for the package you gave, and attach it to the bug you gave. I am not sure I understand your question23:06
micahgok, if I have a problem with the hook, where do I file it23:07
hggdhah23:07
micahgI think nm should be marked private by default23:07
hggdhopen a bug on the package -- the hooks are delivered with the package23:07
micahgok23:07
micahgthanks23:07
hggdhwelcome23:08
BUGabundothere goes my uptime23:13
BUGabundoX died once I returned from Guest Session23:13
