churlanyone home?02:02
BUGabundochurl: pong02:03
churli think i have Bug #357824 but it's status is "Incomplete -> Invalid"02:03
ubot4Launchpad bug 357824 in totem "totem no longer plays movies after resolution has been changed " [Medium,Invalid] https://launchpad.net/bugs/35782402:03
* BUGabundo checking02:04
BUGabundochurl: so what's wrong with it?02:11
churlso, totem didn't work after switching resolution.  also xorg ramps up past 65% when i run something with graphics (a game, or even scrolling in thundar)02:12
BUGabundochurl: are you sure it's the same bug?02:14
churlBUGabundo: well, it's the only thing even close to it that i found after googling some of the error output02:15
BUGabundochurl: please file a new bug02:16
BUGabundoits affects hardware (multimonitor) and those tend to be very specific02:17
BUGabundochurl: what's the CPU?02:17
BUGabundo*GPU02:17
churlBUGabundo: how can i check?02:17
churl:)02:17
BUGabundois it nvida? ati? intel ?02:18
churlBUGabundo: where can i look?02:18
micahg1churl: lshw -C video02:19
churlthanks02:19
BUGabundoor use GUI: install and run sysinfo02:19
churlBUGabundo: vendor:  intel corp?02:20
churli was hoping that it was just a config issue.  i was just trying to do a duel monitor thing and then, videos wouldn't play and that bit with xorg taking up the processor02:22

lesshasteI was wondering if anyone could give me advice on reporting/debugging a strange thing where "shutdown" actually "hibernates" on my laptop17:17
lesshasteI attempted to report it but don't really know what information is useful17:17
bencrisfordWell, the release you are using would be the first thing to mention in a bug report17:17
bencrisfordalso, there are several methods you could take to shut down your computer, so please specify which you chose17:18
lesshasteI did that but basic information like was it actually a suspend or a hibernate17:18
lesshasteI don't know how to tell which17:18
lesshasteI feel there is probably a crucial log file I don't know about17:19
lesshasteanyone know how to tell if your system was suspended or hibernated?17:21
lesshastealso, a minor thing, but ubuntu-bugs also crashed it seems17:21
lesshastehttp://pastebin.ca/146771517:21
lesshastebencrisford, any ideas?17:24
bencrisfordlesshaste: Sorry, i don't know all that much about logs17:25
bencrisfordid report the bug as it is, with all the information you can provide17:25
lesshasteok.. done17:25
bencrisfordok :)17:26
lesshastemost of my bug reports get a small flurry of activity while they clarify the problem then get ignored a year17:26
lesshasteat which point it gets closed as it relates to an old version :)17:26
lesshasteso I look forward to that17:27
mrooneylesshaste: well a resume from hibernate goes through your bios and typical stuff, from suspend does not17:29
mrooneyas I understand it, anyway17:30
lesshastemrooney, so the kern.log should tell you?17:30
mrooneyI just meant that the actual boot experience should tell you17:30
mrooneya resume from suspend should take a few seconds17:30
mrooneyhibernate 30-90 probably17:30
lesshasteah ok.. jaunty hides all the details from you but it looks like a suspend from your description17:31
lesshastebut who knows :)17:32

lesshastehi all19:24
lesshastemrooney, I got my bug wrong :(19:24
mrooneygot it wrong?19:24
lesshasteyes it didn't hibernate or suspend... the weird thing is that it just doesn't load grub19:25
lesshasteso you don't get the menu19:25
lesshasteI think it actually does shutdown in some way19:25

ubot4Launchpad bug 389930 in gnome-power-manager "grub not loaded after shutdown" [Undecided,New]19:25
lesshasteI changed the title19:25
lesshastemaybe this is a feature ??19:26
lesshasteI think I'm going to improve the title again :)19:28

jonathan1I'm curious, Has anyone recently upgraded to 9.04 with an on-board intel graphics chipset and have the graphics go crazy.  My graphics, and I am using that term loosely because it could be the video driver, looks like it it is only covering the top 2 inches of my monitor and it repeats a good half dozen times across.  Any ideas how to fix it anyone? I understand that ubuntu, in general, has a long running issue with intel chipset.  Was curious if a20:23
dtchenjonathan1: "go crazy" is a nice umbrella phrase for a slew of issues with the -intel driver20:29
dtchenjonathan1: if you have spare cycles, try downloading the karmic alpha 2 desktop cd, and see if you can reproduce the symptom using it20:29
jonathan1When it happened I had flashbacks to how tvs would get when the horizontal and vertical were wrongly set20:30
jonathan1care to give me that link, I may try that.20:32
