[02:03] churl: pong [02:03] i think i have Bug #357824 but it's status is "Incomplete -> Invalid" [02:03] Launchpad bug 357824 in totem "totem no longer plays movies after resolution has been changed " [Medium,Invalid] https://launchpad.net/bugs/357824 [02:04] * BUGabundo checking [02:11] churl: so what's wrong with it? [02:12] so, totem didn't work after switching resolution. also xorg ramps up past 65% when i run something with graphics (a game, or even scrolling in thundar) [02:14] churl: are you sure it's the same bug? [02:15] BUGabundo: well, it's the only thing even close to it that i found after googling some of the error output [02:16] churl: please file a new bug [02:17] its affects hardware (multimonitor) and those tend to be very specific [02:17] churl: what's the CPU? [02:17] *GPU [02:17] BUGabundo: how can i check? [02:17] :) [02:18] is it nvida? ati? intel ? [02:18] BUGabundo: where can i look? [02:19] churl: lshw -C video [02:19] thanks [02:19] or use GUI: install and run sysinfo [02:20] BUGabundo: vendor: intel corp? [02:22] i was hoping that it was just a config issue. i was just trying to do a duel monitor thing and then, videos wouldn't play and that bit with xorg taking up the processor [03:56] hello. === nhandler_ is now known as nhandler [05:47] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virtualbox-ose/+bug/347487 [05:47] Launchpad bug 347487 in virtualbox-ose "starting virtual machine in virtualbox-ose freezes system" [Medium,Confirmed] === fenris- is now known as e-jat [14:33] hello [14:34] i've just put the rtl tag on all the right-to-left related bugs which i know of/reported. does anyone think it would be beneficial to make it an official tag? === lakin_ is now known as lakin === kakemann_ is now known as kakemann [17:16] hi all [17:16] hi [17:17] I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on reporting/debugging a strange thing where "shutdown" actually "hibernates" on my laptop [17:17] I attempted to report it but don't really know what information is useful [17:17] Well, the release you are using would be the first thing to mention in a bug report [17:18] also, there are several methods you could take to shut down your computer, so please specify which you chose [17:18] I did that but basic information like was it actually a suspend or a hibernate [17:18] I don't know how to tell which [17:19] I feel there is probably a crucial log file I don't know about [17:21] anyone know how to tell if your system was suspended or hibernated? [17:21] also, a minor thing, but ubuntu-bugs also crashed it seems [17:21] http://pastebin.ca/1467715 [17:24] bencrisford, any ideas? [17:25] lesshaste: Sorry, i don't know all that much about logs [17:25] id report the bug as it is, with all the information you can provide [17:25] ok.. done [17:26] ok :) [17:26] most of my bug reports get a small flurry of activity while they clarify the problem then get ignored a year [17:26] at which point it gets closed as it relates to an old version :) [17:27] so I look forward to that [17:29] lesshaste: well a resume from hibernate goes through your bios and typical stuff, from suspend does not [17:30] as I understand it, anyway [17:30] mrooney, so the kern.log should tell you? [17:30] I just meant that the actual boot experience should tell you [17:30] a resume from suspend should take a few seconds [17:30] hibernate 30-90 probably [17:31] ah ok.. jaunty hides all the details from you but it looks like a suspend from your description [17:32] but who knows :) === WelshDragon is now known as YDdraigGoch [17:34] YDdraigGoch, great nick :) [17:35] lesshaste, umm.. thank you :) [17:35] pleasure :) [19:24] hi all [19:24] mrooney, I got my bug wrong :( [19:24] got it wrong? [19:25] yes it didn't hibernate or suspend... the weird thing is that it just doesn't load grub [19:25] so you don't get the menu [19:25] I think it actually does shutdown in some way [19:25] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/389930 [19:25] Launchpad bug 389930 in gnome-power-manager "grub not loaded after shutdown" [Undecided,New] [19:25] I changed the title [19:26] maybe this is a feature ?? My graphics, and I am using that term loosely because it could be the video driver, looks like it it is only covering the top 2 inches of my monitor and it repeats a good half dozen times across. Any ideas how to fix it anyone? I understand that ubuntu, in general, has a long running issue with intel chipset. Was curious if a [20:29] jonathan1: "go crazy" is a nice umbrella phrase for a slew of issues with the -intel driver [20:29] jonathan1: if you have spare cycles, try downloading the karmic alpha 2 desktop cd, and see if you can reproduce the symptom using it [20:30] When it happened I had flashbacks to how tvs would get when the horizontal and vertical were wrongly set [20:32] care to give me that link, I may try that.
