ron_owhy does not my x restart when I hit alt+cntrl+backspace ?01:46
ron_owhy doesn't xubuntu have a keyboard shortcut for that from the getgo?01:46
ron_oI'll try this: sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart01:51
ron_othat command didn't work. It just screwed up x and it wouldn't restart.01:55
ron_omy main problem is for some reason when my computer starts the resolution is larger than what is claimed by xubuntu config...01:55
ron_osometimes I have to restart it more than once in order to for the resoluton to reset properly. It usually gets screwed up because of a system crash.01:56
TheSheeptry this: xrandr --auto02:11
TheSheepyou can bind it to some key02:11
TheSheepon another note, try putting your monitor's sync ranges into xorg.conf02:12

ron_oso that command will do the trick?02:13

maduserwhy did they remove that, it was great in case the computer failed to shutdown06:04
KoshB5it's driving me crazy. The install went fine. Just ran into this glitch after a reboot06:04
KoshB5ctrl+alt+del gets you to the change user screen06:05

Allah_kegyeltjeOkka10:31
psycho_oreosSiDi, I get issues with them using up CPU (mine is dualcore so its not fully affected) but often I cannot close the window or something... I did strace on it and have 1.1MB worth of log10:31
psycho_oreosthe process thunar just hangs10:31
SiDidid you file a bug and attach the log ?10:31
psycho_oreosnope, I guess I should've done that? bleh10:32
SiDiyes :D10:32
SiDiBecause we can't guess if something goes wrong on every user's machine ;)10:32
psycho_oreosI thought this was not a computer specific issue but I guess I could be wrong.. umm, bleh.. I'll check it out and file it.. was asking this before I migrate to 9.110:33
SiDi9.10 is still very unstable, you know10:33
psycho_oreosam also thinking of doing somewhat a clean install, on a much bigger hard drive, 20GB is way too small10:34
psycho_oreosjaunty? I thought karmic was even worse :)10:34
SiDi9.10 is karmic10:34
SiDi9.04 is jaunty10:34
psycho_oreosahh I got messed up with numbers, apologies10:35
SiDi:p10:35
SiDikarmic is on alpha 210:35
SiDiif you're not a ninja who doesnt care about killing his hardware and data, at least wait for the alpha 3: p10:35
psycho_oreoswell 9.04 is my next move, I think I already have the image on my hard disk, and 250GB ide that I'll use instead of a puny 20GB.. the rest is probably migration + vmware p2v10:36
psycho_oreoslol10:36
SiDibtw10:36
SiDicheck if your issue still occurs in jaunty10:36
psycho_oreosyeah I'm planning to go onto jaunty, ibex is nice but that was then :) I don't want to be too far behind10:37

SiDitry jaunty on a clean hdd with ext4 :p10:37
SiDiyoull see how fast it is10:37
psycho_oreoslol ok10:38
psycho_oreosI hope the issue will be resolved, because before someone telling me about strace (and boy thank god he mentioned that, that tool is almost a godsend) I had to always do pkill10:38
psycho_oreosbut yeah, report it, upgrade and we'll see10:39
SiDiupgrade, then check if its on jaunty10:39
SiDithen report ;)10:39
psycho_oreoser ok10:39
SiDiso you dont have to edit the report to say wether or not it also happens in jaunty10:39
psycho_oreosI thought the layout for bug tracking was similar to blogging?10:39
SiDikind of10:40
psycho_oreoslike you don't have to edit the main report but you can add it as a comment10:40

SiDiless emails in xubuntu devs' inbox :D10:40
psycho_oreoslol10:40
psycho_oreosalright thanks for the input, once I get myself sorted out I'll upgrade and give it a run.. btw there's no shortcuts as to migration is there? I'm planning to not only dist-update from ibex to jaunty but I'm also going to swap out 20GB for 250GB.. I can do dd/cp as such but I'd rather not.. was hoping of someway I can retain the current profile to some extent (obviously /home would be copied rather than dd into an image) but are the10:42
psycho_oreosre any other things I have to also be aware of?10:42
SiDiif you have a separate home i suppose you can just copy your home folder with gparted10:43
SiDibut if you copy the system folder, you may have to edit /etc/fstab and /boot/grub/menu.lst to make sure they dont use UUID to identify partitions10:43
psycho_oreoswell no what I meant was the way I themed my desktops as such, all the personal preferences.. I suspect they are all in /home directory but I can't be too sure, especially autostart apps, before I knew you could add it in through GUI, I had to go into /etc/xdg/..10:56

SiDiuse sudo12:37
vinnlWell... The root user shouldn't have a password you know12:37
utomegaweird, I know my user's password, in terminal I typed su -/ su and entered it but authentication failed12:39
vinnlutomega, that's because your user can do root stuff with sudo, but you can't use the root user with su12:39

vinnlIf the CD-ROM is in the CD drive, it should be listed on the left of the File Manager screen. The /cdrom folder on your filesystem doesn't necessarily contain the cdrom contents15:16

KoshB5using an ATI card19:00
SiDiKoshB5, an ati one without proprietary drivers ?19:00
AlgyzWhy it could be, that using 9.04 comp is randomly freezing, like after every 2-5 hours, but it is going well under 8.04.1 and under FreeBSD 7.2? Could it be because of ext4 partitioning or rather because of some extra tools in 9.04?19:00
SiDiApparently it mostly happens with cards that fallback on the mesa driver (the default one)19:01
KoshB5SiDi: using what xubuntu put in.19:01
SiDiAlgyz, it could be something in xfce 4.619:01

ShiandarWould burning and installing the latest release just "fix it?"  Or is there a way I can transfer the configuration?  Maybe I'm missing a command somewhere.19:10

SiDiI think you really should file a bug :|23:43
SiDiThats extremely weird23:43
kromarim gona try what happens if i delete the xfce folder...23:44
vinnlOf course, in the end it will turn out to be a very simple issue :P23:45
SiDii dont think so23:45
SiDiit looks like data he writes on his hdd isnt actually written, just pending... data is actually written every 1 or 2 mins (or something similar) to avoid using the HDD too much23:46
SiDiand it could be that he has a completely broken value23:46
SiDibut why would that file have been saved ?23:46
SiDiunless it writes when files are created in the fs but not when they're modified, but does it really make sense ? (it doesnt :p :p)23:46
* SiDi is lost23:46
kromarok im giving up.. if i download the latest liveCD and install that one it should work, right?23:55
