ian__Is it safe to autoremove "linux-headers-2.6.28-11" on Jaunty?12:03
psycho_oreoswhy would you want to do that?12:09
ian__psycho..,I run sudo apt-get autoremove on a regular basis(i believe it frees hd space??).12:11
psycho_oreosit does free up hard disk space, if you are looking for space and am not compiling new drivers as such, then yeah you can go ahead.. but I wouldn't that package would come in handy whenever you have new hardware and the driver has to be compiled literally from scratch12:13
ian__psycho..., seeing the word "linux-headers" alarms my cautious side, therefore I'll put it on hold.12:15
psycho_oreosto me its just half the package of linux-kernel, it just contains all the necessary bits and pieces for compiling of drivers to match with the current running kernel (or whichever kernel you are using and maybe that is being kept back as legacy)12:19
psycho_oreoswhich kernel version you running anyway?12:20
ian__psycho..,Know any means of "autoremove" w/out deleting this package? ... terminal command to do that.12:20
ian__psycho..., 2.6.28-13-generic12:21
psycho_oreosahh yeah you have the updated kernel, meaning that other one is old :)12:21
ian__so, really safe to autoremove?12:22
psycho_oreosI thought it was a bit strange, how you still have 2.6.28-11 when 2.6.28-1312:22
psycho_oreoswell, have you had any qualms with 2.6.28-13 that you had to revert back to 2.6.28-11?12:22
psycho_oreos(usually no)12:22
ian__no qualms, whatsoever. system is running smoothly.12:23
psycho_oreosthen yeah its safe to remove it12:23
ian__ok, then I'll do as you suggested. Thank you very much!12:24
