htpcHi guys just updated to the weekly build and have chosen trunk by accident and update and broken everything . what i want to know how i have the correct sources can i downgrade the packages easily?02:13
awilkinsHi, the release page says 9.04 includes 0.21-fixes20403 but the actual version I've got after a dist-upgrade is 19961 ?02:42
Outbreak_MonkeyUbuntu 9.04 AMD64 - the 'out of the box' install seems to have holes in the config - front end can't find DB etc.. is 8.10 still supported? Is there any particular version that anyone here can recommend as 'best out of the box' ?02:47
tgm4883Outbreak_Monkey, I suppose it depends on your hardware02:48
tgm4883awilkins, let me check that for you02:48
Outbreak_Monkeyerr.. sorry.. Mythbunt 9.0402:48
awilkinstgm4883: Not that it matters ; they haven't backported the fix I wanted by the look of it02:49
awilkinstgm4883: Looks like it's back to the PPA for m02:49
tgm4883awilkins, hmm, yea that is incorrect. We do have a weekly builds PPA02:49
Outbreak_MonkeyIntel G45 Board (relatively new) built in HDMI, audio over iec985/spdif , 64bit intel dual core.02:49
tgm4883awilkins, 0.21.0+fixes20789 in the weekly builds repo02:50
tgm4883well, at least that high, it should have built today02:50
awilkinstgm4883: The fix I want hasn't been backported to HEAD of that branch yet02:50
tgm4883awilkins, what fix?02:51
awilkinstgm4883: THe one I put in here... https://launchpad.net/~adrian-wilkins/+archive/ppa02:51
awilkinsI think it's cherrypicks from three revisions that fix the problem with reindexing DVB-T recordings02:52
awilkinsI suppose I can do without it until I have to reindex things again.02:52
tgm4883awilkins, is there a patch somewhere, and has upstream looked at it?02:53
Outbreak_Monkeyare you guys running 'full ubuntu' with mythtv installed on top.. ar are you starting with mythbuntu02:53
tgm4883Outbreak_Monkey, i'm running  Mythbuntu 8.04 64-bit02:53
tgm4883I also have the frontend installed on my laptop02:53
Outbreak_Monkeydid you have any issues with the install process for 8.04?02:54
tgm4883no, but I didn't have any issues when I was testing 9.04 either02:55
Outbreak_Monkeyok.. might blow it away and try again02:55
tgm4883I've just stuck with 8.04 since it's LTS, but will upgrade to 9.10 if 0.22 hits02:55
Outbreak_Monkeythird times a charm! :)02:55
tgm4883well hold on now02:56
tgm4883what are your 9.04 issues?02:56
Outbreak_Monkeywell the backstory: i WAS running Ubuntu 9.04 + MythTV + XBMC.. I've been compiling XBMC builds whe i see fixes come out.. and i got a bit too excited and well managed to compile MythTV, but somehow set fire to the 'front end' (couldn't fined a direct framebufer device)  and well I couldn't really "go back" (i updated SO many libraries behind ubuntu's back that serves me right)... As painful as all that sounds it was prett02:59
Outbreak_MonkeySo....02:59
Outbreak_MonkeyFigured I'd try Mythbuntu 9.04 .. straight out of the box..03:00
Outbreak_Monkeyjust seems a little clunky, the 'install' finished.. if I restart at that point the theme still seems to indicate it's waiting for more installation - so i go in to the mythbuntu manager enable the front and backend roles03:01
tgm4883strange03:01
Outbreak_Monkeywhen i run the mythtv-setup.. it can't connect to teh database03:01
Outbreak_Monkeywhen i mysql -u root -p mythconverg03:01
Outbreak_Monkeyat first the db issue is "access deied for 'mythtv'@'localhost'03:02
tgm4883have you tried reconfigureing the db?03:02
tgm4883!mysql03:02
ZinnIf you are having problems connecting to your mysql database, you can perform the following to reconfigure it: 1. sudo dpkg-reconfigure mysql-server-5.0 (pay attention to the root password you set, you will need it for the next step) 2. sudo dpkg-reconfigure mythtv-database 3. sudo dpkg-reconfigure mythtv-common03:02
Outbreak_MonkeyZinn: understood, thanks am familiar with that .. but bit crappy that an 'out of the box' sucks that bad03:02
Outbreak_Monkeydon't get me wrong.. love mythtv, love ubuntu.. just don't think mythbuntu 9.04 has been all that pleasant for me :)03:03
tgm4883Outbreak_Monkey, not sure what happened, that isn't the case for most users03:03
Outbreak_MonkeyZinn: apologies.. what i meant to say is NO i haven't done that on this install (did on the first, that's what i had to do to get it up last time).. just hopped on to see if anyone else had 'out of the box issues'03:05
Outbreak_Monkeytgm: yeah.. i'm always the lucky one :)03:05
tgm4883did you verify your ISO and burn slow?03:06
Outbreak_Monkeyyup03:06
Outbreak_Monkeyand md5-sum03:06
tgm4883strange issues03:06
Outbreak_Monkeyi'll blow away and document exactly03:06
Outbreak_Monkeydoes it produce any install logs?03:07
tgm4883hmm, not sure where the install logs will be03:07
Outbreak_Monkeyi'll have a play.. thank guys :)03:07
Outbreak_Monkeywill report back03:07
tgm4883I know where the mythtv logs are03:08
tgm4883ok03:08
Outbreak_Monkeytgm: one last Q - when you're finished with the mythbuntu install (the 'black screen' with the 'click install to make it permantent' text) - on final boot, should that desktop background be any different?03:09
tgm4883no03:09
tgm4883i've seen it a few times though03:09
tgm4883on 8.1003:09
Outbreak_Monkeysorry? seen what? the 'click here to install background'?03:10
tgm4883the background change to the default xfce background03:12
Outbreak_Monkeyahh03:12
Outbreak_Monkeyahh well.. thanks for your help tgm / Zinn.. I'll go have another crack.. this time i'll document the steps.. see if it's something funny i'm doing03:13
Outbreak_Monkeyhave a good day/night/etc.. :)03:13

Outbreak_Monkey_hello - i've searched around a bit but can't find any documentation on 'adding menu items' - what I'd like to add is a link/launcher for a couple of other applications onto the main menu. can someone direct me to a doc/how-to or even some search terms?06:25
