shane_whats up19:09
shane_anyone here19:10
kklimondasure19:11
shane_am i in the right spot for ubuntu bugsquad?19:11
kklimondayes19:11
shane_ok i was just seeking a little help in exactly how i should get started19:12
shane_theres so much different info on the Motu pages Im pretty lost19:12
shane_as to exactly were to start helping out19:12
kklimondashane_, well, if you want to help us with bugs then you can check https://wiki.edubuntu.org/BugSquad/GettingInvolved and MOTU has a similar page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/GettingStarted19:13
shane_well my goal is to end up joining Motu but from what I read it sounds like I should start helping with bugs19:15
shane_am I on the right path?19:15
kklimondashane_, hmm.. working with bugs (fixing them, triaging etc.) is probably the foundation of Ubuntu development so it's a good start if you have no experience. Whatever you do later this knowledge will be helpful19:21
shane_ok so do i need to join another team in order to work at becoming a Motu or do I just start working on bugs and apply later19:23
kklimondashane_, to become a MOTU you have to work on packages. The easiest way is to fix bugs, prepare syncs/merges and then ask for sponsorship from MOTU - there is a full description how to do it on wiki.19:26
kklimondahey BUGabundo19:27
shane_yea ive been reading, its just ALOT of information and can get confusing as to exactly were to start19:28
kklimondashane_, you can always ask on #ubuntu-motu for help19:29
BUGabundohey kklimonda19:29
kklimondashane_, There was also something called mentoring, you can ask for a MOTU to become your mentor and help you.. dunno how it works though19:30
shane___ok so I just joined the bugsquad and need some help in how to get started20:06
kklimondashane___, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BugSquad/GettingInvolved20:07
kklimondashane_, tomorrow there is going to be a HugDay when we'll be working on nautilus bugs20:07
kklimondashane___, a list of bugs to work on is here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBugDay/20090730 and more info about HugDay itself is here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBugDay20:08
shane___ok20:08
shane___is there any info as to exactly what I have to do in order to helpout20:08
shane___ive found the buglist I just dont know what to do, most bugs already have comments form other memebrs20:09
kklimondashane___, bugs on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBugDay/20090730 page are divided into various groups (for example "Incomplete Bugs" or "Confirmed Bugs") and every group has a checklist you have to follow in order to mark bug off the list.20:12
shane___ok so just go through the bugs and make sure they are complete20:13

yofelhmm, what could I do to help with old expired bug? i.e. incomplete and last post was half a year ago, like bug 21172121:55
ubot4Launchpad bug 211721 in gnome-power-manager "Thinkpad X61 tablet does not suspend when battery is critical" [Undecided,Incomplete] https://launchpad.net/bugs/21172121:55
pedro_yofel, would be nice to know if that bug still applies to jaunty or later21:57
pedro_probably it's fixed there21:58
yofelok21:58
yofelpedro_: one other thing, the bug was filed against hardy, if the bug is fixed in a never release should I open a task for hardy? I'm not sure what to do with LTS releases.22:02
pedro_yofel, only if the bug qualify as one to be SRU'ed -> https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates22:20
yofelok, thanks22:20
pedro_you're welcome22:21
