NullslashHiii00:02
NullslashAnybody here ?00:02
bcurtiswxNullslash: yes00:03
NullslashOK, I have problem with my cpufreq-selector ,When my computer gets overload, my cpu uses only 40% of it's power00:05
=== asac_ is now known as asac
LimCoreNullslash: did you changed anything in config?   what ubuntu version, what cpu00:08
LimCoreI use dualcore amd64 X2 on 9.04 amd64 ubuntu, nv-based mobo, and all works fine00:08
Nullslashmy cpu --> http://pastebin.com/f73b4fc87 , Ubuntu version 9.04 64/32 bit , I have tried both of them00:10
Nullslashlimcore , what do you think ? , do you think it's hardware issue ?00:12
jgoguenLooking at bug 409962, should the package for that be CUPS? I see that problem but even with apps that aren't rendering PDF.01:32
ubot4Launchpad bug 409962 in poppler "poppler 0.11.2 produces blank pages with cups" [High,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/40996201:32
=== scream is now known as NonvocalScream
LimCoreOverall I was thinking.... why not provide 2 versions of same application?11:28
LimCoreexample:   there is pidgin-2.1 (example)  and   pidgin-2.2.... (with fixes, but less tested).    User can execute  pidgin-2.1..  or pidgin-2.2  binary,  and he can change to which one the "pidgin" symlinks to11:29
LimCoreobviously this is possible,  but it has to be done a bit "by hand".  Why not fully support such approach?  Then if aplication doesnt work for you you can very easly try out another version and then switch to it.   The important thing is that you have both versions installed so you can easly switch etc11:31
LimCorethis was possible easly on windows, not so easly on linux where basically you just can have version X or Y at once11:31
kklimondaLimCore: it's twice as much work for us developers and bug triagers11:46
kklimondaLimCore: also, would you mind giving me/us a better example? We ship the newest pidgin anyway.. I can't think of example when the older version of software was choosen deliberately..11:51
BUGabundoguud morning12:01
kklimondaheh, wrt bug 295316 - upstream report is marked as WONTFIX with comment that in 2.27.x branch different widget is used and so this bug doesn't exist there.12:10
ubot4Launchpad bug 295316 in hamster-applet "Incorrect date in Update activity dialog" [Medium,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/29531612:10
kklimondashould the bug be marked as "Fix released" (because it doesn't show up anymore), Won't Fix (because upstream decided not to fix it but rewrite dialog)?12:12
chrisccoulsonkklimonda - if the bug still exists in the current karmic version, then i would leave the status as it is for now12:34
chrisccoulsonwhen upstream introduce the new widget, then it can be closed12:35
kklimondachrisccoulson: I think they already made this change (my update activity dialog looks different)12:36
chrisccoulsonif that's the case, then you can close the bug as fixed ;)12:37
LimCorekklimonda: pidgin has a nasty bug in ubunu 9.04.  There will be probably no SRU.   o my  idea:  just quickly release  pidgin-something  into 9.04 without much testing.   If it fixed the bug without regressions then cool.   If it has some regression then user can choose which version he wants (which bugs are affecting him)13:48
LimCoreI can do the above already,  but not in such a noob-user-friendly way.13:48
LimCoremy idea is to allow follow procedure overall,  this pidgin bug is an example13:49
LimCore*following13:49
kklimondaLimCore: Have you tried requesting a backport from Karmic?13:51
kklimondaLimCore: we can't really introduce new packages into stable releases (well, we probably could but I think it's against our policy to do so)13:52
kklimondaLimCore: introducing two version of packages was done (see firefox and firefox-3.5) but never was it done because older release had an unfixed bug.13:53
kklimondaLimCore: I remember parts of your discussion from yesterday, are you sure that the fix for this bug in Jabber isn't small enough to go with SRU?13:54
LimCorekklimonda:  frequency: everytime for users using most popular free IM (protocol)     severity: always annoying, often you think other person if offline when it is online14:40
kklimondaLimCore: the question is how invasive the fix would be. Also Jabber, although popular *free* IM, isn't that popular compared to other protocols. And most people have offline users hidden so they don't see it. and there is no severity: annoying in LP ;)14:43
LimCorekklimonda: online people are displayed always as offline,  even in the conversation window  (so also no "gone offline" warning).   <-- this happens a lot15:01
kklimondahmm.. for launchpad to proceed emails do they have to signed inline?15:08
kklimondaor rather any idea why I couldn't change https://bugs.staging.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python2.6/+bug/362570 using email?15:09
ubot4Launchpad bug 362570 in python2.6 "Python distutils installs into 'site-packages' instead of 'dist-packages' when a prefix is set" [Wishlist,Fix released]15:09
kklimondaok, this question should go to #launchpad15:09
kklimondamy bad :)15:09
* LimCore would like his bank to start using openpgp in email15:10
* hggdh would like to see pigs flying15:10
LimCorethey do use S/MIME...which, btw is not wroking in Ubuntu 9.04's kmail wtf15:11
kklimondaheh, I think it was just another PEBKAC15:26
LimCorewhat, smime?15:37
LimCorein jabber its common that people see onlines as offlines in this buggy pidgin15:38
kklimondaLimCore: nah, every command must start with space - I have my firefox window open this way that I've missed this info15:39
BUGabundoFYI16:10
BUGabundofta: just committed the code to make #firefox  3.5 the default firefox in !ubuntu #karmic  *and* in the -daily PPA:  http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~mozillateam/firefox/firefox-3.1.head/revision/44416:10
BUGabundo fta: it will start to spread through the daily ppa, in ~2h, if you see people complaining about breakage, please bring them here, or ask them to file bugs16:10
kklimonda:D16:13
kklimondaBUGabundo: paste it on #ubuntu+116:13

jgoguenTwo questions, about bug 409923 and bug 409962 - which should be the dupe of the other, and should the package be poppler or cups?18:26
ubot4Launchpad bug 409923 in hplip "nothing prints, despite printer detection" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/40992318:26
ubot4Launchpad bug 409962 in poppler "poppler 0.11.2 produces blank pages with cups" [High,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/40996218:26
kklimonda409962 is more active18:30
kklimondaso I'd mark the other as a duplicate of 40996218:30
kklimondajgoguen: ^^18:32
jgoguenkklimonda: Thanks :)18:34
BUGabundoso kklimonda are you picking my app??18:41

kklimondaBUGabundo: dunno, I'll see when I get my android how much I'd like to have an app like that :)18:43
kklimondawrt bug 403135 - should I add affected applications to the list?18:58
ubot4Launchpad bug 403135 in checkgmail "Notification area icon wrongly rendered/has a black background (multiple apps)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/40313518:59
kklimondabased on upstream comments I'd say that tt has to be fixed in every application18:59

chrisccoulsonbut i've never been on any microblogging sites19:32
kklimondaI tend to create an account on some uBlogging site, use it for some time and then realize I don't really care about sharing my thoughts..19:33
kklimondaI use identi.ca as just another channel to get informations about ubuntu development ;)19:33
kklimondabut now that BUGabundo is repasting most of important things on +1 I think I should just shut down gwibber for good..19:34
