[22:10] Not that familar with Kubuntu but it sounds like a driver problem. [22:10] i have driver [22:10] Riobe_: then try some other 3d software. what card do you have? intel cards' had a regression in the drivers [22:10] I just have a built in video card on the motherboard. [22:11] I have ATI radeon HD 4870 [22:11] Not sure what it is. Is there some free 3D software I could use to test this and see if it's a driver thing? [22:11] Riobe_: yes: lspci will tell you what card you have [22:12] avihayb: Ok running it...wow...quite a bit of output from that. [22:12] there are tons of 3d games [22:12] avihayb: Intel Corporation 82915G/GV/910GL Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 04) [22:13] Yeah he has Intel's builtin :) [22:13] Riobe_: just as I guessed [22:13] there are tons of intel bugs [22:13] Ah, nice. [22:13] they can be fixed [22:13] So that's probably why it isn't working then. [22:14] avihayb: That's good to hear! Do you know how I could figure out how to fix it? [22:14] Good reason why I'll never convert my old i845/P3 laptop to Linux. Barely can stand the thing in Windows Server 2003. :/ [22:14] lol [22:14] omg no one know here how force that cubee desktop work? [22:14] well, I have an intel card, and I have graphical issues even after the fix I applyed [22:15] you can try your luck in the #intel-gfx channle [22:15] rain_: I might. [22:15] does anyone know if its possible to manually turn on/off say the caps lock or num/scroll lock light? [22:15] rain_: System Settings->Desktop->All Effects scroll down to the bottom and check desktop cube. [22:15] Then hit apply and Ctrl+F11 I think it is. [22:15] My Athlon 64 (socket 939 in other words) motherboard has a nice ATI board attached. LOL I couldn't find my old Quadro 4 but it's a lot better card than my laptop has builtin. [22:16] avihayb: Thanks for the help. [22:16] shadowhywind: it should be. you can probebly find various packages concerning the keyboard lights in the repositories [22:16] Thinking of looking for a cheap X1300/300 - anyone had good luck withthem? [22:17] rain_: Did that help? [22:21] hey guys I installed kde 4.3 on ubuntu 9.04 on two systems via synatpic and I had this error on both system E: kubuntu-docs: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1 [22:21] solutions? [22:22] Riobe_ you might want to take a look at this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1130582 [22:22] Are you wanting to totally disable the caps lock/num lock/scroll lock keys or just the lights? [22:23] Many packages use the scroll lock LED for indicators, for example. [22:23] sorry about that [22:23] HDD activity, Network traffic, alternate keyboard layouts, etc. [22:25] Coyotes: oh sorry, i was in another window [22:26] Coyotes: My thinking, Is I am getting a replacement laptop, which doesn't have much multimedia keys. So I believe there is no mute light. So I was going to turn say my numlock into a mute light [22:26] Xmodmap is useful for changing the key's behaviour, but I'm still looking for a LED tool. [22:26] System Settings->Desktop->All Effects scroll down to the bottom and check desktop cube<< I have Window titled "CompizConfig Settings Manager" [22:26] u meant this window [22:26] ? [22:26] Bah wait KDE overrides :/ [22:27] Coyotes: huh? [22:27] riobe_: it din't help [22:27] why u keep telling me not working mehtods? [22:27] Instead of using xmodmap, you have to go to the control panel. [22:27] rain_: Ah, sorry about that then, I'm not sure what else to do. [22:28] Control center* [22:28] rain_: That's how I got it working. [22:28] is there anything elese? [22:28] some compiz package? [22:28] Can anyone tell me what software i can use to access my pc through IP? [22:28] REgional and accessibility -> keyboard [22:28] then enable xkb options :) [22:28] even google dont have tutorials for that :S [22:29] Coyotes: thanks, that should help with reassigning shortcuts and what not [22:29] Coyotes: I am still praying that it comes with some mute light indicator [22:30] lol [22:30] why all ppl only upload pics about cube desktop, why don't no one write tutorial on google [22:32] rain_ whats your problem? [22:32] cant find tutorial for bube desktop [22:32] rain_: it works "out of the box", or rather "out of the cube" for me [22:33] I have marked "desktop cube" in window titled "CompizConfig Settings Manager" [22:33] http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~pi9s-nnb/floyd/ <-- could read this guy's source to find out how to make a program yourself :) [22:33] but it have no offect [22:34] :where is "out of the box" [22:34] rain_ but are you useing compiz [22:34] I use compiz [22:34] Coyotes: thansk, will have to look into that [22:35] Ah: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-users/2009-April/180696.html [22:35] xset will work [22:35] rain_ are you sure you are useing compiz and not kwin? [22:35] yes [22:35] You can make a tool that mutes the audio and calls Xset when you push Numlock. [22:35] err Mute* [22:36] FN-Mute is somethinglike F11 [22:36] Coyotes: I could hugh you at the moment [22:36] lol yw [22:36] rain_ maybe it isn't configured to use your costume settings [22:36] compiz = crap that cant even draw single cube [22:36] All the knowledge on the WWW and a really crappy index :P [22:36] Knowledge without organization... yuck :) [22:36] what conf file is for this conf? [22:37] and where can I find compiz configuration+ [22:37] Coyotes: yup, the next step that I was going to do, is since the keyboard I believe has the FN-mute, stuff.. I am going to hopefully set up a shourtcut key, to enable say F11 to be FN-mute [22:37] rain_: go to the k-menu and see if you can find something called Desktop Effects [22:37] Coyotes: if that makes any since [22:37] Y [22:37] i found it [22:37] what next? [22:38] run it. it should show you some options [22:38] yea [22:38] I'm guessing it's on standrard effects or extra effects [22:38] you should pick costume effects, and click apply and done [22:38] I selected custom effects [22:39] i did it before I joined that irc channel [22:39] only then should the compiz manager work properly, or so I understand [22:39] humm [22:39] well, you can still disable compiz and use kwin [22:40] lol [22:40] then what's the point of compiz? [22:40] well, compiz works faster then kwin, as far as I'm told, and can feel, but I don't like it, it crashes alot on me, really annoing [22:41] allso some issues with titlebar not drawing properly, windows apper to be stuck... === Maniac is now known as Guest57324 === josh_ is now known as hashbrowncipher [22:51] does anyone know how to reset compiz settings?
