davmor2Morning all08:29
davmor2sbeattie: the python script on rsync only is still faster than the older script anyway so it's a win win situation :)08:44
sbeattiehow... odd.08:46
* sbeattie will work harder to slow down the python script. :-)08:46
davmor2sbeattie: not much faster maybe 5-10 minutes overall.  It doesn't seem to take so long to fire up the next sync on the old script it could take 30 seconds per item.  However the python script is maybe 10 seconds so over all the hardy + karmic images that time builds up :)08:49
sbeattiedavmor2: I did realize I'd not got the mythbuntu location right, so that may kill your speedup.08:52
davmor2meh08:52
davmor2it's live now instead of alternate08:52
davmor2that might do it :)08:52
davmor2sbeattie: is the change to the python script including the myth update?09:03
davmor2in r 20309:04
sbeattiedavmor2: yep.09:05
sbeattie(bzr log |less is your friend)09:06
davmor2sbeattie: thanks for that09:07
davmor2sbeattie: also edubuntu is a dvd now too or is becoming one09:07
davmor2http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/edubuntu/dvd/current/09:08
sbeattiedavmor2: oh bugger. Guess I better get moving on jigdo support if I'm ever going to be able to download it all.09:14
davmor2sbeattie: first iso dl is the bitch it's pretty easy after that :)09:16
natureshadowg'morrow11:07
davmor2natureshadow: hello11:10
natureshadowI've been running karmic for a while now and actively reporting and confirming bugs, now I wanted to make that a bit more "official". So I looked through the wiki and was wondering whether there still are testing days? The last record is from June.11:12
davmor2natureshadow: there probably will be closer to release where we test the latest new features11:22
davmor2there is also iso testing pre release so next week pre alpha 5 there will be a lot of testing of the iso's11:23
natureshadowI think there isn't a place dedicated to testers somewhere for Ubuntu?12:15
natureshadowLike a Launchpad team or something?12:15
davmor2https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-testing12:18
davmor2and here12:18
natureshadowAh ... now tell me why I didn't find that myself please ;)12:18
davmor2natureshadow: my psychic abilities tell me that before searching you didn't turn the ornament on the top shelf 35 degrees clockwise, it's an easy mistake :)12:37
natureshadowdavmor2: Blimey, I always forget that after not reading my horoscope for two weeks or more :/ ...12:38

faderdavmor2: How are the ISOs looking post-FF?  Does anything boot? :)14:02
davmor2I'm too busy pratting about getting xp on the netbook slowly updated and crying at how slow it is14:03
davmor2fader: checking now14:03
fader:)14:04
faderdavmor2: Are you *still* playing with the Brand X OS?  I thought you'd have been done after yesterday.14:04
davmor2fscking thing.  I only got to sp3 this morning I thought that one had long past14:05
davmor2all this so that I can test wubi on a netbook.  Anyone suggests anyone else to do it kill them14:05
faderHeh14:06
davmor2testing U-A-3214:06
faderdavmor2: You should get it all finished and dd a copy of the w32 install so you never have to go through it again :)14:06
faderdavmor2: I'll be very interested in hearing if the UNR image works, as that's my big focus for mathben to work on today... I need to figure out whether to have him test the latest image or to go a day or two before FF14:07
davmor2fader: I did a backup of it using ntfsclone only it wouldn't restore.  So this time I did  a partimage copy off the unr live session and that worked14:08
davmor2fader: unr worked the other day 2-3 days ago14:09
faderdavmor2: I really don't understand why though, honestly... Windows is the easiest OS to install out there!  It only takes a few days to get your hardware working!14:09
faderdavmor2: Yeah, I figured it worked 2-3 days ago... I'm just not sure if it will work today after everyone has pushed their crack in to get it in before FF ;)14:10
davmor2fsck you, you fsckin' lying mother fscker14:10
faderWhoa, this is a family channel!14:10
davmor2come on you know you check mothers are okay :)14:11
davmor2fader: I can report that wubi failed if that helps?14:12
faderdavmor2: No, not really... :/14:12
davmor2I would check if unr live worked but xp is still updating14:12
* fader giggles.14:13
davmor2I thought sp meant there was less to update14:13
* davmor2 wants to cry his netbook is horribly, horribly broken it's not meant to go this slowly I'm sure14:15
davmor2mind you it means that the step son wants ubuntu on his when he gets it :)14:15
davmor2fader: U-A-32 installing fine so far about 2 more minutes or so to be sure :)14:16
fader:)14:17
davmor2fader: base installed, user setup, now install general packages14:20
faderdavmor2: This is for ubuntu karmic-alternate-i386?14:20
davmor2or as we call it in the trade U-A-32 :)  you really should read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/DailySmoke :P14:22
davmor2fader: trying K-L-64 now too :)14:23
davmor2Sometime I wish I could be a little more sarcastic but then I realise it's taken me 36 years to perfect this level :D14:25
faderdavmor2: Just keep trying; I'm sure you'll alienate everyone eventually ;)14:26
davmor2fader: The KDE team are taking bugs from launchpad kne bugs so that could do with some love if you want to get mathben to have a look at that14:27
faderdavmor2: Roger, if we have time I'll ask him to play with kubuntu a bit.  He's got a pretty full plate today though, so it's a bit iffy.14:28
davmor2fader: at any time :)14:29
davmor2fader: alt and live both seemed to of installed okay :)15:10
faderdavmor2: Thanks.  cr3 was asking because we didn't get any automated test results for the images today, but it turned out to be some sort of issue with the proxy15:11
faderOr one of those other scary computer words that I don't understand15:11
davmor2admit it you forgot to switch the server on again didn't you?15:12
davmor2fader: ah the tangle web cr3 weaves15:13
cr3it's actually preseeding of proxy information which encountered a race condition between the public and private version of checkbox15:13
cr3davmor2: you can rest assured that turning machines on and off is not a problem in my realm :)15:13
fader^^ Yeah, that's what I was about to say15:13
davmor2cr3: oh right these bleedin' race conditions will keep occuring.  Hide the starters pistol and cut the race out altogether :)15:15
cr3davmor2: I think some gnome of the garden variety ran away with my starters pistol and is firing it when I least expect it15:16
faderWe need processors without clocks and cycles.  This emphasis on time and order and 'correctness' is harshing my buzz.15:16
davmor2cr3: can we get the gnome trained to shoot fader when he is in tom foolery mode?15:19
faderdavmor2: That's pretty much all the time15:20
cr3davmor2: he'd complain about not having a machine gun15:21
davmor2bazzoka15:21
fadercr3: I think you'd automate it anyway.  But davmor2 can be the proxy here.15:22
cr3fader: as long as we remember to turn him on15:22
fader...15:22
faderEw.15:22
davmor2cr3: I don't want turning on by you guys /me shudders gringes and races to the loo to throw up15:23
cr3fader: haha, I so didn't mean it that way, I was referring to his earlier comment about turning on the proxy servers15:23
cr3davmor2: for once, my mind wasn't the one in the gutter! I'm following MGA (Mind in the Gutter Anonymous) meetings to get better15:25
fadercr3: I'd think the gutter would be a step up for you, no?15:25
cr3fader: shhh, don't let the MGA folks know, there's no association that goes any lower except LCA (Lost Cause Anonymous)15:26
faderHeh15:26
* fader is tempted to say LCA > SCA but there might be SCAdians about who would hit him.15:26
davmor2cr3: just below that you get slda surely (Sad Lonely Developers Anonymous)15:27
faderdavmor2: Do you expect to test the UNR image from today?15:41
fadermathben tried it on a couple of machines in Montreal but the install failed15:42
davmor2fader: I can have a look if ever it fscking well finished updating,  I can't remember did I mention I hate this on my machine I want to kill it now?15:44
faderdavmor2: I think you might have said something to that effect once or twice.15:44
davmor2die, die, die damn you die!!!!!!!!!15:45
faderIf it ever finishes updating and you can test the UNR image, I'll be interested to see if you get the same results... I would like to see if you can reproduce them before I file a bug15:48
faderI'll give it a shot here as well in a VM but that might not be the best test15:49
davmor2Yay finally finished it's updates now to back it up so I don't need to gouge my eyes out with flaming pokers again16:26
faderWoohoo!16:27
natureshadowRunning apt-get upgrade on karmic over a 768 kbit/s DSL line twice a day can be annoying ;)16:47
davmor2natureshadow: you want to try updating 28-ish iso images :)16:51
natureshadowdavmor2: If you change the release cycle to some 5 years or so, of course ;)17:01
natureshadowOff-Topic: Does someone know about some cool trick of limitting the bandwidth available to a program?17:03
davmor2fader: had to update the iso transferring to usb now17:18
faderdavmor2: Roger, thanks.17:18
faderI'm trying to get it going as a PXE install here to see if it boots; it might just be a bad USB stick, as images back to the 25th also failed17:18
davmor2fader: I find that karmic's new disc feature is quite good for ironing out formating issues.  But once week I hit it with a format from windows17:20
faderdavmor2: Eh?  Which new disc feature is that?17:20
davmor2fader: stick the usb in a karmic box right click on the icon for it and hit format17:20
faderAh, hadn't seen that.17:21
davmor2your so missing out dude :)17:21
faderUnfortunately I do not have the stick in question... but it's a good thing to try17:21
davmor2fader: applications system tools17:21
fadermathben: ^^^ we might want to try this if you are running karmic17:21
fader(right-click and format the USB stick)17:21
davmor2fader: it's easier and works where as other linux methods tend to screw with it after a bit17:22
mathbenfader: i am not running karmic ¬¬17:24
fadermathben: Okay.  Perhaps on one of the laptops then when you are doing testing?17:24
faderNo hurry though, let's get the testing we can do in :)17:25
davmor2fader: live desktop up17:26
faderdavmor2: On UNR?17:26
davmor2yeap17:26
faderOkay, mathben said it was failing on install17:26
faderIssues with mounting somewhere17:26
davmor2fader: running install now17:27
davmor2fader: http://www.davmor2.co.uk/disks.png and http://www.davmor2.co.uk/format.png17:30
davmor2fader: As I understand it it is part of the new devicekit-discs stuff17:33
faderdavmor2: Nifty.17:34
davmor2fader, mathben: Errno 5 error by any chance?17:43
faderdavmor2: I don't believe he was going through the live install, so it was giving more descriptive errors17:44
davmor2let me go over to #u-installer  for a minute17:45
fadermathben: Do you remember the error you got from the USB disk?17:45
mathbeni will reproduce the error in fiew minute... I formated my key and remake the usb-key17:46
davmor2right had a word with cjwatson he has said standard log file to the bug plus if you are running d-i and get added info add that to the bug too17:50
davmor2fader, mathben: ^17:51
davmor2standard logs are partman and syslog17:51
faderdavmor2: Roger, thanks.17:52
fadermathben: If you can reproduce it we will grab those logs :)17:52
davmor2fader: would you like me to file off the bug and you add to it?17:52
faderdavmor2: If you have enough data to file the bug, go ahead and we will supplement it17:52
faderIf not, let's make sure we can repro it first17:52
davmor2I can add my logs if they tally with yours it's a problem across the board :)17:53
davmor2fader: actually cjwatson just asked if we can file separate bugs and he'll deal with the linking :)17:54
faderdavmor2: Gotcha.  Will do.17:55
davmor2it's too generic a bug17:55
davmor2so 2 reports that read the same is fine for him :)17:55
davmor2fader: my bug is 42064718:01
faderdavmor2: Thanks18:01
