Amaranthman I don't know how you guys do this GTK+ building crap00:25
Amaranthtrying to test a patch, building everything each time is...wow00:26
pochuincremental builds maybe?00:29
Amaranth_pochu: not if you build the whole set of packages, it runs configure 3 times so the normal 'debuild binary' trick doesn't help00:40
=== Amaranth_ is now known as Amaranth
pochuAmaranth: I was thinking in a git master clone00:45
pochuoh you mean a patch for the ubuntu package00:45
pochuyeah it takes a while so you better are careful ;)00:46
Amaranthpochu: yeah I just did a ./configure && make then copied the .so to the right place00:58
Amaranththen make a change, make, etc00:58
Amaranthnow I get to wait for the whole thing to build just to double check01:01
rugby471hi06:48
pittiGood morning08:42
rugby471hello08:43
rugby471Laney : about reproducing that f-spot bug, I can't seem to find how to rename the image image in f-spot09:04
rugby471mac_v: the progress icon etc. is now completely finished :-)09:19
rugby471mac_v + anyone who is interested in software-store : http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31003424/out-3.ogv09:25
rugby471the icon is good quality, I just wanted to keep the video size down :-)09:25
mac_vrugby471: "Fixed in my branch :-)" hehe ;)09:35
mac_vbtw the animation looks great :)09:36
rugby471hehe09:36
rugby471well it is your animation :-)09:36
mac_vrugby471: right now , i'm trying a variant of madsRh's icon ;p09:37
rugby471cool09:37
mac_vrugby471: how come you didnt submit anything for the boot? ;)09:40
rugby471didn't fee like it :-)09:40
rugby471fee > feel09:40
rugby471hehe09:40
rugby471no, I am not that good an artist09:41
rugby471sometimes I get lucky (like with the breathe folder icon) but I lack primary ideas to do something like that09:41
mac_v;p , me too09:42
rugby471Laney : hi10:58
rugby471Laney : how is the f-spot packaging going10:59
rugby471need me to test anything else?10:59
Laneyno11:00
Laneyit's all good11:00
rugby471kl11:00
rugby471mpt : hi13:55
mpthi rugby47113:55
rugby471I have made quite a bit of progress on software-store13:55
rugby471mpt: there were some things I wanted to ask you about that are in the spec13:56
mptok13:56
rugby471mpt: first question - on the mockup of the inidivdual application view it doesn't show the search entry box, however in the spec it says that the search function should be disabled, which is the one you want?13:57
mptrugby471, not shown at all. I'll fix that now.13:58
rugby471mpt: currently in my branch I have it disabled (ie. grayed out and non clickable) which I think is the best as it is less visually distarcting than making it disapper13:58
rugby471oh okay13:58
mptrugby471, <http://paste.ubuntu.com/261954/> is a list of the other things I'm planning to update/finish in the spec today, so if your questions are on any of those sections, let me know. :-)13:58
rugby471kl13:59
rugby471mpt: I shall update my branch so that it hides then13:59
rugby471mpt: second question do you want the navigation bar & the search entry completely hidden on the in progress/pending view (like in the mockup) or just the navigation bar and search entry hidden14:00
rugby471sorry that doesn't make sense14:00
mptquite :-)14:00
mpthttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwareStore?action=diff&rev2=126&rev1=12514:00
rugby471do you want the while top bar hidden (like in the mockup) or just the search entry and navigation bar14:01
mpt"while top bar"? whole top bar?14:01
rugby471yup14:01
mptSo the second option is leaving the bar there, just with nothing in it?14:01
rugby471sorry for some reason I have just gone illiterate14:01
rugby471yup14:01
mptwhole top bar not-there, please14:02
rugby471okay14:02
rugby471any finally last question :-)14:02
rugby471at the moment, the installed software button just acts like a filter (ie. the views for get free software and installed software are the same, they have just been filtered)14:03
rugby471do you want the installed software view to look like the mockup?14:03
rugby471Ie. the collapsable categories14:03
mac_vmpt: hi... working overtime eh? ;)14:04
mptmac_v, yeah, I'll work today and tomorrow instead of some days in the future14:04
mptso that I don't keep all you wonderful Software Store contributors waiting :-)14:04
rugby471hehe14:05
mac_v;)14:05
mac_vmpt: got 1 question about the icon design ,a very rough icon , still WIP > is this something you guys are interested?  http://imagebin.ca/view/DlXlplwO.html14:05
mac_vlike a shopping brown bag ,14:06
mptmac_v, that could be the very beginning of an interesting icon14:06
mac_vits very rough :( , just wanted to know the direction you expect14:06
mac_vor even an shopping basket with CD ?14:07
mptI think we'd want less CD and more dozens of little apps poking out of it :-)14:07
mac_vmpt: yeah thats good , but which app to choose ?14:07
mac_vthats where i got confused and went with the cd14:07
mptNot any specific current app icons, perhaps, just lots of different plausible ones14:08
rugby471mpt:  do you want the installed software view to look like the mockup? Ie. the collapsable categories14:10
mptWhich applications they were would only start being noticable at large sizes (e.g. as shown in Gnome Do), of course, at normal launcher sizes they'd just look like colored dots14:10
mac_vusing icons of apps would that violate copyright?14:12
mptrugby471, yes please. This is because it's mainly for finding stuff where you already know its name and/or what menu it's in, as opposed to the "Get Free Software" section where people are more often browsing.14:12
rugby471mpt: ok14:12
mac_vbut not similar to the original icon14:12
mptmac_v, exactly, that's why they'd need to be plausible-looking application icons as opposed to real ones14:12
rugby471mpt: BTW here's a video of some work me and mvo finished http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31003424/out-3.ogv (sorry about bad vid quality)14:12
mac_vhm..14:12
mac_vmpt: ok... i'll come up with some app icons.... do you like the idea of brown bag or shopping basket?14:13
mptrugby471, nice work!14:14
rugby471hehe when I had it working I just shouted "Oh yes!"14:14
mptmac_v, yes, that seems promising. Another vague idea I thought of was of applications flying out of a magician's hat with wand, but that doesn't really fit with the whole "store" metaphor14:15
mac_vhehe , yeah , wont fit store ;)14:15
mac_vmpt: also another idea , apps stacked in a shelf display? but would be tough to do :(14:18
mptyeah14:18
mptAn aisle full of shelves, or a a shopping bag, or a shopping basket (might be hard to draw a basket well in a non-tiny size), or a store as a whole (like Sebastian Porta's)14:19
mptAh, I see MadsRH has done a shopping bag as well <https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwareStore/Icons>14:20
mac_vmpt: the brown bag was from madsRH's idea... i felt his was too saturated :(14:20
mptyes, it is14:20
mac_vshelves ah... could try that :)14:20
mptand it would be quite expensive for any store to print an Ubuntu logo in those colors on a bag that color :-)14:21
mac_vhehe14:21
mac_vmpt: another question , you want the Ubuntu logo to be present, right?14:38
mac_vbecause for basket getting the logo in addition would would be tough14:38
mptmac_v, not particularly. Only if it makes sense for the context.14:38
mptYes, it might make sense on the side of a bag but not on a basket14:39
mac_vthats great  :)14:39
rugby471mpt: okay I have made those changes, the search etc. is now hidden and shown when appropriate14:53
mptthanks rugby47114:54
rugby471mpt: about the installed view thing, I think that mvo has started that as they are some python files not being used called cat_and_app.py etc. so I shall wait till he starts work on it again and ask him14:54
rugby471np14:54
mptok14:54
rugby471they > there14:54
rugby471not much else I can do now until mvo is back :-)14:55
mptreally?14:58
mptI can think of at least one small thing ;-)14:58
rugby471what is that?14:59
mptI noticed in your video that the path button still has the glitch where the last one stays behind if you navigate up to a higher level14:59
rugby471yeah14:59
rugby471I wrote half the code for that to be corrected14:59
rugby471just waiting for mvo to provide the other half14:59
rugby471basically I wrote to code to hide it14:59
rugby471he just needs to write the code the query the database and see if the app in the breadcrumbs is in the category you just clicked15:00
rugby471if so, leave it there, otherwise remove it15:00
mptI'm not sure what you mean15:00
rugby471ok15:00
rugby471sorry15:00
mptThe last item in the path button should always be where you are right now.15:01
rugby471I though if you clicked on say the category button, the app button would still stay there and you could go back to it15:01
rugby471like the behaviour of nautilus15:02
mpte.g. if you're looking at the "Accessories" list, the last item should always be "Accessories", not "Album Shaper".15:02
rugby471are we not doing the nautilus behaviour then?15:03
mptI'd prefer not15:03
mptit's quite weird15:03
rugby471oh okay15:03
rugby471that makes it a lot easier then :-)15:03
mptcool15:03
rugby471hehe15:03
rugby471I shall do that then :-)15:03
mptthanks15:04
rugby471mpt: okay I have set half of that behaviour15:31
rugby471however there is currently a bug that stops me from clearing the app button when I click the category button15:32
rugby471however whe clicking the home button it works (ie. clears category and app)15:33

mptrugby471, still around?17:40
mptbbiab17:43
rugby471mpt: hi18:48
rugby471mpt: sorry I just missed you :-)18:48
rugby471mpt: you around?18:58
mpt_rugby471, I was going to ask about whether the "Pause All" and "Resume All" buttons were feasible for 1.019:20
mpt_and then I saw the "Cancel" button in the Synaptic download window19:20
mpt_so, I know at least cancelling a download is19:20
rugby471yeah19:20
mpt_So, I'm drawing a new mockup that replaces those two buttons with a "Cancel All" button for 1.019:20
mpt_where the button would be sensitive only when there is at least one task that either (a) is currently downloading stuff or (b) hasn't started at all yet19:20
mpt_While I was in Karmic I also reported a couple of bugs, just in case you've run out of things to do ;-)19:20
rugby471well you could ask mvo19:20
rugby471kl19:20
rugby471mvo knows all about the internals of software-store (obviously) so he could tell you if it was feasible19:21
=== mpt_ is now known as mpt
didrocksmpt: hey. I worked a little bit to see the state of the python binding for clutter. Well, the gobject-instrospection stuff does not support animation. I take a look at clutter-gtk python binding but it's still young and does not support the last "crack" which is needed to be implemented in software-store. I talked to dev and hope it's just a matter of a couple of weeks19:24
mptdidrocks, so, Karmic+1 then? :-)19:25
rugby471mpt_: cool some easy to fix bugs :-)19:25
didrocksmpt: not sure, again, clutter needs 3D driver activated which will be the case for GNOME3. So, let's say GNOME-3 targeted :)19:26
mptOk. Thanks for researching that, didrocks19:26
didrocksmpt: I'll now have a look at the "where is it?" stuff even if we don't drop it into karmic version :)19:26
mptdidrocks, is there a bug report to track the python clutter work?19:26
didrocksmpt: not yet, just mails in clutter ML19:27
mptok19:27
didrocksmpt: I'll follow that matter19:27
mptthanks19:27
mptrugby471, there's also quite a bit of weirdness with the path button changing when you do a search. My fault, because I hadn't specified it in enough detail, so I'm doing that now.19:28
didrocksso, looking at the "where is it" option and then, if you have any other stuff (not using clutter for the moment), that I can do, do not hesitate :)19:28
rugby471mpt: okay tell me when you are done and I can implement it (hopefully :-] )19:28
rugby471mpt: as regards to : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-store/+bug/42156119:29
ubottuLaunchpad bug 421561 in software-store "Department screen has inappropriate "Icon" and "Name" column headers" [Undecided,New]19:29
rugby471I can remove the headers of the collumns19:29
rugby471however I cannot remove the dotted lines between the icons and the text (where you say "there should not even be visible columns, let alone columns with headers") is this okay?19:30
mptthat would be an improvement19:30
mptThe dotted lines seem to be partly theme-dependent19:30
rugby471yeah they are19:30
mpte.g. they're there in Human, but not in Human-Clearlooks19:30
rugby471yup19:30
mptIt's a little bit of 1980s19:31
rugby471mpt : I do't think they are that much of a problem, they help guide the users eye's to what they need to read and what is just an image19:31
rugby471hehe19:31
mptwell it would make slightly more sense if the rows had borders and the columns did not19:31
rugby471mpt: well that is all the gtk theme :-)19:32
mptbecause the icons are more related to their applications than they are to each other.19:32
rugby471hmm.. yeah, anyway the dotted lines aren't that visible so I wouldn't say it is a hude issue :-)19:34
rugby471hide > huge19:34
rugby471mpt : nearly finsihed fixing those 3 issue19:36
mptsweet!19:36
rugby471mpt : that columns one is a contestant for world's smallest patch :-)19:37
mptone-liner?19:39
rugby471yup :-)19:41
rugby471mpt: ca only fix two bugs, the focus one needs another look at19:42
rugby471ca > can19:42
rugby471mpt: however I feel it will be fixed when we solve the other search entry focus issue19:42
rugby471it is the same underlying issue19:42
rugby471that the applist get's focus19:42
rugby471k pushed to my branch19:43
rugby471mpt: by the way one last question19:44
rugby471when software-store finishes installing an application19:44
rugby471is there anywhere that the user can view what changes have happened in the session19:45
rugby471otherwise you might have the situation where the user installs says 5 appplications19:45
rugby471and forgets one or two19:45
rugby471but there is nowhere he can see what he did install19:45
rugby471gnome-app-install has this in the form of the dialog box that pops up and shows you what has been installed19:46
mptrugby471, yeah, that is a problem. I can think of two ways to do that19:48
mptOne is a bare-bones implementation of the "History" section (that I haven't specced yet), that would show most recent changes at the top19:48
mptThe other is to have some way of sorting "Installed Software" by date installed19:48
rugby471I was thinking about the first option myself :-19:49
rugby471)19:49
mptheh, ok19:49
mptI'll add it to my to-do list19:49
rugby471hehe sorry :-)19:49
