sbalneavEvening LaserJock01:15
LaserJockhi sbalneav01:23
LaserJocktoday, I believe, we built our first real Edubuntu DVD01:23
* sbalneav capers about wildly01:39
sbalneavAnd I'm applying group profiles01:39
sbalneavA red letter day.01:40
sbalneavWhere can I download it?01:40
mhall1191LaserJock: where can I get the ISO?02:14
LaserJocksorry, had to take the dog for a walk02:17
LaserJockmhall1191, sbalneav : http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/edubuntu/dvd/current/ is the URL02:19
LaserJockI'm not sure how working it is right now02:19
LaserJockbut it *should* be building from our seed02:19
mhall1191I was gonna ask for a torrent file, but I guess it won't do a whole lot of good02:20
LaserJockno02:20
LaserJockonce you download it the first time you can rsync it though02:20
* mhall1191 needs more disk space in order to download it02:20
mhall1191I also need to go buy some DVD-Rs02:21
mhall1191and hijack my wife's computer, as mine doesn't have a burner02:21
* sbalneav hugs LaserJock02:21
* mhall1191 makes a list02:21
mhall1191what is the uninstallable packages report?02:22
LaserJockmhall1191: I'm not sure I would bother burning it if you don't have to02:23
mhall1191LaserJock: then how would I test it?02:23
LaserJockmhall1191: testing via virtualbox/kvm/vmware is probably best02:23
mhall1191again with the lack of disk space02:24
LaserJockthis first builds are going to be pretty throw-away02:24
mhall1191it is a Live DVD, or just installer?02:24
LaserJockshould be Live02:24
mhall1191cool02:24
LaserJockjust like Ubuntu's DVD02:24
* mhall1191 didn't know what Ubuntu's DVDs were02:24
LaserJockah02:24
mhall1191I've only ever played with CDs02:25
LaserJockwell, they basically like combining the Desktop and Alternate CDs02:25
LaserJockso you can do either live or old-school installer02:25
mhall1191cool02:25
LaserJockfor Ubuntu the Live part is pretty much exactly the same as the Ubuntu Desktop CD02:26
LaserJockfor us, since we don't already have a Live CD, I can basically make the Live part as be anything we want02:26
LaserJockgotta run and take a shower, bbiab02:27
sbalneavI DID IT!!!03:34
HedgeMagesbalneav: what?03:34
sbalneavI can't *BELEIVE* it03:34
sbalneavI added group apply to Sabayon!03:34
sbalneavWow03:34
sbalneavAmazing03:34
HedgeMagehehe :)03:34
sbalneavHey HedgeMage03:35

wimadoes anyone how to disable the 'restart required' dialog after a kernel update?11:15
wimaIt seems that every user at login gets a dialog to restart the system if a package update requires so.11:16
wimaOn an LTSP system, this is of course not very useful11:16
ograwima, it should go away if you actually did a restart11:17
wimai know11:18
ograsimple reciepe, dont do maintenance during worktime ;)11:18
wimabut i cannot restart the system now. it is in use11:18
wimait is alwys worktime here :)11:19
ograthere is likely some file under /var/lib/update-notifier/11:19
ograor in user.d in that dir11:19
wimai enabled automatic security updates. That was probably not a good isea11:19
wimathanks. I'll have a look11:20
ograi think there is a way to adjust when they actually run11:20
ograso you could let them run at night11:20
wimais it safe to just remove update-notifier? Is displaying this dialog the only thing it does?11:24
ograno, leave it alone11:26
ograit does all kinds of stuff11:26
wimaok11:27
wimaediting /usr/share/update-notifier/notify-reboot-required should do the trick...11:41
sbalneavMorning all14:49
Ahmuck-Srhi sbalneav15:08
sbalneavSo, Laser's pulled a Magic Rabbit out of an orifice, and we've got dvd images now.15:28

LnsHi HedgeMage, scottie!17:17
HedgeMageDon't ask me, I don't keep track of meetings any more.17:17
Lnslol17:18
* Lns notices the #edubuntu meetings are rarely on the ubuntu fridge calendar17:23
sbalneavI'm not sure.17:25
sbalneavI'll be here, anyay17:25
Lnscoolio17:26
Lnshi LaserJock17:28

alkisgWoah, even nubae|work is here... this meeting will have the most participants ever :)17:37
Lnsalkisg, what time is the meeting?17:45
alkisgLns: I have no idea, I think you're the only one knowing about it :)17:45
Lnsthat's pretty sad!17:46
Lnst-14min17:47
Lns"next meeting a week from now: Fri Sept 4, 17:00 UTC"17:47
LaserJockthere's a meeting?17:47
alkisgLns, see? ^^^ :D17:47
alkisgUmmm we need to start writing an agenta... !17:48
LnsLOL...maybe i should just give you all access to my calendar through webdav and keep you all in line =p17:48
LaserJockan email the day of the meeting would probably suffice17:48
LaserJockor ... regular meetings times also are a big help17:48
Lnsyeah that would probably be good :)17:49
Lnsus humanoids are easy to train with repetition and structure17:49
alkisgThere's a very silent "translations meeting" in #ubuntu-meeting now...17:54
Lnswho scheduled the meeting?18:02
ace_suares1YO21:40
ace_suares1was at the beach, missed the meeting, also didn't put the meeting on the wiki or in the fridge, the fridge won't take my meeting updates anyway, next meeting a week from now, Fri 11 sep 17:00 UTC !21:40
ace_suares1:-)21:41
nubaewhat meeting?21:44
nubaeI've been in here the whole time, and haven't seen or heard anything21:44
alkisgnubae: we pinged you :)21:44
alkisg(07:37:06 μμ) alkisg: Woah, even nubae|work is here... this meeting will have the most participants ever :)21:44
nubaehmmm... ok :-/21:44
nubaeshit I must have been doing something else21:45
nubaeI have got to get my act together and get to these meetings...21:46
nubaealkisg: btw,,, if u wanna see a presentation of how the local linux distro came into being and the impact it had on schools (maybe interesting to you dunno): http://speeches.ofset.org/jrfernandez/2009/ginebra_glx/21:50
nubaeu need to hit space var ro make it go to next pages21:51
nubaeclicking wouldnt work for me21:51
ace_suares1nubae the meeting would be in ubuntu-meeting anyway.21:52
Lnsnubae, i mentioned pyclic but since you weren't there.... ;)21:52
alkisgnubae: sure I wanted to ask you about something like this, I wanna try and convince the ministry here to create/distibute a greek edu ubuntu remix...21:52
nubaeyeah mia culpa21:52
nubaealkisg: well there is some amo... maybe21:52
nubaeso the next meeting is next Friday... what time exactly?21:54
Lnssame bat time, same bat chan?21:57
ace_suares1well SOMEONE needs to put in in Edubuntu/WikiSite/Meeting and also in the fridge. I propose we do regular weekly meetings so it's not that you need to wait 2 motnhs for the next one21:57
ace_suares1I know I lost a LOT of momentum waiting for a meeting that turned out to be well  hmm not a meeting since only sbalneav from the team was there. booh (but hurray for sbalneav)21:58
alkisgace_suares1: laserjock was there21:58
alkisgHe talked about the new dvd edubuntu release21:59
ace_suares1not last meeting ( I mean last week, not 4 hrs ago)21:59
alkisgAh ok21:59
ace_suares1alkisg: I'd like that there would be a 'political' working group somewhere to help us convincing ministeries. Our Education Minister is totally not interested...22:00
nubaewell, I didn't know there was a meeting to be honest... it wasnt sent to mailing list this time was it?22:00
alkisgYeah that would be nice... here there are just a few people interested, and I hope we can climb though them to the upper levels ;)22:00
ace_suares1wow I only have to wait 5 hrs for the dvd to download! Hope it doesn't become a new build halfway through :-(22:00
ace_suares1but i guess the rsync will help me.22:01
nubaeace_suares1: I recommend u use rsync22:01
nubaeor zsync... think thats active now in karmic downloads22:01
ace_suares1yeah nubae there are files qith zsync at the end, what do I do with thart?22:02
ace_suares1qith = with, thart=that22:02
ace_suares1should i NOT download the full iso first, but start with the zsync file ?22:03
nubaelook for a zsync howto22:03
ace_suares1nubae thanks! I will definately do that some time!22:03
ace_suares1meanwhile...22:03
nubaeand then write a course for it at linux-for-education.org :-)22:03
ace_suares1so I am aske dto test a dvd, and in order to do that, I do haver to first find a manual for zasync, and then write a moodle course for some site that is not edubuntu.org? Hmm22:04
ace_suares1dont know if I am motivated!22:04
nubaelinux-for-education.org is related to ALL edu linux22:04
nubaeand already contains 2 specific ed/ubuntu courses22:05
ace_suares1that doesnt really answer my question if I first should d/l the iso or not! Would be bad if I later discovered that that was a waste of time!22:05
nubaeas far as I know its the only place u can find on how to set up your desktop to have a whole set of nice working apps for your edubuntu setup22:05
nubaewhy would it be a waste of time?22:05
nubaeu learn zsync, and u download latest edubuntu image...22:06
nubaeits hardly wasting time22:06
ace_suares1I started downloading the iso. Should I abort that and use zsync or can i use zsync later on that donwloaded iso ?22:07
nubaeu can later use zsync on that download I would imagine22:07
nubae(don't quote/blame me if that is not the case)22:07
ace_suares1imagine... a world without war!22:07
ace_suares1so you don't know, okay, nice, you recommend zsync but you don't know this... a pity! Maybe you should leand zsync and write a tutrorial?22:08
nubaeI know rsync, and I know what zsync does22:09
nubaebut I dont know every intircate detail of it it, I use google for that22:09
ace_suares1nubae cool! I use google to. Couldn't find the answer to my question. Hmm maybe I won't test today, maybe tomorrow :-)22:09
nubaeI write enough tutorials, probably far more than anyone else22:09
nubaeso I do resent that comment22:10
nubaejeez.... makes me wonder why I even bother22:10
ace_suares1nubae: the point is: I am a nobody and I want to test. I started downloading a DVD that is more then 5 (more likely ten) hours of download. You hint that there is a better way. But that hint is incomplete. So as a newbie nobody tester, I stand in awe of those who know more, but what to do? I really don't know. That was my point, I was not trying to make you fele bad.22:11
ace_suares1Edubuntu needs better 'etiquette' towards people who want to help, Is my opnion.22:12
ace_suares1-------------------- 0.6% 131.0 kBps 482:59 ETA22:13
ace_suares1with that donwload eating all my bandwidth, I'll put off editing the Meeting page till later...22:14
ZhombeeI have a question about the edubuntu CD that I created from the dowloadable iso file. How is it possible that it cannot "find the package on the server" if the files are on the CD? Or am I assuming too much? I'm trying to install the educational desktop for ubuntu, and it keeps giving me that error.22:17
ZhombeeAh. I see.22:31
