=== johanbr__ is now known as johanbr [23:33] hey [23:34] If I want to upgrade to 2.6.31 is it better to use the .deb's (http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.31-rc8/) or compile my own (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/GitKernelBuild)... [23:34] if using the deb's, which do I install and in what order? [23:35] also, i'm running 9.04 x32 on Wubi [23:40] nvm, found this: http://www.ramoonus.nl/2009/06/10/linux-kernel-2-6-30-installation-guide-for-ubuntu-and-debian-linux/ [23:40] I guess debs would be easier [23:41] yeah [23:41] just install the linux-image- package. And maybe the corresponding linux-headers- package too. [23:41] plus cloning the 2.6 tree would take forever at 60kbp/s [23:41] :/ [23:41] ok [23:41] I have /home backed up if this fscks up [23:42] (this is my first kernel re-install) :-P [23:42] It definitely shouldn't affect /home. [23:42] The worst thing that could happen is that your system won't boot. [23:43] yeah thats why I backed it up [23:44] i'll just uninstall and reinstall [23:44] then copy over /home [23:46] It's often convenient to have /home on a separate partition. Then you can reinstall without losing your files. [23:46] yeah [23:47] I think I have that setup on my main PC [23:47] just this a wubi install, because I never got around to repartitioning [23:48] I have 9.04 on my main PC, except ext4 not 3 [23:49] will Karmic use kernel 2.6.31? [23:49] * DBAlex pokes johanbr [23:49] yes [23:51] ok [23:59] brb [23:59] reboot
