[00:57] good evening [00:57] tgm4883, you around? [00:57] williammanda, for a few minutes [00:57] hey buddy...how are you? [00:58] good, getting everything back up since I switched to 0.22 [00:58] or -trunk rather [00:58] is it good? [00:58] the UI specfically [00:59] yea, pretty nice [00:59] I like the mythvideo changes [00:59] it has the VDPAU? [01:00] don't know, my card doesn't support it [01:00] mostly i'm talking just the frontend here, looks a lot better [01:01] yea....was looking at xbmc ui this weekend [01:01] is it like that? [01:02] I haven't tested xbmc lately [01:02] there was a reference on mythv site about one of the UI is like xbmc [01:03] anyway.... [01:03] I have a question concerning the metadata for videos [01:04] if I'm trying to get the artwork and info for a video.....what is the best way to do that? [01:05] none of my videos that I have ripped have any artwork or info [01:05] are you using -trunk? [01:05] no ....using the latest stable [01:06] with 9.04 [01:06] are you using imdb.pl or tmdb.pl? [01:07] not sure....this is a learning experience [01:08] well unless you changed it, you are using imdb.pl [01:08] which, meh, gets broken every time they change their site [01:08] ok...this is just the mythvideo installed by mythbuntu [01:08] I'd switch to tmdb.pl [01:08] ok...how? [01:08] sec [01:08] sure [01:10] on another note I was answering a bunch of posts today on mythbuntu forums....alot of strange questions [01:10] I feel sorry for you! [01:12] ok, so you need to grab some files from mythtv svn, and then change some settings in mythvideo [01:12] http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Tmdb.pl [01:12] I found the tmdb on the mythtv wiki [01:13] got that site [01:13] so should I just follow that page? [01:14] yea, it doesn't have the mythvideo changes you need to make though [01:14] ok [01:14] IIRC, it's just changing imdb to tmdb in mythvideo [01:14] would changing over to thr trunk be better? [01:15] no, you can use it fine with 0.21 [01:15] ok [01:18] so I'm not using the subversion correct? [01:22] it's the same script for trunk and 0.21 [01:22] if you have subversion installed, use that, if not, use the other one [01:23] hello all, wondering if I posted a few questions maybe I could get some help.... [01:23] DVDs will not play, it goes to a black screen then exits back to menu [01:23] Will start a rip but ends [01:23] also [01:23] jbs12345, libdvdcss2 installed? [01:24] let me check [01:24] is there an apt-get package for it? [01:24] I used the Ubuntu 9 mythbuntu fresh install [01:25] jbs12345, use mythbuntu control centre [01:26] ok [01:27] where is best place in the menu to find it, sorry, i just installed this and started playing [01:27] with it [01:28] ok, so you are going to need a keyboard and a mouse for MCC, or you could use SSH forwarding [01:29] it's under System > Administration [01:30] in the frontend or? [01:30] don't see it [01:30] sorry [01:30] no, exit the frontend [01:32] ok i am in the control centre [01:33] ok, there should be a proprietary codecs button [01:37] tgm4883, I installed the two scripts....whats next? [01:37] ok, in the frontend, go to the general mythvideo settings [01:37] it should have 4 commands for getting video data [01:38] change all the imdb.pl to tmdb.pl [01:38] make sure the path is right [01:39] tgm, ok i am at the proprietary codecs button [01:39] you see the libdvdcss2? [01:40] yep , clicking enable [01:40] ok updated the imdb to tmdb [01:40] also enabled the nvidia driv er [01:41] jbs12345, ok, well if you enabled it, then it should work now [01:41] lets hope :) [01:41] although, there is a small issue with some dvds in 0.21 and the internal player [01:41] I used xine instead [01:42] do I need to reboot as it didnt work? [01:43] you shouldn't [01:43] what dvd? [01:44] pioneer i think [01:44] let me try one more thing [01:44] williammanda, ok, try to get some metadata then [01:44] gonna reboot and hope lol...thanks and brb [01:45] tgm4883, how? [01:45] err, ok [01:45] williammanda, with the video manager in the frontend? [01:46] I get the "enter imdb #" [01:46] ah [01:49] so what next? [01:52] woot dvd works but works too well lol [01:52] plays the movie with 2 screens [01:53] on top of each other [01:53] jbs12345, ah, you have an ati card then? [01:53] nvidia [01:53] built in with hdmi [01:53] I'll have to search the forums for that answer, i remember seeing it in there a couple times [01:53] i'm working on something else atm though [01:53] woot, thank you [01:53] about to test the digital out\ [01:54] williammanda, http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1101527 [01:57] Anyone familiar with troubleshooting sound issues? I'm running mythbuntu 9.04 + latest auto-builds. Was running fine earlier. Installed Eclipse and for wahtever reason, I get no sound in any applications. [01:57] volume button? [01:57] Rebooted several times, tried reinstalled alsa-utils, but no luck. Checked all my connections. [01:57] muted? [01:58] Nope, not muted. I even started up my box in a live cd, and sound worked. [01:58] Strnge thing is, that when I reboot, it does start muted [01:58] * tgm4883 shrugs [01:59] I'm not sure what eclipse would have changed [01:59] I haven't tried removing eclipse, but I didn't think it would matter. [02:00] tgm, it is an ati... [02:00] video [02:00] just fixed the driver to correct one [02:00] What can I run in the console to just send random noise to my soundcard? [02:00] and still that issue [02:02] ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics [02:03] don't hear anything with "aplay /dev/random" [02:04] bah, gonna end up having to start fresh [02:10] tgm4883, I did the command from the post and I don't get the "enter imdb #" when in the video manager.....what's next [02:10] williammanda, you should now be able to search normally. If you can't, then i'm not sure whats next [02:10] you might be able to do it via command line [02:10] search how? [02:11] err, press M on your keyboard and it should pop up a menu letting you search [02:11] jbs12345, take a look at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1188912&highlight=double+video&page=2 [02:11] might be an issue with the deinterlacer you are using === gbutters_away is now known as gbutters [02:15] The ChanServ beep from chatzilla comes through though? WTF. [02:17] tgm4883, so I will need to setup each video manually? Using the M in the video manager [02:20] g [02:22] tgm4883, if that is the case....it seems to pull down the video description but not the artwork [02:23] how does the beep from chatzilla work, but no other sound works. that's petty damn ridiculous [02:23] orificium_: Please watch your language. [02:26] williammanda, check the permissions on the posters directory at /var/lib/mythtv/posters [02:26] and yes, you have to do it per video [02:26] alternatively, you could grab the imdb_bulk_updater script [02:26] is that on mythtv? [02:30] is that the "fill mythvideo metadata.pl"? [02:39] williammanda, no, ryan pisani makes it, you can google it and grab it from his website [02:41] tgm4883, ryan site is based on imdb not tmdb...is this ok? [03:02] So I uninstalled pulseaudio, and my sound works again. strange stuff [03:18] anyone use the .22 repos? [03:18] i am [03:19] what did you do to get there from .21? [03:21] installed mythbuntu 9.04 using ISO, rebooted, enabled restricted drivers and enabled nvidia 180.x, downloaded mythbuntu repos package, installed packaged, enabled trunk, and ran sudo apt-get upgrade [03:22] sudo apt-get dist-upgrade was giving me a different. upgrade worked out better for me [03:22] so the trunk is .22.... [03:23] yeah [03:23] so is it stable? [03:25] I run it pretty sucessfully [03:27] you didn't have 9.04 running previously....my main concern is the upgrade [03:27] Yeah I started fresh. [03:28] you could backup your myth database [03:28] how to backup the database? [03:29] Isn't there an option in Mythbuntu Control Center? [03:30] hm, maybe not, but I believe there is information on the wiki. [03:31] http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Database_Backup_and_Restore [03:31] there is no option for a backup in MCC [03:32] your post is for .22 [03:34] hm, you should keep reading [03:34] "Although the scripts are only distributed with post-0.21 versions of MythTV, they were written to work with any version of MythTV (including 0.21-fixes and before)." [03:35] there is also http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Backup_your_database [03:36] ok I need to read alittle more [03:41] Oh I also had to run mythfrontend -r to reset the theme after installing .22 [03:42] what is "-r"? [03:42] And I'm not sure if it'll matter, bu I avoided installing mytharchive until after I had things working per a recommendation from this channel [03:42] Resets the theme [03:42] mythfrontend --help [03:43] Is there a particular reason you want to upgrade to .22? [03:43] sure [03:43] why did you? [03:44] If you're not looking forward to issues/troubleshooting, you might want to wait untilt he official release. I understand .22 will be on 9.10 [03:44] I wanted to see the new themes and try out VDPAU [03:44] me too on your last statement [03:45] I really don't care about issues [03:46] I want to try out the changes [03:47] Note that VDPAU only works with nvidia 8 and 9 series cards [03:47] But I would like to know about the issues when changing from stable to trunk [03:48] VDPAU is no issue [03:49] can I keep the same databasee info [03:49] That, I'm not sure of. [03:50] http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/MythVideo_.22_Transition_Guide [05:51] williammanda: unless you are a mythtv dev it is recommended you stay away from trunk [05:52] unless you know how to fix the problems that may arise [05:52] and follow al the mailing lists [05:52] meaning there is alot of work ahead easiest way is just to wait for .22 [06:19] Is it normal for mythbuntu to lock after install? Ie, I just finished the install... black screen, screen goes into standby, and... nothin' [06:20] Well, I guess that was a dumb question, how do I get mythbuntu to let me see dmesg, and all other messages while booting? [06:36] ok now.. upon re-install, it seems that it gets stuck on "Scanning the mirror".... wth do I do to tell it to retry, or ... something? [06:36] SIGUP? [06:36] err SIGHUP? [06:37] wow n/m i got it.. heh... I feel way less outta control here :P [11:32] Because LIRC 0.5.3 is not going to be included, if we do have to download it from a PPA will the break or not enable us to use the configuration options within MCC? === __Mazga is now known as _Mazga [14:40] Long story - short: Built MythBuntu 9.04 test system on 15GB HD no problem. Built one on intended production 40GB HD and it gets stuck during boot. Finds MBR code and comes up to "grub>" prompt. What gives? Looking at the contents of the /boot partition from the MythBuntu Live CD environment, it looks ok. I'm stumped. Main difference between the 15GB drive partitioning and the 40GB drive was the size of the root partitio [15:50] While I was waiting for help, I was rooting through the mythbuntu forum some more and ran across info on repairing grub. The interesting thing is that the instructions talk about executing the command "find /boot/grub/stage1". I don't find that, but I DO find /grub/stage1. Is the difference because I put /boot on it's own partition? [20:33] I have an msi motherboard w/phenom x4 9550 and i can't boot the cd. acpi errors. I tried putting my hard drives in ide mode and that did not help either. Same issue with all versions of ubuntu. I was able to boot ubuntu/mythbuntu once via wubi but i want to put it on an entire drive. Any tips on getting it to work? [21:22] ++ [21:24] williammanda: take the plunge yet? [21:25] sorry my daughter typing [21:26] will be back in a few to dicuss more [22:07] I'm having problems with the mythbuntu installer. When I run it, nothing happens. this is on mythbuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso. [22:07] I'm trying to install mythbuntu onto a box with an existing ubuntu jaunty install that I don't care about overwriting. [22:07] I burned a live CD, booted the box up under it, selected the "install" menu item, it gave me a mythbuntu desktop, I double click on "install" and some text flashes in the menu bar at the top, "Starting administrative application", then disappears, nothing happens. [22:08] Looking at the icon properties, it just invokes "ubiquity mythbuntu_ui". When I type that at the shell, it just returns without any messages. There's no --verbose flag for ubiquity. [23:30] orificium, you around? [23:39] does mythtv work with xbox360? [23:47] xguru, no [23:50] AIUI the xbox360 can playback content via UPnP [23:50] but it's a poor solution [23:51] tgm4883, I did the changes for mythvideo but there are still some issues [23:51] hmm...Microsoft sucks [23:51] Daviey, it can, but not mpeg2 stuff [23:52] ah [23:52] so it's stuck with mythvideo only, and only if its avi [23:52] and certain codecs and such [23:52] < Daviey> but it's a poor solution [23:52] :) [23:52] williammanda, what issues? [23:52] brb, have to move my car [23:54] hmm...can u use wine and run something like tversity? [23:55] xguru, poor solution. fuppes is a better solution, iirc you will need to compile it though [23:56] i have fuppes installed....just having issues with the xbox seeing it. i guess i will have to read more :P [23:56] tgm4883, http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=7913336&postcount=5 [23:57] williammanda, did you share your video directory accross your network? [23:58] no....didn't think I had too [23:58] wait.... [23:58] yea, you have to. IIRC 0.22 has support for streaming media over the myth protocol [23:58] yes the video dir is shared via nfs [23:58] williammanda, is the posters directory? [23:58] poster no [23:59] so I need to nfs share the poster directory? [23:59] williammanda, http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Mediashares [23:59] yes, if you want the posters to show up on other frontends
