williammandaone more issue00:00
williammandawhat can I do about data for the videos being erased when the vidoe manager asks to update?00:01
tgm4883are you going into the video manager from multiple frontends?00:02
williammandaon the master backend, it asked to erase a video data and the previous metadata for all the other videos was erased...00:04
tgm4883err, don't tell it to erase metadata?00:04
williammandawhen prompted using the slave backend, it did the same00:04
tgm4883ah00:04
tgm4883did you mount the share in the same folder?00:05
williammandawhen I don't select no or no to all it gives double entries for the videos.....the double entries are without the metadata and cover art00:06
williammandaI have nfs setup between the computers00:06
tgm4883williammanda, what is the video directory on your master backend00:07
williammandait is the standard mythbuntu .....hold on00:07
williammanda/var/lib/mythtv/videos00:07
tgm4883ok, what is the video directory on your slave backend?00:08
williammandathe same00:08
tgm4883ok, where did you mount your nfs video share?00:08
williammandaI only mount one nfs share....00:08
tgm4883right00:09
tgm4883and what is the mount point for it?00:09
williammandaI have a separate HD that has some videos besides the standard mythbuntu nfs setup for videos00:10
williammandain export it is ...00:11
tgm4883no00:11
tgm4883ok00:11
tgm4883on00:11
tgm4883on your slave backend, what directory do you go into to see the movies in your master backend?00:11
williammandaits the same for the master backend00:12
williammandawhat is setup ny mythbuntu00:12
williammanda/var/lib/mythtv/vidoes00:13
tgm4883ok00:13
tgm4883will here is how mythvideo works00:13
tgm4883it keeps the directory where the videos are stored in the database00:14
tgm4883all frontends use this info, so on all frontends the videos have to be stored in the same path00:14
tgm4883ie, /var/lib/mythtv/videos00:14
tgm4883when you run the video manager, it will ask you to remove videos that it cannot find00:14
tgm4883which is what is happening in your situation00:15
tgm4883so you need to figure out why your slave backend cannot find the videos in the same path that your master backend can00:15
williammandaok00:16
williammandait seems that what you are saying is true.....00:17
tgm4883yea it should be00:17
tgm4883i've dealt alot with that exact problem00:17
williammandathe videos I have a another drive are being erased00:17
williammandaas I said I have another drive that has some videos00:18
williammandaI set that up using nfs00:18
williammandaand a simlink00:18
williammandathese are the videos that have the metadata erased00:19
williammandaI keep alot of videos on a separate hd so when I change dist I still have them00:20
williammandaI set this hd up using nfs so I can view them once I make a change00:21
MythbuntuGuest03Hi, hoping you can help with a problem. I just installed my first MythBuntu (8.10) using one PVR150 card. After everything seemed fine I added a second PVR150 card but can't seem to get this working.00:21
tgm4883MythbuntuGuest03, did you run mythtv-setup and add a second capture card?00:23
MythbuntuGuest03Yes I added the second card, and scanned for channels which it found. I set it up with both it's own Video source and also tried the same one. But when I try to record two programs and try and switch between both to watch them I can only get to one of them, the other one just sends me back to the main menu00:25
MythbuntuGuest03I haven't yet set a priority for these two cards, is that necessary?00:25
williammandaok so I just went and made a change and selected the video manager....I selected yes to all and the metadata and cover art is gone for the additional hd00:25
tgm4883!logs | MythbuntuGuest0300:26
tgm4883williammanda, did you do that on the master BE or the SBE?00:26
williammandabut I still have the metadata & cover art for the videos on the main HD00:26
williammandaMaster backend00:27
tgm4883williammanda, ok, so your videos directory has the vidoes in it then?00:27
tgm4883hmm00:28
tgm4883rhpot1991, where is Zinn?00:28
tgm4883MythbuntuGuest03, pastebin your logs, you can use mythbuntu-log-grabber and then post the link here00:28
DavieyZinn is based on fail :)00:30
williammandatgm4883, yes & no....00:30
williammandaI have videos in the /var/lib/mythtv/videos and I have videos from another hd that is simlinked from another hd00:31
williammandathe videos from the other hd are the ones that are getting the metadata & cover art removed00:31
MythbuntuGuest03tgm4883, http://mythbuntu.pastebin.com/f2a5d1c3000:32
tgm4883MythbuntuGuest03, how fast is your computer, how much ram, hard drive info?00:35
MythbuntuGuest03tgm4883, 2.2ghz, 1gb ram, 240gb hd (older sata model), really old videocard Nvidia mx4000 but that was all I had laying around00:40
tgm4883williammanda, so the symlinks are there right now, and are not broken?00:40
williammandatgm4883, yes I can play the videos00:40
tgm4883ok, get meta data for one of them, then exit and reenter the video manager00:41
tgm4883I want to see if it removes the metadata again00:41
williammandahow are you going to see that?00:46
tgm4883you are going to tell me?00:47
williammandaI already did00:47
williammandaI will move a video if you want but the result will be the same00:48
tgm4883no, don't move the video00:48
tgm4883just update metadata for it, exit and reenter the video manager, and let me know if the metadata gets erased00:49
williammandaok...if I don't move a video...not happens....what is the result?00:49
tgm4883if you don't move a video, then then the metadata should stay right?00:49
williammandayes00:49
tgm4883well then i'm not sure what the problem is?00:50
tgm4883 it seems to be working to me00:50
williammandaif I do move a video then I have the problem00:50
tgm4883so don't move the video?00:50
williammandacome on tgm4883 , that crazy00:51
tgm4883why is that crazy?00:51
tgm4883do you just move files around for the heck of it?00:51
williammandaif I want to move a video...I shouldn't lose the metadata & cover art00:51
williammandamythtv defaults to recording videos to /var/lib/videos00:52
tgm4883A) why must you move the videos around? are you bored?00:53
williammandaif I want to move it to another directory....the meatdata & cover art shouldn't erase00:53
tgm4883B) how if mythtv suppose to know where the video is if you move it around?00:53
tgm4883sec, let me check something00:53
tgm4883looks like in the DB the filename of the video is stored at the full path00:55
tgm4883so you may need to submit a patch for that00:55
williammandaok....listening to your argument...why doesn't mythtv let me assign where I want to locate the video to be stored?00:55
* tgm4883 shrugs00:56
tgm4883cause that isn't how it was designed?00:56
williammandaok...aside from what I think should be normal....what should I do to make this work under mythtv?00:58
williammandaHow can I have a hd of videos...00:58
tgm4883I just don't see why you want to push around 4GB files so much00:59
williammandaso That when I upgrade that mthtv will see it and keep the metadata01:00
tgm4883ok, so you have 2 hard drives with videos, and one is external?01:00
williammandano I have 2 drives....one with videos...one that I use for the distro...when it is installed01:02
tgm4883wait, then why are you moving videos around to other folders?01:03
williammandabecause mythtv only allows me to record to one directory01:03
williammandaI don't get an option01:04
williammandathings that I want to save ...I keep on the 2nd drive....things that I don't want to save are on the drive if I want to upgrade01:05
williammandaI want to have a drive to make changes too01:06
williammandaI want the ability to save something01:07
tgm4883hmm01:07
williammandalet me ask you this...01:07
williammandais there anything you want to save when you do an upgrade?01:08
williammandaif so ....where do you save it?01:08
williammandaI do this with the other HD01:09
tgm4883AFAIK, if you it, you have to rescan it. No way around that.  You may be able to select which drive videos get saved to if you setup mythvideo to use multiple directories01:10
tgm4883And all my content is stored on other drives/partitions. So if I do an upgrade it doesn't touch any of that01:10
williammandaYes I do a symlink so that I can see the other HD01:14
tgm4883yea, thats incorrectly setup though01:14
tgm4883look at http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Mediashares01:15
williammandawait...what do you mean incorrectly setup?01:16
tgm4883as in, don't use symlinks01:16
tgm4883setup mythvideo to look at multiple directories01:16
williammandaok01:17
williammandahow do I do that?01:17
tgm4883look at the fricken link i've posted for you 2 times now01:17
williammandaok...be civil .....I see 1 link and am I'm trying to read it while we talk01:19
tgm4883heh, if you think that wasn't civil, wait until you see me pissed off01:20
williammandaok I'm not trying to do that so please restrain01:21
williammandawhat did I do to make you act that way?01:21
tgm4883have you found the section on that page yet?01:22
tgm4883i'll give you a hint, it's at the very bottom01:22
williammandaok...so answer my question...what did I do?01:23
williammandaI though that we we working together to resolve problems01:24
tgm4883we are01:24
tgm4883i posted that link an hour and a half ago01:25
tgm4883MythbuntuGuest03, not sure the cause, but if you look at those logs you posted you have some major problems01:27
williammandaok sorry....my daughter was distracting me I didn't see it01:30
MythbuntuGuest03tgm4883, I'm not familiar with reading these logs, where does it point towards major problems?01:31

williammandaI spend some time answering crap questions too on the ubuntu forum01:35
williammandaanyway...thanks for your help01:37
* tgm4883 is not pissed off01:37

f0urtyfiveanyone have a suggestion as to why my myth install would suddenly stop scheduling new recordings?02:55
f0urtyfiveeven tho I can search for, and find the recordings manually?02:55
puffI'm having problems with the mythbuntu installer.  When I run it, nothing happens.  this is on mythbuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso.03:06
puffI burned a live CD, booted the box up under it, selected the "install" menu item, it gave me a mythbuntu desktop, I double click on "install" and some text flashes in the menu bar at the top,  "Starting administrative application", then disappears, nothing happens.03:06
puffLooking at the icon properties, it just invokes "ubiquity mythbuntu_ui".  When I type that at the shell, it just returns without any messages.  There's no --verbose flag for ubiquity.03:06
superm1puff, ubiquity errors are logged to /var/log/syslog03:31
superm1or if you run with --debug, they are put in /var/log/installer/*03:31
superm1Shadow__X, the wrapper script is to make sure you are in the right group03:32
superm1if you've got a better idea on how to recommend we do it, all ears :)03:32
Shadow__Xsuperm1: nope just asking03:52
Shadow__Xthanks for answering though i asked that awhile ago03:52
superm1i been out of town all weekend03:52
Shadow__Xno i am saying i am surprised you answered me because i asked awhile ago03:52
Shadow__Xthats alot of scroll back03:52
superm1oh :) i just look for things that have my name and answer those03:54
superm1i dont read "all" the scrollback03:54
Shadow__Xah ok03:54
Shadow__Xwell again thanks for the aswer03:54
Shadow__Xby anychance do you know how to stop nick hilight in irssi03:56
Shadow__Xwhen i was setting iti up i told it to hilick nick by accident03:56
superm1dont use irssi, so no sorry03:56
superm1its useful to leave on though03:57
superm1especially if you get responses several days later or something..03:57
Shadow__Xright but not for nick03:57
Shadow__Xit hilights "nick"03:57
Shadow__Xlol03:58
Shadow__Xnvm i fixed it thanks though03:58
Shadow__Xand how come irssi is great esp coupled with screen03:59
Shadow__Xyou can keep your irc session anywhere you go just reconnect03:59
superm1i like having a GUI for my IRC client, so i use xchat03:59
superm1and BIP as a proxy inbetween03:59
superm1so basically i can connect from any IRC client anywhere that i have access to the server i run BIP on03:59
puffsuperm1: Thanks.  I'll try that. Anything else I should look into?04:00
superm1its what me, tgm4883, rhpot1991, kirkland, foxbuntu` all do04:00
superm1puff, well use the ubuntu-bug tool to file a bug if it ends up being one04:01
superm1i think the syntax is "ubuntu-bug ubiquity"04:01
puffBP?04:01
superm1which would upload all the right logs04:01
puffEr, BIP?04:01
puffsuperm1: Neat.04:01
superm1puff, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bip_IRC_Proxy04:01
puffsuperm1: I use emacs irc mode as my client, and I leave it running under a detached screen.04:02
puffNeat.04:02
puffI might use that instead.04:02
puffThough I still live most of my life in vt100 land.04:02
Shadow__Xat.04:02
Shadow__X23:01 < superm1> puff, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bip_IRC_Proxy04:02
puffIf it weren't for web browsing, I would live all of my life in vt100 land :-).04:02
Shadow__Xoh thats nifty04:03
superm1dont get me wrong, i can work pretty well for a lot of things in a terminal, but I appreciate not having to "know" all the things my app supports every so often04:03
superm1and being able to "click" to do things04:04
puffI wonder how good BIP's architecture is, and if it could be adapted to support muds, too.04:04
superm1those are text based RPG's right?04:04
puffHm?04:05
puffWell, some are, sure.04:05
Shadow__Xhmm yeah i agree sometimes gui is nice04:05
puffThey're chat systems with a zork-like metaphor.04:05
superm1that's all i ever remember hearing about them at least04:05
Shadow__Xbut i am liking irssi04:05
puffAnd often with a much, much more sophisticated programming model than IRC :-)".04:06
puffAlthough muds have seldom (if ever) handled the distributed server thing as well as IRC.04:07
puffsuperm1: Hm, well, it looks like the install is going alright this time around, no idea why it didn't work last time.  The only "odd" detail is the  "chassis intrused" error, but I'm still getting that.08:08
orificium_puff: i wonder if MajorMUD is still around.  Was into that a bit in the 90s.15:17
Guest54852Hi all, I just did a freah reinstall putting in 9.04. However my mouse, the gyration mce one, wasn't detected/installed right. every where I look its just talk about how its suppost to work out of the box. How do I redo the mouse setup/detect/etc?21:04
Guest54852it thinks it's a macintosh mouse for some reason (that's what's listed in the mouse settings)21:05
Guest54852I have no "inputdevice" entry in xorg.conf21:12
Guest54852oh nm, im looking at some old forum post21:13
gunniI have some troubles with the today weekly trunk build of mythfrontend. Anything known about this? http://pastebin.com/f316ad89422:00
tgm4883gunni, try to start "mythfrontend -r"22:01
gunniNo success: http://pastebin.com/f4b87e04922:02
tgm4883hmm22:03
tgm4883try "mythfrontend -Theme=GANT"22:03
gunniInvalid argument: -Theme=GANT22:04
tgm4883mythfrontend -O theme=gant22:04
gunniBut one good news: mythweb warnings seem fixed :)22:04
gunni-O theme=gant no success, too22:05
gunniWait, i ll check if its only frontend related, by starting mythfrontend on the not updated laptop22:06
gunniok starts on the laptop22:06
gunniluckyly this time the protocol version did not change, so i got one running frontend :)22:15
