djanatynHello :)00:53
djanatynI've been using xubuntu for a while, but I've been encountering a lot of errors.00:56
djanatynI installed it on my PowerPC, which is working fine, and I wanted to remove it from my XP box.00:57
djanatynI have the live cd for ubuntu ready, and I think I just need to delete the partition.00:57
djanatynHowever, will deleting my xubuntu partition completely uninstall GRUB?00:57

_Trinity_hi all05:04
_Trinity_is there a xubuntu powerpc irc channel?05:04
Techiejust ask in here05:05
Techiei would help you normally, but im about to go out05:06
Techieanyway, best of luck and i hope you solve whatever issue you are having05:06
j1mc_Trinity_: i think there's just a generic #ubuntu-ppc channel05:07
j1mcit looks like you found it. :)05:08
_Trinity_the xubuntu-powerpc CD desn't quute boot my my iMac DV. It shuts down. The Ubuntu-powerpc cd does the same.05:08
j1mc:/05:08
j1mcwhat version are you running?05:08
_Trinity_thanks, got that channel already. Just checkng05:08
_Trinity_there a prob with video support for that card too.05:09
_Trinity_ATI Rage 12805:09
majukCan anyone give me an idea why LVM says I have 300gigs free yet 0 extents free? http://dpaste.com/92138/05:14
j1mc_Trinity_: unfortunately, i'm not really an expert with PPC issues. best of luck to you, though.05:21
_Trinity_Well, I upgraded from an earlier release. Can I even report it as a bug considering that official support was dropped.05:31
j1mc_Trinity_: you can report it as a bug.  The people who still work on the PPC port will appreciate the information.  You may wish to acknowledge that you know the PPC builds only receive community support now, but... I don't think it will hurt to report a bug.05:38
_Trinity_thanks05:39

Techie_Trinity_ - you still around?>06:29
_Trinity_for a bit, why?06:29
Techiedid you say you were running an ATI rage 12806:30
_Trinity_yep06:30
_Trinity_you running that too?06:30
Techieever come across a problem where the screen blurs and a greenish fog spreads across your screen?06:30
_Trinity_not at all06:31
Techiei got a PowerBook G4 laptop that i currently have OS X 10.4.11 Server installed on06:31
Techieif i could figure out that bug then i would be running debian on it06:31
_Trinity_mine starts to vibrate and move around the screen, though06:31
Techiebetter than no display though06:32
_Trinity_strange. I assume it the car because with screens today it's either working or not working --as best as I know06:32
_Trinity_have you thrown in a live-cd just to see if the problem cops up while running say ubuntu off of the CD?06:34
Techieumm06:34
Techieno, i use alternative installs as live cd's dont seem to work06:34
Techiehowever06:34
Techiethe problem did start appearing in Xubuntu 6.10 i think06:34
_Trinity_get a hoary or warty CD, they worked06:35
Techieused to have 6.04 on it ages ago06:35
_Trinity_oh06:35
_Trinity_and it shows up on OS X, too?06:35
Techieno, oddly OS X is perfectly fine06:36
_Trinity_so maybe it isn't hardware related06:36
_Trinity_the Rage 128 cards seem to lack a lot of support with ubuntu06:38
_Trinity_I had better luck with Debian06:38
_Trinity_years ago06:38
Techieyeah, although lenny gives the same bug06:39
_Trinity_although I had other problems06:39
_Trinity_I'm running jaunty on my iMac DV06:39
_Trinity_but I can't get the X r128 or ati drivers to work06:39
Techiehehe06:40
Techieati is a bitch06:40
_Trinity_so I'm running on some generic driver that gives me 26 FPS if I'm lucky06:40
Techiei have a radeon 9600 in this pc06:40
Techieneedless to say, i dont run linux on this box06:41
_Trinity_feels incredibly slow so much that I'm pondering using console programs almost exclusively06:41
TechieCLI apps are fun06:41
_Trinity_at least until this X problem gets sorted.I got a report written up. I just have to submit it06:42
Techieas a server tech im extremely used to them06:42
_Trinity_lol06:42
_Trinity_I once spent a week without X, when I first installed debian with a server style install. The deault X server was brken06:43
Techie... i wish i could netboot my powerbook06:43
_Trinity_so I had to install danzer's compiled binaries06:43
_Trinity_that's who Ubuntu needs working on their ATI support06:43
Techieyeah06:43
Techiejust thinking if you do decide to go CLI then good on ya06:44
Techiemost people find it extremely daunting, but its a great learning experience06:44
Techieyou much of a mac person? or just happen to have some mac hardware in your possession?06:46
_Trinity_I was never really part of the Mac cult. I just started buyging them beacuse a one time tehy made better hardware, or so I thought due to my aweful experience06:48
_Trinity_with PC hardware06:48
Techielol06:48
Techiemost people think that06:48
_Trinity_now, not so much. I got a MacBook Pro sitting with a bad motherboard for the 2nd time06:48
Techiebut truly, its the same hardware06:48
Techiejust macs use set parts that work well together and work perfectly in OS X06:49
_Trinity_yes and no06:49
_Trinity_they used to use IBMs processors obviously06:49
Techieyep06:50
_Trinity_they used to use different harddrive technology06:50
_Trinity_from whta I remember06:50
Techiehow so?06:50
_Trinity_and now their PCs, don't use BIOS06:50
Techieas far as i know they never used BIOS's06:50
Techieit was all just set bootloader code06:51
_Trinity_at some point buying a mac was like buying a good PC, I'll give you that. Now, I thnk they've become a victim of their own succes. Running things out of the design rooms into production before propper testing06:52
Techieyeah, i agree with that06:52
_Trinity_the tech shop is charging me half the price of the macBook Pro just to replace the motherboard06:53
_Trinity_it's the intel Yonah based one06:54
_Trinity_they had heat proeblems and fans that took off like race cars. Apple issued a recall and I had my motherboard replcaed for free the first time.06:54
_Trinity_I argued that it shuold be covered as it's obvious that the replacement board is faulty too. Problem is that it's no longer under warranty and they're not claiming responsibility. I'm going to write apple directly06:57
Techieapple are assholes like that06:58
_Trinity_and you know what caused the problem, or so I assume as thi is what I was doing before it flat-lined? Get this, compiling code with MacPorts.  MacBook Pro is for developers. Yeah right! Lol!06:59
_Trinity_off topic06:59
Techieim gonna go AFK im testing NX on _Pete_'s box06:59
_Trinity_enjoy07:01
