[00:53] Hello :) [00:56] I've been using xubuntu for a while, but I've been encountering a lot of errors. [00:57] I installed it on my PowerPC, which is working fine, and I wanted to remove it from my XP box. [00:57] I have the live cd for ubuntu ready, and I think I just need to delete the partition. [00:57] However, will deleting my xubuntu partition completely uninstall GRUB? [01:44] Hi again... [01:45] I just downloaded an iso image file how can I check the md5sum.... [02:06] ...does anyone knows how to check md5sum with Xubuntu??? [02:17] my GIMP just stopped working... any ideas? [02:20] reinstall, then try deleting profile files. [02:21] is there already a dns cache of some sort installed on *buntu ? [02:21] or moving profile files [02:22] I did reinstall... which profile files? [02:23] ~/.gimp-*/ [02:25] what does ~/.gimp-*/ [02:25] do? [02:26] I dont see anything called profile in that directory [02:29] I typed gimp and it installed version 2.2 which is working... [02:40] then your problems are solved [02:58] i need help installin aircrack 1.0 final thru terminal :l since on repositories there is an older version ne1 can help??!?!?!?! [03:01] ??????????????????????????? [05:04] <_Trinity_> hi all [05:04] <_Trinity_> is there a xubuntu powerpc irc channel? [05:05] just ask in here [05:06] i would help you normally, but im about to go out [05:06] anyway, best of luck and i hope you solve whatever issue you are having [05:07] _Trinity_: i think there's just a generic #ubuntu-ppc channel [05:08] it looks like you found it. :) [05:08] <_Trinity_> the xubuntu-powerpc CD desn't quute boot my my iMac DV. It shuts down. The Ubuntu-powerpc cd does the same. [05:08] :/ [05:08] what version are you running? [05:08] <_Trinity_> thanks, got that channel already. Just checkng [05:09] <_Trinity_> there a prob with video support for that card too. [05:09] <_Trinity_> ATI Rage 128 [05:14] Can anyone give me an idea why LVM says I have 300gigs free yet 0 extents free? http://dpaste.com/92138/ [05:21] _Trinity_: unfortunately, i'm not really an expert with PPC issues. best of luck to you, though. [05:31] <_Trinity_> Well, I upgraded from an earlier release. Can I even report it as a bug considering that official support was dropped. [05:38] _Trinity_: you can report it as a bug. The people who still work on the PPC port will appreciate the information. You may wish to acknowledge that you know the PPC builds only receive community support now, but... I don't think it will hurt to report a bug. [05:39] <_Trinity_> thanks === KittyKatt is now known as KittyKatt|BRB === KittyKatt|BRB is now known as KittyKatt [06:29] _Trinity_ - you still around?> [06:29] <_Trinity_> for a bit, why? [06:30] did you say you were running an ATI rage 128 [06:30] <_Trinity_> yep [06:30] <_Trinity_> you running that too? [06:30] ever come across a problem where the screen blurs and a greenish fog spreads across your screen? [06:31] <_Trinity_> not at all [06:31] i got a PowerBook G4 laptop that i currently have OS X 10.4.11 Server installed on [06:31] if i could figure out that bug then i would be running debian on it [06:31] <_Trinity_> mine starts to vibrate and move around the screen, though [06:32] better than no display though [06:32] <_Trinity_> strange. I assume it the car because with screens today it's either working or not working --as best as I know [06:34] <_Trinity_> have you thrown in a live-cd just to see if the problem cops up while running say ubuntu off of the CD? [06:34] umm [06:34] no, i use alternative installs as live cd's dont seem to work [06:34] however [06:34] the problem did start appearing in Xubuntu 6.10 i think [06:35] <_Trinity_> get a hoary or warty CD, they worked [06:35] used to have 6.04 on it ages ago [06:35] <_Trinity_> oh [06:35] <_Trinity_> and it shows up on OS X, too? [06:36] no, oddly OS X is perfectly fine [06:36] <_Trinity_> so maybe it isn't hardware related [06:38] <_Trinity_> the Rage 128 cards seem to lack a lot of support with ubuntu [06:38] <_Trinity_> I had better luck with Debian [06:38] <_Trinity_> years ago [06:39] yeah, although lenny gives the same bug [06:39] <_Trinity_> although I had other problems [06:39] <_Trinity_> I'm running jaunty on my iMac DV [06:39] <_Trinity_> but I can't get the X r128 or ati drivers to work [06:40] hehe [06:40] ati is a bitch [06:40] <_Trinity_> so I'm running on some generic driver that gives me 26 FPS if I'm lucky [06:40] i have a radeon 9600 in this pc [06:41] needless to say, i dont run linux on this box [06:41] <_Trinity_> feels incredibly slow so much that I'm pondering using console programs almost exclusively [06:41] CLI apps are fun [06:42] <_Trinity_> at least until this X problem gets sorted.I got a report written up. I just have to submit it [06:42] as a server tech im extremely used to them [06:42] <_Trinity_> lol [06:43] <_Trinity_> I once spent a week without X, when I first installed debian with a server style install. The deault X server was brken [06:43] ... i wish i could netboot my powerbook [06:43] <_Trinity_> so I had to install danzer's compiled binaries [06:43] <_Trinity_> that's who Ubuntu needs working on their ATI support [06:43] yeah [06:44] just thinking if you do decide to go CLI then good on ya [06:44] most people find it extremely daunting, but its a great learning experience [06:46] you much of a mac person? or just happen to have some mac hardware in your possession? [06:48] <_Trinity_> I was never really part of the Mac cult. I just started buyging them beacuse a one time tehy made better hardware, or so I thought due to my aweful experience [06:48] <_Trinity_> with PC hardware [06:48] lol [06:48] most people think that [06:48] <_Trinity_> now, not so much. I got a MacBook Pro sitting with a bad motherboard for the 2nd time [06:48] but truly, its the same hardware [06:49] just macs use set parts that work well together and work perfectly in OS X [06:49] <_Trinity_> yes and no [06:49] <_Trinity_> they used to use IBMs processors obviously [06:50] yep [06:50] <_Trinity_> they used to use different harddrive technology [06:50] <_Trinity_> from whta I remember [06:50] how so? [06:50] <_Trinity_> and now their PCs, don't use BIOS [06:50] as far as i know they never used BIOS's [06:51] it was all just set bootloader code [06:52] <_Trinity_> at some point buying a mac was like buying a good PC, I'll give you that. Now, I thnk they've become a victim of their own succes. Running things out of the design rooms into production before propper testing [06:52] yeah, i agree with that [06:53] <_Trinity_> the tech shop is charging me half the price of the macBook Pro just to replace the motherboard [06:54] <_Trinity_> it's the intel Yonah based one [06:54] <_Trinity_> they had heat proeblems and fans that took off like race cars. Apple issued a recall and I had my motherboard replcaed for free the first time. [06:57] <_Trinity_> I argued that it shuold be covered as it's obvious that the replacement board is faulty too. Problem is that it's no longer under warranty and they're not claiming responsibility. I'm going to write apple directly [06:58] apple are assholes like that [06:59] <_Trinity_> and you know what caused the problem, or so I assume as thi is what I was doing before it flat-lined? Get this, compiling code with MacPorts. MacBook Pro is for developers. Yeah right! Lol! [06:59] <_Trinity_> off topic [06:59] im gonna go AFK im testing NX on _Pete_'s box [07:01] <_Trinity_> enjoy [07:07] i have created icon theme using this naming guideline http://standards.freedesktop.org/icon-naming-spec/latest/ar01s04.html but icon theme is not working can any specify me any guide for "Standard icon names for Xfce ?? === KittyKatt is now known as ChaosKatt === ChaosKatt is now known as KittyKatt [12:36] [AmsG] Getting off for the night/morning. [17:31] Can anyone give me an idea why LVM says I have 300gigs free yet 0 extents free? http://dpaste.com/92138/ [22:04] hi all, I just installed xubuntu 9.04 fresh install. I have a FAT32 partition on my system that I want to automount to /share ... I didn't set this option during install. is there a way to do it now ? am I mean to use fstab or the thunar-volman somehow ? [22:07] t2_: you could use fstab [22:18] i need a bit of help getting the places panel applet to open my trash.
