[00:00] er. #ubuntu-bugs-announce is back on. I am sorry, but we lost power for a good part of the day, due to storms [01:31] in UNR, has anyhad their speakers not work? [02:18] Would someone like to help me sleuth down a bug? I have the symptoms, but I'm not sure what log files I should also attach (or look at the diagnose, for that matter) [02:27] rockstar: which are the symptoms? [02:28] andresmujica, fresh Karmic install (daily iso build from last night). When I try to log in through gdm, it gives me a little looping animation, then a black screen, and then I'm back to gdm again. [02:28] I can log into xterm from gdm, but not gnome. [02:29] Nothing obvious in .xsession-errors, but .xsession-errors.old says it can't connect to :0.0 - which is odd, since gdm presumable should start :0.0 [02:31] /var/log/X.org.log shows no errors at all. [02:33] hmmm maybe compiz or xorg are dying... it could be a permissions issue too... are you able to start the session selecting the xterm option (one different from gnome.. don't recall the options right now) [02:33] the can't connect to :0.0 seems to be an xorg dying... [02:33] Yea, but I can't find the cause of Xorg dying, or I'd file a bug. [02:34] try to open a console session and tail -f .xsession-errors while login in so you can check the process. [02:34] if you want to, fill a bug with ubuntu-bug xorg [02:35] i need to reboot my system (long time without updates).. i'll be back in a few mins. [02:41] I'd love to file a bug with ubuntu-bug, but I seem to have a chicken/egg issue. No X, no browser, no ubuntu-bug. :/ [02:48] rockstar: The CLI interface should work fine ... w3m or lynx or whatever text mode browser you have ought to work... what happens when you try? [02:49] brb... fsck.. mount time in the future... [02:49] rockstar: Try DISPLAY="" ubuntu-bug ... so it *knows* you have no X. [02:51] jmarsden, alright. Still sleuthing for the problem. Looks like it may be related to polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1.desktop === yofel_ is now known as yofel [09:24] Hi everyone. I'm trying my hands at some of the unassigned bugs, as suggested here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/EasyTasks. I run into quite a few bugs regarding network cards - especially wireless cards. Looking over this list: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage I can't seem to find the right category for networks (or hardware in general). Where do I assign bugs related to network hardware not working? [10:41] hi [10:42] it looks like copying files using gnome-vfs is several times slower than with command line tools [10:43] I tried connecting to ftp and sftp via Places -> Connect to Server, and they both are slow as hell [10:44] the bug was reported first time in 2004, is it still not fixed???
