amitkcsurbhi: how goes your quest to get everything configured?08:35
csurbhistill cannot access the wiki08:38
smbhm, lets check on your page...08:38
* smb thinks we must fix your memberships08:39
csurbhiok08:39
* apw is getting bored of the i915 hangs already08:48
* smb slaps himself in advance for thinking evil replies08:49
* apw thinks you should run karmic for a bit just to feel my pain08:56
smbWell I run it on machines with ati and nvidia graphics. Which were supposed to be the more painfull...08:59
apwheh ... how is your ati.  with compiz mine is unusable09:01
smbI am not sure I enabled it fully but I can't remember any particular pain. I will have a go at the latest packages of the day later09:03
kervelhi, i want to make a custom version of linux-backports-modules-karmic in a PPA. i'm now using "dch -i 'rebuilt without rfkill'"  as part of my script .. but that doesn't result in the right version number10:00
kervelis there any recommendation on what to use for a PPA10:00
smbkervel, If you mean that adding ubuntu1 is not the right thing, probably the simplest thing is to sed it to what extension you want. But you would not want to increment the upload number10:11
kervelsmb i don't really know how version numbers work in ubuntu.. but i guess i need something like blabla-ubuntu1-custom1 or so10:20
kervelnow it changes ubuntu1 to ubuntu2 and so on10:20
kervelwhich is - i guess - not fine as it will conflict with a real version10:20
kervelmaybe10:20
smbIn the case of this package, no official version will have ubuntux in it, as it is not based on a debian package10:21
smbBut to make it clear where it comes from, you could replace the ubuntu by your nick, initials or whatever10:22
kervelok let me try ...10:45
rtgapw, did you make any headway on the disk performance issue you were seeing yesterday?13:11
apwrtg not as to root cause no, i am not 100% convinced there is a speciific issue in my case13:13
rtgapw, there is something going on with one of mine late in the process. the throbber just sits there for 15 seconds with no disk activity13:14
apwits entirly possible its showing that a rotating media does not like to be rattled13:14
apwrtg, that sounds different, mine is rattling its ass off for the whole time13:14
apwthough i think the same technique could help us13:14
apwif you install bootchart, then boot with bootchart=nostop13:15
apwthen boot, login, and run sudo /etc/init.d/stop-bootchart start13:15
apwit will give you a nice piccy to look at, which should show you what it hotught it was doing in that period13:15
rtgapw, ok, I'll bring it downstairs in a bit and give it a try13:16
apwi found i was taking a 7s hit every boot for schroot, changed recover to end in its config and i got 7s back13:16
apwspent most of my time looking at this i915 hang, have the upstream activly engaged as i seem to be able to reproduce almost at will right now13:17
rtgapw, thats either good, or a real pain the ass :)13:17
apwmostly the latter for me unfortunatly ... fortuanatly it seems to be pretty stable before the first suspend, and gets much more likley after13:19
gnarlrtg, good for us but pita for apw 13:19
apwso as long as i never sleep things are fine13:19
rtgapw, you'r eye'll get kind of red if you never sleep13:19
* apw watches a bunch of startup stuff get uploaded ... bumpy waters ahead13:19
apwrtg heheh13:19

amitkbug 42728914:56
ubot3Malone bug 427289 in linux-fsl-imx51 "hardware clock not saved if board power is removed on babbage 2.5" [High,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/42728914:56
kervelhi, no luck setting up my PPA (http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31842410/buildlog_ubuntu-karmic-i386.linux-backports-modules-2.6.31_2.6.31-10.12kervel2_CHROOTWAIT.txt.gz)15:01
kervelwhen i build the packages using pbuilder i didn't get this problem15:01
smbkervel, Looks a bit more like a ppa setup problem in general. If I read this right the pulled sysv-rc needs an initscripts package greater or equal 2.86.ds1-63 but only finds an older version...15:17
kervelhmm15:17
kervelso that means i need to wait and retry15:17
smbkervel, Hm, not sure where this old version comes from. rmadision for initscripts shows 2.87dsf-4ubuntu2 for karmic...15:20
kervelthing is, it seems these packages were just uploaded15:21
smbkervel, Might it be that you accidentally have jaunty in the first line of the debian/changelog15:21
kervelow let me check15:22
kervelbut then pbuilder would also fail15:22
kervelit says karmic, so that won't be it15:22
smbOk. Actually it seems to pull from karmic. Just the version number seemed close to the one in jaunty15:23
kervelon my local system the initscripts upgrade is held15:24
kervelso i guess its a general problem with karmic15:24
rtgKeybuk, help! https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/2.6.31-10.33/+build/1244811/+files/buildlog_ubuntu-karmic-i386.linux_2.6.31-10.33_CHROOTWAIT.txt.gz15:25
rtgsomething new.15:25
kervelrtg looks like my problem15:26
Keybukyes15:26
Keybukit'll cure itself after the next publisher run15:26
rtgyeah, 'cause there ain't no sysv-rc dependency15:27
rtgKeybuk, so, since its in a CHROOTWAIT state, will it automagically restart?15:28
Keybukno, it'll need an admin to give back15:29
Keybukcolin just said he'd do that15:29
smbrtg, Somewhat interesting, as rmadison already shows the new version and I also had pulled it to a test system15:30
rtgsmb, what did you pull? it hasn't built yet15:30
smbrtg, dpkg -l on karmic64 shows it installed...15:31
rtgsmb, -10.33 ?15:31
smbno the initscripts15:31
rtgsmb, have you ever noticed that were are often on totally different tracks?15:32
rtgs/were/we/15:32
smbThe following packages have unmet dependencies:15:33
smb  sysv-rc: Breaks: initscripts (< 2.86.ds1-63) but 2.86.ds1-61ubuntu16 is to be installed15:33
smbI guess that was your problem as well15:33
smbas that of kervel 15:33
rtgyep15:33
smb +++-==============-==============-============================================15:33
smbii  initscripts    2.87dsf-4ubunt scripts for initializing and shutting down t15:33
smbJust found it interesting that it seems to be installable but not available for the ppa's or buildd's15:34
kervelinitscripts is not installable on my karmic box15:34
kervelor it comes with a warning ... (you are about to do something potentially harmful)15:35
smbkervel, mine is a 64bit system and likely I ignored the warnings... Its a test system anyway15:36
smbrtg, But yes, I guess my jump in thoughts was a bit steep15:39

NakidGirl_With_II googled16:22
NakidGirl_With_II was looking for some latest prebuild images which I could use, and Thanks16:22
NakidGirl_With_II can do that on centos , but jaunty is failing16:22
rtgIIRC Hardy is the last dom0 kernel. zul?16:23

NakidGirl_With_IThanks guyzz.. thats why I told that morron that even centos is better ..ciao 16:38
apwyeah right ... go for it NG16:39
rtggosh, I was just about to paste a link :)16:40
apwrtg, major positive progress on the i915 hanging bugs ... it looks to be a mesa bug ... and we have what appears to be the fix.  proved it was the issue using a kernel  patch which added more validation.16:58
rtgapw, cool. worth an upload?17:00
apwthe fix itself is mesa, so i don't think we need to panic on the kerenl17:00
apwi'm just trying to persuade ickle to push the kernel patch to stable17:01
apwas that does protect us and makes any bug obvious as your screen is poop17:01
apwi suspect is worth us applying it to our tree so its in the next upload whenever that occurs tho.17:01
apwright now without mesa fixed it will trash everyones screen :)17:02
rtgapw, wfm17:02
apwhas the kernel with the ext4 fix already gone up?17:03
rtgapw, yep17:04

jjohansen1erichammond: ah17:14
jjohansen1rtg: did you do any config updates for the EC2 kernel?17:15
rtgjjohansen1, I have not uploaded the source package, but he configs should be closer to server17:15
smoseri thought we said to do these in -server. oh well17:15

smoseri dont care17:16
smoserjust i wasn't here, thinking it was there. anyway. this is fine.17:16
smoseri'll go first if you dont mind17:16
rtglets do it in -server since there are folks interested in that channel17:16
smoseri'm planning on later today publishing the karmic kernels to eu-west-1, and getting ec2-version-query updated 17:17
smoserok. moving there.17:17

apwrtg his timing stinks!  38 mins ago17:20
rtgapw, its not too late17:20
apwis it worth spinning yet another kernel for?17:20
rtgapw, probably not as long as thefix is in the pipeline.17:21

apwbootchart=nostop19:25
apwthen sudo /etc/init.d/stop-bootchart start19:25
apwrtg just rember to boot twice, the first one after an update is always an sreadahead watch mode19:27
rtgapw, boot twice after an update, right?19:28
apwyeah the first one is always slow cause of sreadahead watching and learning19:28
apwso profile the second one19:29
rtgapw, should that be /etc/init.d/stop-readahead start ?19:56
rtgapw, never mind. needed to install bootchart.20:07
kervelis there any idea yet when the building problems (related to initscripts , sysv-rc) will be fixed ? i'm still unable to do anything useful20:14
