MythbuntuGuest68I asked this question earlier today but I had to leave. I am running a Mythbuntu backend/frontend which had worked flawlessly until last night when I rebooted. Nothing shows up under upcoming recordings, even if I set a specific episode to record. I've tried adding new schedules but nothing works. MythWeb says that there are schedules but nothing is recording. Watching Live TV and hitting record works, but schedules don't. Can anyone help?02:54
darthanubisweeeiiirrrd02:58
MythbuntuGuest68Yeah, 3 episodes of one show were deleted too.02:59
d__finnI think I'm pretty close to having a new, first time myth install working.  I can get TV when using mplayer /dev/video0 but nothing via myth03:23
d__finnit did pick up all my channels when it did the channel scan though03:23
d__finnthis is on 9.0403:24
d__finnanybody alive?03:24
gizmobayyou still here d___finn03:40
gizmobayd__finn03:41
d__finnyup, still here03:48
d__finni think I got it working03:48
gizmobayokay03:48
d__finnthe card type was set to V4L, I switched it to MPEG-2 since I'm using a PVR-15003:48
d__finnthe video really doesn't look very good though03:49
gizmobayoh yes, that'll do it03:49
d__finnI'm using a PVR-15003:49
gizmobayon the PVR150?03:49
d__finnyeah03:49
d__finnbut the cable signal is good because it looks fine when plugged into the TV03:49
gizmobayit won't look as good as the tv03:50
d__finnwhy's that?03:50
gizmobayI think the tv signal is processed and some info is naturally lost03:50
d__finnthe video is slightly shifted to the left, can that be fixed?03:51
d__finnand my remote isn't working03:51
gizmobayI never ran into the video shift03:52
d__finnis there a way to turn the volume up in Myth with the keyboard?03:53
gizmobaytry utilities/setup -> setup - > SCreen setup wizards03:53
d__finnok, let me check that out03:53
d__finnbtw, the video shift only happens when watching TV, the myth interface looks perfect03:54
gizmobaytry f11 volume up03:54
gizmobayf10 down03:54
d__finnawesome, that fixed the video shift03:54
d__finnthanks!03:54
gizmobaycool glad it worked03:55
d__finnnow I just need to get my remote working03:55
gizmobaydid you setup lirc?03:55
d__finnonly as far as picking my remote in the MCC03:56
d__finnand then I manually started it using /etc/init.d/lirc03:56
d__finni'm going to put fresh batteries in just to be sure03:56
gizmobayyou have a lircd.conf file03:57
d__finnwasn't the batteries03:58
d__finnwhere would that conf file be?03:59
d__finnyes, I have one under /etc/03:59
gizmobayyes in etc03:59
d__finni do, it has 2 include lines03:59
d__finninclude "/usr/share/lirc/remotes/hauppauge/lircd.conf.hauppauge"04:00
gizmobayyes that is what you want04:00
gizmobaydid you try irw04:00
d__finnlet me try now, last night I wasn't getting anything04:01
gizmobayls -al /dev | grep lirc04:02

gizmobayhmm should have two04:03
gizmobaywhat's in your /etc/lirc/hardware.conf file?04:05
d__finnone sec, rebooting....04:05
d__finnonce it comes back up I'll try irw also04:05
d__finni'm assuming irw should give me some output when I press buttons on the remote?  I'm getting nothing04:08
gizmobayyeah, you should see output04:09
d__finnwould you like me to pastebin my hardware.conf or where you looking for something specific?04:09
gizmobayyeah pastebin it04:10
d__finnis there a kernel module that should be getting loaded/04:10
d__finn./kernel/ubuntu/lirc/lirc_pvr150/lirc_pvr150.ko ?04:10
gizmobayyeah that's the one04:11

d__finnis there a way to tell myth to only record new episodes of a show?05:49
MythbuntuGuest85hello, need help setting boot vga parameter on 9.04 Jaunty install.05:53
conectateI'm thinking on installing mythtv... what it is better to use mythubuntu or just ubuntu and afterwards all packages from ubuntu07:38
conectatethe idea is that I want my system to run as my server for everything07:38
conectateand at the same time use it for recording and video watching07:38
conectatean the other question: is it safe to use 9.10 alpha?07:39
Gumbyhi all.  running 9.04 and it doesnt seem that nm-applet appears in the xfce top bar.  I've also tried running it manually but it never shows up anywhere.  Does anyone here know why this might be?09:51
Gumbyor is there a more common way to setup wifi in mythbuntu09:52
driftingCould do with some help, re frontends stopped working, all except frontend on server, yet I can telnet to the Mqsql server11:45
directhexokay, i don't know how much this scenario is worth fussing over, but:18:55
directhexif you have mythvideo installed on your frontends, the cron.hourly entry for jamu (which according to the mythtv wiki is for backends only) will die, so you end up with 24 bits of spam per frontend per day.18:57
directhexthe failure is over a lack of config dir19:00
directhexfile, sorry19:00
directhexit looks like jamu uses ~/.mythtv/config.xml OR $MYTHCONFDIR/config.xml to get database parameters19:01
directhexnow, since it runs as the "mythtv" user, that means /home/mythtv/.mythtv/config.xml - but that folder doesn't exist for me, since this is a frontend, not a backend19:01
directhexthere IS an /etc/mythtv/config.xml file, but the MYTHCONFDIR environment variable is not defined in the crontab, so it's not reading that config file either19:02
directhexoh, and for whatever reason, /etc/mythtv/config.xml is wrong and isn't synced to mysql.txt, which i set using m-c-c19:07
rhpot1991directhex: how is it wrong?19:11
directhexrhpot1991, default autogenerated values, localhost and so on, not the values in m-c-c or mysql.txt19:13
rhpot1991directhex: can you open a bug for that?19:16
directhexagainst what?19:16
directhexwhat should be creating that file?19:16
rhpot1991mythtv-common I think, let me check19:16
=== darthanubis is now known as apt-get
rhpot1991directhex: yes, mythtv-common19:18
rhpot1991make 2 bugs if you can, one that the values are wrong19:19
rhpot1991and one that the file doesn't exist in /home/mythtv/.mythtv/19:19
directhexwell, no wonder19:19
directhexthe file is created in the backend init script19:19
directhexand, again, this is a frontend19:20
directhex#create config.xml for bindings19:20
directhexif [ ! -e $USER_HOME/.mythtv/config.xml ]; then19:20
directhex        ln -s /etc/mythtv/config.xml $USER_HOME/.mythtv/config.xml19:20
directhexfi19:20
rhpot1991frontend makes it19:20
rhpot1991when you run it19:20
rhpot1991mythtv-common make the file in /etc/mythtv originally19:20
directhexbut jamu.py runs as the mythtv user, i don't run the frontend as the mythtv user, this is my desktop pc19:20
rhpot1991ya19:20
=== apt-get is now known as darthanubis
rhpot1991so we can just symlink to the /etc/mythtv/config.xml for your mythtv user19:20
directhexwouldn't it make more sense to define MYTHCONFDIR in /etc/cron.hourly/mythvideo ?19:21
rhpot1991you can do that, the symlink should still be made though, you never know what else is gonna run into the same issue19:22
directhexi mean, personally, i think there are other issues like "should jamu really be executed on frontends at all?"19:23
directhexhm, supposedly fixed in bug 43289719:27
ZinnBug 432897 in mythplugins (Ubuntu) "Jamu cron job needs to check for ~/.mythtv/config.xml" [Undecided, Fix Committed] http://www.launchpad.net/bugs/43289719:27
=== darthanubis is now known as apt-get
rhpot1991directhex: ok, at least make a bug for the values not matching up though19:32
rhpot1991I'll check with mario on the ~mythtv issue, I think its good to do just in case19:32
directhexwill do. adding info to this bug though, i think a point has been missed19:32
rhpot1991directhex: feel free, thanks19:33
directhexaha, i understand why config.xml isn't updated19:40
rhpot1991I haven't looked into it yet, but I'm listening :)19:41
directhexconfig.xml is group-writable, so even though it's in /etc, it's my user who writes the file19:42
directhexthe file is written on successful frontend execution19:42
directhexsince my backend hasn't been updated yet, the file is bad19:42
directhexas the frontend won't connect, so won't write the updated file19:42
rhpot1991directhex: the frontend doesn't write to the /etc/mythtv/config.xml though19:43
rhpot1991it writes to ~/.mythtv/config.xml19:43
directhexwhich is a symlink19:43
rhpot1991yes19:43
rhpot1991but IIRC it only makes it if it doesn't exist19:43
rhpot1991I think (I need to check), that when you run MCC it should be re-creating mysql.txt and should recreate /etc/mythtv/config.xml as well19:44
=== apt-get is now known as darthanubis
rhpot1991mythtv-frontend itself normally makes that, we added a check in the backend init script, because you would want that file created if you were running a backend only box19:47
rhpot1991that way your perl bindings, etc can still have access (they look for it, just like jamu does)19:48
directhexconfig.xml is not refreshed at the same time as mysql.conf19:48
directhexmythbuntu-common source package19:48
directhexmysql.txt, sorry19:48
rhpot1991yep, thats the issue then, it should be19:48
rhpot1991directhex: if MCC ever launches over ssh I'll be having a look :)19:56
rhpot1991the code to make config.xml is still there in our .22 release, so it should be working, unless MCC is doing something new/different19:57
=== darthanubis is now known as apt-get
directhexrhpot1991, where is "there"?20:18
rhpot1991directhex: its in mythtv-common.postinst, happens when you install.  I think when you change the password it should dpkg-reconfigure mythtv-common, and the should be updated then.  my ssh -x forwarding isn't playing nice now so I've been unable to check so far20:19
rhpot1991directhex: where in MCC did you change the password?20:54
rhpot1991I don't recall it having that behavior, unless mine is out of date20:55
=== _CShadowRun is now known as CShadowRun
directhexrhpot1991, MySQL tab. the test button reports the connection is fine22:25
directhexrhpot1991, it seems it's not reconfigured, as reconfiguring just fixed it22:28
