cobelloyhi, I am having trouble with 904, was working OK, now it tries to load KDM - screen gets a couple of strips of staticy blah, and freezez dead00:43
cobelloyhave tried replacing xorg.conf, but no luck00:43
cobelloyam here via live disk now00:43
marinerwhat is your video adapter?00:44
cobelloylast thing I did was try to install fglrk module with synaptic package manager - but thats always worked fine before00:44
cobelloyis ATI x1550 series00:44
cobelloyafter install of fglrx - all was OK00:44
cobelloyexcept that ccc claimed that there were no compatible cards00:45
cobelloyso couldnt configure00:45
cobelloythen after next boot, was dead00:45
cobelloysame ting happened with 'crunch bang linux'00:45
cobelloyi believe ATI drivers not compatible with new kernel, but how to go back to before?00:46
cobelloywas having lots of problems with kde4 too00:46
cobelloycrashing etc00:46
cobelloyive never seen it so quiet in here00:47
cobelloyoh - up there fglrk should read fglrx00:48
yang_does anybody use knowledgeroot here?00:48

yang_brb later srry00:48
marinerthen sudo aticonfig --initial00:48
cobelloyyes - did that00:49
cobelloyreports no cards00:49
cobelloysorry - remove xorg?00:49

marineralso check if your video card is supported by latest fglrx driver00:49
cobelloy(missed that line)00:49
cobelloyyes it is00:50
marinermy bad, xorg.conf00:50
cobelloyahh, remove it completely?00:50
Lord_Baubewhat do you mean by remove xorg ? (delete /etc/X11/xorg.conf ?) (I'm also having trouble with my ATI Video adapter and Kubuntun 904)00:50
cobelloybut how do I make system boot to cmd line?00:50
marinerno, just config file00:50
marinerthen run ati config as i described above00:50
cobelloyas in remove it, not just replace it00:51
marineri have radeon hd 347000:51
cobelloyyes, but currently system will not boot - gets to just before KDM then hangs00:51
marinerand with ati9.9 driver i have sometimes troubles00:51
marineraha00:51
marineri know00:51
marinerjust black screen and systems freezes, right?00:51
cobelloypretty much, black screen with a little crap at the top00:52
marinerright, in my case there a bios logos00:52
Lord_BaubeStill have your "safe mode" in Grub, when you boot ?00:52
cobelloyalso - xorg.conf file is very small00:52
Lord_Baube(recovery)00:52
cobelloyi dont know?00:52
marineradd 'single' option to the kernel params and you will boot in save mode00:52
Lord_Baubeyou can have your command line from that boot mode00:52
marinersorry, not in a safe mode, but in recovery00:53
cobelloywhere are kernel params?00:53
marinerin grub menu00:53
marinerpress 'e'00:53
marinerthen add single to the end of params00:53
cobelloyok, I will00:54
marinerone moment00:54
cobelloyanyone else having kde4 dramas?00:54
DarkriftX the oxygen cpu monitor I placed on my taskbar just shows a cpu image. is there something I need to do to get it to show a cpu monitor?00:54
cobelloykde4 seems woefully unstable to me00:54
marinerthen perform all actions i described above (remove xorg.conf and run aticonfig --initial -f)00:54
DarkriftXjust installed last night, seemsto be runningfine to me00:54
DarkriftXslightly slower than 3.500:54
LuisJahello for some reason runescape hd is not working on my firefox: i click the hd button and it does nothing, it stays in SD, i got lastes java installed, can someone help me pls?00:55

cobelloythnx00:55
marineri use kde4 for every day use00:55

cobelloyOK - writing it all down ready to start again, thnx00:56
cobelloycould kde4 be having trouble on a computer thats a few years old now?00:56

cobelloyaaargh - video conf00:59
marinerno i have radeon hd and fglrx00:59
marinerno00:59
cobelloywhat do you call old pc?00:59
cobelloythis is P4 - I think 2g processor, 1.5g ram00:59
marinerif you has wrong .conf then kdm will not start00:59
cobelloyright - but should fall back to cmd line though, right?01:00
marinersempron 2800, ~700mb, geforce 6100 (integratedd)01:00
marinernot every time01:00
marinersometimes it hangs01:00
cobelloyi rebooted it prolly 6 times - same result01:00

marinerand there no any reactions on keyboard01:00

marinerin ubuntu 9.04 it was disabled01:01
cobelloyso how to force switch to terminal?01:02
marinerif kdm hangs?01:02
cobelloyyes01:02
marineri have no idea01:02
marineri always reboot my system01:02
cobelloymaybe not crashed entirely - if ctrl-alt-bkspc not working anywayi01:02
marinerbecause even alt+sysrq+b does not take effect01:03
cobelloythats a key combi I dont know - does it do same as alt-ctrl-bkspc ?01:03
marinerno, it will send a 'reboot' command directly to the kernel01:04
cobelloyoh, well, at least I could see if its properly crashed that way01:04
cobelloyIve just been pressing the pr button to reboot from kdm crash01:04
marineryou'd better to see xorg logs01:05

cobelloyhow can I do that?01:05

cobelloymariner: do you have 904 with latest kernel update too?01:07
cobelloyI have read that kernel in 904 is not yet compatible with ati supplied drivers?01:07
yang_does anybody hear use knowledgeroot?01:07
cobelloyyour driver came from repo's yes?01:08
marinerno, i have 904 with 28.15 kernel01:08
marineri got driver from ati.amd.com01:08
cobelloythat might be the diff between yr system and mine - whats the cmd to get kernel version?01:09

cobelloybefore install fglrx, dont know either01:13
marineron live disk - 'ati' driver01:14
marineropen source01:14
marinerokay01:14
cobelloyso that works - not fabulous tho01:14
marineri took a look to the latest driver spec and seems, than your card is not supported by latest fglrx01:14
cobelloylots of screen artefacts around cursors and windows01:14
cobelloythats on ati site?01:15
marinertry compile radeon driver01:15
marineror replace in in xorg.conf01:15
cobelloythats the funny thing xorg.conf is only a couple of lines?01:15
marinerhttps://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/catalyst_99_linux.pdf01:16
cobelloyno mention of driver at all01:16
marinermy xorg.conf is empty by default01:16
marineri can post here my xorg.conf (which is setted up to work with fglrx)01:16
cobelloyprolly no point - it seems you are right, my card family is not listed in that document01:17
cobelloyits not that old a card, maybe 3-4yrs01:17
cobelloymaybe that counts as pretty old01:17
cobelloyI dont know really01:18
cobelloyno, I will try deleting xorg.conf and boting to recovery and running the dpkg command to configure graphics again01:18

mariner        Driver      "ati"01:25
mariner        BusID       "PCI:2:0:0"01:25

marinerand your card is also supported01:25
marinerbut there is no 3d support01:26
marinerso no kwin 3d effects ;(01:26
marinerthey are very slow01:26
cobelloyI will survive without them, also my Bus ID - wont necessarily be same?01:27
cobelloyor will it?01:27
marineractually, i dont know. but you can find it in lspci | grep ATI output01:27

hyper_chthe only thing I had problems with what kdepim and imap resource and akonadi :)15:03
hyper_chs/what/was15:03
JJman6_yea i had some akondai errors also15:06
JJman6_howw can i fix broken dependancies15:06
JJman6_so they can be reinstalled15:06
JJman6_i know its a dkpg cmd15:06
JJman6_dpkg even15:07
hyper_chthe dependencies should get auto-installed if your run upgrade or dist-upgrade15:07
JJman6_i can't run Kpackage right now cause it says there are broken dependancies15:08
JJman6_shoul di just try to run apt-get upgrade && dist-upgrade again?15:08
hyper_chyeah, run apt-get15:09
hyper_chor rather  sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade15:09
JJman6_whats the diff. between upgrade & dist-upgrade they obviously don't include the same stuff15:09
hyper_chand if that does not help you could try the experimental kde ppa repos15:09
hyper_chnot sure what the exact difference is15:10
JJman6_says i have unmet depend.  so i'mm run the cmd it suggests15:10
hyper_chsudo dpkg-reconfigure -a ?15:11
JJman6_i've done that already.  that didn't help (b4 i added hte dist-upgrade part)15:12
JJman6_i tried the apt-get -f install on the package it said was unmet and its still has errors so i can't install anything now it seems as this is blocking things15:12
hyper_chok, well, if nothing works, try the experimental kde repo then:  http://repogen.simplylinux.ch --> my little tool :)15:12
JJman6_a library for kstars i guess15:12
hyper_chapt does not depend on kstart15:13
JJman6_well thats what its breaking on15:13
JJman6_i had kstars installed so it must have tried to update that also15:13
JJman6_and failed15:13
hyper_chno clue what kstars is :)15:13
JJman6_its a star charting program  ;-)15:14
hyper_ch:)15:14
JJman6_grrr.  i'm using -f and its not fixing things.  apt-get is totally fubar15:14
hyper_chgoogle stellarium=15:14
hyper_ch?15:14
hyper_chI only use apt-get usually15:14
hyper_chhow about removing kstars15:15
JJman6_was thinking that.15:15
hyper_chfinishing the install of kde 4.3.115:15
hyper_chand then try again?15:15
JJman6_whats best way to remove  apt-get remove?15:15
hyper_chapt-get remove kstars15:16
JJman6_its going automagically with the other depencies now that its removed hte kstars  i didn't even do anything else15:17
hyper_ch:)15:17
hyper_chkstars is evil it seems ;)15:18
JJman6_i guess.  it didn't even work properly  so i haven't really used it ;-)15:18
JJman6_it was glitchy just like google maps  8-(  i want google maps to work but it  won't15:18
hyper_chgooglemaps works fine here15:18
JJman6_it flashes constantly so u can hardly see the globe15:18
hyper_chbut the desktop effects might interfere15:18
JJman6_yea i have compiz enabled maybe thats why15:19
hyper_chI found those desktop effects rather fun in the beginning and now I just turn them off15:19
JJman6_ok.  its fully upgraded now.  Think i'll restart and see if things work15:19

RhapsodyI've got a weird problem here. I tried to add an OpenTTD icon to one of my panels (actually two, to confirm the problem) and it's gone wrong. There's a space where two icons should be, but they're totally blank and I can't click on them. I can move them if I unlock widgets, but it seems KDE doesn't quite see them as 'real' icons, so right clicking on them is as if I right-clicked on the bare panel. So how I do remove them?17:06
James147Rhapsody: You could try dragging them onto the desktop17:08
RhapsodyHmm, now Plasma crashed.17:08
RhapsodyOh, and ir put them back on the panel when it restarted.17:09
RhapsodyOK, if I do it one-by-one, it doesn't crash.17:09
RhapsodyI was able to delete them too, they were visible on the desktop.17:09
RhapsodyReadding it to the panel works too. I first added them under KDE 4.2.2, maybe the backported KDE 4.2.4 helped here.17:10

srh156Anyone having Firefox sound issues on jaunty?18:37
* avihayb raises his hand18:37
srh156@avihayb you know how to fix it?18:38
avihaybI wish. my problem that after about 3 hours of sound, it's starts to skip like crazy18:38
avihaybso I restrict using sound with firefox to a minimum18:39
srh156I dont have sound in konquerer either though >.> any web browser really, and i checked the PCM volume, and its all the way up, last night it worked after updates, but then when i rebooted it didnt again18:40
avihayband it works with other applications?18:41
srh156yeah, I always have amarok running. and the sound works fine.18:41
avihaybyou are using pulse audio or alsa?18:42
srh156not sure how to check, But i used alsamixer in the terminal, and it showed my sound levels so I think its alsa18:43
meitneriumyou can look it up in the preferences18:43
meitneriumand multimedia18:43

srh156okay theres 3 there; HDA Intel (alc883 analog); HDA Intel (alc883 digital) and PulseAudio18:44
avihaybpulse audio can discriminate between applications18:45
avihaybis the top one the analog?18:45
srh156Yeah18:45
avihaybpress the test button18:46
srh156-weird music plays as if he logged in-18:46
meitneriumsry can you repeat your problem please? I guess you don't have sound with other applications than amarok?18:46
srh156Im running kopete and theres sounds there that plays, its only internet apps that cause the problem (of no sound)18:47
avihaybso, it seems like you don't get sound only from a web browser. might be the flash plugin18:47
meitneriumyes i guess that, too do you use firefox?18:48
meitneriummaybe you should install the firefox flash plugin18:48
srh156well i've tried reinstalling it, didnt work. (last night after the updates it started to work) and neither konquerer Or Firefox works.18:48
srh156after i rebooted it it stopped again.18:48
srh156eh, that was poorly explained. Last Night after updates, The sound worked until a reboot, then which a message said it was Falling Back to a different driver. Neither konq. or firefox's sound works, and i've tried reinstalling firefox.18:51
avihaybmaybe changing between the free-opensource and nonfree-closedsource versions?18:51
avihaybof the flash plugin18:52
srh156I got the plugin from adobe.com so im not sure how to distict between them. (afk-2mins)18:52
avihaybthe adobe one is the non-free18:55
avihaybit works well for me18:55
