jblackhallseems to me like an important (but very obvious) regression since Jaunty, so I'm assuming they know it's there and it's either 1. on purpose and it won't be fixed or 2. it's already planned to be fixed00:01

dholbachMez: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Events - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/5-A-Day13:41
Mezdholbach: I've read, no idea how to create a tag though.14:13
dholbachMez: add your team to the list14:14
dholbachyou see the table14:14
dholbachuse that :)14:14
dholbachask participants to also join https://launchpad.net/~5-a-day-participants/+join14:14
dholbachchoose a tag14:15
Mezoh, so the tag doesnt need to be configured anywhere14:18
Mezcool14:18
dholbachMez: where could the documentation be clearer?14:19
Mezdholbach: I'm thinking "Ok, I need to create a tag for this" ... and then thinking "ok, so how do I do that"14:21
Mezneeds to explain what the tag is in more detail maybe14:21
MezAlso, an interesting thing that's just been asked.14:21
MezWhat is "gravity"? (related to bugs)14:21
dholbachdunno14:22
dholbachmaybe people who said "affects me too"?14:22
Mez420 for a bug that was reported yesterday?14:22
MezI thought that myself, but I don't know14:22
dholbachbest to ask bdmurray when he turns up14:23
dholbachI just added a line about the tag14:23
thekornthere is a box at http://qa.ubuntu.com/reports/bugnumbers/yesterday.html which explains how gravity is calculated14:24

thatscotenghi folks,14:30
thatscotengI am wanting to report a problem with the installer system but not sure of the pakage14:31
thatscotengI had selected dvorak keyboard during the install of karmic beta, but this has been ignored and I have been given the default keyboard14:32
dholbachthatscoteng: try asking cjwatson or evand in #ubuntu-devel14:32
dholbachIIRC they were discussing something like that a bit earlier on14:33
thatscotengthanks14:35
imihello14:43
imiI am about to report a bug: if I translate it back from hungarian correctly in the places->recently used documents menu when you open a document by clickin it there, no matter how regularly do that, that document will swap out of the list. so somehow using a recent document from that place, doesn't counts toward recent usage14:46
imiand I don't know which package to report as containing this bug14:46

douwe_Hi, I'm trying out the karmic beta right now and was wondering if anything is known about problems with the sis191 wired lan driver. It connects fine, but quality is erratic and anything more than a webpage consisting of text makes it incredibly slow. I don't have this problem on windows15:52

Franoculatorhow can I get more details to include in a bug report?  or is that the best I can offer?17:46
olmarimaco:  here I am17:48
macoolmari: ok, so check out http://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bugs and search a bit to see if a bug fitting your issue has been reported17:49
macoolmari: also, is this karmic or jaunty?17:51
marco_hi17:52
marco_can i report 2 bug? :o17:52
macomarco_: just run "ubuntu-bug <packagename>" like "ubuntu-bug firefox-3.5" or what have you17:53
macoitll walk you through17:53
marco_help me just to understand the package :P17:54
marco_it's plasma related i thing17:55
olmarimaco:  karmic, and at quick look, couldn't see that this exact same symptom, yet more or less similar slash propably related17:55
marco_when i turn on composition and changed some effect17:55
macoolmari: ok well id guess the problem is devicekit, so "ubuntu-bug devicekit" and state your problem and also say "may be related to bugs... " and list eh numbers17:55
marco_the font configuration changed17:55
marco_i really liked the customization at beginning17:56
macodid you change your plasma theme?17:56
marco_no17:56
marco_just activated composition17:57
marco_the font size SHOULD be the same17:57
marco_at least in system settings is the same17:57
macook17:57
marco_but it's very smaller17:57
macohrm sebas would know this17:57
marco_and if i press "defaults" it changes to KDE defaults17:58
marco_not Kubuntu defaults17:58
marco_u understand?17:58
marco_sry mt english :S17:58
marco_my*17:58
macoyeah17:58
marco_then17:58
marco_what i should write and where? :P17:59
marco_ah17:59
marco_and another thing17:59
marco_but i think u noticed that18:00
marco_kpackagekit doesn't ask for root pswd18:00
macoits supposed to ask for your pw, not root18:02
macoroot has no pw in ubuntu18:03
macobut i think it uses policykit and doesnt actually try to ask until you try to do something18:03
macojust browsing package lists doesnt require it18:03
marco_in any case18:03
marco_it doesn't work :P18:03
marco_even if i run "sudo kpackagekit" from terminal18:04
marco_ah18:04
marco_i forgot to say18:04
olmarimaco: thanks :)18:04
marco_i'm talking about 9.10 beta18:04
macomarco_: so am i18:06
macomarco_: and iirc, *no* policykit based apps work if you run them with sudo. unless that bug has been fixed. which i dont recall seeing email about18:07
macoit should prompt for your pw after you tell it to do something though18:07
macounless youre still within the sudo timeout18:07

hggdhtormod, can you give us a bug # as an example?22:58
tormodhggdh, look up his lp page -> bugs, sort on most recently changed23:01
tormodI filed the launchpad Question23:02
hggdhtormod, ~david on LP gives 'David Allouche'23:02
tormodno, "david" is his full name23:03
tormoddavidelizondo200623:03
hggdhnow that is better23:03
tormodhttps://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/~davidelizondo200623:03
tormodsorry I was so slow, I had closed all this pages23:04
hggdhtormod, np.23:05
hggdhtormod: one more option is to get to #launchpad and ask for a faster turnaround on blocking this person23:06
tormodhggdh, I already asked in #launchpad23:07
hggdhand they told you to open a question?23:07
tormodit's quiet in there :)23:07
hggdhwell, at least it is restricted to 30 bugs so far...23:08
hggdhtormod, do you have the question url?23:08
tormodhttps://answers.edge.launchpad.net/launchpad/+question/8456523:09
hggdhI reforced your call for action on #lp ;-)23:10
bdmurrayI'm on it23:10
BUGabundohggdh: I was the one who told him to open a Question23:12
hggdhBUGabundo: ah, OK, not reading the backlog does complicate the understanding23:13
BUGabundoeheh23:13
BUGabundonp23:13
hggdhwell, anyway, off for dinner23:14
hggdhbrb23:14
tormodafter publishing a branch with a fix, should I set the bug to New, Unassigned?23:14
hggdhtormod: you should ask for a merge23:15
tormodand the bug status?23:15
hggdhhum. Confirmed, or triaged. Not sure, though23:15
hggdhbut certainly unassigned23:15
tormodwell I can not set triaged anyway :)23:15
hggdhheh23:16
tormodI assigned to myself when working on it23:16
hggdhthat's correct procedure, since you were working on the patch/fix23:16
tormodbut I have done my part, so unassigning makes sense23:16
tormodI wonder more about the "in progress"23:17
hggdhbut now that your work is done, one of the -sponsors team will have to look at it.23:17
hggdhno, it is not in progress anymore. It would have been while you were working on it23:17
dtchencd23:17
dtchen(err, sorry)23:17
hggdha bug is "in progress" if someone is actively working on fixing it (and, very rarely, on triaging it)23:18
tormodso it's New,Unassigned again then, like as if it was never touched23:18
bdmurraywell, if the fix needs to be sponsored it could still be considered in progress23:18
tormodwell seems like this is not really clear :)23:19
hggdhbut we would now be waiting on a -sponsors to look at it -- how could it be in progress?23:19
tormodthe bug as a whole is in progress... but between hands23:19
BUGabundodtchen: LOL23:19
tormodif I upload it to a PPA, I can put Fix Committed according to some rules I heard before23:20
hggdhalthough a technicality: if "in progress", then someone should be assigned to it23:20
tormodwell never mind, I hope the merge request is what matters23:20
hggdhwe really have to revisit these stati...23:20
hggdhtormod, uploading to a PPA may, or may not, be enough. If it is an "official" PPA (which is sort of an oximoron), then yes.23:21
tormodit's just that the bug now appears in listings as just another untouched, unseen bug23:22
hggdhyes, this is why I considered "Confirmed"23:22
dtchen(yes, sort of. for instance, the ubuntu-audio-dev PPA is an official one.)23:22
tormodbut I can not confirm my own bugs ;) rule #123:22
tormodis there a special team reviewing merges and debdiffs this weekend?23:23
matti;]23:23
hggdhdtchen: yes, I understand that. The problem is we are not clear enough on the status rules23:24
dtchenhggdh: right, and there's much inconsistency23:25
tormodnow the merge has Reviewer: Ubuntu branches and only james-w is subscribed23:26
tormodpoor man he's gotta be busy23:27
tormodshould I just change the reviewer myself, to cjwatson which probably is the man23:28
tormodthere should be a bug status "in review" or "patch-available" or something23:32
