cliffhanger | hello everyone I've been trying to get sound working on edubuntu thin clients with flash for 3 weeks now | 19:44 |
cliffhanger | sound will work for a minute or two then suddenly stop on the thin client | 19:44 |
cliffhanger | I have searched google a ton, even ran firefox as a local application, and sound just stops after a minute or two (after rebooting the thin client) sound will work again (but only for a minute or two when watching a flash video). has anyone experienced this? | 19:45 |
dgroos | cliffhanger: I've also got problems with sound on my thin clients--not sure if it's related, though. | 20:24 |
dgroos | Sound sometimes works, sometimes it gets disabled. Sometimes it starts out disabled. | 20:25 |
dgroos | When the famous 'edubuntu' welcome sound plays during login, it sounds like there's lots of static or some kinds of popping. | 20:26 |
dgroos | I've tried to change the sound setting some but it didn't improve the condition. Wish I had more to offer, nonetheless, I wanted to corroborate your issues with thin clients and sound. | 20:27 |
alkisg | dgroos: a quick answer for your mail: when you clone a linux pc, the ethX names change (e.g. eth2/eth3) and you need to update your files with the new names. A way around this is to delete this file and reboot: /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules | 21:16 |
alkisg | This way the names will become eth0/eth1 again. | 21:16 |
dgroos | alkisg: Thanks! I'll give that a go when I get to school on Monday. I'll post the results on the mail post. What a slick solution. I assume before I do this I need re-define things on /etc/network/interfaces. | 21:22 |
cliffhanger | does anyone know why sound in mozilla firefox flash videos stops after playing for a minute on a thin client? | 23:08 |
Tare1off | when i installed buntu, it was my intention to completely wipe out w98. how can i tell for sure w98 is gone? | 23:25 |
cliffhanger | if you partitioned the entire drive and formatted it, windows 98 would be gone | 23:27 |
Tare1off | thats was concerns me...the fact that i know nothing about that. ihad 2 computers on during the install: 1. was my wifes lapper 2. the dell that the buntu was going into....i used the lapeer to communicate on chat on here while i did the install and whoever was so kind to help knew i wanted a clean wipe install but the whole thing seemed pretty simple as it went in so i dont know for sure if w98 is gone | 23:30 |
Tare1off | i noticed buntu lies in ext3... idid see that one day | 23:32 |
Tare1off | if i left w98 in my computer during the buntu install, wouldnt i see something about it when i turn on the computer everyday, while it is running thru tha black and whire printed screens on the way to ubuntu? | 23:36 |
Tare1off | whire=white* | 23:37 |
