nnonixI filed a bug using 'ubuntu-bug gnome-bluetooth' and it attached the files Dependencies.txt & XsessionErrors.txt. Shouldn't this have included some attachments that include hardware information?00:32
hggdhnnonix: at least bluetooth data, yes00:42
cdr700Does anyone know how to change panel font colours in karmic?00:48
nnonixhggdh: which command output do you suggest I attach?00:48
hggdhnnonix: I am not sure, never used bluetooth. But, I guess, dmesg would help00:54

lxowleI want to submit a bug about my cd/dvd drive not being able to recognise any media. Can some one tell me what package name that should be with? Thanks.02:16
jmarsdenlxowle: That sounds like a hardware issue, file a support request with the drive manufacturer, or just buy a new DVD burner??  What makes you believe this is a Ubuntu bug?02:18
lxowleI used the drive to burn the install disk under 9.04, and then install ubuntu 9.10 beta.02:19
bdmurray_use linux as the package02:20
=== bdmurray_ is now known as bdmurray
lxowleok, thanks.02:21
hggdhdtchen: for what is worth -- it seems all my problems with PA vanished after a full reinstall of Karmic, with all gconf settings starting from scratch03:41
dtchenbdmurray: that dvd non-recognition is likely a dupe of 43806504:57
dtchenhggdh: yeah, gconf is a known-bear04:57
hggdhdtchen: I wonder how much of problems on upgrade come from stale settings (everywhere)04:58
dtchenhggdh: many more than i'd like04:59
omegamormegilI just installed the Karmic UNR beta and I get stuck in an endless reboot loop when the computer tries to boot.  I didn't see a bug report.  Anybody else hear of this problem?05:39
omegamormegilAll I get is the initial "Loading Grub" message and it immediately reboots.  Over and over.05:41

cwilluI'll be back in a moment (need to reboot before ubuntu-bug will do anything), but can somebody confirm that alt-middle click is bound to "raise/lower window" by default, in conflict with alt-middleclick window resizing?09:45
cwillu_cloneso having said that and rebooted... :p09:50
cwillu_cloneugh, holding down shift doesn't work on this system, but grub2 still doesn't give me any time to hit escape09:56
gp_will_be_backis net conections manger fixed in karmic koala10:03
gp_will_be_backas per gnome bug page it works on gnome but due some custom patch by ununtu not working in ubuntu10:03
jarnos What is the best way to report a bug, if suspend to RAM does not work?12:47
yofeljarnos: define doesn't work a bit better, doesn't do anything or crashes?12:59
jarnosIt displays some Intel text in console that is replaced by the desktop environment and does not continue.13:02
jarnosyofel, I can't resume from that point.13:03
yofelhm, not sure in that case, anybody else?13:05
jarnosyofel, Oh, sorry, I meant the normal desktop environment is replaced by console with the text.13:12
yofeljarnos: do you have access to a tty?13:13
yofelwell, if yes, check in /var/log/Xorg.0.log if X crashed, or maybe you can check Xorg.0.log.old now13:16
jarnosyofel, no I don't.13:18
Capsaicinhey guys13:23
CapsaicinI need help with reporting a bug13:23
Capsaicinbecause I dont know which package is the problem13:24
Capsaicinis anyone alive?13:24
yofeljarnos: well, best you wait for somebody else then, I don't know very much about suspend issues13:24
yofelCapsaicin: what's the bug?13:24
Capsaicinmy wireless connection keeps dropping sometimes, disconnecting and reconnecting13:25
yofelwhat driver do you use?13:25
Capsaicinwell, im a linux newbie so I dont really know....13:26
Capsaicini use karmic koala beta on a msi wind U100 netbook13:27
yofelCapsaicin: what wireless card do you have? (run lspci in a terminal)13:27
CapsaicinRaLink RT286013:27
yofelhurray, same as me... same crappy driver...13:28
Capsaicindo u experience the same problem?13:28
yofelif I'm far away enough from the AP then yes13:28
Capsaicinok13:28
Capsaicinbut i dont have any problems with windows....13:29
yofelCapsaicin: I know, the driver isn't really in a good state, that's why it's in the staging section of the kernel13:32
Capsaicinok, so its not a problem with ubuntu?13:32
yofelCapsaicin: no, if you want, you could try to report a bug at kernel.org, but i'm not sure if this driver is even supported13:32
Capsaicinok, so what does it mean that its in the staging section?13:36
yofelCapsaicin: that the kernel developers don't think the driver is good enough to be officially included but the leave it in staging for testing purposes13:37
yofelI looked at the driver myself once, but I really don't know enough about hardware programming to mess with it and there doesn't seem to be anybody to do that13:38
Capsaicinok, thanx man13:42
yofelCapsaicin: actually here's the TODO from the driver source, that's about the most information you can get: http://yofel.pastebin.com/f385fba5413:48

wlnhi, yofel!  I'm testing Karmic beta right now and it looks very slick, but I'm having problems with flash on firefox.  the system says flashplugin-nonfree is already installed, but Firefox won't run flash content.  if I try to install a .deb from the adobe website I get the following error: "dpkg: unable to read filedescriptor flags for <package status and progress file descriptor>: Bad file descriptor".  any help?14:44
yofelwln: the file descriptor error is supposed to be fixed, do you have all updates? And for karmic related support please come over to #ubuntu+114:47
wlnoh, I see.  I'm updating it right now and, if I have any problems, I'll join #ubuntu+1.  thanks!14:54

springmeyertrying to install Karmic Beta within Virtual Box from .iso fetched from here: http://mirrors.cat.pdx.edu/ubuntu-releases/9.10/ubuntu-9.10-beta-alternate-i386.iso16:29
springmeyerduring installation I hit a red screen that says:16:29
springmeyer"An installation step failed... failing step is: Select and install software"16:30
springmeyeranything I can/should do to help provide a bug report?16:30
CarlFKspringmeyer: alt-f416:35

springmeyerCarlFK: okay, i hit the same place again17:04
CarlFKspringmeyer: alt-f417:04
springmeyerI have hit alt-f4, it takes me to terminal17:04
springmeyer"please press enter to activate this console..."17:04
springmeyer"BusyBox v1.13.3...."17:05
CarlFKhuh - I was expecting message log17:05
springmeyerhmm, okay17:05
CarlFKno matter - the log is in /var/log/messages17:05
springmeyerI'm running virtual box on a mac, so I may have messed up keys...17:05
springmeyerokay17:05
CarlFKyou have a few commands at your disposal - tail and more17:06
springmeyeryes, okay...17:06
CarlFKlook in the log for something error like17:06
springmeyeronly "partman" and "syslog" in /var/log17:06

springmeyertail on syslog gives: "no space left on device"17:07
springmeyerso, must be a problem with Virtualbox allocating space to the machine...17:07
CarlFKdon't you need to setup a size?17:08
springmeyerwell, I just took the default of a couple GB17:09
CarlFKfor a desktop install you need 3.517:09
springmeyerand I thought it was "expanding", but I'll go back and try again17:09
springmeyerah, silly me, thanks17:10
springmeyersorry for the bother - great to learn how to get into terminal mode though, thanks17:10
CarlFKyou might want to report a bug that the message isn't very useful17:10
CarlFKalt-f2 alt-f3 are what should get you terms17:10
springmeyerokay17:10
CarlFK1 is the installer (dialogs, progress) and 4 is the log display17:11
springmeyergreat,okay17:12
springmeyerhmm, ya the default MAX size that virtual box has is 2GB. annoying for either new users or non-attentive users(like me)17:15
