[00:37] might want to keep an eye out for zakaria in #ubuntu [00:37] I could just be over-intepreting here. [00:37] nevermind, gone. [00:37] * MenZa grumbles, goes to get food. [02:00] hello... [02:00] and before we go kick crazy, please... let me speak to you all [02:01] if anyones got time, that is [02:07] thewizord: Hello. How can I help? [02:07] MenZa: I'm here to discuss the issue with you folk that led to my kline and further alienation between archlinux and ubuntu communities. I'd like to stomp out some flames that are romurs, clarify some details, and help you folk further understand some of the actions between community members. [02:08] Sounds like you might want to go higher than me, then. [02:08] MenZa: there is a good dose misinformation trading hands left and right between either side of this ongoing argument. [02:08] One moment please. [02:08] sebsebseb called the ops in #ubuntu (Merc being silly in the channel) [02:11] thewizord: You may continue - I appear to be the only person around, but the channel is logged. [02:12] thewizord: as menza says, say what you came to say [02:12] MenZa: let us reflect originally to ikonia's incorrect assumption that i work alongside Fogobogo and Bruenig in an attempt to "orchestrate" trolling [02:12] this usually isn't what happens, neither is there a ring leader... And let me say, if any of you ever spend a moment getting to know bruenig, you'll fast learn no one mkes this creature do anything... it acts on it's own will and whim. [02:12] But now back to the incident that happened to me... I know a lot of you, longstanding from when I was an ubuntu member myself [02:13] nalioth: you know me... Dj_Mer_, #kubuntu-offtopic, long ago with korky kathman. [02:13] when I parted ways with ubuntu it was neither bitter nor on a sour note, but I went away for a long time... And I didn't come back until recently to say hi to some familiar faces, especially some old buddies in ubuntuforums [02:14] this is where the problem started, and I'd love to provide to you the following logs: http://pastebay.com/59021 [02:14] I felt that the conduct performed by this Op was out of line, and when I returned to #archlinux-offtopic and shared the story... They felt pretty similar, and they are very much self-enabled trolls when they wish to be, they went back and simply repeated my statement after the rather (unethical) kickban. [02:15] Theres no underlying conspiracy to why archers dislike ubuntu, some do some don't... Theres no ring leaders in this organization and there is no troll army waiting to brew itself up and launch an attack. A lot of the times, old ubuntu users go to their old homes and offer advice where they are met with a younger, less educated op who bans them for trolling. This leads to hostility and subsequently, [02:15] other people trying to prove a point. [02:16] and yes, I am aware there are a few who literally just troll. That's their imaturity and none of us condone that behavior in the slightest way. [02:17] my ban came subsquent an op calling me "either a troll or just a pure idiot." which I think reflects very POORLY on this individuals administrative abilities [02:17] a lot of other people said the same thing, which lead to tomaw klining me. Hey, whatever, I was only gone a few minutes. But the point at hand was how far one immature persons behavior made something go. [02:20] it's just a notion to relish over if anyones got time... But jsut because we're arch users doesn't exactly mean we're *bad* or that we mean ubuntu is *bad*. I'd say by a large majority many of us started there, but we were quickly alienated after we parted there. And I guess thats all I've come to say. I won't apologize for my behavior, my behavior was a direct link to what one very unintelligent [02:20] child did. I just wish that the two communities could co-exist without so much hostility being displayed. [02:20] thank you for your time. [03:37] sebsebseb called the ops in #ubuntu (bruenig trolling) [03:39] Is anyone going to remove bruenig? [03:39] reading to see what he actually said first [03:40] Ah [03:40] And, according to what I can read above, I can see this as being a trend of his. [07:18] rsk called the ops in #ubuntu (josemiguel) [07:19] josemiguel called the ops in #ubuntu () [07:20] I've poked rsk and let him know not to be too trigger happy with ops [07:21] Apparently he thought he was advertising one of those referral links [07:21] I've let him know it's just an image hosting service. [07:21] yeah, link seems harmless [07:22] Certainly is. [07:22] I use tinypic myself. [07:22] I still brace for impact when I follow that sort of link, though :) [07:22] Heh. [07:22] brace for goatse, more like [07:22] I was pretty much ready for hello.jpg, but I did feel it was my responsibility to actually check it :p [07:23] (Not that I would have particularly cared personally - I have become desensitised to pretty much everything) [07:23] likewise. the things we volunteer for... :) [07:23] hehehe [07:24] oooo! "desensitized to just about everything," eh? that sounds like a challenge. [07:25] mneptok: try me. [07:25] oh Great Cthulhu, no [07:25] * Madpilot hides [07:25] Wait, I know what you're going to link. [07:25] NO, NO [07:25] DON'T DO IT [07:25] I HAD FORGOTTEN ABOUT THAT PICTURE [07:25] * MenZa cries. [07:25] the one on uncyclopedia's Ubuntu page? [07:26] I don't want to know [07:26] No, I distinctly remember !mneptok [07:26] Which was bad [07:26] baaaad [07:26] MenZa: http://mneptok.com/disturbing [07:26] Oh dear god. [07:26] that is the one, Madpilot [07:26] * MenZa cries. [07:26] http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/File:Mnepolo.png [07:27] I *just* looked it up. [07:27] meh. perms [07:27] happily, I get 403s on all of those [07:27] just the titles are bad enough [07:27] * MenZa still thinks !mneptok-#ubuntu-offtopic should point to that image. [07:27] didn't it used to? when the bot was more interesting? [07:27] It did. [07:27] !-mneptok [07:27] Sorry, I don't know anything about mneptok [07:27] :( [07:28] mneptok: really, that disturbing link should be posted here. public channel and all... [07:28] jussi01: rm will heal all log disasters [07:28] * mneptok gives MenZa another 30 seconds, and then rm [07:29] suddenly I think I approve of log-altering censorship [07:29] I DON'T NEED 30 SECONDS [07:29] * MenZa cries. [07:30] MenZa: but isn;t it nice t know you're not totally desensitized? [07:30] * jussi01 censors mneptok [07:32] mneptok: There are things. [07:32] Like that image. [07:33] But that's not in the same category. [07:33] * Madpilot wonders (not for the first time) how many Ubuntu Members have contributed to that Uncyclopedia article over the years [07:34] MenZa: that article is only made of quotes from #ubuntu, didnt you know? [07:35] Common knowledge, jussi01 [07:44] Madpilot: #inkscape is an evil place. :( [07:44] it's a channel with an odd sense of humour [07:44] so I've noticed [07:44] and a great love of excessive numbers of exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [07:44] yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111onecos(x) [07:45] Ubuntu's default PDF viewer has known issues with transparencies, btw [07:45] install Adobe Reader, bloated pig that it is, for gradients and transparencies [07:46] Scribus & Inkscape both use Acroread as their reference PDF reader/renderer [07:54] crap, I am an idiot [07:54] * elky bites her lip./ [07:54] Madpilot: state the bleeding obvious :P [07:54] * jussi01 hugs Madpilot [07:54] HE SAID IT! [07:54] I appear to have started a troll rolling. Sorry. [07:55] topyli: dammit, :P [07:55] gah. One ill-timed joke to a regular and jimmy jumped on it. [07:56] jussi01, very sorry. what am i apologising for? :) [07:57] * MenZa licks topyli [07:57] <3 [07:57] the bot has a gender? [07:57] !gender | Madpilot [07:57] Madpilot: yes, I can confirm I am a female bot :) [07:58] well, there you go [07:58] !botsnack [07:58] Yum! Err, I mean, APT! [07:58] * MenZa is having some fun in Inkscape. [07:59] Inkscape rocks. My favourite app, bar none. [07:59] Madpilot: Most definitely agreed. [07:59] nope, that goes to quassel for me :) [08:00] Madpilot: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/333917/windows_desktops_tango.png [08:01] To be used with a networking diagram. [08:01] I think I'll go for the latter. [08:01] the BSOD computer is for a network connection to an MS box, I take it? [08:01] i just learned the other day that OSX's default icon for a windows server is bsod'ed [08:02] if you guys want some icon designing work, naked computers needs a new logo... and alanbell is after someone to do it for him. [08:02] Naked Computers? o_o [08:02] they do need a new logo [08:02] Madpilot: Well durrr. [08:02] that sounds almost o4o :) [08:02] Madpilot: it isnt, go have a browse and youll see what its about [08:02] Also, my previous-offence-somethingsomething-sense is tingling in -ot [08:02] Peddy ftr [08:02] It seems familiar [08:03] unfortunately their logo is a bit... err... unfortunate... [08:03] Unfortunately, I am not very good with logos. [08:04] Peddy arrived just before jimmy earned his timeout [08:04] I've done a few logos, they're fun when they work out [08:06] "press ctl-alt-dangling_buttocks to get a command prompt" [08:06] * MenZa giggles. [08:07] Also, Peddy is trolling horribly. D: [08:07] "what is this i don't even" is a 4chan meme, for the ones who didn't pick that up [08:08] is "wobsite" a 4chan-ism too? [08:08] jussi01: Mind you, if you hadn't already spoken, I would've banned him. [08:08] MenZa, i've explained the issues with the name and logo in detail with the person who runs that site, and they decided that they'd pretend to care, then pretended i never said anything and ramped up the usage and dispersion of the branding :( [08:08] ;o [08:09] that's a nice logo ..... FOR ME TO POOP ON! [08:10] [08:10] :p [08:10] I honestly do not understand why anyone would even name a company "Naked Computers" [08:10] elky: I recently had a discussion. he has no problem with the name (and for the record, nor do I), but the the logo is bad, really bad. and he is looking to get a new one [08:11] jussi01, you have a privilege in not finding the name confronting. for me, the word "naked" and "computers" is a confronting combination. [08:11] right, brute-force topic change in -ot appears to have caused the troll to get instantly bored. [08:11] Madpilot: Woohoo. [08:11] I'm still *convinced* he was banned from #ubuntu at one point. [08:11] Recently. [08:11] (I've been on IRC far too much recently) [08:11] bored is good as long as it stops the trolling [08:11] indeed! [08:12] bored and left, even better [08:12] it doesn't help that there's a broadband company around here that advertises it's "naked broadband" with an extra-thick helping of entendres that are really really really creepy [08:13] the internet is creepy enough without advertisers helping [08:13] yeah, exactly [08:14] * MenZa is now grepping through god-knows-how-many-hundred-thousand-lines for 'Peddy' [08:14] I'm compulsive about these things. [08:15] WHY DEAR GOD DID I NOT JUST TAIL [08:15] * jussi01 searches the bt for MenZa [08:15] :p [08:15] MenZa: btw, until you are accepted into the IRC team, you will not have bt access. [08:15] * MenZa nods [08:16] someone ask the Naked Computers people how long they think it will be until a less-than-satisfied person creates this - http://mneptok.com/naked_computers.png [08:16] mneptok: !!!! [08:16] oh lawd [08:16] MenZa: he had an ubuntu ban from the fb for flodding. [08:16] well ... that logo is just *asking* for it. [08:18] * MenZa coughs. [08:18] Teehee. Now I'm looking at the 3 key on my numpad sideways. [08:18] Free advertising! [08:19] MenZa, can't help it (wrt #inkscape) :) [08:19] :p [08:20] * MenZa ponders the possibility to change name on Launchpad. [08:20] I've slowly started going into that phase where I'm moving from being 'menza' to 'lhavelund' [08:22] I feel all serious, and stuff. [08:25] MenZa: hehe [08:25] didn't we have a parrot-bot in #u a few nights ago? [08:25] because I just removed another one [08:25] I'm just fairly tentative about changing my nick on IRC because a) I'm in so many channels, and it'd just be massively confusing. and b) ... well, that's it, really. [08:25] Madpilot: Polly wants a cracker. Squawk! [08:26] @lart MenZa [08:26] * ubottu reads Madpilot some vogon poetry [08:26] * ubottu makes Jack Bauer chase Madpilot [08:26] haha [08:26] ;o [08:26] Doublepwnlarted! [08:26] meh. forget the botsnacks, you ungrateful overgrown script... [08:28] * jussi01 makes ubottu ignore Madpilot [08:29] :P [08:30] @@admin ignore add Madpilot [08:30] :P [08:30] o rly? [08:31] rly. [08:31] rly rly [08:31] I'm going to be completely useless in #ubuntu now, you know. Completely. [08:31] rofl [08:31] I have a theory that Madpilot is actually a fork of ubottu gone wild. [08:31] * topyli barely manages to decline to comment [08:31] topyli: bahahaha. [08:31] topyli: fail. [08:34] !botsnack [08:34] Yum! Err, I mean, APT! [08:34] admin ignore fail. easily bribable bot. [08:36] Madpilot: I didnt do it... notice the double @ [08:36] i'll stick with my 'easily bribable bot' theory. it's more amusing. :) === KB1JWQ is now known as PancakeStaffer [08:37] jussi01, the key to roleplaying is staying in character :P [08:43] * MenZa considers sleep.
