MythbuntuGuest02#mythtv00:24
=== orificium_ is now known as orificium
hipitihopwhen running mythfilldatabase via an ssh session, do I need to run as root i.e. 'sudo mythfilldatabase' ?00:37
orificiumhipitihop: it runs without sudo fine from my ssh session.00:44
lensuperm1, removing the .cache and .config directories fixed the xfce problem.00:57
Cyber-Doggdoes mythbuntu do anything for ntp out of the box"00:59
hipitihoporificium: thanks and your ssh session is the user used during mythbuntu install ?01:10
mrandcyber-dogg: yes, I believe so.01:13
hipitihopwhen I run mythfilldatabse it reports "XMLTVConfig entry in settings table missing, falling back to old behavior" is this normal or a sign of something not configured correctly ?01:17
rwlove_can anyone tell me exactly how to switch from xfce4 to the gnome desktop?02:09
rwlove_I've installed gnome, but I can't figure out how to switch it02:09
tgm4883rwlove_, at the login screen, you can select your session02:11
tgm4883select gnome02:11
rwlove_hmm... I didn't notice it actually02:12
rwlove_I'll check again02:12
rwlove_I'm running 9.10 beta02:12
rwlove_so there could be a bug or something as well... I've ran into quite a few02:12
tgm4883rwlove_, did you file bugs on launchpad?02:13
tgm4883I also find it a little funny that you assume it's a bu02:14
tgm4883g02:14
rwlove_it is funny I agree02:15
rwlove_it's most likely user error02:15
tgm4883rwlove_, just for fun, I logged out of my frontend02:16
abarbacciahey - im having a little trouble compiling v4l-dvb on karmic. says it cannot find dma.h and no kernel sources installed but i believe my build environment is setup correctly. can someone help me by testing on their machine02:16
tgm4883it's there on the login screen on the bottom after you select your username02:16
squidlyok this is odd02:17
squidlymythbuntu repo's using trunk, updated today and I get a couple a version mismatch between the frontend and the backend02:17
squidlyok never mind the update did not restart my backend02:21
abarbacciasquidly: that's happened to me before. doh!02:21
squidlyyea.. it's annoy8ing the script wont stop/start it properly02:21
abarbacciasquidly: which script?02:22
squidlythe init script02:22
abarbacciait doesn't work?02:22
squidlyI just did a /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend stop and it did not stop it02:22
abarbacciahow did you start the backend?02:23
squidlyabarbaccia: the same way02:23
abarbacciahmm. interesting. mine works...02:24
ctpatersonCan anyone tell me how/if I can configure the liveTV timeout to wait longer?  I'm getting a lot of liveTV crashes when switching it on, changing channels, or program rollovers.02:27
tgm4883squidly, are you using karmic?02:27
squidlytgm4883: neg02:27
tgm4883ok02:27
squidly9.0402:27
rwlove_tgm4883: got logged into gnome02:28
mrandtgm4883: I am.  Noticed the same thing about the backend this morning after updating02:28
rwlove_unfortunately didn't fix my problem02:28
squidlymrand: that is has happened serveral times before02:28
tgm4883mrand, you can't restart your backend either?02:28
squidlyI can start it02:28
squidlybut the restart does not restart it02:28
tgm4883ctpaterson, livetv timeout?02:29
mrandOh, sorry, I meant that after the upgrade was complete, the backend was still the wrong version, which means it was never shut down.02:29
tgm4883it's configurable in the frontend in 0.22, in 0.21 you have to configure it via manual db editin02:29
ctpatersontgm4883: I'm asking if there is such a thing that is configurable...don't know how else to deal with the liveTV crashes.02:29
tgm4883but I don't think that is what you are really asking about02:30
ctpatersontgm4883: I can run a query comfortably, if that's the only way.02:30
tgm4883ctpaterson, sounds like it's taking too long to tune the channel?02:30
mrandtgm4883: I didn't try to restart it manually.  I was in a hurry, so I rebooted since it had done a kernel update.02:31
ctpatersontgm4883: Could be...my recordings always look fine - in that they start when they should, and they never fail to record...I also get no problem playing back recordings.  Watching live TV itself, though, is an unpredictable effort.02:31
tgm4883just FYI, when you say live tv timeout, there is actually a feature called that where if you are watching live tv and you don't press a button for X minutes it returns to the menu02:31
ctpatersontgm4883: Yeah, that's what kept coming up in my google searching.  ;>  Don't need that.02:31
tgm4883ctpaterson, tuner?02:32
ctpatersontgm4883: Hauppauge PVR-500...nothing new about it.02:32
tgm4883logs?02:32
tgm4883or rather02:32
tgm4883!logs02:32
ZinnMythTV logs are stored in /var/log/mythtv/   You can use mythbuntu-log-grabber from the Applications menu to automatically post the most relevant logs to our pastebin.02:32
ctpatersontgm4883: I'll pastie a snapshot from a recent failed channel change...sec02:33
ctpatersontgm4883: http://pastie.org/643154  At 21:26:38 I started watching TV, and it worked.  I then tried to change the channel, and it returned to the menu after a delay.02:35
tgm4883!logs | ctpaterson02:36
Zinnctpaterson: MythTV logs are stored in /var/log/mythtv/   You can use mythbuntu-log-grabber from the Applications menu to automatically post the most relevant logs to our pastebin.02:36
tgm4883I would like backend logs as well02:36
ctpatersonk...I'll try the log grabber thing...never done it before, so bear with me.  Thanks.02:37
tgm4883ctpaterson, don't be afraid of it. We wrote it to do all the work for you02:38
ctpatersontgm4883: Not afraid...just inexperienced.  ;>  Standby...and thank you.02:38
ctpatersontgm4883: http://mythbuntu.pastebin.com/f16b9ae91  And having never done it before...may I just say that's a thing of beauty.02:40
ctpatersontgm4883: *ahem*  And those Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Phil viewings are NOT mine.02:40
tgm4883right ;)02:40
mrandctpaterson: that's what they all say.02:41
tgm4883I suppose the disney dvd isn't yours either02:41
ctpatersontgm4883: No, that I'll take the hit for...anything to make my little girl smile.  The wife, though, she hangs for her own crimes.02:41
abarbacciahas anyone tried compiling v4l on karmic yet?02:42
tgm4883so i'm seeing 2 things02:42
tgm4883#02:42
tgm48832009-10-05 21:37:31.539 MPEGRec(/dev/video2) Warning: Audio sample rate 32000 Hz02:42
tgm4883#02:42
tgm4883                        is not supported by ivtv driver, using 48000 Hz instead.02:42
tgm4883and a bunch of ERROR when trying to delete file02:43
tgm4883i'd try fixing both those and trying again02:43
ctpatersontgm4883: Okay...that strikes me as low...but I'm not sure I know what hits you about it.02:43
ctpatersontgm4883:  Sorry...disregard that.  Let me take a look at those.02:44
tgm4883ctpaterson, also, I see that /home is full02:46
ctpatersontgm4883: Are you able to steer me to where I might find the audio sampling?  I'm walking all the setup menus looking for it.02:46
ctpatersontgm4883: Now that's interesting...02:47
tgm4883/hulkster/backup200 is pretty much full too02:47
ctpatersontgm4883: Yeah...mythtv doesn't really care about hulkster...the drogos belong to it, though.02:48
tgm4883and why does (~paterson/bin/mythfront_startIfNotRunning.sh) run every second?02:48
tgm4883so yea, I would check all of those things and then try again02:49
ctpatersontgm4883: Those logs say a lot, don't they?  I was getting a lot of mythfrontend crashes for a while (might have been in 8.04).  That's a cronjob that checks whether there's a frontend process, and starts one if there isn't.  Saved me calls at work, and my wife the trauma of using the console.02:49
tgm4883ah02:49
tgm4883do you have a remote?02:49
ctpatersontgm4883: Remove control, yeah.02:49
tgm4883cause you could make one of your remote buttons launch that script02:50
ctpatersonerr...Remote control02:50
ctpatersontgm4883: Yeah...been meaning to do that for a while...just haven't got round to it yet.02:50
tgm4883ctpaterson, you need irexec, when you get around to it02:50
tgm4883but check those settings first.02:50
ctpatersontgm4883: Thanks for the tip.  Can you tell me where to find the setting for the audio sample rate?02:50
tgm4883I think the audio sampling is in the frontend recording profiles02:51
ctpatersontgm4883:  Odd...don't think I've ever been in there.02:51
ctpatersontgm4883: I've got four recording profiles; "Default", "Live TV", "High Quality", and "Low Quality"...all say 48k for audio.02:53
JokerNfearhey guys im having a problem with cbmcmyth and a backend server im getting an error connectiing to database ..im thinking my DB is set 127.0.0.1 and need to chang eit to the ip addy how can i do this?03:13
mattwj2002hi guys I need help03:48
mattwj2002I need help to upgrade mythbuntu 8.10 to mythbuntu 9.04 without a network connection only using a cdrom03:48
mattwj2002:(03:48
mattwj2002can anyone help me?03:48
hipitihopMy htpc is connected to my tv via hdmi, should I expect audio across hdmi ?03:57
ctpatersonhip: I think audio can be transmitted across HDMI...but is the port on your PC part of the video card or the audio card?  I suspect it's separate on the PC.03:58
ctpatersontgm4883: If you're still around, I've disposed with all the errored files.  I can't find the source of the 32000 audio sample rate, and so can't change it.  Everything I look at from the menu says 48000.  The problem still occurs.03:59
ctpaterson!help04:03
Zinn!help For a  complete list of my knowledge visit: http://www.baablogic.net/Zinn.cgi  Other available commands: !status, !about, !bug [bug_number].04:03
hipitihopctpaterson: I see, I'm not quite sure which because it is all intergated afaik It is a POV ION Duel Atom motherboard04:05
mrandmattwj2002: will you have net access after the upgrade?04:05
mattwj2002yes04:05
mattwj2002as matter of fact that is why I am doing the upgrade04:05
mrandSo you're expecting the upgrade to fix something, I take it?04:06
mattwj2002yes04:07
hipitihopctpaterson: if that is the case then you are suggesting that I will need to take audio out separately . since the tv has hdmi input is it likely to expect a separate audio input ?04:08
mattwj2002actually I am planning a fresh install now04:09
mattwj2002I did some talking over at #ubuntu04:09
mattwj2002I know that 9.04 supports my wireless nic right out of the box04:09
mattwj2002:)04:09
mattwj2002I am actually going to try the beta for fun.....anyone else experiment with it?04:09
hipitihopdoes anyone know why some channel recordings are without audio and others are fine ? how do I debug the settings.04:09
ctpatersonhip: I quickly read a review of the board...I'm guessing that the HDMI is video...there's a line in there that makes me unsure - but the table of I/Os looks like the separation that I'm used to.  Depends on the TV, but it might not be easily prepared for that.  I know I've got my audio going to a separate set of speakers.04:10
mrandmattwj2002: Oh, if you're willing to do a fresh install, that's great.  Lots of people are having sucess with the 9.10 beta.  Only minor regressions here and there.  Sound is one of our bigger challenges.04:11
mrandActually the beta iso is outdated - tons of fixes have occurred over the past five days.04:11
mrandBut if you have net access, you can easily update.04:12
hipitihopctpaterson: hmm thanks for looking at the board... TV is an LG-50PB4D ...looking at its manual now04:13
mattwj2002mrand what type of sound issues?04:16
ctpatersonhip: good luck...04:16
mattwj2002:-s04:16
mattwj2002I was actually having some with 8.1004:16
mrandpulse audio can get in the way... but it can be overcome without a great deal of effort.04:19
hipitihopctpaterson: thanks.04:19
mattwj2002but the updates fix it?04:19
mattwj2002I am excited about the new version of mythtv04:20
mattwj2002:D04:20
mrandWe have a patch that is not integrated yet... should be soon.  Many people don't have a problem, but those that do are able to work around it by disabling pulse audio.04:21
mrandWe're all excited about the new version!04:21
hipitihophow do I get at the settings which effect audio recording on a per channel basis...some channels record with sounds and others don't04:21

mattwj2002and it is driving me buggy :-s05:35
superm1file it on launchpad :)05:44
hipitihopdoes anyone know where to look as to why some channels record with sound and others do not05:44
superm1and also check the web updates, for all you know it might already be fixed05:44
mattwj2002yeah my pvr-500 won't scan channels05:45
mattwj2002:(05:45
mattwj2002it scans some of the channels and stops05:46
mattwj2002these are analog channels and stops in different areas too05:46
superm1i heard there were channel scanning bugs with the version on the disk05:48
superm1there is an update on the repositories though that should in theory address such problems05:48
superm1so just finish the install, do all updates and try running mythtv-setup again05:49
mattwj2002ok05:49

jdugganodd, im using a default trunk build this mythweb gets reset everytime, pretty sure i didnt change mysql config, but i'll check21:47
