RussellAlanIt keeps doing it by accident and im wondering what command did it03:30
RussellAlankubuntu03:43
JontheEchidnaRussellAlan: maybe alt + tab?03:43
RussellAlanWell alt tab has its own way off display03:43
JontheEchidnathere's also one where when you keep your mouse cursor at the top left of the screen for a second, the windows will appear03:43
RussellAlanthis method displays the windows in a flat view03:44
JontheEchidnathe "present windows" effect in the settings03:44
RussellAlanJontheEchidna:  something like that, because it happens when im browsing firefox and then randomly windows pops up for selection.03:44

peetanyone using Intel 945GM video card?10:05
BlizzerandMe !10:06
BlizzerandDo you have any problem running kubuntu with it10:06
peetdo you have a configuration that works well?10:06
peetgraphics is slow on Jaunty10:06
Blizzerandpeet : What is you RAM10:07
peeti GB10:07
peet1 GB10:07
Blizzerandhmm . Probably the graphics slowing everything  .10:08
peetI used the new drivers at http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu/ but I had to reinstall and now it doesn't work10:10
peetit works better in Karmic if I boot from live CD but if I install it, it doesn't boot10:11
Blizzerandpeet : Are you on jaunty or Karmic10:12
peetJaunty10:13
peetKarmic doesn't work, only from live CD10:13
* Blizzerand thinks jaunty had less support for old intel graphics .10:14
BlizzerandCan you enable desktop effects , peet10:15
peetI can, but it works slowly10:15
AngryKoalakwin is your wm i assume10:16
peetyes I use kwin10:17
AngryKoalatexture filter is bilinear?10:18
peetyes10:19
AngryKoalais it slow if you disable desktop effects10:20
peetit is faster, but other graphics stuff like games etc. are still slow10:20
AngryKoalahave you tried metacity?10:21
peetno, I didn't10:22
peetbut it won't solve my driver problem, I think10:22
AngryKoalahow do you know its a driver problem10:22
peetBlizzerand: what configuration do you use?10:22
Blizzerandpeet : I am using kde but not kubuntu lol10:23
peetoh10:23
peetAngryKoala: I said earlier: "I used the new drivers at http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu/ but I had to reinstall and now it doesn't work"10:24
peetit's clearly driver problem, because the new drivers worked better10:25
HollowPointpeet, just caught up with your convo, I've definitely run the 945GM card before, just not sure if it was on an older HP Laptop or the one sat next to me with the lid closed, either way I've used it with Kubuntu and worked fine, if it was the older laptop then it woul dhave been Hardy, whereas the new one is running Jaunty10:25
peetHollowPoint: yes, it was faster under Hardy10:26
HollowPointthis one here next to me is running a 945PM, so was the older one, i.e. Hardy that had the 945GM10:28
peetI suppose I can't use the Hardy drivers under Jaunty?10:29
HollowPointwhen you say slow?10:29
peetJaunty is slow10:29
peetIntrepid was slow too10:29
HollowPointthe whole system? Or just the graphics?10:30
peetjust the graphics10:30
HollowPointvery strange10:33
HollowPointyou've dropped to console and checked top I assume to make sure the system isn't running any undue load?10:33
AngryKoalamine is a Intel Mobile 945GME10:35
HollowPointWhat laptop model is it?10:35
HollowPointI'm guessing HP?10:35
peetonly xorg makes high CPU loads10:35
peetI have lenovo 3000 C20010:35
HollowPointhave you tried installing the absolute latest Karmic as of today? Or finding out if there is a special repo for the latest Intel Graphics drivers etc?10:36
HollowPointI noticed earlier when I upgraded Karmic there were Nvidia graphics drivers in the mix10:36
peetthere is a launchpad repository that has new drivers, which worked a bit better for me10:37
HollowPointRAM in the machine?10:38
peetbut I had to reinstall lately, and graphics don't work since I use these drivers10:38
peet1 GB ram10:38
AngryKoalacan you use older drivers?10:38
HollowPointoh and you mentioned high load from Xorg, how high and on what?10:38
peetI made a thread about it: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=128654210:38
HollowPointJust looking through google here I've spotted a few comments from people saying the 945GME is likely to be slow with GLX :S10:40
HollowPointnot news you wanted I'm sure10:40
HollowPointthis is GLX 1.4 and above I should add10:40
peetif I don't have desktop effects enabled, and run top from Konsole, xorg's cpu load is between 10 and 20% if I don't do anything10:41
HollowPointI was just gunna suggest turning effects off, but you've already done it10:41
peetyou use Karmic, HollowPoint?10:42
HollowPointon my desktop I do10:44
HollowPointlaptops are both running Jaunty10:44
HollowPointone HP one Dell10:44
peetwhat video card do you have?10:44
HollowPointon the desktop? A 3 year old Nvidia 7600GT10:44
peetlaptops?10:47
HollowPointI thought the HP was running an intel but turns out both are running Radeon Mobiles10:47
HollowPointI had a couple of HP laptops for work last year when I was working for a company in the city, they were both Intel 945GMs10:49
HollowPointthey both crapped out with desktop effects/compiz but ran fine without10:49
HollowPointthe HP we have now should be running a 945PM but turns out the missus paid extra for the Radeon when she bought it, (She's a graphic designer)10:50
peetwell, then I will have to wait until Karmic comes out10:51
HollowPointyou can't run the Beta/10:51
HollowPoint?10:51
peetit doesn't boot10:51
peetsays that the partition is corrupted and can't mount it10:51
HollowPointnot even if you switch run levels during boot?10:52
HollowPointthere is an option in Grub with Karmic to simply drop to a root shell, have you tried that and then sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade from the command line?10:52
peetno I didn' try10:53
HollowPointmight be worth a go, I'm truly loving Karmic it has to be said10:54
peetit stopped at fsck and said that it can't fix the partition and then dropped to a root shell with the partition mounted as read-only10:54
HollowPointyikes, that sucks10:54
HollowPointwas that the beta or the alpha6?10:55
peetbeta10:55
peetI could try to upgrade from Jaunty, but then I would have to reinstall again if it fails10:55
HollowPointah, then yeah I guess you'll have to wait, either that or try to upgrade from Jaunty to Karmic10:55
HollowPointyeah the joy of Linux though is that only takes 20 minutes or so10:56
HollowPointthere are issues with RAID in Karmic atm I notice, but not seen anything about SATA problems, which is the only reason I can think that the partitions would get screwed on install10:56

dorceshello, i need help :(16:07
kaddihi dorces. :) Please state your problem if we know the answer someone will answer16:08
sczgilaehi, i have problems with the language on my kubuntu 9.04. When i installed "Basque" language i see russian characters, however i thought that it have solution installing "kde-l10n-eu" library. But now im afraid because if i choose Basque as default language of the system i see again russian character and some shortcuts dissapear. on the other hand, if i start session as normal user and i choose Basque as language everything looks ok16:09
sczgilae deduce the problem is when i choose basque as default language of the system, the system load another library instead of "kde-l10n-eu".16:09

kaddiwhat amarok and how is it broken?16:14
dorcesCan not create a trace.16:17
dorcesIt seems that this trace will be useless.16:17
dorces  It is probably because the packages have been developed in a way that prevents breakage traces the development of fair, as well as can be, and so that the "stack frame" was damaged during the crash16:17

mikebeechamhey guys...I wanted to try Kubuntu for the first time today, but I'm having real problems burning the iso to disc...are there any helpful hints and tips for the burning process?16:59
_motti__you need to burn it as image file and not data. (this was my mistake when I first downloaded an iso file) what app are you using?17:00
mikebeecham_motti__: hey mate...yeah I'm doing that through Brasero17:01
mikebeechamI have Ubuntu on one machine, and I want to try Kubuntu on my second machine to see whether I would like it or not17:01
_motti__there should be simply be a button, "burn image"17:02
geniiMake sure if DVD image you're using a DVD... check the md5sum of the iso before burning... use a lower burn speed if underruns/overruns... if CD iso make sure you have a CD which allows that size (700-something Mb CD and not 650Mb CD)17:02
geniimikebeecham: If you already run Ubuntu you don't need a CD. Just install package kubuntu-desktop17:03
