Eys | good evening | 00:59 |
---|---|---|
Eys | I'am sorry to disturb you, and I'am also sorry for my english but anyway I have a question about mythbutun. I'am trying to install mythbuntu on a old laptop (thinkpad) with no functional screen, I am using a external screen wich works fine for installing any OS (including the ubuntu part for mythbuntu). But when i get to the mythtv first configuartion my screen just show some weird feature (grey and black boxes). Any idea ? th | 01:07 |
superm1 | sounds like you probably have an ati card in there | 01:15 |
superm1 | there is a known issue with 9.04 | 01:15 |
superm1 | look at the 9.04 release notes for it | 01:15 |
superm1 | there's a few workarounds you can do, or run 9.10 | 01:15 |
ToeBee | two years ago I hoped that ATI drivers would greatly improve after they opened up a bunch of their hardware specs. It didn't happen :( | 01:18 |
Eys | ok i read the bug comment, i found few solution thanks for the hint | 01:31 |
tmkt | so no solutions for hwr-1600 remote control issues in 9.10? | 01:36 |
kost_ | I have a problem. The livecd is not correctly detecting my onboard nvidia 7150 and is producing garbled display. since alternate cd's are no longer offered, how can I work around this? :( | 01:43 |
hads | Use the Ubuntu alternate CD? | 01:45 |
darthanubis | hads, I always do;) | 01:47 |
hads | Or a server or minimal CD or something | 01:47 |
darthanubis | You have to use the alt cd if you are using LVM | 01:47 |
tmkt | what version of mysql should be on with 9.10 | 01:52 |
tmkt | mythexport seems to not like 5.1 | 01:52 |
D_finn | could someone help me with getting my MCE remote working? irw sees the buttons being pressed but myth doesn't do anything | 01:57 |
tmkt | yeah i wish | 01:57 |
tmkt | i can't even get irw working | 01:57 |
D_finn | well that's frustrating | 01:58 |
kost_ | hads, there isnt a mythbuntu 9.04 or 9.10 alternate cd | 02:07 |
superm1 | kost_, i'm not sure an alternate would even help your scenario | 02:17 |
superm1 | are you on 9.04 or 9.10? | 02:17 |
kost_ | im trying 9.10 mythbuntu | 02:18 |
kost_ | the screen comes up as garbled junk. i was able to fix this previously by using an alternate cd to install, then installing the proprietary nvidia drivers | 02:18 |
kost_ | but the alternate cd's are no longer put out | 02:18 |
D_finn | is this remote the "new" or "old" version? | 02:20 |
D_finn | http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16880121003 | 02:20 |
superm1 | kost_, can you determine if it's booting up with vesa or nv at least? | 02:21 |
kost_ | how would i do that? trying to open a terminal with ctrl alt f1 doesnt bring me a login | 02:21 |
kost_ | im pretty sure its booting with nv, but the open source nv driver doesnt support my card | 02:21 |
kost_ | i need to use vesa | 02:21 |
superm1 | well there should be a menu option to force vesa | 02:27 |
superm1 | like F6 or something | 02:27 |
superm1 | at the CD boot men | 02:27 |
kost_ | yeah im trying that now | 02:28 |
kost_ | nope didnt work. man this is getting irritating :( | 02:28 |
hads | kost_: "Use the Ubuntu alternate CD?" "Or a server or minimal CD or something" | 02:28 |
hads | I know there is no mythbuntu alternate CD | 02:28 |
kost_ | hads the alternate cd's were discontinued after 8.10 | 02:28 |
kost_ | but thanks for the suggestion | 02:29 |
hads | I'm not going to say it again. | 02:30 |
superm1 | i bet the vesa force logic got broke when xorg.conf stopped getting made | 02:30 |
kost_ | yeah i noticed there is no xorg.conf anymore | 02:31 |
superm1 | so if you can boot into single user mode i can propose one more solution | 02:31 |
D_finn | no one on here is running the MCE remote? | 02:31 |
ToeBee | mythbuntu doesn't have daily CD builds, does it? | 02:31 |
superm1 | ToeBee, there are actually | 02:31 |
superm1 | cdimages.ubuntu.com/mythbuntu/ | 02:32 |
ToeBee | orly... | 02:32 |
kost_ | D_finn: i am | 02:32 |
superm1 | kost_, so if you can get into single user mode (usually just press F6 and add single to the end of that kernel command line) | 02:32 |
kost_ | i used the "new" choice in the remote list | 02:32 |
superm1 | sudo jockey-text -e xorg:nvidia-185 && sudo service gdm restart | 02:32 |
D_finn | and that was it, the rest just worked? | 02:32 |
superm1 | that will get you the proprietary nvidia driver in live mode | 02:33 |
kost_ | yeah. i had to add some more stuff for it to work in xine properly | 02:33 |
kost_ | i just plugged in the usb reciever and selected new, philips et al | 02:33 |
D_finn | i don't get what could be my issue then | 02:33 |
kost_ | sec superm1 let me try that | 02:33 |
D_finn | i did that exactly and am not getting any response from myth, boxee or mplayer | 02:33 |
D_finn | but irw sees the buttons being pressed | 02:33 |
ToeBee | superm1: thanks | 02:33 |
superm1 | D_finn, did you check the box to generate a lircrc? | 02:34 |
kost_ | D_finn: did you tell it to generate .... yeah | 02:34 |
D_finn | there's a box that says generate dynamic button mappings, is that the one? | 02:34 |
kost_ | i chose that | 02:34 |
D_finn | i check that, hit apply, it does it's thing and then when it goes back to the mcc window the box is unchecked | 02:35 |
superm1 | that means that it worked generally | 02:35 |
superm1 | check ~/.lircrc | 02:35 |
superm1 | and ~/.lirc/mythtv | 02:35 |
superm1 | see how they're looking | 02:35 |
D_finn | for which user? | 02:36 |
superm1 | the user you are running mcc as | 02:36 |
superm1 | and launching myth etc | 02:36 |
superm1 | this should all be the same user.... | 02:36 |
D_finn | .lircrc has a bunch of inlcude statements of files under ~/.lirc | 02:37 |
D_finn | those files exist | 02:37 |
superm1 | so check ~/.lirc/mythtv | 02:37 |
superm1 | see if it looks good | 02:37 |
D_finn | it's 291 lines, looks to have definitions for buttons | 02:38 |
D_finn | they all say remote = mceusb | 02:38 |
D_finn | sound about right? | 02:38 |
superm1 | yeah | 02:40 |
superm1 | you can try running ircat mythtv | 02:40 |
superm1 | and see if it detects errors anywhere | 02:40 |
* mishehu bahs. | 02:41 | |
D_finn | it's telling me what buttons i'm pressing on the remote | 02:41 |
superm1 | then it sounds like everything works | 02:42 |
superm1 | good :) | 02:42 |
hipitihop | I'm running latest beta. I have no idea what I changed recently but my task list panel always shows on the top even when in live tv mode, tips ? | 02:42 |
D_finn | yeah, this would be awesome if I bought the remote so I could watch irw and ircat scroll across my screen all day as I pushed buttons on the remote :( | 02:43 |
superm1 | haha | 02:43 |
superm1 | okay so next thing, mythfrontend -v help | 02:43 |
superm1 | and try the appropriate verbosity levels | 02:43 |
hipitihop | how do I get the task list panel at the top of the screen (one with applications menu) to not be visible when mythfrontend is running or in live tv mode | 02:45 |
superm1 | hipitihop, are you running compiz? | 02:46 |
superm1 | or gnome at all, or xfce? | 02:46 |
D_finn | 2009-10-08 19:46:05.108 lirc_init failed for mythtv, see preceding messages | 02:46 |
D_finn | ^ what does that mean? | 02:46 |
hads | ... | 02:46 |
superm1 | sounds to me like your problem :) | 02:46 |
D_finn | the next line reads: | 02:47 |
D_finn | 2009-10-08 19:46:05.109 JoystickMenuClient Error: Joystick disabled - Failed to read /home/dfinn/.mythtv/joystickmenurc | 02:47 |
hipitihop | superm1: standard install so afaik it is xfce | 02:47 |
superm1 | D_finn, look at the preceding messages | 02:48 |
superm1 | might be a good idea to use mlg | 02:48 |
superm1 | !logs | 02:48 |
Zinn | MythTV logs are stored in /var/log/mythtv/ You can use mythbuntu-log-grabber from the Applications menu to automatically post the most relevant logs to our pastebin. | 02:48 |
superm1 | run that tool and we can try to see better wazup here | 02:48 |
D_finn | mythtv: could not connect to socket | 02:49 |
D_finn | mythtv: Connection refused | 02:49 |
hipitihop | superm1: it was fine after I upgraded to latest beta but no idea what I changed recently, afaik was just using alt-tab to try and bring up mixer while frontend was up to get audio over hdmi working | 02:50 |
hipitihop | now the task list always stays up even after reboot | 02:50 |
hipitihop | the task list panel doesn't seem to have an auto hide property or anything I can see | 02:51 |
superm1 | D_finn, lircd is running right? what's the permissions on /dev/lirc* look like? | 02:51 |
superm1 | hipitihop, so maybe you've got an app running in the background? | 02:51 |
superm1 | hipitihop, you can move ~/.config and ~/.cache out of the way and logout login to reset all that stuff | 02:52 |
D_finn | crw-rw---- 1 root root 61, 0 2009-10-08 19:52 /dev/lirc0 | 02:52 |
D_finn | srw-rw-rw- 1 root root 0 2009-10-08 19:52 /dev/lircd | 02:52 |
superm1 | yeah that all looks right | 02:52 |
D_finn | root 7311 0.0 0.0 3116 568 ? S<s 19:52 0:00 /usr/sbin/lircd --device=/dev/lirc0 | 02:52 |
superm1 | well man, i dunno | 02:53 |
superm1 | what other stuff have you done weird to this install? | 02:54 |
superm1 | installed anything from source rather than binary debs? | 02:54 |
D_finn | not a single thing | 02:54 |
D_finn | can you show me your /etc/lirc/hardware.conf file? | 02:55 |
superm1 | sure | 02:56 |
superm1 | http://pastebin.com/f7e57f1c8 | 02:56 |
superm1 | nothing changed from a vanilla install remote wise | 02:56 |
D_finn | and your /etc/lircd.conf just says: | 02:59 |
D_finn | include "/usr/share/lirc/remotes/mceusb/lircd.conf.mceusb" | 02:59 |
superm1 | http://pastebin.com/f7f442160 | 03:00 |
D_finn | well, this is pretty annoying | 03:01 |
D_finn | i have no idea what it could be | 03:01 |
superm1 | if you've got nothing else invested, try a reinstall | 03:01 |
superm1 | couldn't kill it at this point | 03:01 |
superm1 | mine works OOTB on the next reboot choosing it in the installer | 03:01 |
D_finn | just started it up again and didn't get the error this time | 03:02 |
D_finn | but also have a blank tv screen | 03:02 |
D_finn | sweet, looks like the computer crashed | 03:03 |
D_finn | this is awesome | 03:03 |
D_finn | i'm really questioning why I didn't stick with windows and BeyondTV | 03:03 |
superm1 | blank tv screen is usually a permissions problem | 03:04 |
superm1 | !permissions | 03:04 |
Zinn | Most things mythtv related (recording directories, etc) need to be owned by the group mythtv and the user mythtv If you are getting "not writable" errors, check your permissions | 03:04 |
superm1 | !blank | 03:04 |
Zinn | Sorry I don't know about blank | 03:04 |
superm1 | !help | 03:04 |
Zinn | !help For a complete list of my knowledge visit: http://www.baablogic.net/Zinn.cgi Other available commands: !status, !about, !bug [bug_number]. | 03:04 |
D_finn | no, it actually crashed the box | 03:04 |
D_finn | no more ping response, blank screen | 03:04 |
superm1 | !blankscreen | 03:05 |
superm1 | oh | 03:05 |
Zinn | If you try to watch tv and are greeted with a blank screen and a return to the menu then please check the permissions on your recording directory. It should be owned by mythtv:mythtv, have permissions of 775, and not be inside your home directory | 03:05 |
superm1 | so maybe its just a flaky motherboard in the first place | 03:05 |
hipitihop | superm1: tried .cache and .config out of the way and that stopped mythfrontend from launching automatically but when I ran it from the menu then task list still stays on top | 03:05 |
D_finn | now i'm back to getting the error | 03:06 |
hads | Comments like "i'm really questioning why I didn't stick with windows" aren't really that helpful. | 03:07 |
D_finn | yeah, probably true. excuse my frustration | 03:07 |
hads | You're excused :) | 03:08 |
tmkt | not sure what it is..if its lirc version or what | 03:11 |
tmkt | just know that with 9.04 my remote worked great | 03:11 |
tmkt | with 9.10 | 03:11 |
tmkt | it doesn't even show up as lirc0, or some event number that other bugs have been listing | 03:12 |
tmkt | and mythexport has issues with sql on install - filed that bug 10 minutes ago | 03:12 |
Zinn | Bug 10 in malone "It says "displaying matching bugs 1 to 8 of 8", but there is 9" [Medium, Invalid] http://www.launchpad.net/bugs/10 | 03:12 |
hipitihop | does anyone know how to hide the task list panel at the top when mythtvfrontend has focus | 03:20 |
hads | If should do by itself. | 03:21 |
hads | There used to be an issue with compiz, not sure uf that's still valid. | 03:21 |
hipitihop | hads: yes and it used to and I have no idea what I did or how to reset that behaviour | 03:25 |
ToeBee | arg! with today's daily beta CD my sound card doesn't work at all! | 04:08 |
ToeBee | yesterday it worked from the liveCD and then didn't work from a hard drive install | 04:08 |
superm1 | ToeBee, ugh that's not good... | 04:09 |
superm1 | do you at least have mixers? | 04:09 |
ToeBee | saw this bug yesterday... might be related https://bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/+bug/442793 | 04:09 |
ToeBee | I have alsamixer and the "Mixer" app int he multimedia menu | 04:10 |
ToeBee | however the PCM channel is not listed in the mixer app | 04:10 |
superm1 | so we haven't gotten down to the bottom of that bug yet | 04:10 |
superm1 | use alsamixer on command line | 04:10 |
ToeBee | I see it in alsamixer | 04:10 |
superm1 | so is something muted? | 04:10 |
ToeBee | Line, Front Mic, Mic and Beep are muted | 04:11 |
ToeBee | but that seems fine | 04:11 |
ToeBee | master front and pcm are not | 04:11 |
ToeBee | but then again, it may be something to do with my hardware... I have seen some oddness in vanilla ubuntu liveCDs as well (I posted the link to the other bug) | 04:12 |
ToeBee | and why does mplayer claim to be using pulse for audio output? | 04:16 |
ToeBee | pulse is not running... | 04:16 |
superm1 | it's the default for mplayer | 04:18 |
ToeBee | or even installed for that matter | 04:18 |
superm1 | mplayer isn't on the live disks anymore i thought | 04:18 |
superm1 | it shouldnt be at least | 04:18 |
ToeBee | it is on this one... | 04:18 |
superm1 | interesting. that's bug :) | 04:18 |
superm1 | try using VLC | 04:19 |
ToeBee | well still no sound | 04:20 |
ToeBee | also specifying -ao alsa|oss doesn't do anything in mplayer | 04:20 |
ToeBee | for that matter cat'ing a file to /dev/dsp doesn't do anything either :) | 04:20 |
ToeBee | heh in fact, checking for updates from the liveCD says there is an mplayer update available | 04:26 |
superm1 | ha | 04:30 |
ToeBee | although according to synaptic, mythbuntu-desktop no longer recommends mplayer | 04:31 |
superm1 | looks like it's coming in by mythvideo: http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/germinate-output/mythbuntu.karmic/all | 04:31 |
ToeBee | although I'm not sure if that is the old or the new version | 04:31 |
ToeBee | aha | 04:32 |
superm1 | that should be dropped to suggests now that Internal works well | 04:33 |
superm1 | it's only needed for vcd's | 04:33 |
superm1 | oh wait a min. mythvideo recommend xine | ogle | mplayer | 04:33 |
superm1 | xine should have been picked then | 04:33 |
ToeBee | well is that for 22242 or 22304? | 04:34 |
superm1 | that's bzr trunk of the packaging | 04:35 |
superm1 | so it would be 22304 | 04:35 |
ToeBee | well I'm thinking maybe 22242 recommended/depended on mplayer. That's the version that was on the CD | 04:35 |
ToeBee | but regardless, mplayer is not the cause of my sound-not-workingness :) | 04:36 |
superm1 | yeah. | 04:36 |
superm1 | (next upload will fix the mplayer stuff though now) | 04:36 |
superm1 | so the absolute best think you can do is compare the manifests from the cd that worked and the cd that didn't | 04:37 |
superm1 | find the packages that are different | 04:37 |
superm1 | and look at what changed | 04:37 |
superm1 | who was that complaining about no X and safe graphics not workign? | 04:39 |
superm1 | bug 423969. just fixed that for future dailies | 04:39 |
Zinn | Bug 423969 in casper (Ubuntu) ""Safe Graphics Mode" doesn't force VESA" [Undecided, Fix Released] http://www.launchpad.net/bugs/423969 | 04:39 |
ToeBee | kost_ | 04:39 |
superm1 | ah guess we lost him | 04:40 |
ToeBee | hmm so what, I should do a dpkg --list after booting both CDs and then diff it? | 04:41 |
superm1 | there's actually a manifest on the cds | 04:42 |
superm1 | in the casper/ directory | 04:42 |
superm1 | filesystem.manifest | 04:42 |
ToeBee | ah | 04:42 |
ToeBee | even better. Can do that by just mounting the ISOs | 04:43 |
ToeBee | ah yes... for starters, the one that worked didn't have alsa-utils, alsa-base or linux-sound-base on it which I found somewhat odd | 04:49 |
superm1 | yeah that was a big bug | 04:50 |
superm1 | thankfully people have been reporting these kinds of things in time for them to still be fixed | 04:50 |
ToeBee | and yet sound worked... | 04:50 |
superm1 | that's REally bizarre | 04:51 |
ToeBee | aha! found my other 1 GB USB stick. I'll double check that these CD images are what I think they are. I've been downloading just about one a day lately | 05:00 |
superm1 | yeah the naming scheme sucks | 05:03 |
superm1 | especially when you forget to rename them after downloading | 05:03 |
ToeBee | yeah would be good to have the date in there somewhere | 05:04 |
ToeBee | md5sums help | 05:04 |
superm1 | .disk/info helps too | 05:04 |
superm1 | it's in the iso | 05:04 |
ToeBee | superm1: ok here are my basic observations after verifying ISOs and such: http://mythbuntu.pastebin.com/m7bbb9d12 | 05:25 |
superm1 | would it be much trouble to compare to an ubuntu disk? | 05:28 |
superm1 | hopefully the same day as our daily? | 05:28 |
superm1 | if it's still got problems, you can raise it with all the normal ubuntu audio guys | 05:28 |
superm1 | and if it doesn't, then we have a baseline to find the delta | 05:28 |
ToeBee | heh my ISP may hate me this month | 05:29 |
ToeBee | not that there is much love lost normally... | 05:32 |
=== Wy____ is now known as Wy | ||
ToeBee | superm1: looks like my sound is broken in the october 8 ubuntu CD as well :( | 06:29 |
superm1 | ToeBee, well that's good though. raise an ubuntu bug for it and there is that whole set of people to help too :) | 06:30 |
ToeBee | well I already filed this bug for some weirdness I was seeing even though sound kind of worked. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/439779 | 06:39 |
ToeBee | so I guess I'll update it | 06:39 |
Essobi | WEEEEEEEEEE! | 12:50 |
OmniCitadel | Greetings all, I know this probibly one of the most asked questions, I am looking for a good video card with IR receiver / blaster to work with myth any recommendations | 13:50 |
rhpot1991 | do you mean capture card? | 13:53 |
MythbuntuGuest02 | hey! | 13:53 |
MythbuntuGuest02 | only a short question: is there a console command for refreshing the database in mythbuntu? | 13:54 |
rhpot1991 | MythbuntuGuest02: by database you mean channel listings right? | 13:55 |
MythbuntuGuest02 | no, the movie database | 13:55 |
MythbuntuGuest02 | i transfer movie files via LAN | 13:55 |
MythbuntuGuest02 | now i want to edit the sql database, but movies won't be listed in the sql database until i refreshed the movie list in mythbuntu | 13:56 |
MythbuntuGuest02 | would be perfect if i could do it via ssh | 13:56 |
rhpot1991 | MythbuntuGuest02: what version of mythbuntu? | 13:56 |
MythbuntuGuest02 | still 7.10 | 13:57 |
OmniCitadel | rhpot1991: lol yes capture card... its a bit early for me | 13:58 |
rhpot1991 | MythbuntuGuest02: gonna be tough there, this is about the only thing I can thing of: http://thepisanis.com/node/11 | 13:59 |
rhpot1991 | looks like tgm4883 already packaged it some time ago: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5669899 | 13:59 |
OmniCitadel | rhpot1991: I am looking for a ATSC / ClearQAM / NTSC Capture Card with built in IR Receiver / Blaster | 13:59 |
rhpot1991 | OmniCitadel: most of the supported hauppauge cards should work well | 14:00 |
rhpot1991 | but I'd recommend a HDHR, and then a seperate IR dongle | 14:00 |
MythbuntuGuest02 | great rhpot1991! woudln't you recommend using that package? | 14:01 |
rhpot1991 | like this: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Control-Receiver-Windows-A9O-00007/dp/B00066FIO6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1255093231&sr=8-1 | 14:01 |
rhpot1991 | OmniCitadel: ^ that will work out of the box | 14:01 |
OmniCitadel | rhpot1991: I have a harmony remote... will any IR dongle work out of the box? | 14:01 |
rhpot1991 | MythbuntuGuest02: well it wouldn't hurt to try | 14:02 |
rhpot1991 | OmniCitadel: yep, harmony remotes know the phillips commands they use | 14:02 |
rhpot1991 | thats what I use are harmony 880s | 14:03 |
OmniCitadel | well i have a usb IR dongle which i got for syncing my pocketpc back in the day would that work? | 14:04 |
rhpot1991 | doubtful, but you could try to find a modle and google | 14:05 |
OmniCitadel | Doh The HDHR does not suport NTSC | 14:10 |
OmniCitadel | rhpot1991: I got it figured out... I was thinking i needed NTSC due to most cable channels being analog, but they are not really they are ClearQAM. Additionally the HDHR's have IR Receivers in them. Thanks for the assistance | 14:30 |
MythbuntuGuest02 | h | 14:34 |
MythbuntuGuest02 | rhpot1991: may you help me installing the updating-tool? | 14:34 |
MythbuntuGuest02 | i got nio i | 14:35 |
MythbuntuGuest02 | internet connection on the mythbuntu running system | 14:35 |
MythbuntuGuest02 | only the tar.gz is downloadabel, can't see any deb file | 14:35 |
rhpot1991 | OmniCitadel: ya not sure how well the IR in the HDHR is, I don't use it, but something is there for you to play with | 14:52 |
MythbuntuGuest22 | sorry rhpot1991, did you write anything concerning my question? | 14:59 |
OmniCitadel | and play I shall :-D | 15:02 |
rhpot1991 | MythbuntuGuest22: location has changed: https://launchpad.net/~mythbuntu/+archive/testing | 15:02 |
rhpot1991 | but they are all newer than 7.10, so you may or may not have issues | 15:02 |
MythbuntuGuest22 | but can i install the package without internet connection on the mythbuntu sys? | 15:04 |
MythbuntuGuest22 | can't find any helpful files I could handle. just the archive in tar.gz format | 15:05 |
rhpot1991 | you can download the debs directly from here: https://launchpad.net/~mythbuntu/+archive/testing/+packages | 15:07 |
rhpot1991 | you can try installing the hardy one and seeing how that goes | 15:07 |
MythbuntuGuest22 | thanks! unfortunately it requires newer packages | 15:11 |
MythbuntuGuest22 | won't finish configuration | 15:12 |
MythbuntuGuest22 | thank you very much for your help anyways rhpot1991! | 15:40 |
tmkt | morning | 16:10 |

MythbuntuGuest45 | hello. i installed mythtv manually from source and the mythfrontend startup script from mythbuntu got overwritten. Does anyone know where i can find that file? | 19:47 |
superm1 | mythtv-frontend package | 19:48 |
superm1 | why'd you install from source? | 19:48 |
superm1 | we provide builds of fixes and trunk | 19:48 |
MythbuntuGuest45 | because i want to try to change some things in the source | 19:48 |
superm1 | it's better to rebuild debs usually then | 19:49 |
MythbuntuGuest45 | so it is not possible to find that one file? | 19:49 |
superm1 | it is | 19:49 |
superm1 | look at the bzr repo: lp:~ubuntu-mythtv/mythtv/mythtv-trunk-022/ | 19:50 |
MythbuntuGuest45 | thank you | 19:50 |

Seeker` | just thought, I haven't done an apt-get upgrade in a few days | 20:10 |
tgm4883 | Seeker`, I think there was a bug on that once | 20:13 |

Seeker` | doesn't sound the same. Will upgrade after this episode | 20:14 |
tgm4883 | Seeker`, I was having the same issue, reported it there. Should have been fixed in 22167 | 20:15 |
Seeker` | k | 20:16 |
tgm4883 | so if it's still happening, you will need to update the bug | 20:16 |
tgm4883 | I don't think i've tried it since the fix | 20:16 |
tgm4883 | too many other things to work on | 20:16 |

Seeker` | which I'm guessing has caused the problem | 20:39 |
mrand | I think we may already have a bug on that. superm1 knows about it. | 20:40 |
superm1 | Seeker`, tgm4883 it's fixed in tonight's builds | 20:40 |
tgm4883 | good deal | 20:40 |
Seeker` | when will that be ready? | 20:41 |
superm1 | teal button doesnt work anymore so i couldn't queue it up that way | 20:41 |
superm1 | Seeker`, for now you can just install mythtv-common with force-overwrite | 20:41 |

superm1 | oh | 21:03 |
superm1 | but the immediate issue about overwrite files isn't | 21:03 |
superm1 | okay :) | 21:03 |
Seeker` | no, the overwrite files came about because I was trying to upgrade to fix the video issue | 21:04 |
juju | hello | 21:27 |
tgm4883 | !hi | juju | 21:32 |
Zinn | juju: Hi $nick, how are you? Something we can help you with today? | 21:32 |
juju | maybe I will find someone with a solution to my problem here ;) | 21:33 |
juju | all my Audio cd stutter during playback with mythmusic | 21:33 |
juju | Mplayer has the same problem except if I use a cache of 2mb | 21:34 |
juju | I saw some other guy with this kind of problem on google or myth maling list, but it did not help to solve.... | 21:35 |
mrand | What version are you running juju? | 22:00 |
tgm4883 | and how slow is your connection? | 22:04 |
juju | I tried 0.21 and current unstable | 22:05 |
Seeker` | tgm4883: do I need to do anything to the status of the bug? | 22:15 |
tgm4883 | Seeker`, say it is still happening, attach the data that mrand requested | 22:20 |
Seeker` | can't get the data incredibly easily | 22:20 |
Seeker` | girlfriend is wathing TV | 22:20 |
tgm4883 | get it later ten | 22:21 |
tgm4883 | then | 22:21 |
kost_ | simple question.... every time i boot up, the screen is in the wrong display resolution. how can i fix this? i set it with the nvidia settings manager and wrote it to xorg.conf, but it wont stop reverting | 22:21 |
tgm4883 | kost_, did you run the nvidia settings manager with sudo? | 22:21 |
kost_ | yes, and i verified the xorg.conf reflects the settings | 22:22 |
kost_ | ok i just also set it under display prefs. maybe that one will stick lol | 22:23 |
kost_ | woot! fixed. it worked | 22:25 |
superm1 | kost_, you missed my comment yesterday. i wrote a patch for safe graphics mode | 22:28 |
superm1 | would you be able to test it on tonight's daily to verify it works? | 22:28 |
superm1 | that or today's ubuntu daily contains it too (but not the mythbuntu daily) | 22:28 |
kost_ | superm1: i found someone also reported my exact issue at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-180/+bug/425372 | 22:29 |
kost_ | but sure ill test it. im pretty new to this stuff, how do i download the daily build? | 22:30 |
superm1 | kost_, cdimages.ubuntu.com/daily-live has the ubuntu dailies | 22:30 |
superm1 | cdimages.ubuntu.com/mythbuntu/daily-live has the mythbuntu ones | 22:30 |
superm1 | just to test safe graphics mode, grab the ubuntu one, and hit F4 at the menu and pick safe graphics | 22:31 |
superm1 | if that works, it will be working on the dailies for mythbuntu starting tomorrow | 22:31 |
kost_ | ok sure, ill test it tonight when i get home :) | 22:31 |
superm1 | afterward we can try to investigate why your card isn't working OOTB | 22:31 |
superm1 | cool thanks | 22:31 |
kost_ | do you want me to test mythbuntu daily build, the regular ubuntu, or both? | 22:31 |
superm1 | ubuntu build from today is fine | 22:34 |
superm1 | the code is the same for this particular functionality | 22:34 |
superm1 | the mythbuntu build isn't done until 1:06am central time | 22:34 |
kost_ | ok | 22:34 |
kost_ | grr a setting moved in mythtv .22. im looking where the method to display video went. i want to set it to use xvmc so i dont have choppy video playback. any idea where that moved to? | 22:35 |
superm1 | there's a profiles section | 22:35 |
superm1 | you set the profile based on resolution | 22:35 |
superm1 | playback settings still | 22:35 |
kost_ | oh its probably in the setup, not in the frontend settings. doh | 22:37 |
superm1 | its in the frontend | 22:39 |
superm1 | under TV settings, there is a playback option i thought | 22:39 |
kost_ | yeah it looks like there is... i have options like cpu+, cpu++, etc. ill have to read up on them. i dont see xvmc | 22:41 |
kost_ | i had everything setup nice on mythbuntu 8.04, then i upgraded and forgot where everything was :P | 22:43 |
kost_ | superm1: do i want 20091009.1 or 20091009 to test your patch | 22:44 |
superm1 | kost_, 20091009.1 | 22:46 |
superm1 | you dont need to do an install, just boot it with safe graphics mode, and that's it | 22:46 |
kost_ | sure thing. ill test it out | 22:46 |
superm1 | thx | 22:46 |
kost_ | aha! no wonder i didnt see xvmc, instead the profiles have been renamed to things like cpu--. :) | 22:49 |
superm1 | you should use vdpau though for your hardwaer | 22:53 |
superm1 | you had an ion didn't you? | 22:53 |
kost_ | nope its a geforce 7050pv/630i combo motherboard | 22:54 |
kost_ | i dont see how to setup vdpau, ill have to read more. | 22:54 |
superm1 | oh the geforce 7 series don't support VPDAU | 23:04 |
superm1 | http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VDPAU | 23:04 |
kost_ | think its worth upgrading for? | 23:07 |
kost_ | I can go buy one if it makes a noticeable difference :) | 23:08 |
superm1 | yes it will | 23:08 |
mersault | superm1, you around? | 23:10 |
superm1 | maybe | 23:10 |
mersault | I have some issues with the beta | 23:11 |
mersault | by default, the backend startup and shutdown commands don't work. I had to change them mythtv-setup, and modify sudoers. | 23:12 |
superm1 | how are those supposed to work? | 23:12 |
superm1 | what are they actually used for? | 23:12 |
mersault | when running mythtv-setup, when it asks you if it can shutdown the backend... | 23:13 |
mersault | and when it tries to start it up again | 23:13 |
mersault | there may be other instances, but those are the big ones. | 23:13 |
mersault | if mythtv-setup can't start mythbackend correctly when you exit it, it can hang as well | 23:13 |
mersault | or at least it did once for me while I played around with those settings | 23:14 |
superm1 | if that's it, then changing it to gksudo service mythtv-backend stop would fix it | 23:14 |
superm1 | our wrapper script does all that for you though i thoguth | 23:14 |
mersault | that would work. I did it with regular sudo and the init scripts, though I guess that's not the prefered way now, right? | 23:14 |
superm1 | well if this is ONLY used for that purpose, gksudo makes fine sense | 23:15 |
superm1 | i thought it was something with remote backends or something | 23:15 |
mersault | other issue with setting up my HDHR, I setup the two tuners (not by IP, but by MAC), and when I load up mythweb, I see three encoders listed | 23:15 |
superm1 | please file a bug so that we can track this and investigate it | 23:16 |
mersault | very odd | 23:16 |
superm1 | that's normal | 23:16 |
superm1 | HDHR supports multirec | 23:16 |
mersault | ah, okay | 23:16 |
mersault | I've never encountered that. what's multirec? | 23:16 |
superm1 | http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Record_multiple_channels_from_one_multiplex | 23:17 |
superm1 | support was added for HDHR in 0.22 | 23:17 |
mersault | oh, neato. | 23:18 |
mersault | also, I think mythfilldatabase is segfaulting on me | 23:18 |
mersault | wait, not anymore | 23:19 |
mersault | It did, but lets just chalk that up to silliness during setup | 23:19 |
superm1 | i've been seeing that too, but we can't get a good backtrace about it | 23:22 |
mersault | any idea how the HDHR deal with two devices trying to utilize it? | 23:26 |
mersault | also, I can't login to the mythbuntu xsession on my backend. I don't know if it's because it's running in a VNC terminal or not | 23:32 |
mersault | but it shouldn't know the difference. It should just think it's a frame buffer | 23:32 |
superm1 | no idea on the HDHR | 23:38 |
superm1 | what you mean a VNC terminal? | 23:38 |
superm1 | vnc is configured to start after you log in | 23:38 |
superm1 | eg it doesn't start at gdm | 23:38 |
mersault | well... when you run a guest in HVM mode in Xen, the terminal is plugged into a VNC server | 23:39 |
mersault | at least, if you enable it when you launch the guest. | 23:39 |
mersault | hmm... my MCE remote isn't working out of the box either | 23:41 |
mersault | ah, thats my setup at fault. I have two IR receivers (the MCE one, and the Soundgraph one in my Antec Fusion case). | 23:46 |
mersault | hmmm... so, now that I've defined a Videos storage group, how do I get them to my frontend? | 23:53 |
superm1 | they're there by default | 23:53 |
mersault | no files found | 23:54 |
superm1 | scan for changes | 23:55 |
superm1 | leave the menu | 23:55 |
superm1 | count to 5 | 23:55 |
superm1 | go back in | 23:55 |
superm1 | http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/MythVideo_.22_Transition_Guide | 23:55 |
mersault | aha, I'm used to the video manager scanning right away | 23:56 |
