Eysgood evening00:59
EysI'am sorry to disturb you, and I'am also sorry for my english but anyway I have a question about mythbutun. I'am trying to install mythbuntu on a old laptop (thinkpad) with no functional screen, I am using a external screen wich works fine for installing any OS (including the ubuntu part for mythbuntu). But when i get to the mythtv first configuartion my screen just show some weird feature (grey and black boxes). Any idea ? th01:07
superm1sounds like you probably have an ati card in there01:15
superm1there is a known issue with 9.0401:15
superm1look at the 9.04 release notes for it01:15
superm1there's a few workarounds you can do, or run 9.1001:15
ToeBeetwo years ago I hoped that ATI drivers would greatly improve after they opened up a bunch of their hardware specs. It didn't happen :(01:18
Eysok i read the bug comment,  i found few solution thanks for the hint01:31
tmktso no solutions for hwr-1600 remote control issues in 9.10?01:36
kost_I have a problem. The livecd is not correctly detecting my onboard nvidia 7150 and is producing garbled display. since alternate cd's are no longer offered, how can I work around this? :(01:43
hadsUse the Ubuntu alternate CD?01:45
darthanubishads, I always do;)01:47
hadsOr a server or minimal CD or something01:47
darthanubisYou have to use the alt cd if you are using LVM01:47
tmkt what version of mysql should be on with 9.1001:52
tmktmythexport seems to not like 5.101:52
D_finncould someone help me with getting my MCE remote working?  irw sees the buttons being pressed but myth doesn't do anything01:57
tmktyeah i wish01:57
tmkti can't even get irw working01:57
D_finnwell that's frustrating01:58
kost_hads, there isnt a mythbuntu 9.04 or 9.10 alternate cd02:07
superm1kost_, i'm not sure an alternate would even help your scenario02:17
superm1are you on 9.04 or 9.10?02:17
kost_im trying 9.10 mythbuntu02:18
kost_the screen comes up as garbled junk. i was able to fix this previously by using an alternate cd to install, then installing the proprietary nvidia drivers02:18
kost_but the alternate cd's are no longer put out02:18
D_finnis this remote the "new" or "old" version?02:20
D_finnhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1688012100302:20
superm1kost_, can you determine if it's booting up with vesa or nv at least?02:21
kost_how would i do that? trying to open a terminal with ctrl alt f1 doesnt bring me a login02:21
kost_im pretty sure its booting with nv, but the open source nv driver doesnt support my card02:21
kost_i need to use vesa02:21
superm1well there should be a menu option to force vesa02:27
superm1like F6 or something02:27
superm1at the CD boot men02:27
kost_yeah im trying that now02:28
kost_nope didnt work. man this is getting irritating :(02:28
hadskost_: "Use the Ubuntu alternate CD?" "Or a server or minimal CD or something"02:28
hadsI know there is no mythbuntu alternate CD02:28
kost_hads the alternate cd's were discontinued after 8.1002:28
kost_but thanks for the suggestion02:29
hadsI'm not going to say it again.02:30
superm1i bet the vesa force logic got broke when xorg.conf stopped getting made02:30
kost_yeah i noticed there is no xorg.conf anymore02:31
superm1so if you can boot into single user mode i can propose one more solution02:31
D_finnno one on here is running the MCE remote?02:31
ToeBeemythbuntu doesn't have daily CD builds, does it?02:31
superm1ToeBee, there are actually02:31
superm1cdimages.ubuntu.com/mythbuntu/02:32
ToeBeeorly...02:32
kost_D_finn:  i am02:32
superm1kost_, so if you can get into single user mode (usually just press F6 and add single to the end of that kernel command line)02:32
kost_i used the "new" choice in the remote list02:32
superm1sudo jockey-text -e xorg:nvidia-185 && sudo service gdm restart02:32
D_finnand that was it, the rest just worked?02:32
superm1that will get you the proprietary nvidia driver in live mode02:33
kost_yeah. i had to add some more stuff for it to work in xine properly02:33
kost_i just plugged in the usb reciever and selected new, philips et al02:33
D_finni don't get what could be my issue then02:33
kost_sec superm1 let me try that02:33
D_finni did that exactly and am not getting any response from myth, boxee or mplayer02:33
D_finnbut irw sees the buttons being pressed02:33
ToeBeesuperm1: thanks02:33
superm1D_finn, did you check the box to generate a lircrc?02:34
kost_D_finn: did you tell it to generate .... yeah02:34
D_finnthere's a box that says generate dynamic button mappings, is that the one?02:34
kost_i chose that02:34
D_finni check that, hit apply, it does it's thing and then when it goes back to the mcc window the box is unchecked02:35
superm1that means that it worked generally02:35
superm1check ~/.lircrc02:35
superm1and ~/.lirc/mythtv02:35
superm1see how they're looking02:35
D_finnfor which user?02:36
superm1the user you are running mcc as02:36
superm1and launching myth etc02:36
superm1this should all be the same user....02:36
D_finn.lircrc has a bunch of inlcude statements of files under ~/.lirc02:37
D_finnthose files exist02:37
superm1so check ~/.lirc/mythtv02:37
superm1see if it looks good02:37
D_finnit's 291 lines, looks to have definitions for buttons02:38
D_finnthey all say remote = mceusb02:38
D_finnsound about right?02:38
superm1yeah02:40
superm1you can try running ircat mythtv02:40
superm1and see if it detects errors anywhere02:40
* mishehu bahs.02:41
D_finnit's telling me what buttons i'm pressing on the remote02:41
superm1then it sounds like everything works02:42
superm1good :)02:42
hipitihopI'm running latest beta. I have no idea what I changed recently but my task list panel always shows on the top even when in live tv mode, tips ?02:42
D_finnyeah, this would be awesome if I bought the remote so I could watch irw and ircat scroll across my screen all day as I pushed buttons on the remote :(02:43
superm1haha02:43
superm1okay so next thing, mythfrontend -v help02:43
superm1and try the appropriate verbosity levels02:43
hipitihophow do I get the task list panel at the top of the screen (one with applications menu) to not be visible when mythfrontend is running or in live tv mode02:45
superm1hipitihop, are you running compiz?02:46
superm1or gnome at all, or xfce?02:46
D_finn2009-10-08 19:46:05.108 lirc_init failed for mythtv, see preceding messages02:46
D_finn^ what does that mean?02:46
hads...02:46
superm1sounds to me like your problem :)02:46
D_finnthe next line reads:02:47
D_finn2009-10-08 19:46:05.109 JoystickMenuClient Error: Joystick disabled - Failed to read /home/dfinn/.mythtv/joystickmenurc02:47
hipitihopsuperm1: standard install so afaik it is xfce02:47
superm1D_finn, look at the preceding messages02:48
superm1might be a good idea to use mlg02:48
superm1!logs02:48
ZinnMythTV logs are stored in /var/log/mythtv/   You can use mythbuntu-log-grabber from the Applications menu to automatically post the most relevant logs to our pastebin.02:48
superm1run that tool and we can try to see better wazup here02:48
D_finnmythtv: could not connect to socket02:49
D_finnmythtv: Connection refused02:49
hipitihopsuperm1: it was fine after I upgraded to latest beta but no idea what I changed recently, afaik was just using alt-tab to try and bring up mixer while frontend was up to get audio over hdmi working02:50
hipitihopnow the task list always stays up even after reboot02:50
hipitihopthe task list panel doesn't seem to have an auto hide property or anything I can see02:51
superm1D_finn, lircd is running right?  what's the permissions on /dev/lirc* look like?02:51
superm1hipitihop, so maybe you've got an app running in the background?02:51
superm1hipitihop, you can move ~/.config and ~/.cache out of the way and logout login to reset all that stuff02:52
D_finncrw-rw---- 1 root root 61, 0 2009-10-08 19:52 /dev/lirc002:52
D_finnsrw-rw-rw- 1 root root     0 2009-10-08 19:52 /dev/lircd02:52
superm1yeah that all looks right02:52
D_finnroot      7311  0.0  0.0   3116   568 ?        S<s  19:52   0:00 /usr/sbin/lircd --device=/dev/lirc002:52
superm1well man, i dunno02:53
superm1what other stuff have you done weird to this install?02:54
superm1installed anything from source rather than binary debs?02:54
D_finnnot a single thing02:54
D_finncan you show me your /etc/lirc/hardware.conf file?02:55
superm1sure02:56
superm1http://pastebin.com/f7e57f1c802:56
superm1nothing changed from a vanilla install remote wise02:56
D_finnand your /etc/lircd.conf just says:02:59
D_finninclude "/usr/share/lirc/remotes/mceusb/lircd.conf.mceusb"02:59
superm1http://pastebin.com/f7f44216003:00
D_finnwell, this is pretty annoying03:01
D_finni have no idea what it could be03:01
superm1if you've got nothing else invested, try a reinstall03:01
superm1couldn't kill it at this point03:01
superm1mine works OOTB on the next reboot choosing it in the installer03:01
D_finnjust started it up again and didn't get the error this time03:02
D_finnbut also have a blank tv screen03:02
D_finnsweet, looks like the computer crashed03:03
D_finnthis is awesome03:03
D_finni'm really questioning why I didn't stick with windows and BeyondTV03:03
superm1blank tv screen is usually a permissions problem03:04
superm1!permissions03:04
ZinnMost things mythtv related (recording directories, etc) need to be owned by the group mythtv and the user mythtv  If you are getting "not writable" errors, check your permissions03:04
superm1!blank03:04
ZinnSorry I don't know about blank03:04
superm1!help03:04
Zinn!help For a  complete list of my knowledge visit: http://www.baablogic.net/Zinn.cgi  Other available commands: !status, !about, !bug [bug_number].03:04
D_finnno, it actually crashed the box03:04
D_finnno more ping response, blank screen03:04
superm1!blankscreen03:05
superm1oh03:05
ZinnIf you try to watch tv and are greeted with a blank screen and a return to the menu then please check the permissions on your recording directory.  It should be owned by mythtv:mythtv, have permissions of 775, and not be inside your home directory03:05
superm1so maybe its just a flaky motherboard in the first place03:05
hipitihopsuperm1: tried .cache and .config out of the way and that stopped mythfrontend from launching automatically but when I ran it from the menu then task list still stays on top03:05
D_finnnow i'm back to getting the error03:06
hadsComments like "i'm really questioning why I didn't stick with windows" aren't really that helpful.03:07
D_finnyeah, probably true.  excuse my frustration03:07
hadsYou're excused :)03:08
tmktnot sure what it is..if its lirc version or what03:11
tmktjust know that with 9.04 my remote worked great03:11
tmktwith 9.1003:11
tmktit doesn't even show up as lirc0, or some event number that other bugs have been listing03:12
tmktand mythexport has issues with sql on install - filed that bug 10 minutes ago03:12
ZinnBug 10 in malone "It says "displaying matching bugs 1 to 8 of 8", but there is 9" [Medium, Invalid] http://www.launchpad.net/bugs/1003:12
hipitihopdoes anyone know how to hide the task list panel at the top when mythtvfrontend has focus03:20
hadsIf should do by itself.03:21
hadsThere used to be an issue with compiz, not sure uf that's still valid.03:21
hipitihophads: yes and it used to and I have no idea what I did or how to reset that behaviour03:25
ToeBeearg! with today's daily beta CD my sound card doesn't work at all!04:08
ToeBeeyesterday it worked from the liveCD and then didn't work from a hard drive install04:08
superm1ToeBee, ugh that's not good...04:09
superm1do you at least have mixers?04:09
ToeBeesaw this bug yesterday... might be related https://bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/+bug/44279304:09
ToeBeeI have alsamixer and the "Mixer" app int he multimedia menu04:10
ToeBeehowever the PCM channel is not listed in the mixer app04:10
superm1so we haven't gotten down to the bottom of that bug yet04:10
superm1use alsamixer on command line04:10
ToeBeeI see it in alsamixer04:10
superm1so is something muted?04:10
ToeBeeLine, Front Mic, Mic and Beep are muted04:11
ToeBeebut that seems fine04:11
ToeBeemaster front and pcm are not04:11
ToeBeebut then again, it may be something to do with my hardware... I have seen some oddness in vanilla ubuntu liveCDs as well (I posted the link to the other bug)04:12
ToeBeeand why does mplayer claim to be using pulse for audio output?04:16
ToeBeepulse is not running...04:16
superm1it's the default for mplayer04:18
ToeBeeor even installed for that matter04:18
superm1mplayer isn't on the live disks anymore i thought04:18
superm1it shouldnt be at least04:18
ToeBeeit is on this one...04:18
superm1interesting.  that's bug :)04:18
superm1try using VLC04:19
ToeBeewell still no sound04:20
ToeBeealso specifying -ao alsa|oss doesn't do anything in mplayer04:20
ToeBeefor that matter cat'ing a file to /dev/dsp doesn't do anything either :)04:20
ToeBeeheh in fact, checking for updates from the liveCD says there is an mplayer update available04:26
superm1ha04:30
ToeBeealthough according to synaptic, mythbuntu-desktop no longer recommends mplayer04:31
superm1looks like it's coming in by mythvideo: http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/germinate-output/mythbuntu.karmic/all04:31
ToeBeealthough I'm not sure if that is the old or the new version04:31
ToeBeeaha04:32
superm1that should be dropped to suggests now that Internal works well04:33
superm1it's only needed for vcd's04:33
superm1oh wait a min.  mythvideo recommend xine | ogle | mplayer04:33
superm1xine should have been picked then04:33
ToeBeewell is that for 22242 or 22304?04:34
superm1that's bzr trunk of the packaging04:35
superm1so it would be 2230404:35
ToeBeewell I'm thinking maybe 22242 recommended/depended on mplayer. That's the version that was on the CD04:35
ToeBeebut regardless, mplayer is not the cause of my sound-not-workingness :)04:36
superm1yeah.04:36
superm1(next upload will fix the mplayer stuff though now)04:36
superm1so the absolute best think you can do is compare the manifests from the cd that worked and the cd that didn't04:37
superm1find the packages that are different04:37
superm1and look at what changed04:37
superm1who was that complaining about no X and safe graphics not workign?04:39
superm1bug 423969.  just fixed that for future dailies04:39
ZinnBug 423969 in casper (Ubuntu) ""Safe Graphics Mode" doesn't force VESA" [Undecided, Fix Released] http://www.launchpad.net/bugs/42396904:39
ToeBeekost_04:39
superm1ah guess we lost him04:40
ToeBeehmm so what, I should do a dpkg --list after booting both CDs and then diff it?04:41
superm1there's actually a manifest on the cds04:42
superm1in the casper/ directory04:42
superm1filesystem.manifest04:42
ToeBeeah04:42
ToeBeeeven better. Can do that by just mounting the ISOs04:43
ToeBeeah yes... for starters, the one that worked didn't have alsa-utils, alsa-base or linux-sound-base on it which I found somewhat odd04:49
superm1yeah that was a big bug04:50
superm1thankfully people have been reporting these kinds of things in time for them to still be fixed04:50
ToeBeeand yet sound worked...04:50
superm1that's REally bizarre04:51
ToeBeeaha! found my other 1 GB USB stick. I'll double check that these CD images are what I think they are. I've been downloading just about one a day lately05:00
superm1yeah the naming scheme sucks05:03
superm1especially when you forget to rename them after downloading05:03
ToeBeeyeah would be good to have the date in there somewhere05:04
ToeBeemd5sums help05:04
superm1.disk/info helps too05:04
superm1it's in the iso05:04
ToeBeesuperm1: ok here are my basic observations after verifying ISOs and such: http://mythbuntu.pastebin.com/m7bbb9d1205:25
superm1would it be much trouble to compare to an ubuntu disk?05:28
superm1hopefully the same day as our daily?05:28
superm1if it's still got problems, you can raise it with all the normal ubuntu audio guys05:28
superm1and if it doesn't, then we have a baseline to find the delta05:28
ToeBeeheh my ISP may hate me this month05:29
ToeBeenot that there is much love lost normally...05:32
=== Wy____ is now known as Wy
ToeBeesuperm1: looks like my sound is broken in the october 8 ubuntu CD as well :(06:29
superm1ToeBee, well that's good though.  raise an ubuntu bug for it and there is that whole set of people to help too :)06:30
ToeBeewell I already filed this bug for some weirdness I was seeing even though sound kind of worked. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/43977906:39
ToeBeeso I guess I'll update it06:39
EssobiWEEEEEEEEEE!12:50
OmniCitadelGreetings all, I know this probibly one of the most asked questions, I am looking for a good video card with IR receiver / blaster to work with myth any recommendations13:50
rhpot1991do you mean capture card?13:53
MythbuntuGuest02hey!13:53
MythbuntuGuest02only a short question: is there a console command for refreshing the database in mythbuntu?13:54
rhpot1991MythbuntuGuest02: by database you mean channel listings right?13:55
MythbuntuGuest02no, the movie database13:55
MythbuntuGuest02i transfer movie files via LAN13:55
MythbuntuGuest02now i want to edit the sql database, but movies won't be listed in the sql database until i refreshed the movie list in mythbuntu13:56
MythbuntuGuest02would be perfect if i could do it via ssh13:56
rhpot1991MythbuntuGuest02: what version of mythbuntu?13:56
MythbuntuGuest02still 7.1013:57
OmniCitadelrhpot1991: lol yes capture card... its a bit early for me13:58
rhpot1991MythbuntuGuest02: gonna be tough there, this is about the only thing I can thing of: http://thepisanis.com/node/1113:59
rhpot1991looks like tgm4883 already packaged it some time ago: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=566989913:59
OmniCitadelrhpot1991: I am looking for a ATSC / ClearQAM / NTSC Capture Card with built in IR Receiver / Blaster13:59
rhpot1991OmniCitadel: most of the supported hauppauge cards should work well14:00
rhpot1991but I'd recommend a HDHR, and then a seperate IR dongle14:00
MythbuntuGuest02great rhpot1991! woudln't you recommend using that package?14:01
rhpot1991like this: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Control-Receiver-Windows-A9O-00007/dp/B00066FIO6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1255093231&sr=8-114:01
rhpot1991OmniCitadel: ^ that will work out of the box14:01
OmniCitadelrhpot1991: I have a harmony remote... will any IR dongle work out of the box?14:01
rhpot1991MythbuntuGuest02: well it wouldn't hurt to try14:02
rhpot1991OmniCitadel: yep, harmony remotes know the phillips commands they use14:02
rhpot1991thats what I use are harmony 880s14:03
OmniCitadelwell i have a usb IR dongle which i got for syncing my pocketpc back in the day would that work?14:04
rhpot1991doubtful, but you could try to find a modle and google14:05
OmniCitadelDoh The HDHR does not suport NTSC14:10
OmniCitadelrhpot1991: I got it figured out... I was thinking i needed NTSC due to most cable channels being analog, but they are not really they are ClearQAM. Additionally the HDHR's have IR Receivers in them. Thanks for the assistance14:30
MythbuntuGuest02h14:34
MythbuntuGuest02rhpot1991: may you help me installing the updating-tool?14:34
MythbuntuGuest02i got nio i14:35
MythbuntuGuest02internet connection on the mythbuntu running system14:35
MythbuntuGuest02only the tar.gz is downloadabel, can't see any deb file14:35
rhpot1991OmniCitadel: ya not sure how well the IR in the HDHR is, I don't use it, but something is there for you to play with14:52
MythbuntuGuest22sorry rhpot1991, did you write anything concerning my question?14:59
OmniCitadeland play I shall :-D15:02
rhpot1991MythbuntuGuest22: location has changed: https://launchpad.net/~mythbuntu/+archive/testing15:02
rhpot1991but they are all newer than 7.10, so you may or may not have issues15:02
MythbuntuGuest22but can i install the package without internet connection on the mythbuntu sys?15:04
MythbuntuGuest22can't find any helpful files I could handle. just the archive in tar.gz format15:05
rhpot1991you can download the debs directly from here: https://launchpad.net/~mythbuntu/+archive/testing/+packages15:07
rhpot1991you can try installing the hardy one and seeing how that goes15:07
MythbuntuGuest22thanks! unfortunately it requires newer packages15:11
MythbuntuGuest22won't finish configuration15:12
MythbuntuGuest22thank you very much for your help anyways rhpot1991!15:40

superm1mythtv-frontend package19:48
superm1why'd you install from source?19:48
superm1we provide builds of fixes and trunk19:48
MythbuntuGuest45because i want to try to change some things in the source19:48
superm1it's better to rebuild debs usually then19:49
MythbuntuGuest45so it is not possible to find that one file?19:49

Seeker`I downloaded the mythtv-theme-mythbuntu package separately20:39
Seeker`which I'm guessing has caused the problem20:39
mrandI think we may already have a bug on that.  superm1 knows about it.20:40
superm1Seeker`, tgm4883 it's fixed in tonight's builds20:40
tgm4883good deal20:40
Seeker`when will that be ready?20:41
superm1teal button doesnt work anymore so i couldn't queue it up that way20:41
superm1Seeker`, for now you can just install mythtv-common with force-overwrite20:41
Seeker`force-overwrite?20:42
superm1Seeker`, dpkg -i --force-overwrite BLAHDOTDEB20:43
Seeker`ty20:44
Seeker`tgm4883: same bug still20:59

Seeker`superm1: playing a VOB on the internal player, sound is normal speed, video is fine for a imnute or so, then video speed sup21:03
superm1oh21:03
superm1but the immediate issue about overwrite files isn't21:03
superm1okay :)21:03
Seeker`no, the overwrite files came about because I was trying to upgrade to fix the video issue21:04

kost_simple question.... every time i boot up, the screen is in the wrong display resolution. how can i fix this? i set it with the nvidia settings manager and wrote it to xorg.conf, but it wont stop reverting22:21
tgm4883kost_, did you run the nvidia settings manager with sudo?22:21
kost_yes, and i verified the xorg.conf reflects the settings22:22
kost_ok i just also set it under display prefs. maybe that one will stick lol22:23
kost_woot! fixed. it worked22:25
superm1kost_, you missed my comment yesterday. i wrote a patch for safe graphics mode22:28
superm1would you be able to test it on tonight's daily to verify it works?22:28
superm1that or today's ubuntu daily contains it too (but not the mythbuntu daily)22:28
kost_superm1: i found someone also reported my exact issue at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-180/+bug/42537222:29
kost_but sure ill test it. im pretty new to this stuff, how do i download the daily build?22:30
superm1kost_, cdimages.ubuntu.com/daily-live has the ubuntu dailies22:30
superm1cdimages.ubuntu.com/mythbuntu/daily-live has the mythbuntu ones22:30
superm1just to test safe graphics mode, grab the ubuntu one, and hit F4 at the menu and pick safe graphics22:31
superm1if that works, it will be working on the dailies for mythbuntu starting tomorrow22:31
kost_ok sure, ill test it tonight when i get home :)22:31
superm1afterward we can try to investigate why your card isn't working OOTB22:31
superm1cool thanks22:31
kost_do you want me to test mythbuntu daily build, the regular ubuntu, or both?22:31
superm1ubuntu build from today is fine22:34
superm1the code is the same for this particular functionality22:34
superm1the mythbuntu build isn't done until 1:06am central time22:34
kost_ok22:34
kost_grr a setting moved in mythtv .22. im looking where the method to display video went. i want to set it to use xvmc so i dont have choppy video playback. any idea where that moved to?22:35
superm1there's a profiles section22:35
superm1you set the profile based on resolution22:35
superm1playback settings still22:35
kost_oh its probably in the setup, not in the frontend settings. doh22:37
superm1its in the frontend22:39
superm1under TV settings, there is a playback option i thought22:39
kost_yeah it looks like there is... i have options like cpu+, cpu++, etc. ill have to read up on them. i dont see xvmc22:41
kost_i had everything setup nice on mythbuntu 8.04, then i upgraded and forgot where everything was :P22:43
kost_superm1: do i want 20091009.1 or 20091009 to test your patch22:44
superm1kost_, 20091009.122:46
superm1you dont need to do an install, just boot it with safe graphics mode, and that's it22:46
kost_sure thing. ill test it out22:46
superm1thx22:46
kost_aha! no wonder i didnt see xvmc, instead the profiles have been renamed to things like cpu--. :)22:49
superm1you should use vdpau though for your hardwaer22:53
superm1you had an ion didn't you?22:53
kost_nope its a geforce 7050pv/630i combo motherboard22:54
kost_i dont see how to setup vdpau, ill have to read more.22:54
superm1oh the geforce 7 series don't support VPDAU23:04
superm1 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VDPAU23:04
kost_think its worth upgrading for?23:07
kost_I can go buy one if it makes a noticeable difference :)23:08
superm1yes it will23:08
mersaultsuperm1, you around?23:10
superm1maybe23:10
mersaultI have some issues with the beta23:11
mersaultby default, the backend startup and shutdown commands don't work. I had to change them mythtv-setup, and modify sudoers.23:12
superm1how are those supposed to work?23:12
superm1what are they actually used for?23:12
mersaultwhen running mythtv-setup, when it asks you if it can shutdown the backend...23:13
mersaultand when it tries to start it up again23:13
mersaultthere may be other instances, but those are the big ones.23:13
mersaultif mythtv-setup can't start mythbackend correctly when you exit it, it can hang as well23:13
mersaultor at least it did once for me while I played around with those settings23:14
superm1if that's it, then changing it to gksudo service mythtv-backend stop would fix it23:14
superm1our wrapper script does all that for you though i thoguth23:14
mersaultthat would work. I did it with regular sudo and the init scripts, though I guess that's not the prefered way now, right?23:14
superm1well if this is ONLY used for that purpose, gksudo makes fine sense23:15
superm1i thought it was something with remote backends or something23:15
mersaultother issue with setting up my HDHR, I setup the two tuners (not by IP, but by MAC), and when I load up mythweb, I see three encoders listed23:15
superm1please file a bug so that we can track this and investigate it23:16
mersaultvery odd23:16
superm1that's normal23:16
superm1HDHR supports multirec23:16
mersaultah, okay23:16
mersaultI've never encountered that. what's multirec?23:16
superm1http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Record_multiple_channels_from_one_multiplex23:17
superm1support was added for HDHR in 0.2223:17
mersaultoh, neato.23:18
mersaultalso, I think mythfilldatabase is segfaulting on me23:18
mersaultwait, not anymore23:19
mersaultIt did, but lets just chalk that up to silliness during setup23:19
superm1i've been seeing that too,  but we can't get a good backtrace about it23:22
mersaultany idea how the HDHR deal with two devices trying to utilize it?23:26
mersaultalso, I can't login to the mythbuntu xsession on my backend. I don't know if it's because it's running in a VNC terminal or not23:32
mersaultbut it shouldn't know the difference. It should just think it's a frame buffer23:32
superm1no idea on the HDHR23:38
superm1what you mean a VNC terminal?23:38
superm1vnc is configured to start after you log in23:38
superm1eg it doesn't start at gdm23:38
mersaultwell... when you run a guest in HVM mode in Xen, the terminal is plugged into a VNC server23:39
mersaultat least, if you enable it when you launch the guest.23:39
mersaulthmm... my MCE remote isn't working out of the box either23:41
mersaultah, thats my setup at fault. I have two IR receivers (the MCE one, and the Soundgraph one in my Antec Fusion case).23:46
mersaulthmmm... so, now that I've defined a Videos storage group, how do I get them to my frontend?23:53
superm1they're there by default23:53
mersaultno files found23:54
superm1scan for changes23:55
superm1leave the menu23:55
superm1count to 523:55
superm1go back in23:55
superm1http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/MythVideo_.22_Transition_Guide23:55
mersaultaha, I'm used to the video manager scanning right away23:56
