oobesince the 22 fixes branch opened yesterday will there be a new repo for that instead of trunk00:37
oobeits a premature question just wondering if anyone knows00:37
NeoFaxLirc errors out on recent update on 9.10 beta00:46
NeoFaxHow can I fix this so I can try to fix my Nvidia drivers?00:46
mrandNeoFax: Lirc was working for you and then failed within the past day?00:48
NeoFaxNo, when I tried to update the packages with apt, lirc fails and causes everything else in myth to fail as it is a depend00:49
mrandWhen was the last time you updated successfully?  I assume you did an apt-get update today and it fails now?00:51
NeoFaxHere is the exact error apt spits out:  /etc/lirc/hardware.conf: 4: Syntax error: "(" unexpected00:51
mrandsuperm1 ^^^^00:52
NeoFaxI updated like two days ago and today it errors out with the above line00:52
superm1NeoFax, you have a ( in your /etc/lirc/hardware.conf?00:52
superm1where?00:52
NeoFaxREMOTE="ATI/NVidia/X10 I REMOTE="ATI/NVidia X10 RF (userspace)" II RF Remote"00:53
mrandNeoFax, Is it safe to say you didn't touch that file?00:53
superm1NeoFax, hm interesting.  can you walk us through your remote history, how we got to this point?00:54
superm1eg start at mythbuntu X.Y, run mcc, update this, blah blah00:54
tmktwhat could be messing up my ssh?00:54
tmkti can ssh to myself... but can't seem to ssh from external00:54
NeoFaxI installed mythbuntu fresh 9.10 beta and have updated pretty much every two days until today00:54
tmktchecked all my routers and they are setup the same before00:54
superm1NeoFax, what remote did you pick back then?00:54
tmktis there some obscure setting with 9.10?00:55
NeoFaxthe errored remote from above00:55
tmktapt-get remove lirc...and install everything else00:55
mrandtmkt: 9.10 ssh works fine for me, so it shouldn't take anything.00:55
tmktHmm00:55
superm1NeoFax, hm fun.  can you please file a bug about this?00:56
NeoFaxremoving lirc removes all of myth00:56
superm1attach everything you've got in /etc/lirc/00:56
tmktnah..it doesn't00:56
tmkti've removed lirc00:56
NeoFaxThe following packages will be REMOVED:00:56
NeoFax  lirc mythbuntu-common mythbuntu-desktop mythbuntu-lirc-generator mythbuntu-log-grabber00:56
NeoFaxYes it does00:56
tmktnah...just meta packages00:56
superm1and for now, just go into /etc/lirc and delete that line00:56
tmktnothing in them00:56
superm1-common isn't a metapackage00:56
superm1it's actually important00:56
superm1the fact that lirc is so tightly put in here is another bug, it can be fixed though00:57
tmkthmm..mymachine has been running fine without it..:D00:57
superm1make it more optional00:57
superm1tmkt, can you please file a bug about making lirc optional?00:57
tmktsure...will do00:57
NeoFaxOK, removed the files and sudo rm-rf'd hardware.conf and installed mythbuntu-desktop00:58
NeoFaxFixed the problem.  Now to get the nvidia drivers to work00:59
tmktalready there01:00
tmktmarked as won't fix01:00
tmkthttps://bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/+bug/13363401:00
jfry_can someone help me... I want to install to a raid array using the beta desktop cd (no alternate cd available).  I successfully installed but of course I get dumped to a busy box shell on reboot (disk by uuid could not be found).  Anyone know a trick that will make this work.01:00
superm1tmkt, back then it wasn't possible01:01
superm1it's doable now... :)01:01
jfry_^^ software raid, already assembled in live cd and installed to md0.01:02
hadsjfry_: edit the grub boot line?01:04
jfry_hads, that's what I would like to try...but grub2 is all greek to me01:04
hadsOh yeah, grub2 :)01:05
jfry_hads, I don't even get grub menu, or opportunity to edit the boot line01:05
hadsI forgot about that sorry.01:05
jfry_any ideas?01:05
jfry_Ever taken an existing partition and raided it?01:06
hadsBoot with the live disk and edit menu.lst01:06
hadsOr whatever grub2 uses these days.01:06
hadsI should really learn about grub2 so I can recover my own systems when I break them01:06
jfry_hads, it uses a grub.cfg that is dynamically created from templates in /etc01:07
jfry_hads, it's wierd... I guess I'll just install without raid for the time being01:07
jfry_hads, and hope I can upgrade later?01:07
jfry_hads, or I suppose I could download the ubuntu alternate and install the mythbuntu packages?01:08
hadsYeah, Ubuntu alternate is probably the easiest "normal" way.01:09
hadsSurely you can edit the grub2 config easily enough somehow though01:09
NeoFaxI am trying to get one of my other systems to sart x11vnc at boot.  How does mythbuntu do it.  I am running karmic on the other.01:13
NeoFaxOK, now that I can login to my mythbuntu box I am getting an error when trying to run mythbackend setup saying it is not compatible with the installed libraries.  Please recompile after a make distclean.01:18
NeoFaxAll I want to do is just watch some TV across the LAN.01:18
jfry_NeoFax, don't use vnc... ugh... use mythweb01:23
jfry_NeoFax, or even better, install a frontend on the other box... or almost as good, use UPNP01:25
NeoFaxI want to use vnc as I am too lazy to hook up a monitor to the other pc.  Also, it does not have myth on it.01:30
NeoFaxIt is just plain Ubuntu Karmic01:31
NeoFaxAs for the Myth server, it has a frontend and I do use mythweb and a frontend01:31
tmktso just reopen that bug?01:34
tmktor do you want me to file a new one01:34
NeoFaxCould you open a new one?01:36
tmktsure01:37
NeoFaxWhat could cause the libraries to be jacked like that?01:37
NeoFaxJust updated at the wrong time?01:38
marc_anyone else have issues with dvd jerky playback?01:41
mrandmarc_ straight from a dvd?  What version of myth are you running?02:17
marc_i'm playing a standard PAL dvd in karmic beta02:17
marc_tried a few different ones with mixed results, I've tried different playback profiles and deinterlace methods02:18
mrandI believe that playback from dvd is known to be troublesome.  If you can rip it, I believe the results are better - although 0.22 + storage groups doesn't deal with .iso very well02:18
marc_yeah, its wierd cos I can play any dvd in vlc and playback is smooth as02:20
marc_I managed to get surround sound working via spdif last night02:26
marc_but the switch in the mixer isn't staying selected when rebooting02:26
mrandmarc_ think you could search LP, and if you don't find anything write a bug against it?  not sure the  name of the package off the top of my head.  Command would be "ubuntu-bug mixer" (replace mixer with something sound mixer related that isn't working for you).02:29
marc_k, thanks02:29
neofax99OK, got everything worked out but cannot connect remote frontend to backend.  Backend has a IP of 192.168.1.8 and Frontend 192.168.1.9 and I have server IP as 127.0.0.1 in backend-setup.  What am I doing wrong?02:40
hadsBah, I hate it when I forget to unmount NFS before rebooting the server.02:40
hadsYah, unfreeze02:41
hadsD'oh, no more RAID02:47
superm1tmkt, bug 13363402:52
ZinnBug 133634 in mythbuntu "lirc shouldn't be such a hard dependency" [Wishlist, New] http://www.launchpad.net/bugs/13363402:52
hadsGot a bit carried away now my VM server is running karmic too.03:04
Seventoesinstallin 9.10 with fingers crossed :D05:34
Seventoesdaily build from today05:34
superm1Seventoes, new iso generates in 1hr 28min if yo udidn't already download05:42
Seventoesyeah i know05:42
Seventoesbut meh05:43
Seventoeslol05:43
Seventoesits installing now05:43
superm1no probs05:43
superm1you might have a problem with nvidia from last night05:43
Seventoesi dont think im using the nvidia drivers.. guess we'll see05:44
superm1you might need to ssh in and run 'dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-185-kernel-source' or something like that05:44
superm1oh okay, nvm then05:44
jfry_anyone have working coverart with 0.22... it doesn't error or anything but it doesn't appear to download the art either.06:03
superm1jfry_, works for me.  have you tried an interactive jamu run?06:03
jfry_no... but I'd like to know why this isn't working first.06:04
jfry_any guesses... for the few I have tried it gives me myth://coverart@myserverIP... as the path to the file... which I assume is correct.06:05
jfry_perhaps the backend isn't providing that interface... do I need to install mythvideo on the backend too?06:06
Seventoeshrm... with my pvr-150, when I go to scan for channels it just sits there with "Scanning us-cable-hrc 1 No Lock"06:09
jfry_are you on an hrc carrier?06:10
Seventoesyep its all the same settings i used in 0.2106:10
Seventoesim on 0.22 now06:10
Seventoeslooking at terminal, every time i start the scan it says "DTVParamHelper::toString() index out of bounds"06:14
jfry_superm1, figured out my problem... it was a stupid permissions issue.   But now how do I force the ones that think they have coverart to re-download it.06:16
superm1jfry_, no idea06:18
superm1jfry_, where were the permissions problems?  were they by default, or because you changed something06:18
jfry_on .21 there was a reset meta-data option? where did it go!06:18
jfry_superm1, I created subfolders in my mythtv user's home directory (on large raid array), but forgot that I was su'd so they were created with root:root06:19
jfry_Found it... use 'I' to bring up the menu rather than m06:20
Seventoeswheres the mythbuntu bug reporter? this looks like a bug to me06:22
superm1Seventoes, make sure you are on the latest updates06:22
Seventoesit was downloaded today06:22
Seventoesfrom the daily page06:22
superm1trust me, look for updates06:22
superm1there was stuff uploaded after that image was spun06:23
Seventoesno internet connection on that box atm :-/06:23
Seventoesonce i get one, will updates keep me up the same as the daily iso?06:23
hipitihopstruggling to delete live tv entries via mythweb... they appear to delete and whenone goes back the entries reapear06:23
hipitihopsome have deleted ok but there are 3 entries remaining which seem to refuse to delete...iow they show again after being deleted06:24
jfry_superml, any tips for using jamu with mytbuntu... where is it even?06:24
hadsBum, my VM server can't boot the images it's creating with vm-builder anymore.06:27
superm1Seventoes, yeah06:30
superm1jfry_, /usr/share/mythtv/mythvideo/scripts/jamu.py06:31
superm1jfry_, it runs non-interactively automatically every day too06:31
jfry_superm1, it runs automatically by default, or do I need to configure that?06:44
superm1jfry_, by default06:45
superm1one of the jobs runs once an hour06:45
superm1and one once a day06:45
jfry_superm1, is that a mythtv default or a mythbuntu... I installed using the ubuntu alternate cd, then added the mythtv packages so somethings won't be the same.06:46
superm1jfry_, it's a mythtv default, but i would recommend that you add mythbuntu-desktop if you want to get everything in the same experience06:46
ToeBeeso why is mplayer no longer installed by default?06:49
superm1ToeBee, it's not needed for anything06:50
superm1mythvideo uses internal now06:50
jfry_superm1, I am not really concerned about having everything on my backend... it will not be used to watch T.V.  Once I get everything setup I will drop it to a prompt and leave it there.06:51
ToeBeewell the reason I'm curious is that I just tried to play a clip that claims to be a 1080i .mov file from nasa. I believe in myth it used the internal player06:51
ToeBeeit was unwatchable but mplayer played it just fine06:51
superm1ToeBee, well then you should change your video profile06:52
jfry_ToeBee, you can always set an alternate player06:52
superm1odds are you're not using VPDAU or your deinterlacer is too intense for it06:52
ToeBeehmm06:54
jfry_superm1, heres a good question... why the heck does mythvideo show my recordings directory... I want it to start in the videos directory06:56
jfry_superm1, I didn't see a setting for that.06:56
superm1jfry_, did you not make a videos storage group?06:57
superm1or did you remove the default one?06:57
jfry_I did... that's why it's strange06:57
jfry_When I open mythvideo I see "storage groups" and "recordings" as my options and I have to pick from there.06:58
superm1jfry_, did you override the setting in the frontend perhaps?06:58
superm1there is a setting in mythvideo for where it looks for "Non storage groups" videos06:58
jfry_superm1, you nailed it!06:59
superm1was this a problem with a default setting?07:00
jfry_I must have typed /home/mythtv/recordings in a rush07:00
superm1or again because of stuff you changed?07:00
superm1oh okay07:00
superm1you can just set that to blank07:00
superm1and then use storage groups only07:00
superm1works better for remote frontends07:00
jfry_I will do that now... thanks.07:01
jfry_superm1, ok... last question (for now at least) why doesn't it play iso's of DVD's  do I need to install a library of some sort?07:04
jfry_I can't imagine I need decss07:04
superm1!iso% | jfry_07:05
Zinnjfry_: Storage Groups are a streaming method of transmitting material to a frontend, meaning they don't provide block-level access to the file in question. An ISO is a disk image, and libdvdnav/libdvdcss, the libraries used to view DVDs/DVD images, requires block-level access. Upstream has a plan to simulate a block device across the network using NBD for .23. See http:07:05
superm1oh awesome, the link is cut off07:06
superm1tgm4883, ^07:06
superm1anyway, you have to use non-storage groups for ISOs if you want to use them07:06
superm1so if you set that directory in the frontend settings to where you keep your ISOs, they'll be playable07:06
ToeBeemmmm HD space pr0n07:06
superm1but not sharable over the network to remote frontends07:06
jfry_superm1, damn... so either I need to transcode my iso's or export them using NFS/samba07:06
Zinnjfry_: Please watch your language.07:06
jfry_superm1, ever seen a decent script that will batch transcode a bunch of iso's and img's to something a bit more portable?07:08
superm1beats me07:09
jfry_superm1, it will work find with videots folders though right?07:09
superm1"vidoes folders"?07:10
superm1like folders filled with videos?07:10
jfry_no ts folders... like you find on a dvd?07:10
superm1i dont know if that stuff is supported07:10
superm1check with the guys in #mythtv-users if no one in here is sure07:10
ToeBeesuperm1: aha! the mythtv wiki says my video card suffers from "occasional stutter" when de-interlacing 1080i using VDPAU07:12
ToeBeehmm I also seem to be hearing a very high pitched whine out of my speakers after a few seconds of no audio (when power saving kicks in?)07:15
superm1ToeBee, well if VDPAU doesnt work for that format, you can try to mark that file format to open with mplayer still07:16
superm1and mplayer is still on the repos07:16
ToeBeeyeah that's what I did07:16
ToeBeeactually my default player is set to mplayer from before the upgrade :)07:17
ToeBeebut .mov was explicitly set to open with the internal player07:17
ToeBeejust seems like mplayer isn't getting much love lately07:19
ToeBeenot just in mythtv... although I'm not at all sure where i got that impression from07:20
ToeBeeit is entirely possible I am starting to go insane due to lack of sleep07:21
ToeBeethe good news is that I think I have a halfway decent lirc config set up07:23
superm1its too bad  that it takes so much work for your remote07:24
superm1mine works OOTB :)07:24
ToeBeewell it didn't help that I had never touched lirc before07:24
ToeBeesince I just used a wiimote before. Which worked but it was slightly annoying to have to ssh in to start wminput every time I wanted to use mythtv07:25
ToeBeethat and the wiimote goes through batteries like there is no tomorrow07:26
superm1did the wiimote provide you enough buttons?07:27
ToeBeeI managed to get most of the functionality I use packed in07:28
ToeBee-/+ = prev/next ad flag, home = ESC, A = P, B = Enter07:29
ToeBeeand of course up/down/left/right07:29
superm1yeah but you need to memorize what all those mean then :)07:30
ToeBeeheh well yes07:30
ToeBeehad 1 and 2 buttons mapped too. Don't remember what they did though07:31
ToeBeeI think maybe program guide and toggling recording07:31
ToeBeereally the only thing missing compared to the remote I have now was volume control and I could do that on my stereo07:33
ToeBeewell and I guess number buttons07:33
superm1and proper labels :)07:33
ToeBeedetails07:33
superm1i'm surprised that it went through batteries quick though.  did it not support lower power modes?07:33
ToeBeeit was relatively intuitive... to me07:33
ToeBeewell I guess batteries would last for several days if I remembered to turn it off at night07:34
superm1that's pretty bad07:34
ToeBeebut if I left it paired, batteries would be dead in under 2 days07:34
superm1well normal BT devices that are paired aren't always active though07:35
superm1i mean i've got a mouse that can go on for months because it goes to sleep07:35
ToeBeehmm maybe I could have tweaked cwiid07:35
superm1maybe it just didn't support that too07:35
ToeBeeI eventually just made a cron job. "killall wminput" at 2 AM07:36
ToeBeeman I'm kind of surprised at how much horsepower this music visualization takes to run at 1080p07:38
ToeBeepretty much keeping 1 of my cores busy on a quad AMD07:38
ToeBeewell now I just need boxee to hurry up and get a 64 bit build out the door. Then I think I'll be in HTPC heaven07:40
superm1i think boxee is less important now that we have huludesktop though07:41
ToeBeeor at least as close as is possible with the cable company and their DRM07:41
ToeBeewell actually hulu desktop is segfaulting on me :(07:41
ToeBeecurse proprietary apps and their lag in 64 bit support!07:42
ToeBeeI think it is actually flash that is bombing out07:42
ToeBeeoh sweet jesus I just about had a heart attack. Somehow dpkg thought it would be a good idea to do a reconfigure on lirc08:00
superm1haha08:13
ToeBeebug 38214008:32
ZinnBug 382140 in linux (Ubuntu) "karmic: high-pitched noise from snd-hda-intel" [Undecided, Confirmed] http://www.launchpad.net/bugs/38214008:32
ToeBeeit bites me!08:32
hipitihopit seems my Imon based Antec Veris Basic is still being hogged by usbhid driver in latest with 0.8.6 lirc. anyone have tips to stop that so I can try and get lirc working properly with my remote ?09:14
superm1hal fdi files are the only way to blacklist stuff like that i thought09:23
hipitihopsuperm1: I wouldn't know, this is a little out of my linux league is this a similar thing ? just need to adapt to mythbuntu I guess http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=40290&highlight=antec+micro+fusion09:35
hipitihopsuperm1: and if I follow the first few steps then indeed my driver is listed as usbhid but dmesg also shows "lirc_dev: IR Remote Control driver registered, major 61 " and "lirc_imon: Driver for SoundGraph iMON MultiMedia IR/Display, v0.6 .... usbcore: registered new interface driver lirc_imon"09:37
* hipitihop is confused as to what to try next and would love to actually use his shiny new htpc using a remote09:39

=== tmkt_ is now known as tmkt
tmktola14:01

tmktnever mind14:04
tmktall figured out14:04
tmkthave to start with byobu instead14:05
superm1hipitihop, usbhid isn't shipped as a module anymore, it's either built in or re-named15:09
superm1look for a howto for xbmc on ubuntu jaunty or later15:09
superm1there's a lot of people who have fusions set up15:09
superm1that or just wait until someone does a karmic one15:09
superm1rhpot1991, ^ maybe you have some hints to point hipitihop at?15:09

tmktyup17:26
superm1how's the patch look?17:26
tmktdunno..he's putting it on the lirc mailing list shortly17:26
superm1it's too bad this was the day after kernel freeze17:27
superm1we coulda had it17:27
tmktof course..:)17:27
superm1well once the patch is sorted out, we'll need a quick howto for how to install lirc-modules-source, add the patch and rebuild for people17:27
superm1and then shoot for an SRU with it17:28
tmktyeah..he's putting something like that in the lirc mailing list17:28

darthanubismythtv-frontend: Depends: mythtv-common but it is not going to be installed18:47
darthanubis???18:47
darthanubisI have the frontend on my laptop just fine, x86, but my desktop x64 does not want to install it?18:48
darthanubisThe backend x64 has everything running on it superbly.18:48
darthanubisWhy just this machine?18:49
superm1darthanubis, likely your mirror doesn't have the build yet18:52
superm1try switching to archive.ubuntu.com18:52
* darthanubis checking mirrors18:53
darthanubisas opposed to us.archive.ubuntu right?18:54
superm1Yup18:54
darthanubisgot it18:54
superm1us.archive.ubuntu.com usually lags by about 6-12 hours18:54
darthanubisahhhh18:54
darthanubisI always thought that one was as current as "main"18:55
darthanubisI would have tried that eventually, but glad you were lurking:)18:55
darthanubissuperm1, worked! But you knew that;)19:14
ExElNeT_so... does beta contain 22 rc1?20:29
mrandExeInet_: yes22:43
mrandI'd suggest using a nightly disk rather than the beta disk.  Or even better, enable the auto-build PPA.22:43
tgm4883mrand, I don't think beta contains 22 rc122:44
tgm4883I think it was uploaded after beta was released22:44
tgm4883but yea, 9.10 does have 0.22 rc1 now22:45
mrandTrue that the beta disk itself contains "pre" 22rc1 - if you do your updates, you end up with rc1 though.22:45
darthanubisfrontend was working fine, now crashes as I try to navigate to the daily show22:51
mranddarthanubis: Anything in /var/crash?22:52
tgm4883darthanubis, Jon Stewart is more funny than the frontend can handle :(22:53
darthanubistgm4883, apparently22:53
darthanubismrand, yes, surprisingly22:53
tgm4883but yea, /var/crash?22:53
tgm4883or22:53
tgm4883!logs22:53
ZinnMythTV logs are stored in /var/log/mythtv/   You can use mythbuntu-log-grabber from the Applications menu to automatically post the most relevant logs to our pastebin.22:53
darthanubisuploading the crash report now22:54
mrandIf it is myth releated, then type ubuntu-bug <name>  where <name> is whatever package name is in /var/crash22:54
mrandThanks.22:54
darthanubisthanks for the details22:55
* darthanubis not a noob ;)22:55
mranddarthanubis: never know.  Thanks for helping out!!22:55
darthanubisthx you, I understnad, and my pleasure!22:56
darthanubisplays everything else, but is choking on Stewart22:57
darthanubisweird22:57
mrandIndeed... very, very strange.22:57
darthanubismaybe something with the stewart file I was watching has the backend stuck on his file?22:57
darthanubisThe hardest part for me about filing bugs is describing what was the cause22:59
darthanubisbecause usually I'm just trying to use the application as intended22:59
