zoraelSo it can sit for hours and just say Account Offline00:00
DragnslcrHm, I don't know if I've noticed that problem. My router doesn't lose its Internet connection very often00:00
Lord_Drachenbluthow it going Kaj-Laptop00:00
DragnslcrMight be worth asking in #kopete or sending a message to the mailing list to see if it's a known issue or if you should file a bug report00:00
zoraelDragnslcr: alternative would be if I have a bad wireless signal (laptop), and I get enough packet loss to lose connection to the server but not to completely lose the network connection00:00
DragnslcrIt might have to do with how Kopete detects your network connection (or if it uses some KDE functions for the network detection)00:01
Kaj-LaptopLord_Drachenblut, ok00:02
zoraelThat's still assuming the server connection will always stay alive as long as I'm connected to the network, but yeah00:03

CoyotesIs it possible to install both Kubuntu and Ubuntu on the same hard drive?14:01
CoyotesMore importantly:  Would I even want to?14:02
tsimpsonsure, just install both packages kubuntu-desktop and ubuntu-desktop14:02
CoyotesI seem to remember someone talking about installing one and getting other from package?14:02
CoyotesOh ok14:02
CoyotesSo leave my existing install alone?14:03
CoyotesI miss Synaptic in K :(14:03
tsimpsonjust install synaptic?14:03
Coyotesd'oh14:03
CoyotesOK going to go do that on my AMD64 desktop machine...  Thanks!14:03
tsimpsonno problem :)14:03
CoyotesOh, another question.14:04
CoyotesIf someone were to release a game engine, would it be possible to have 2 licenses... One for engine and other for paid-for addons?14:05
CoyotesLike 1)  Free, anyone can make their own servers.  2)  Custom quests and such.14:05
tsimpsonif it's your product, you can choose whatever terms you want14:05
tsimpsonso, yes, you can14:05
CoyotesI'm trying to figure out a way to make a game engine that people can use for their GPL stuff, but lets commercial people make money on server's content.14:06
tsimpsonthere are products out there that have both "free" and "commercial" licenses14:06
CoyotesIt's a horrible ballance14:06
tsimpsonit's totally possible, your code/product, your terms14:06
CoyotesTempted to recommend that someone use just one license...14:07
CoyotesI recommended they check on the status of having a modular system...  The game engine is just a module loader that includes 95% of the game.14:08
CoyotesThe physics, etc.14:08
CoyotesServer backend14:08
Coyotesand so on14:08
tsimpsonas long as the license says you can do something, you can do it14:08
CoyotesBut the graphics, levels, monsters, and such are a file that you load.14:08
tsimpsonso you can say that someone can develop closed-source/proprietary parts if they have a commercial license14:09
CoyotesI called it "abstraction"14:09
CoyotesMeaning like playing a music file.14:09
CoyotesYou don't give MS license just because you used Word!14:09
CoyotesProtocol14:10
CoyotesYou publically implement the protocol.14:10
CoyotesAnd stick to it14:10
tsimpsonexcept MS don't stick to it ;)14:10
CoyotesYeah that sucks14:10
CoyotesInnovation my a**14:10
Coyotesthat's just a money grab14:10
CoyotesXML14:11
CoyotesMS Java :P14:11
CoyotesSun said:  SMACK, No!14:11
CoyotesAnd who can forget memory-mapped file saving?14:12
tsimpsondeveloping a specification/protocol is different from developing actual code though, but working out the differences license-wise make you head spin14:12
CoyotesCan you say glitchy?14:12
CoyotesYeah probably better to make the game and addons... then document and show an example implementation once it's popular.14:13
tsimpsonthe spec can be defined by the implementation too14:13
CoyotesQEMU had something like that?14:13
CoyotesOr that...14:13
Coyoteshaha14:13
CoyotesMS 'undocumented' documentation.14:14
CoyotesAKA Stuff that everyone has to know yet oddly MS denies the very existance of that 800-pound gorrila.14:14
tsimpsonthat's how we got samba, most MS devs didn't actually understand the inner workings of SMB, so they asked the samba devs to write some docs14:15
Coyoteshaha14:15
kozhi there!, can someone help me... i try to install compiz for kde 3.514:15

OxDeadC0des/kernal/kernel =O17:28
perlsyntax_0xDeadC0de, How long take to boot up on the cd?17:28
OxDeadC0deperlsyntax_: depends on your cd-roms speed and your computers speed.. about 1 minute for me..17:28
perlsyntax_ok17:28
CedricWoStoSo if anybody have an idea how to fix that or at least restart keyboard or mouse without restarting x1117:28
BluesKajOxDeadC0de, yeah, but the kernerl source drivers are replacing the need for ndiswrapper and wifi card drivers ..there some exceptions but I havent encountered any yet17:29
perlsyntax_gnome is fast on my laptop17:29
perlsyntax_i know that17:29
OxDeadC0deBluesKaj: very true, and the longer we wait the better it gets =)17:29
BluesKajOxDeadC0de, agreed ;)17:30
perlsyntax_it a old ibm thinkpad R50e17:30
OxDeadC0deI however still use ndiswrapper for my broadcom card.. it's been about 1 yr since I last used the native driver, which had performance issues back then (was a lot slower)17:30
OxDeadC0debut I'm not ussing 9.04 yet even17:30
perlsyntax_man still loading.17:31
perlsyntax_:O17:31
OxDeadC0deperlsyntax_: running off cd is slow by nature17:31
perlsyntax_Then why gnome faster.17:32
perlsyntax_i see what happons.17:32
BluesKajOxDeadC0de, I have to use a windows driver for our bedroom karmic box, which has a belkin F5D8053 USB wifi adapter17:32
OxDeadC0deBluesKaj: not supported in linux yet?17:33
geniiperlsyntax_: How much RAM is in that thinkpad?17:33
perlsyntax_60017:33
OxDeadC0de600? what an odd number..17:33
genii512 + 96 or something?17:33
geniiOr maybe 600Mhz is the CPU17:34
perlsyntax_but it still loading maybe go back to gnome.17:34
BluesKajwell, it's strange , it ran ok with ndiswrapper with network manager on jaunty, but karmic wouldn't work unless I use wicd17:34
OxDeadC0deif the cpu is 600mhz I'd use fluxbox personally17:34
geniiperlsyntax_: If not enough RAM it will hang forever17:34
BluesKajOxDeadC0de, wicd sees the driver , but network manager on karmic doesn't17:35
OxDeadC0deBluesKaj: very odd, did you ask about it in #plasma or create a bug report for them?17:35
=== clayton is now known as Guest1744
perlsyntax_how much ram do i need17:36
BluesKajno OxDeadC0de I just chalked it up to the fact that it's an USB adapter card on a pc ...how many ppl use wifi on desktops17:37
OxDeadC0deBluesKaj: good point but imo it should be able to support it, if it doesn't, sounds like a bug (laptops have usb too)17:37
OxDeadC0deand if the old version of the same applet supported it sounds like some regression going on17:38
BluesKajOxDeadC0de, i'm too lazy to file a bug report, besides i havent tried network manager for quite a while , and it might work now after all the updates etc17:38
OxDeadC0deic17:38
BluesKajso many ppl trying linux on old machines it seems ...that's how I got hooked :)17:39
BluesKajI installed breezy on a 233mhz/128Ram/6G hdd pc and it was a bit slow but worked well just the same17:41
BluesKajwell, time for my daily walk ...bb in an hr17:42
OxDeadC0delol I have 9.04 installed on a ~200mhz/128/10G hdd, but I had to install xubuntu-desktop (kde was just to slow for the people that use it)17:42
sczgilaeHI! i have this code http://pastebin.com/d5f402f7f   in /etc/profile to put some shortcuts on the users desktop depends of the language they choose but in /etc/profile doesnt run. If i run manually everything is ok. i supose that when /etc/profile executes the Desktop directory dont exist still .17:46
