davmor2zul: is it an official test?14:00
zuldavmor2: yes its UpgradeServer there is a page for it already but its not on the tracker14:01
zuland the test needs to be updated14:02
davmor2zul: things like that will be better asked on #ubuntu-testing where it will be seen by the right people I'll fire it off over there for you now14:03
zulk thanks14:03
zulill go over there as well14:03
dconlonHi just installed Karmic and can't boot with an xorg.conf file in place. Known issue?14:16
davmor2dconlon: Why do you need an xorg.conf file?14:21
dconlonI don't. It is a fresh install of karmic from the beta, there is an xorg.conf there. If I delete it I can boot into X, then if I reboot it doesnt work as something has created it again.14:23
Omar87Hi all.14:24
Omar87 I have a problem with Karmic, it keeps crashing and logging out.14:24
Omar87Can anybody please help me??14:25
Omar87anyone?14:25
dconlon@davmor2 I have a recovery console on the box now to help debug this issue. Three other people here in my office have the same issue. All the same hardware, Dell machines with intel onboard and ati cards in the pciexpress slots.14:26
davmor2dconlon: pass, I'm afraid.  Seems very odd though.14:27
dconlon@davmor2 there a better place to go to get help?14:28
davmor2dconlon: Have you had a look for a bug on launchpad yet?  second to that try #ubuntu+114:29
dconlon@davmor2 looked and there are a few bugs that look the same but all are reported as closed.14:30
dconlonthe info in launchpad bugs is at best 'confused'14:30
davmor2dconlon: The best thing to do then is try #ubuntu+114:31
dconlon@davmor2 cheers14:31
davmor2dconlon: this might help https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Debugging14:31
Omar87Can someone help me please?14:33
Omar87 I have a problem with Karmic, it keeps crashing and logging out.14:33
Omar87The problem seems to be between my Radeon graphics card and Kernel 2.6.3114:34
Omar87I'm not sure how to solve it, some people here told me to upgrade kernel 2.6.32, but I don't know how to do that safely.14:35
Omar87Can anyone here please help me?14:35
dconlon@davmor2 Ok I have exhausted ubuntu+1 and the X debugging guide; any other destinations?14:58
davmor2dconlon: you have run dist-upgrade on this box I'm assuming?14:59
dconlonyeah14:59
dconlonlogging in remotely seems to show the X-server spinning at 100% cpu15:00
dconloncan't get much out of it15:00
dconlon@davmor2 back to Jaunty for me, cheers for the help15:03
davmor2dconlon: you could try a live desktop of the latest iso15:03
davmor2http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/15:04
davmor2dconlon: try that see if live runs correctly15:04
dconlonThe live cd works fine, but an install doesn't15:04
wild_oscarhey! does bug triage only happens on thursdays? I am the original poster of bug 456238 and want to help out in whichever way I can15:05
wild_oscar(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/postfix/+bug/456238 )15:05
ubot4wild_oscar: Error: Could not parse data returned by Launchpad: The read operation timed out15:05
ubot4Launchpad bug 456238 in postfix "empty message-id, no date in Evolution MUA" [Undecided,Incomplete]15:05
davmor2dconlon: there shouldn't be any difference.  Oh hang on are  you enabling the fglrx drivers?15:06
dconlon@davmor2: I tried that during one reboot. Are there known issues with the fglrx drivers?15:07
dconlon@davmor2 The issues seems to be independent though, but related to the fact I have the onboard intel card and an ati card15:09
davmor2dconlon: Is the intel card completely disabled in the bios?15:09
dconlon@davmor2: The junk-y dell bios has two options 'auto' - which says it uses the add-in card only and another option that seems to try the add-in card first then fall back15:11
dconlon@davmor2 it is currently set to auto, and the output is initially coming out of the ati card. It briefly shows the ubuntu logo but then 'fades to black'15:12
davmor2dconlon: Ah and then no xsplash or gdm?15:13
dconlon@davmor2 Yes that would be it15:14
davmor2dconlon: boot up keeping your finger on shift.  When the grub menu comes up hit e on the ubuntu entry.  Try removing the word splash and the hit ctrl-x15:16
dconlon@davmor2 Ok having done this, I get the same.15:18
davmor2dconlon: what shows up in the terminal now?15:19
dconlon@davmor2 I'm currently looking at a blank screen, can't change to a VT either15:19
davmor2dconlon: That sounds like a bug I thought was fixed.15:20
dconlon@davmor2 From the recovery console earlier I did an apt-get update then apt-get upgrade, it shows no further updates15:21
davmor2dconlon: in devel releases always use dist-upgrade it will mode config files that could be the issue15:22
dconlon@davmor2 Shall try that, 1 sec15:22
davmor2dconlon: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade15:23
dconlon@davmor2 That has no effect as there are no packages to upgrade15:25
davmor2dconlon: try asking on #ubuntu-devel (they might help but are very busy).15:27
dconlon@davmor2 Do you know which bug number you think this looks like?15:28
davmor2dconlon: not of hand no15:29

shankhshttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-center/+bug/457001 is a geniune bug and can be easily seen.Is anyone working on it?18:29
shankhsCan I confirm it?18:29
ubot4shankhs: Error: Could not parse data returned by Launchpad: The read operation timed out18:30
shankhsis anybody home?18:30
greg-gshankhs: if A) you did not report the bug and B) you can rerpduce the issue then yes, you can confirm it18:33
greg-gshankhs: and you can tell if anyone is working on the bug or not by the status of the bug, in this case, it appears not (and it was only reported 9 hours ago, btw)18:34
shankhsgreg-g: I was able to reproduce it . Actually the bug can be seen(!) by anybody, its a translation bug.18:34
greg-gshankhs: not for me as I don't have that locale installed, but yes, it is easy to confirm18:35
shankhsgreg-g: I am kinda new to this business so pardon me if I am asking too much...18:36
greg-gshankhs: no problem18:36
hggdhshankhs: BTW, whenever you change the status of a bug, please add a comment on why you did it. This helps later on18:38
shankhshggdh: yeah I am currently writing it18:38
hggdhthank you18:38
shankhsthere are some bugs which say the some app(say app ABC) crashes the OS.How do you reproduce such bugs?18:54
shankhsdo you take chances or use some another system(not the work system as it may contain important stuffs) to do such testing.18:55
=== maxb_ is now known as maxb
greg-gshankhs: you can install virtualbox, which enables you to run a "Virtual Machine" on your computer so you don't lose information/crash your real system19:03
shankhsgreg-g: ok tahnx19:04
shankhs*thanx19:04
shankhsIs requesting for a feature also considered as a bug?!19:10
shankhsrefer to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/45660519:10
ubot4shankhs: Error: Could not parse data returned by Launchpad: The read operation timed out19:11
greg-gshankhs: it is a bug, and should be marked as "wishlist" if it is a feature request. Also, most importantly, it should be forwarded upstream to the actual developers of the software19:17
shankhsgreg-g: thats great thanx greg-g once again but how to forward to the upstream developer?19:18
greg-gshankhs: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME is a good example (and is applicable to empathy)19:22
greg-gshankhs: also, there is a ton of documentation here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/HowToTriage19:22
shankhsactually i found that bug : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/456605 is duplicate of  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/304889 ... so was little curious19:23

shankhswell thanx i will read them19:23
