claydohJontheEchidna: ScottK Riddell, any known issues for Karmic rc that need to be added to the wiki? I can't think of any02:27

ScottKclaydoh: I asked the Ayatana folks for an input.  They said they'd have something in the morning tomorrow.02:31
claydohwow what a mouthfull ;)02:32
ScottKYeah, that's to LP and it's compact URLs.02:32
ScottKclaydoh: The ext4 corruption bug is really important because that's the default disk format02:33
claydohScottK: so bug #43238402:37
ubottuLaunchpad bug 432384 in ubuntu-release-notes "DontZap is now an option in XKB" [Undecided,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/43238402:37

ubottuLaunchpad bug 256245 in packagekit "Kubuntu GUI package manager does not warn if packages are unsigned" [High,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/25624502:38
ScottKAlthough the actual notes need work.02:38
claydohand then #33082402:38
ScottKclaydoh: The OOo one is Bug 45251802:40
ubottuError: Could not parse data returned by Launchpad: The read operation timed out (https://launchpad.net/bugs/452518)02:41
claydohScottK: the ext4 bug is still valid for Karmic?02:42
ScottKThat may not be the right one.  Let me check02:42
claydohlaunchpad is not being kind tonight02:44
ScottKclaydoh: Wrong bug.02:44
ScottKSorry about that.02:44
claydohfound the right one02:44
ScottKclaydoh: 45357902:45
ScottK439357 isn't so great either.02:46
ScottKReading 453579 to the end is a bit scary02:50
* JontheEchidna hasn't trusted /home to ext4 yet03:01
claydohmy lappy currently has everything on one ext4 partition03:02
claydohbut that is temporary03:03
ScottKMy netbook has ext4, but I don't put anything on that I care about.03:10
ScottKWhen I installed my daughter's new netbook last night, I used ext3.03:10
JontheEchidnaIf / gets fried due to ext4, I do have /home on a separate partition and I'll only have to reinstall03:16

jjesseoh well /me beds03:38
JontheEchidnaSo it looks like kubuntu-grub-splashimages totally does not work with grub203:41
JontheEchidnait's never been terribly well maintained-- anybody want to adopt it or should I file a removal bug?03:41
JontheEchidnaScottK: is bug 445529 a dupe of the one that was fixed?03:48
ubottuLaunchpad bug 445529 in ubuntu "Internet Icon Disappeared From Kubuntu Netbook Panel After Update" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/44552903:48
* ScottK looks03:48
ScottKJontheEchidna: Yep.03:50
ScottKJontheEchidna: I just duped it.03:51
JontheEchidnacool, thanks03:51
lex79I think there is nobody who wants to take care of kubuntu-grub-splashimage package, really we don't care about much of default splash even :P03:54
* ScottK votes for removal03:55
* lex79 +103:55
ScottKOf course I tend to favor removals anyway.03:56
* ScottK has ~ half a dozen pending right now03:56
lex79I forgotten that I reported this: bug 44338603:58
JontheEchidnaremoval it is03:58
ubottuError: Could not parse data returned by Launchpad: The read operation timed out (https://launchpad.net/bugs/443386)03:58
lex79ubottu :(03:59
JontheEchidnaLP's been doing that a lot this week03:59
ScottKlex79: LP has been slow all day (even more than usual)03:59
JontheEchidnayeah, today especially04:00
lex79I realized :)04:00
JontheEchidnaI must say most of the FTBFS fixes I've done this cycle are removal requests04:03
JontheEchidnaKDE3 didn't fare too well during the rebuild, hopefully we'll see a removal of the ancient ones that fail from debian04:04
ScottKThey are freezing in March for Squeeze, so that should help.04:05
shtylman8 days till I format my computer again... :)04:47
shtylmanno slideshow for kubuntu this cycle though :(05:01
shtylmanwill have to tackle that next cycle...05:01
superm1are you guys using upstart for starting kdm nowadays?05:41
superm1Cool thanks05:46
superm1i'm wondering why ubiquity still has support for only-ubiquity mode w/ non-upstart scenarios05:46
superm1xubuntu, mythbuntu, ubuntu, kubuntu all use upstart login managers then05:47
superm1and i think i just hit a race condition bug from having both05:47
agateauScottK: I want to make some screenshot of the Ayatana work,08:21
agateauShould I set up my desktop to default settings or is it ok to have a custom wallpaper for example?08:21
ScottKagateau: We generally like to show stuff off with default Kubuntu look in the screen shots.  Just make a new user.08:24
agateauScottK: ok08:24
MamarokRiddell: you around?10:22
MamarokI have a problem with the Qt folders...10:23
Mamarokwhich is there since I installed your K3b to test, can't build Amarok anymore now10:24
MamarokI have a whole folder missing (or rather a symlink): /usr/include/qt4/phonon/ is there, but I should also have /usr/include/qt4/Qt/ which is missing10:29
RiddellMamarok: what version of qt do you have?10:30
Mamarokwhat's the command again to print that out? Should be 4.5.2, no?10:32
Mamarokthis is a plain Karmic installation, I didn't add any other Qt, only a local Amarok install from git10:33
Riddellapt-cache policy libqt4-phonon-dev10:34
Mamarokkarmic main packages10:34
RiddellMamarok: full version no?10:35
Mamarokthat's the output: http://pastebin.com/d711078c910:36
Riddellmm, that's the one from my PPA10:37
RiddellMamarok: can you pastebin  dpkg -L libqt4-phonon-dev10:37
Mamarokhere you go: http://pastebin.com/df42e5f10:38
RiddellMamarok: mm well the phonon headers have indeed changed quite a bit there10:41
Mamarokbad, I can't compile Amarok anymore now10:42
RiddellMamarok: phonon headers are a mess, the trolls keep changing where they say they should be10:42
Riddellwith literally every release10:42
RiddellMamarok: that's the 4.5.3 package you were testing for me so I guess we could declaire the test failed and we'll go with 4.5.2 in karmic10:43
RiddellMamarok: in which case you can disable my PPA in sources.list and try to force a downgrade to 4.5.210:44
Mamarokok, will try that10:44
RiddellMamarok: downgrades are tricky, you'll probably need to wget the 4.5.2 files .deb files from https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qt4-x11 and dpkg --install *deb10:45
Mamarokor do a fresh install, since my /home is on a separate partition anyway :)10:46
RiddellMamarok: I hear there is a release candidate coming out today :)10:47
Mamarokoh, good news, so I can test that at the same time :)10:47
RiddellMamarok: presumably our 4.5.3 package has the phonon headers where they are because that's where Qt has put them for this release, so something in Amarok or KDE probably does need to be changed to look for them there10:48
Mamarokseems so, but that whole Phonon stuff is a mess anyway, since there are two phonons, a KDE and a Qt one10:48
Riddelland when even thiago doesn't know the correct location for header files, you know it's a mess10:49
MamarokRiddell: I guess what is up currently already is the RC, right?10:55
RiddellMamarok: yes10:58
jussi01got my first fsck on karmic today... looks like an issue to me : http://imagebin.ca/view/0LY2kR.html11:24

MamarokRiddell: we should propose a "complete KDE experience DVD iso", takes ages to get all packages back when you reinstall :(16:24
Mamarokghostcube: no, I don't like it, neither, and my avatar has gone :(16:24

Mamarokthat's the last thing you just said :)16:26
ghostcubehehe yeah i just recognized it16:27
Mamarokit looks cleaned up at first sight, but one has to search more to find stuff now16:27
ghostcubesearching packages and the details for a package need to be clicked thats not logically :D16:28
RiddellMamarok: what are you missing?16:29
Mamarokwell, the columns are not resizale, so my wiki name overlaps to the next column (see my profile), then my avatar has gone16:31
Mamarokbut I'm on edge, could be that16:31
Mamarokthe "Participation field takes away space and is not really necessary since there are the links on top, and it's too big a font16:32
ScottKLaunchpad is much more javascripty than it used to be and the JS library they picked doesn't seem to be very Konqueror friendly.16:32
Mamarokthe links on top had a color bar, that is gone, too16:33

stikonaspackagekit in Kubuntu Karmic is still not working, isn't it?17:22
Riddellstikonas: yes it is17:22
ScottKIt works to the extent it is designed to.  Some of us are more and some less satisfied with that.17:23
RiddellMamarok: I mean what are you missing from a "complete KDE experience DVD"?17:35
MamarokRiddell: well, all the apps in main that are not in there by default, as well as koffice17:35
Mamarokthe games, edu packs, etc17:35
ScottKRiddell: I think a DVD metapackage to install it all.17:35
Mamarokall KDE :)17:35
Mamarokthere still is the old koffice in main, and the new one in universe, a bit strange, no?17:36
ScottKMamarok: Not strange.  That's what upstream requested.17:37
Mamarokthat made sense back when it was not release, but since it now is...17:37
Riddellit's just yet another bit of KDE 4 transition pain.  they don't want 2.0 to be in main17:38
Mamarokanyway, the live CD installs a tiny bit of what KDE is only, so offering a DVD iso would be nice17:39
Riddellwe do have a DVD iso17:39
Riddellwhich includes all of the KDE main modules (except kdewebdev and kdetoys)17:39
Mamarokoh, now I look stupid, didn't even know that :)17:39
Riddellit's not well publicised, I think most people don't want to download 4GB to get an OS installed17:40
MamarokI don't mind, since an iso is down in a few minutes here, so 4 Gb is not that much more17:41
MamarokI think we should talk about it more often17:41
Riddellour sysadmins hate it because it eats up so much bandwidth17:44

dpmhey apachelogger, the kubuntu-firefox-installer translations have all been imported. Due to a bug in LP (can't find it right now) when you export translations in a tarball they get named templatename-ll.po (where ll is the language code). In fact, they should be named just ll.po, because if they are then uploaded as templatename-ll.po the auto-approver script has a hard time figuring out the language they should be imported in. So it's best to rename18:08
dpmall files to the appropriate ll.po langcode before a manual tarball upload. I manually approved all of them and I see only 3 of them still need to be imported, so we should be good to go.18:08

ubottuKDE bug 211357 in kbluetoothd "kbluetooth crashed sending clipboard text to bluetooth device" [Crash,Assigned] http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21135719:26
JontheEchidnaRiddell: yes, I think scottk might have as well19:26
apacheloggerreal work19:26
JontheEchidnaRiddell: testcase: set folderview to /, hover over /lost+found19:26
JontheEchidnacrashes plasma with the patch, doesn't without the patch19:27
apacheloggerapparently that real work stuff doesnt work out19:27
* apachelogger goes back to thinking19:27
JontheEchidnaah, dammit. I forgot to look into fixing userconfig l10n19:27
ScottKapachelogger: Update mlt/kdenlive?19:28
ScottKTonio was going to, but never got to it apparently19:28
Riddellapachelogger: write a main inclusion report for openjpeg to give poppler decent jpeg2000 support19:28
apacheloggerthere you have it19:29
apacheloggerlp needs a team management solution19:29
apacheloggerjonny forgot to fix l10n, tonio did not get to update mlt/kdenlive and we are in constant need of MIR but no one ever feels like it19:30
JontheEchidnaputzing around investigating the darkroom ftbfs due to rosetta setup cost an evening, that's for sure. (It probably would have been too late even then though...)19:31
JontheEchidnagranted the bug was in the app's messages.sh script, but it's in universe19:32
RiddellI'm going for a canoe, if the announce comes through on ubuntu-devel-announce feel free to push the kubuntu.org story19:33
* JontheEchidna can't, since the pass doesn't work for him anymore19:36
apachelogger+1 even19:37
ScottKJontheEchidna: I can do it.19:42
JontheEchidnaScottK: I'm about to push the kdebluetooth patch to my ppa, would you be able to test (I think you have a bluetooth device?)19:43
JontheEchidnabug 45725519:43

JontheEchidnaapachelogger: bug 418342 might be real work20:02
ubottuLaunchpad bug 418342 in mysql-dfsg-5.1 "akonadi-server prevents install of mysql-server-5.0" [Low,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/41834220:02
apacheloggerwho did that20:03
JontheEchidnathe problem is that there's no good way of knowing what needs done20:07
JontheEchidnathe bug tracker obviously fails at that20:08
apacheloggerstupid malone20:08
apacheloggerJontheEchidna: go read the comments20:08
apacheloggerlazy lad he is20:08
apacheloggerJontheEchidna: fix in the pipeline20:11
apacheloggerlook at that20:11
apacheloggerJontheEchidna caused the bug :P20:11
apachelogger  * Make akonadi-server depend on mysql-server-core-5.1 rather than the whole20:11
apachelogger    mysql-server package20:11
JontheEchidnahmm, oops20:11
* JontheEchidna was speaking more in general about "nobody knows what needs to be done"20:12
=== dendrobates is now known as dendro-afk
apacheloggerJontheEchidna: well, that is why lp needs work force management stuff20:13
apacheloggernot all triaged bugs necessarily require attention of the whole team20:13
apacheloggeryet some do at a larger scale than others, which still do require larger attention but not as large...20:13
apacheloggeri.e. you need a way to manage the resources and help to distribute spent time20:14
jjesseespecially for someone who does not have a lot of time to comitt to working on bugs or the best knowledge to triage them like me20:14
apacheloggerjust uploaded akonadi20:18
apacheloggerScottK: akonadi in queue20:18
ScottKapachelogger: I can reject it if you want?20:19
apacheloggerJontheEchidna may direct all attention to getting it out of the queue because he disrupted me while answering mails20:19
apacheloggerScottK: no, it needs to get in20:19
apacheloggerI just wanted to file an exception request20:19
apacheloggerI can live without one :P20:19
ScottKOK.  I can't accept it since it's in Main.20:19
ScottKRiddell can do it when he gets back.20:20
zoraelShould wishlist entries for the new knetworkmanager go to the kubuntu-devel mailing list? Launchpad seems difficult to post to without using ubuntu-bug.20:25
JontheEchidnazorael: preferrably to bugs.kde.org\20:26
ScottKHey look: We got a powerpc Live CD and only a little oversized: http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/ports/daily-live/current/20:36

JontheEchidnatesters for kdebluetooth wanted: https://launchpad.net/~echidnaman/+archive/ppa20:56
JontheEchidnatestcase: try to send clipboard contents to your bluetooth device, if it doesn't crash the fix works20:57
zoraelJontheEchidna: can't tell if the clipboard content was actually transfered (target device doesn't support it), but the app didn't crash21:19
RiddellScottK: thanks for publishing the story21:29
RiddellJontheEchidna: the website passwords havn't changed, but it only works using konqueror21:29
ScottKRiddell: No problem.  Glad the password worked.21:29
JontheEchidnathat's... interesting, to say the least21:30
JontheEchidnausually it's the other way around21:30
RiddellI've no idea why it is, maybe the sysadmin team were implementing Kubuntu themed security through obscurity21:32
JontheEchidnacould I get a sponsor for bug 457255?21:32
ubottuLaunchpad bug 457255 in kdebluetooth "kbluetooth crashed in QBasicAtomicInt::ref() sending clipboard contents to device" [Medium,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/45725521:32
RiddellJontheEchidna: sure21:38
debfxScottK: so what do you think about the updated patch? the fix for the MSI Wind seems to work21:43
ScottKdebfx: Got tied up with work.  Didn't get a chance to try it.21:43
Riddellarmel build of kdebase-runtime 4:4.3.2-0ubuntu3  hmm22:18
Riddellooh our first bit of feedback "+ * Very good release."22:43
JontheEchidnaThat's always nice :)23:05
* JontheEchidna will bet 5 internets that usrlp will go to the feedback page and beg for KPackageKit 0.5 before final release23:05
stikonasbtw, why kubuntu 9.10RC shipped with broken KPackageKit? I can fix it for myself, but many less advanced testers won't be able to easily update23:20
ScottKstikonas: What's broken that's fixable?23:21
ScottKdebfx: I'm test building now.23:21
stikonasit doesn't work for me at all because of some syntax errors in /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/aptBackend.py23:22
stikonasI had to comment out lines 52-5623:22
stikonasam I the only one experiencing this?23:23
ScottKstikonas: Would you please pastebin what you have there23:24
stikonasScottK: http://pastebin.ca/163865223:25
stikonasthese are errors from packagekitd --verbose23:26
ScottKstikonas: What happens if you add import socket near the top of the file?23:26
stikonasit is already there23:27
* ScottK looks some more23:27
macostikonas: are you saying you know how to patch it?23:28
ScottKDamn.  Packagekit is 8 megabytes of fail.  It'll be a little while where I am now.23:28
stikonasI've just commented out those lines that generate errors23:28
stikonasit seems that they do some logging23:28
macoso not actually fixed the errors23:28
ScottKAt this point it might be an acceptable workaround.23:30
macois the problem that logs are being spammed or that its breaking?23:30
ScottKPackagekit download is proceeding at roughly 5% the speed of dialup.23:30
ScottKYeah broadband.23:30
ScottKCould be the Canonical data center is slammed too.23:31
stikonasmaco: kpackagekit refuses to do anything at all, it just exits silently23:31
macohow does commenting out logging help?23:31
stikonaseverything seems to work, because apt backend doesn't exit with error23:32
ScottKGotta run.  Will have to look at it later.23:48
stikonasAnd I have to sleep, will return tommorow23:50
