Sysii wonder how that can be done in karmic09:24
heyjoehi, i'm trying to boot live cd of xubuntu 9.04, starts loading for a while and then blinking caps lock (i assume kernel panic), this happened after i used partimage to backup and then restore an ntfs partition, my best guess is that there is no free space left on my ext3 partition, although don't know why this would affect it, what should i do to get it to boot the live cd?09:49
Sysianything on har disc shouldn't affect booting on live cd09:51
Sysihave you get to disc menu?09:51
heyjoeit's odd though, i'll try recreate the live cd09:52
heyjoei get to the first menu that usually comes up (i'm able to select appropriate language) is that the one you're referring to?09:52
heyjoehit return return to boot live but then kernel panic after a while09:52
Sysino, the one where are installin and testing without it etc options09:53

Sysithe driver changes or isn't compatible with new kernel maybe10:41
benchiktried to google for it, but saw only suggestions to run some also installation script. i prefer not to run external installation scripts since the might mess up xubuntu's packages system10:41

Gratz474is 9.10 out yet?19:18
_Pete_no19:20
Sysirc is19:20
Gratz474ah19:20
Gratz474Sysi, i am running the ubuntu 9.10 right now19:20
Sysime too :)19:21
_Pete_I am not going to upgrade anytime soon19:21
Gratz474i was thinking of maybe giving the xubuntu a try cause of the compositor19:21
_Pete_and not even reboot, since this 9.04 is extreamly stable19:21
Gratz474i have heard its better then the one in ubuntu (meta city) and compiz19:21
Sysii like xfce more, effects also19:22
Gratz474is there effects?19:22
Gratz474i thought it was just a window shadow19:22
Gratz474i didn't think the compositor really did effects19:22
Sysiwell, opacity19:23
Sysino animations19:23
Gratz474yea compiz runs as smooth as butter here19:24
Gratz474but19:24
Gratz474when i enable it, my firefox browsing maybe gets 10 percent more non smooth19:24
Gratz474less smooth19:24
Gratz474still perfectly usable though19:24
Gratz474the metacity compositor makes it a little bit better, but i have heard xfce has the best compositer there is19:25
Gratz474so maybe i could get some shadows etc and full 100 percent firefox speeds19:25
Gratz474just a guess anyways19:26
Gratz474maybe not19:26
Gratz474Sysi, think it would make any difference? hehe19:27

jarmendaGot a bit of an issue to inquire on. Xubuntu 9.10 at the moment. All is well until today and I get an update for adobe-flash. I go through the motions to update it. It then pauses at DPKG then it seems to bomb out.23:29
jarmendaE: /var/cache/apt/archives/adobe-flashplugin_10.0.32.18-1karmic1_i386.deb: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 223:29
jarmendaUninstalling it and installing it from Adobe.com nop joy either.23:30
knomejarmenda, are you familiar with terminal?23:31
jarmendaI can certainly get by ... sure23:32
knomejarmenda, okay. what does 'sudo apt-get check' in terminal say?23:32
jarmendastand by23:33
jarmendaE: The package adobe-flashplugin needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.23:34
knomejarmenda, okay. try doing 'sudo apt-get update' and check after that again23:34
jarmendaAlrighty. Stand by.23:34
jarmendaDid the check. Same thing.23:35
knomeokay. just a moment.23:36
jarmendaNo worries  :-)23:36
knomejarmenda, hmm. try to uninstall the package (sudo apt-get remove --purge adobe-flashplugin) and install flashplugin-nonfree instead23:37
jarmendaHmmmm. Didn't think of that. Stand by.23:38
jarmendaclear23:38
jarmendaE: The package adobe-flashplugin needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.23:39
jarmendaSame thing I'm afraid.23:39
jarmendaNow I do mouse over the update icon and mentions something about possible unmet dependencies.23:40
jarmendaProblem is that what those dependencies are it doesn't say (that I can find).23:41
