MamarokTheKro: sorry, I don't get that, populated?07:54

TheKroMamarok: e.g. if my application be able to use the $USER environment variable, would it be an empty string, or the user's name07:56
TheKros/be able/were07:56
MamarokTheKro: that's not a question I can answer, you might want to check that with a developer. It's up to you to decide which variables your application will use normaly, so I guess it depends on what you write in your code07:58

MamarokTheKro: well, then you launch it from that terminal to have that particular env variables08:02
Mamarokdefault is .bashrc08:03
MamarokTheKro: for GUI apps you usally set the variables in ~/.kde/env/myenv.sh08:05
TheKroMamarok: that's the default for a terminal in Konsole (since Konsole runs a bash shell), but is it the default for menu items08:06

EagleScreenshayna: the kde4 plasmoid for networkmanager in jaunty is buggy as hell13:11
shaynaI see13:11
EagleScreenit is "normally" that it to cannot connect to a wpa13:11
shaynaBecause it worked great in 8.113:11
EagleScreenbecause 8.10 used KDE3 version i think13:11
shaynaI updated that to the kde 413:12
shaynamy boyfriend is at work and I don't want to have to call him13:12
EagleScreen8.10 used KDE4 Desktop, but kde3 applet for networkmanager13:12
shaynaohhhhhh13:12
shaynais that supposed to be resolved in 9.1?13:13
BluesKaj!info wicd | shayna13:13

frozenfoxxQuick question16:50
frozenfoxxShould I look at using the Kubuntu NetBook Remix RC or is it just not worth it at this time for a non-developer and should I instead try to cram the full-blown desktop Kubuntu 9.10 into my netbook16:50
amikI have the same dilemma. anyone?16:51
frozenfoxxI mean, NBR seems pretty functional but I read something about it not really being ready.  I was wondering a bit more about that16:52
amikiirc the kubuntu news page says that the NBR as far as KDE is concerned is not yet a release, but the kubuntu team will cram it into a kubuntu release anyway16:53
amikit sounds like it'll basically work, but probably still have some issues and annoyances16:54
frozenfoxxIt seems to be okay on my notoriously-hard 1101HA so it can't be too bad.  I wonder how bad it would be trying to get the standard KDE 4 desktop working okay on the netbook with the smaller screen16:55
claydohrun nbr from a flash drive and see how it is16:55
amikyou can easily try - aiui they're just different 'desktop' packages, u can install/uninstall as u please without having to wipe the disk or anything16:56
frozenfoxxHmm, could you actually just install the kde-desktop package on a NBR image and switch between the two?16:56
frozenfoxxThat'd probably make me happiest16:56
frozenfoxxI just didn't know how tightly NBR was tied into the other package dependencies16:57
amikmaybe they can even coexist with both options in the login menu? I'm guessing here...16:57
macosure16:57
macopretty sure some of the devs do that16:57
geniicarpii_: I don't use Bacula but i hear it can backup your hd to for instance a set of CD/DVD16:57
carpii_ok thanks16:58
frozenfoxxThen I think I'll give that a shot as I really like the NBR direction Kubuntu's taken (honestly I like it a *lot* more than the Ubuntu NBR philosophy) but it'd be nice to have the regular desktop to fall back on if it all goes fubar16:58
linexhello16:58

frozenfoxxThanks for the thoughts, everyone, I'll give it a shot here and let you know how it works16:58
linexAnyone here running on raid 1 ?16:58
carpii_luckybackup is one, but i might just use rsync once the vm is ready16:58
amikfrozenfoxx: good luck :-) if it works, I'll probably do the same.16:58
frozenfoxxamik: I'll make sure to hang out in here during the work day for the rest of the week while I try it out, just message me if you want to know how it's going16:59

benjamin_inrain: if it doesn't show up in dolphin though, i don't think it's mounted22:28
dmattinrain: if it is not empty media, it should pop up in Device Notifier, there you can click on it and it opens in Dolphin22:29
inrainbenjamin_ ok. I just upgraded. if thats the case, i'm gonna try to fix it tomorrow coz its past midnight in finland :=22:30
dmattinrain: and when you finish, you unmount it again in Device notifier (it is the same process as happens with USB keys and you should do it)22:30
