candrewsUbuntu seems to really like VM technologies, and unfortunately, VMWare is a big one. open-vm-tools is a Free replacement for the vmware tools suite - it's even made by vmware.14:39
candrewsCan we get the packaging fixed, so it's usable? https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/open-vm-tools/+bug/27755614:39

Richard1989Hey, i'm trying to compile the kernel but i get the message that a 'module' can't be built-in cause it depents on some other module. Is there any documentation out there which could specify which module that would be?18:25
jbarneslooks like /sbin/installkernel is still broken in karmic18:36
jbarnesI thought it had been fixed18:36
* jbarnes is sad18:36
* apw gives jbarnes a hug18:49
jbarnesapw: I take it you don't use "make install" for quick kernel testing?18:49
apwjbarnes, nope generally not18:49
apwbut most of my testing is carried out by other people, as i don't have the bust h/w18:50
jbarnesyeah18:50
jbarnesI guess I'll file an lp for it18:50
apwits a bit poor if its broken tho.18:50
apwyeah subscribe me to it if you would18:50
apwjbarnes, so these gpu hags which we don't find in the driver ... could we add a thread to watch over it?18:51
jbarnesthat's kind of what we do already, but apparently we don't catch all the conditions18:52
apwahh ok ...18:54
jbarnesthere was an existing report for installkernel marked fixed, so I reopened18:57
alexis_(i saw on linux tv wiki that :  " Some "broken" devices where sold with cold id: 0547:2235 . You will need to enable CONFIG_DVB_USB_DIBUSB_MB_FAULTY in the kernel .config to catch those.20:35
