Turtle_Hi, it seems that I have found a bug in the kernel related to my Ralink RT61PCI wifi card. Here are some logs http://paste.ubuntu.com/305551/ and kernel logs http://paste.ubuntu.com/305556/. I'm also filling a bug report as we speak :(02:55
AppiahI upgraded to Karmic and my network support is gone, both wlan and cable. I tried starting from a LiveCD and same problem there. Tried using the previous kernel and networking is fine there.07:25
AppiahShould I file a bug report?07:25
Appiahor am I doing something wrong07:25
Appiahhttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/418933 found a bug report and a solution that works08:19
ubot3`Malone bug 418933 in linux "no internet connection (wifi+ethernet doesn't work)" [Low,Incomplete] 08:19
* nigel_c wonders how importance gets decided :/08:23
Appiahwell there's alot to do! :)08:24
nigel_cYeah, but networking simply not working is a bit of a show stopper for those affected :)08:26
^arky^Hi, Anyone seen these ALSA underrun and wake errors http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/304936/08:41
alexis_hi ! why in the karmic repositories, the are not linux-restricted package (for 2.6.31) ??14:14
alexis_why using DVB is so hard with the karmic's kernel. i have 2 usb dvb card supposed to work in linux. but its seem impossible to make it work. Artec T1   and another: terratec cinergy t usb xxs ....14:50
alexis_3 hours to try to make it work without any result...14:51
alexis_If it is not a kernel problem, its a ubuntu bug...14:51
ghostcubeguys since the update to karmic the uvc driver doesnt show any picture for my cam15:46
ghostcubecam gets detected but no output15:46
ghostcubei tried so far all webcam tools but same result15:47
alexis_maybe cause linux-restricted is not in the depositories for the karmics kernel?16:07
alexis_(i have also some difficulties with some drivers16:07
alexis_specially for dvb hardware that are suppoed to work under linux since 2.6.18.....16:07
alexis_:(16:07
dtchenalexis_: linux-restricted* went away for 9.10. What do you need it for?=16:09
dtchenalexis_: i.e., you should be using DKMSized versions if it all possible16:09
dtchenghostcube: please file a bug: ubuntu-bug linux16:09
alexis_i'm not developper, i just tried to make workin my harware. So i try differtn way, and in some howto, linux-restrictd- is needed..16:10
alexis_it seem that my probleme is linked to new kernel16:12
dtchenalexis_: again, linux-restricted* is gone. Please use the appropriate DKMSized packages.16:12
alexis_(all was working fine in 2.6.2416:12
alexis_ok16:12
alexis_but what do you mean about DKMSized packages?16:13
alexis_for example, i just want to make work that16:15
alexis_http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/TerraTec_Cinergy_T_USB_XXS16:15
alexis_dmk: i suppose that it mean that i just need to have te good module for my hardwaren and, this module will be loaded?16:18
alexis_but with a sudo modprobe dvb-usb-dib0700 , nothing special happens16:18
alexis_i have just, after: alexis@brocoli:~/v4l-dvb$ dmesg | grep -i dvb16:19
alexis_[ 4459.067798] usbcore: registered new interface driver dvb_usb_dib070016:19
alexis_but nothing workin more, and lsusb give me a geneic outbut without specify the model's name...16:20
alexis_lsusb: Bus 001 Device 016: ID 0ccd:00ab TerraTec Electronic GmbH16:20
ghostcubedtchen: done https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/46693516:21
ubot3`Malone bug 466935 in linux "No Video Output in Karmic with ID 046d:09a1 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Communicate MP/S5500" [Undecided,New] 16:21
dtchenalexis_: does it require firmware? Do you have linux-firmware installed?16:23
alexis_yes it require, yes it is installed16:24
dtchenalexis_: and are you positive you don't need to pass additional parameters at insmod time?16:25
alexis_i dont know, the module is supposed to be loaded automattically, no?16:26
alexis_i tried too to compile v4l-dvb drivers, but i got some error with make...16:27
alexis_http://paste.ubuntu.com/305889/16:29
alexis_(after reboot and reboot) dmesg: http://paste.ubuntu.com/305932/16:30
dtchenplease use #ubuntu for support16:30
alexis_i yet tried :)16:31
alexis_an other kernel question so. it is also about another dvb-usb hardware. In hardy 2.6.24, workin right just adding dvb-usb-dibusb-an2235-01.fw16:32
alexis_but in jaunty and karmic now, i see in  /boot/config-2.6.31-14-generic:16:33
alexis_CONFIG_DVB_USB_DIBUSB_MB_FAULTY is not set16:33
alexis_(line 3011)16:34
alexis_and it is needed to use this other dvb-usb harware, Artec T116:34
alexis_why is "not set" and no "y" or "m" ?16:35
alexis_"Support faulty USB IDs" option is enabled.  was enabled in hardy .....16:38
dtchencan't tell offhand if it was just disabled inadvertently16:47
dtchendoesn't seem to depend on anything marked experimental or broken16:47
alexis_sorry a patch yet exist for this point: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/44890816:50
ubot3`Malone bug 448908 in linux ""Artec T1 AN2235 DVB USB" device is no more detected" [Medium,Incomplete] 16:50
alexis_i just saw that right now16:50
alexis_:)16:50
amgarchIn9is there any experience if linuc-crashdump helps to trace complete locks in graphical logins?17:51
amgarchIn9How much memory does it take away with this cmdline option?: crashkernel=384M-2G:64M,2G-:128M. Is this memory reserved for crashdump during normal operation?17:54
tormodamgarchIn9, intel GPU?17:56
amgarchIn9tormod: yes, why? It is 9.10 already, not 9.04. The GPU is not any of the recent ones: 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03). I also guess a wireless stack may be involved in a crash.18:01
tormodamgarchIn9, what has 9.04/9.10 to do with it? you mean it is not caused by the GPU? try booting with "nomodeset" or use the vesa driver18:03
tormodamgarchIn9, are you sure the system is locked and just not the screen/console?18:04
amgarchIn9tormod: i meant the sorrow state of intel graphics in 9.04. The locks are occasional but seem to correlate with graphic layer activitiy and high wifi traffic. Cups-Lock/Num-Lock leds are dead at lock, which is pretty bad I think.18:07
amgarchIn9So far I know the problem occurs also with display efects (compositing?) disabled.18:08
tormodamgarchIn9, intel can still hang :) do you have another machine for ssh?18:08
amgarchIn9tormod: You think it is worth trying? Even the (ACPI-) power button is ignored when the machine locks. Long-pressing that will poweroff of course.18:12
amgarchIn9I may later try booting without KMS as you suggested, if you thing it may be related.18:13
tormodamgarchIn9, ok usually the power button should react. but anyway, a second computer would be handy, for example for netconsole18:13
tormodamgarchIn9, check the intel-gpu-tools package also18:13
amgarchIn9tormod: ok, I am back reading the internets. Thank you for tips.18:15
