evhrm, it seems we were using a bit of python 2.5 code in ubiquity anyway.  I was unaware that you couldn't intermix except and finally in single blocks before python 2.513:33
mozmckI'm building a custom livecd with a custom kernel.  I also want this to be installable with my kernel and extra apps just like the standard ubuntu livecd.  I'm using the instructions from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomization14:11
mozmckMy question is, will the installer install whatever is on the live CD, or do I need to put the packages somewhere on the CD also?14:12
evmozmck: the installer will install whatever is in the squashfs.  Any changes you make to the live CD while it's booted will not be installed.14:20
mozmckOk, I've extracted the livecd and am removing and installing programs in a chroot environment.  Then I'll rebuild the livecd and burn it to the CD.  I know the programs I install will be on the livecd, but will they get installed to the computer if I install from the livecd?14:23
evyes14:24
mozmckIs there a better place to ask about creating a livecd? I couldn't find anything specific to that...14:24
evwhat do you need to know that's not covered in that wiki page?14:24
mozmckAh, ok.  I didn't know if I needed to put the .deb files on the CD somewhere as well.14:24
evnope, the installer works by copying files from /rofs (the squashfs)14:25
mozmckok, that was one thing that was unclear to me.  another is the process for installing a custom kernel.14:26
mozmckthat page says just copy the vmlinuz and initrd.gz files to casper.14:26
mozmckbut I'm thinking I should first install the .deb in chroot and then copy those files over.14:27
evyes14:31
mozmckok, thanks for the help!14:32
evsure thing14:33

WeatherGodbug 48185217:15
ubottuLaunchpad bug 481852 in ubiquity "Mint-8RC1 Installer crashed" [Undecided,Invalid] https://launchpad.net/bugs/48185217:15
WeatherGodthe person had a crash during installation of LinuxMint17:15
evWeatherGod: it looks like a bad CD burn.  Not the squashfs errors towards the end of the syslog file.17:30
evNote*17:30
WeatherGodok, I'll let him know17:30
WeatherGodthanks for the help17:31
