micahgwhen someone blogs about a rant, does anyone ever poke them to file bugs?00:43
ajmitchyes00:44
micahgor am I better off filing the bug if I think it's worth it?00:44
ajmitchsee dtchen's recent response there for how to fix audio bugs00:44
micahgyeah, I saw that00:44
ajmitchoften people who want to rant don't want to put the effort in to file a useful bug00:45
micahgok00:47
pwnguinmicahg: although, usually it's a good idea to search yourself to see if they've already filed it before suggesting they eat their vegstables, exercise 30 minutes daily or file bug reports00:50

morficdropping gimp? seriously? (yes i joined, just to ask that, seriously ;P)02:04
ionWhy not? F-spot is enough for the typical user’s needs and the advanced user is free to install the advanced software of her choice.02:08
ebroderAlso, for crying out loud, gimp is being removed from the LIVE CD, not the distribution02:09
morficthanks for clearing that up then03:15
Lindowsnot sure if this is the correct channel, but I mount a network drive (samba share, cifs, auto in fstab) and it appears kubuntu is attempting to mount the network drive before the network is up (or I'm even logged in).  Anyway to tell it to wait?04:13

blackxoredwhat's the appropiate package to file a bug against the Appearance preferences, which has to do where you're using CCSM, there are no options marked in the visual effects tab, I recall that sometime ago (or maybe I'm wrong and that was in fedora), when you have customized your effects through ccsm, there is a marked option for ccsm or custom, or something like that?14:25

Chipzzblackxored: not the appropriate channel. I thnk you want #ubuntu-bugs14:49
blackxoredChipzz, thanks14:53
Chipzzblackxored: also, if you're not getting an answer (on any channel really), may I suggest you check the topic (which you REALLY should have done before asking the question in the first place) to see if your question is on-topic instead of repeating your question?14:53
blackxoredChipzz, I was unsure about the proper package, I was going to file against ubuntu-desktop but that was too generic14:54

jcoleso, i created a chroot and bind mounted dev/proc/tmp ... how do i kill only the procs started in the chroot?19:51
jcolei created a hardy chroot to backport19:52
maxbjcole: /proc/PID/root tells you what the (ch)root dir of a process is. You can use this, from outside the chroot, to locate still-running chrooted processes20:08
jcolemaxb: thank you, i figured out that lsof was also my friend :)20:08

nixjunki3Is there a channel specifically for packaging or is this it20:38

hyperairdtchen: is it possible to patch pactl/pacmd to be more friendly to scripts?21:57
hyperaire.g. list-sinks with a format parameter or something21:57
hyperairif the output can be parsed by a script then it should be simple enough to save the muted status of each sink/source prior to suspend/hibernate and restore upon resume21:58
hyperairin fact, i think pm-utils has some helper functions for this kind of thing21:58
hyperairhmm no wait i think i can script this..22:03
hyperair$ echo list-sinks | pacmd | grep -e index -e mute | sed -e 's/^[[:space:]*]*//' | (sink=; while read line value; do [ ${line%:} = index ] && sink=$value || echo $sink=$value; done)22:05
hyperairvoila. readable $sink=$muted status22:06
hyperairnow to save it..22:06
Infin1tyI'm trying to build openoffice.org with some extension integrated into it, what is the easy way to pack it? i thought about just putting the oxt file in the OOBUILDDIR/extras/source/extensions, is it the right thing to do?22:24

falehi23:19
faleWill Lucid use xsplash or will it use plymouth?23:19
Keybukjames_w: "You cannot upload to this branch. Members of Ubuntu branches can upload to this branch." ? :-(23:31
hyperairfale: xsplash.23:38
falehyperair: oh... I have seen a couple minutes ago the opposite info :S23:40
hyperairwhat?23:40
hyperairfrom who?23:40
hyperairwhere?23:40
hyperairwhen?23:40
hyperairer nevermind about the when23:40
falehyperair: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8341620&postcount=823:40
hyperair...either i'm missing out on something, or somebody's bullshitting.23:41
falehyperair: yeah.. is not very clear what's going on :S23:41
Keybukhow is that not clear? :p23:41
ScottKfale: ^^^ guy in charge of the Ubuntu boot work, so I think it's now clear.23:42
faleScottK: hem... who is?23:42
* Keybuk 23:43
faleKeybuk: oh, cool... than it will plymouth or what for ubuntu? and for the other flavours?23:43
Keybukfale: yes, plymouth; as it says23:44
Keybukreplacing usplash23:44
faleKeybuk: than even for kubuntu, I guess, is it right?23:44
Keybukfale: yes23:44
falecool :)23:45
Keybukthe xsplash bit is a bit more complicated; we *may* merge the xsplash code into plymouth, so that we can use the plymouth splash plugins rendering to (effectively) xsplash23:45
Keybukrecent changes in plymouth's code make that possible23:45
faleKeybuk: I see23:45
falebut it will use the actual plymouth system in any case (I mean that it never shows a black screen, code or stuff like that)23:46
fale*?23:46
Keybukthat's not really plymouth doing that23:47
fale:o... what is?23:47
Keybukbut it helps23:47
Keybukpatches to the X server and kernel/X driver support23:47
faleI see23:47
Keybukthe main reason for the usplash->plymouth switch is that plymouth is a much cleaner codebase for future developments23:47
Keybukwith better support for things like multi-head built in23:47
Keybuk(being based on the kernel DRM/DRI/FB devices, not SVGAlib)23:48
faleand ubuntu will aim to that? (like fedora does)23:48
Keybukyes23:48
faleI can see the point ;)23:48
falecool :)23:48
faleKeybuk: since when, probably, the plymouth will be the default one on the daily?23:48
Keybukprobably early next week23:48
falethat's really cool :)23:49
Keybuktseliot and I have been working on it for a couple of weeks23:49
faleI see :)23:49
faleanother question completly unreleated: fedora uses kickstart to create the official and the unofficial ISOs. Which program is used by ubuntu for the official ISOs?23:50
Keybukproved it worked, so came to UDS saying "yup, let's just do this"23:50
faleKeybuk: I think that's a good way ;)23:50
Keybukwe use Debian-based tools23:50
falewhat's the name?23:50
Keybuksomething boring like "live cd tools"23:51
faleI see23:51
faleand is there the 'official configuration' that is used to create the official ubuntu iso?23:51
Keybuknot sure23:51
faleI see23:51
Keybukbasically they just make a chroot, debootstrap, install ubuntu-desktop, turn it into a squashfs, and onto an iso23:52
faleKeybuk: it sounds dirty :S23:53
faleI mean, compared to kickstart23:53
ScottKfale: debian-cd is used for all ISOs and there's some additional bits for the live CDs.23:53
Keybukfale: no, not at all23:54
Keybukvery clean23:54
faleI see23:54
Keybukmaking CD images is fundamentally Not That Hard :)23:54
faleKeybuk: if I use uck to modify an ubuntu iso... do you think it will still be clean?23:55
* Keybuk modifies them all the time23:55
faleok :)23:56
faleanother thing: I have created a package that only have some dependences (no files). But after the installation apt tells me that my package is unused and that I can freely delete it. How can I fix this?23:58
