alkisghighvoltage: 2 thoughts for the LucidPlanning page: Menu Improvements ==> it'd be nice if we had a team of "edubuntu customizers", and each of them provided an ubuiquity script. This way the user would be able to select that he wants to install e.g. the "Greek primary" edubuntu customization, and that would get him a different set of apps/menus than the "Royal academy of Blahblah" edubuntu customization...06:30
alkisgI.e. make it easy for countries / schools etc to select their own set of apps/menus.06:31
alkisgAnd about the usb installation, the new syslinux version supports creating hybrid images, which can function both as live cds and live usb sticks.06:32

nubaewhenever u feel like working on  the mirror for linux-for-education.org, let me knw09:43
stgraberalkisg: the idea for the menu was to write a tool to actually do the filtering correctly (Jordan did some work on that a while ago) and then contact the locoteams to get the configuration for each country/region16:03
alkisgstgraber: that'd be nice, but giving the opportunity to loco teams to select which apps they want for their region would be even better imho16:04
alkisg(and, it wouldn't be loco teams in this case, it'd be "customization" or "flavor" or something teams...)16:05
alkisg(i.e. members of a new group, e.g. edubuntu-customizers)16:05
stgraberthe idea is that we'll ship a default configuration based on the input we get from the locos, then you can always define your own16:06
stgraberI don't think we need a new group for that as we really want it to be more open as we'll need a lot of input from our users (switzerland for example has 24 different school systems ;))16:07
jbichastgraber: and will all the customizations ship on the DVD?16:07
alkisgOK, then 24 different "flavors", I don't think there's a problem there...16:07
stgraberjbicha: it's the idea, that'll basically be a few small files defining what's to be display, won't take any space on the DVD16:08
alkisgAs each "flavor" would be a set of apps, it'd only need a few Kb, so we could include any number of them16:08
stgraberright16:08
jbichabut won't the files depend on apps, wallpaper, etc.?16:08
stgraberno16:08
stgraberall the applications will be on the DVD anyway, if you do a standard install, they'll all be installed16:09
stgraberthen you use that software to filter what your users see16:09
stgraberso in school districts you could have a single image and depending on the groups in which the user is, he'd get a different set of softwares16:09
stgraberalright, let's do some packing, then it'll be time to leave that hotel and head for the airport16:11
alkisgI think that giving people the ability to provide sets of apps would be better. E.g. a school may need an app that we won't ship on the dvd; with a set of apps it could be downloaded over the internet, though...16:11
alkisgE.g. a multimedia school will have totally different needs than a primary school16:11
alkisgHave a nice flight16:13
Ahmuck-Jrhow does gobby work?  webdev server?16:15
dgroos_Hi All,17:51
dgroos_I'm trying to experiment with upgrading my Jaunty LTSP server to Karmic.17:52
dgroos_I cloned my Jaunty onto an identical, 2 nic server, rebooted, fixed the 70-persistent-net.rules to eth0 and eth1.17:53
dgroos_thin clients boot well but...17:54
dgroos_I can't get out on the internet on the server.  Neither by firefox nor pinging google.com via terminal17:55
dgroos_probably something simple... I checked /etc/network/interfaces and that looked fine.  Any ideas how I can get this cloned server to access the internet (and thus update to Karmic)?17:56
dgroos_OK got it finally--saw something on https://help.ubuntu.com/9.04/serverguide/C/network-configuration.html about /etc/resolv.conf and sure enough, that was a blank page.  fixed it up, restarted server and now have access on server.18:21
nubaeaj shucks....20:05
nubaetoo bad he couldn't hear me plug telepathy yet again :-p20:05
