j1mcEviIguana_: is your mount point actually /home/eviliguana  (or whatever your username is)?03:05
j1mcif so, try creating a new, empty directory.03:05
j1mci.e. /home/eviliguana/samba-share03:06
j1mcor better yet... /mnt/samba-share03:06
EviIguana_no luck03:16
EviIguana_i think03:16
EviIguana_it has something to do with the password03:16
EviIguana_it never asks me for the username and password to the windows machine03:16
j1mcEviIguana_: samba is not really "plug and play"... i take it you've looked over a few documents about how to best connect to a windows share?03:19
j1mcsorry i can't be of much help03:19
EviIguana_yeah03:19
EviIguana_was hoping it was a little easier03:20

ubottuwaggl: Hi! Welcome to #xubuntu! Feel free to ask questions and help people out. The channel guidelines are at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/IrcGuidelines. Enjoy your stay!10:41
wagglis here someone who can maybe help me?^^10:42
knome!ask | waggl10:42
ubottuwaggl: Please don't ask to ask a question, simply ask the question (all on ONE line and in the channel, so that others can read and follow it easily). If anyone knows the answer they will most likely reply. :-)10:42
jarshey knome ;p10:42

knomenot a very usual abbrevation for netbook though...10:43
knome;)10:44
jarshehe10:44
jarsit's actually got nothing to do with that, just added a letter.10:44
jars:D10:44
knomeyup10:44
jarsI guess it could mean small!10:44
jars:P10:44
knomemaybe10:44
wagglok, i just made a dist-upgrade and it told me to reboot. i did that and when the splash should show up it says it fails to show it in the resolution. the view is filmmering and i am in tty1 but through filmmering i cant loggin because it dont take all keyboardinputs10:44
jarswaggl, What version did you upgrade from?10:45
jars9.04?10:45
waggl9.1010:45

jarsWhat was your old version?10:46
waggl9.1010:46
jarsWait.. what?10:46
knomewaggl, you upgraded to lucid?10:46
jarsThe current version is 9.1010:46
waggli installed from the 9.10 cd and then typed sudo apt-get dist-upgrade...was that wrong?^^10:47
jarseeep10:47
jarsyou should have used the update manager10:47
waggli did that because it didnt install all updates with sudo apt-get upgrade10:47
wagglwhy?^^10:47
jarsIt's the officially supported update method.10:47
jarsIt makes sure these things don't happen.10:48
wagglmmh...10:48
knomewaggl, what does 'lsb_release -a' say?10:48
waggli cant login to my system so i cant try it...10:48
wagglat the moment i am on the live-cd10:49
knomewaggl, what about the safe mode (or what it's called), in grub?10:49
jarsCan you chroot in?10:49
wagglmmh. how do i use that?10:49
waggli am new to linux...sry...10:49
knomewaggl, if it was a relatively clear installation still, i'd think the best way would be to reinstall10:49
jarsYeah, it seems you accidentally plopped yourself into Lucid10:50
jarsWhich is far from stable at this time10:50
knomewaggl, and *not* dist-upgrade. if you succeeded in dist-upgrading, it means you were in a development release of release that's supposed to be released in april 201010:50
knomewaggl, read: not going to work10:50
waggloh...ok...10:50
wagglso how can i use the safe-mode?10:50
waggli want to backup my data before reinstalling10:51
knomewaggl, your drives should be mounted in the livecd10:51
waggloh^^10:51
wagglmmh but i cant see my homefolder10:52
knomein /media ?10:53
wagglmedia is empty here...10:54
knome/mnt ?10:55
wagglalso empty10:56
waggli think that isnt my filesystem10:56
wagglehm harddrive...10:56
knomewaggl, ok, so what does 'mount' say in terminal?10:57
waggl/dev/sr0, aufs, /dev/loop0 and tmpfs are mounted10:59
waggland udev10:59
knomeyeah...10:59
knomeyou probably should mount your HD's yourself, but you can do that from the livecd and if you have a USB disk/stick you can backup like that11:00
wagglok thx i will try that ^^11:00
knome!mount | waggl11:00
ubottuwaggl: mount is used to attach devices to directories. See also https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Mount11:00

squirrelpimphi14:20
squirrelpimpi found a bug in latest xubuntu karmic. Basically the login takes pretty long while an error appears in .xsession-errors multiple times14:20
squirrelpimpit is described here as well: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=6786014:21
TheSheep!bugs | squirrelpimp14:21
ubottusquirrelpimp: If you find a bug in Ubuntu or any of its derivatives, please file a bug using the command « ubuntu-bug <package> » - See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs for other ways to report bugs - Bugs in/wishes for the IRC bots (not Ubuntu) can be filed at http://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-bots14:21
squirrelpimpTheSheep: yes. Thanks.14:21
squirrelpimp:)14:21
squirrelpimpi came here as i'm not sure which package to file it against14:21
squirrelpimpso given this information, i already have the new bug report opened14:21
squirrelpimp:)14:21
squirrelpimpwhich part of xfce sets the keyboard layout? xfce4-session?14:22
* TheSheep doesn't know14:35
TheSheepI'd file it against the session and let someone change it later14:35
squirrelpimpok, i did that14:36
squirrelpimpright now i'm trying to fix gnome-keyring-daemon not setting the environment variables. Is there some overview available about which processes are started by whom and in which order the system processes the various session setup scripts after user login?14:37
TheSheepI don't know about anything like that, it changes too fast, but you might want to ask at #xubuntu-devel14:38
squirrelpimpfor example theres an Xsession file in /etc/gdm and /etc/X14:38
squirrelpimpok14:38
TheSheep(and wait for someone to show up)14:38
danielsevignyHello everyone. Has anyone successfully Dualbooted Windows 7 and 9.10? I failed on the first attempt at the partitioner (had told it to boot alongside Win7) and now that opton is no longer available. Am thinking I can overwrite the disk with Xubuntu and then reinstall win7 after. Does this work?17:17
likemindeaddanielsevigny_, try Super Grub Disk17:29
likemindeadhttp://www.supergrubdisk.org/17:29
likemindeadIt can fix you right up, if anything can.17:30
danielsevigny_It's just weird the way the partitioner hung like that.... never seen it before.17:30
danielsevigny_my only concern is that it's not allowing me to partition the drive. It's basically giving me the option of all or nothing at this point17:32
=== fran is now known as Guest97243
danielsevigny_How big is the Xubuntu installation?18:25
likemindeadI think 4GB is the recommended space available.18:33
=== semorg is now known as krid
danielsevigny_xubuntu is being bad...20:08
danielsevigny_Anyone use X-Plane with xubuntu?20:08
FelineMonstrositMy updates are downloading very sporadically (and have been for weeks). Most of the time the download speed is 0, then occasionally it will go up to a few hundred bytes per second, and even more occasionally about 10 or 20 kb/s. Downloading 40mb of updates takes AGES! Anyone else experiencing this?20:57
cody-somervilleFelineMonstrosit, sounds like a network issue?21:17
FelineMonstrositcody-somerville: what I want to know is whether it's a problem at my end or a problem with the servers. My internet has had no other problems.21:38
wrgbFelineMonstrosit: you still there?21:47
FelineMonstrosityes21:47
wrgbFelineMonstrosit: hang on a sec,21:47
wrgbFelineMonstrosit: go to synaptic package manager, click on Settings > Repositories, where it says Download from: servername, click on the drop down list21:50
wrgbFelineMonstrosit: click Other, then click on the Select Best Server button, this will run a test on all the available servers and find the fastest one21:50
wrgbFelineMonstrosit: when it finishes, press the (I think) Choose Server button for the one it comes up with21:51
FelineMonstrositOK thanks. I will try that.21:55
