[02:44] Hello [02:44] I am trying to connect to a windows samba share [02:45] I have installed midnight commander [02:45] as well as samba [02:45] and changed the mount point to my home directory [02:45] running pyNeighborhood in debug mode [02:45] I get the following error: [02:45] Mounting //192.168.1.101/Apollo ... [02:45] mount error(13): Permission denied [02:45] Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs) [02:45] Failed to mount [02:45] Failed, mounting by netbios [02:45] can anyone help please with this?? [02:46] I'd really like to get my printer connected [02:46] thank you! [03:01] any ideas anyone? [03:05] EviIguana_: is your mount point actually /home/eviliguana (or whatever your username is)? [03:05] if so, try creating a new, empty directory. [03:06] i.e. /home/eviliguana/samba-share [03:06] or better yet... /mnt/samba-share [03:16] no luck [03:16] i think [03:16] it has something to do with the password [03:16] it never asks me for the username and password to the windows machine [03:19] EviIguana_: samba is not really "plug and play"... i take it you've looked over a few documents about how to best connect to a windows share? [03:19] sorry i can't be of much help [03:19] yeah [03:20] was hoping it was a little easier [05:06] Is mounting ssh shares with Gigolo not working for anyone else? [05:11] It seems to mount but won't open in Thunar.. [05:19] how do you install ibus on xubuntu? [05:23] ronin_, it's in apt [05:27] what repo? searching for ibus doesn't show it up [05:27] ronin_, what are you using to search [05:28] synaptic [05:28] !info ibus [05:28] ibus (source: ibus): New input method framework using dbus. In component main, is optional. Version 1.2.0.20090927-2ubuntu2 (karmic), package size 423 kB, installed size 3848 kB [05:28] ronin_, i searched with aptitutde and it turns up [05:28] o_o [05:28] !info gnome-app-install [05:28] gnome-app-install (source: gnome-app-install): GNOME Application Installer. In component universe, is optional. Version 0.5.60.1ubuntu2 (karmic), package size 709 kB, installed size 2816 kB [05:29] ronin_: what version of xubuntu? [05:29] 9.10 [05:29] under languages it doesn't show up as an option for input [05:29] sudo apt-get install ibus [05:29] to terminal [05:30] need to go → [05:31] just making sure apt is updated first [05:31] and this install didn't automatically add my 2 NTFS partitions [10:41] hello [10:41] !hi | waggl [10:41] waggl: Hi! Welcome to #xubuntu! Feel free to ask questions and help people out. The channel guidelines are at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/IrcGuidelines. Enjoy your stay! [10:42] is here someone who can maybe help me?^^ [10:42] !ask | waggl [10:42] waggl: Please don't ask to ask a question, simply ask the question (all on ONE line and in the channel, so that others can read and follow it easily). If anyone knows the answer they will most likely reply. :-) [10:42] hey knome ;p [10:42] hey jars [10:43] jars = jar on netbook [10:43] :D [10:43] hehe [10:43] well yeah i guessed you are jar, but wasn't totally sure what the s meant ;) [10:43] not a very usual abbrevation for netbook though... [10:44] ;) [10:44] hehe [10:44] it's actually got nothing to do with that, just added a letter. [10:44] :D [10:44] yup [10:44] I guess it could mean small! [10:44] :P [10:44] maybe [10:44] ok, i just made a dist-upgrade and it told me to reboot. i did that and when the splash should show up it says it fails to show it in the resolution. the view is filmmering and i am in tty1 but through filmmering i cant loggin because it dont take all keyboardinputs [10:45] waggl, What version did you upgrade from? [10:45] 9.04? [10:45] 9.10 [10:45] probably *to* 9.10 [10:46] Yeah [10:46] What was your old version? [10:46] 9.10 [10:46] Wait.. what? [10:46] waggl, you upgraded to lucid? [10:46] The current version is 9.10 [10:47] i installed from the 9.10 cd and then typed sudo apt-get dist-upgrade...was that wrong?^^ [10:47] eeep [10:47] you should have used the update manager [10:47] i did that because it didnt install all updates with sudo apt-get upgrade [10:47] why?^^ [10:47] It's the officially supported update method. [10:48] It makes sure these things don't happen. [10:48] mmh... [10:48] waggl, what does 'lsb_release -a' say? [10:48] i cant login to my system so i cant try it... [10:49] at the moment i am on the live-cd [10:49] waggl, what about the safe mode (or what it's called), in grub? [10:49] Can you chroot in? [10:49] mmh. how do i use that? [10:49] i am new to linux...sry... [10:49] waggl, if it was a relatively clear installation still, i'd think the best way would be to reinstall [10:50] Yeah, it seems you accidentally plopped yourself into Lucid [10:50] Which is far from stable at this time [10:50] waggl, and *not* dist-upgrade. if you succeeded in dist-upgrading, it means you were in a development release of release that's supposed to be released in april 2010 [10:50] waggl, read: not going to work [10:50] oh...ok... [10:50] so how can i use the safe-mode? [10:51] i want to backup my data before reinstalling [10:51] waggl, your drives should be mounted in the livecd [10:51] oh^^ [10:52] mmh but i cant see my homefolder [10:53] in /media ? [10:54] media is empty here... [10:55] /mnt ? [10:56] also empty [10:56] i think that isnt my filesystem [10:56] ehm harddrive... [10:57] waggl, ok, so what does 'mount' say in terminal? [10:59] /dev/sr0, aufs, /dev/loop0 and tmpfs are mounted [10:59] and udev [10:59] yeah... [11:00] you probably should mount your HD's yourself, but you can do that from the livecd and if you have a USB disk/stick you can backup like that [11:00] ok thx i will try that ^^ [11:00] !mount | waggl [11:00] waggl: mount is used to attach devices to directories. See also https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Mount [11:01] waggl, for more help see ^^ [11:01] and there is no way to reverse the upgrade?^^ [11:02] no. [11:04] ok thank you ^^ cu^^ [11:04] have fun and good luck [11:04] thx [11:12] i always forger xterm options in xdefaults... [11:12] grrrr [11:13] ;) [11:13] xfce4-terminal is nice... but kinda slow on this netbook. [11:14] hmm, partly agre [11:14] +e [11:14] i would *so* fall asleep if i didn't make myself write an essay :% [11:15] or more like %| [11:15] hehehe [11:15] knome, You a student too? [11:15] yep. [11:15] :) [11:15] i'm 21 and a student also [11:15] i'm studying social services in a university of applied sciences [11:15] ahhhh [11:15] neato [11:15] (23, 24 in a month or so) [11:16] =] [11:16] i notice xfce users tend to be young [11:16] weird [13:58] hallo^^ [14:20] hi [14:20] i found a bug in latest xubuntu karmic. Basically the login takes pretty long while an error appears in .xsession-errors multiple times [14:21] it is described here as well: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=67860 [14:21] !bugs | squirrelpimp [14:21] squirrelpimp: If you find a bug in Ubuntu or any of its derivatives, please file a bug using the command « ubuntu-bug » - See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs for other ways to report bugs - Bugs in/wishes for the IRC bots (not Ubuntu) can be filed at http://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-bots [14:21] TheSheep: yes. Thanks. [14:21] :) [14:21] i came here as i'm not sure which package to file it against [14:21] so given this information, i already have the new bug report opened [14:21] :) [14:22] which part of xfce sets the keyboard layout? xfce4-session? [14:35] * TheSheep doesn't know [14:35] I'd file it against the session and let someone change it later [14:36] ok, i did that [14:37] right now i'm trying to fix gnome-keyring-daemon not setting the environment variables. Is there some overview available about which processes are started by whom and in which order the system processes the various session setup scripts after user login? [14:38] I don't know about anything like that, it changes too fast, but you might want to ask at #xubuntu-devel [14:38] for example theres an Xsession file in /etc/gdm and /etc/X [14:38] ok [14:38] (and wait for someone to show up) [17:17] Hello everyone. Has anyone successfully Dualbooted Windows 7 and 9.10? I failed on the first attempt at the partitioner (had told it to boot alongside Win7) and now that opton is no longer available. Am thinking I can overwrite the disk with Xubuntu and then reinstall win7 after. Does this work? [17:29] danielsevigny_, try Super Grub Disk [17:29] http://www.supergrubdisk.org/ [17:30] It can fix you right up, if anything can. [17:30] It's just weird the way the partitioner hung like that.... never seen it before. [17:32] my only concern is that it's not allowing me to partition the drive. It's basically giving me the option of all or nothing at this point === fran is now known as Guest97243 [18:25] How big is the Xubuntu installation? [18:33] I think 4GB is the recommended space available. === semorg is now known as krid [20:08] xubuntu is being bad... [20:08] Anyone use X-Plane with xubuntu? [20:57] My updates are downloading very sporadically (and have been for weeks). Most of the time the download speed is 0, then occasionally it will go up to a few hundred bytes per second, and even more occasionally about 10 or 20 kb/s. Downloading 40mb of updates takes AGES! Anyone else experiencing this? [21:17] FelineMonstrosit, sounds like a network issue? [21:38] cody-somerville: what I want to know is whether it's a problem at my end or a problem with the servers. My internet has had no other problems. [21:47] FelineMonstrosit: you still there? [21:47] yes [21:47] FelineMonstrosit: hang on a sec, [21:50] FelineMonstrosit: go to synaptic package manager, click on Settings > Repositories, where it says Download from: servername, click on the drop down list [21:50] FelineMonstrosit: click Other, then click on the Select Best Server button, this will run a test on all the available servers and find the fastest one [21:51] FelineMonstrosit: when it finishes, press the (I think) Choose Server button for the one it comes up with [21:55] OK thanks. I will try that. [22:19] hmm [22:19] You know, I have to say, Thunderbird's evolution support is much better than Evolution's [22:21] err [22:21] IMAP support! [22:24] I think I'm going to remove Evolution @ Home.. [22:25] :) [22:30] * Sahkolihaa uses Thunderbird but can't get it to use Chromium instead of bloody Firefox.
