twbIs the isolinux.conf used on install media stored in VCS?08:00
twbI want to check what "rescue" and "expert" expand to, because I always forget.08:01
twb(This is for d-i, not ubiquity.)08:01
* twb heads over to svn.d.o08:03
cjwatsonlp:~ubuntu-core-dev/debian-cd/ubuntu08:04
twbty08:04
cjwatsonhmm, or not08:04
cjwatsonlp:~ubuntu-cdimage/debian-cd/ubuntu08:04
cjwatsonisolinux.cfg is generated though. look in tools/boot/karmic/08:04
twbUgh, I'm dumb.  There's probably a copy of pxelinux.cfg with that info, where I get my initrd.gz from.08:06
twbYep, [...]/dists/hardy/main/installer-i386/current/images/netboot/pxelinux.cfg/default08:08
twbrescue --> rescue/enable=true and expert --> priority=low08:08
cjwatsonyes08:10
twbcjwatson: btw, since you're around... will 10.04's d-i include the ability to fetch the preseed file over TFTP?08:14
twbIIRC that was fixed in Debian's d-i recently08:15
cjwatsontwb: I see no reason why it shouldn't11:40
twbOK, I wasn't sure how often you re-synced and such11:41
twbOr how soon you freeze :-)11:41
cjwatsonwiki.ubuntu.com/LTS wiki.ubuntu.com/LucidReleaseSchedule11:42
cjwatsonas for how often we resync, "occasionally"11:43
cjwatsonhowever - we've already got debian-installer-utils 1.72, which has the relevant change11:43
cjwatsonso yes, 10.04 will have that11:43
twbSorry, I was being lazy.  I thought you'd know off the top of your head -- otherwise I'd have dug up the details.11:53
* twb forgets that proper hackers look after more than one project11:54
acemohow can i create gpt disks during the installation of ubuntu-server 9.10?14:07
cjwatsonI think you need to use expert mode unless you're in a situation where gpt is mandatory (really big disk, or EFI)14:08
acemoam using 5x 500gb disks ..14:09
cjwatsonreally big => over 2TB14:09
acemohow do i enter the expert mode?14:09
cjwatsonthere's an option on the F6 menu at the CD bootloader14:09
twbHow big is really big?14:10
twbOh, you said14:10
acemo5x 500gb is 2.5tb so seems really big to me :>14:10
cjwatsonacemo: per-disk14:10
acemocjwatson: am using software raid, so it counts as 1 disk?14:11
cjwatsonbut when you use software RAID, you typically RAID *partitions* together, not the whole disk14:11
cjwatsonthe partition table on each individual disk only needs to be able to express each RAID physical volume14:11
cjwatsonso you should not need GPT in your situation, although it wouldn't hurt (except insofar as using expert mode is generally painful)14:12
acemocjwatson: how would i go making 2x 10gb partitions and 1x 20gb partition and 1 partition of "the rest"?14:14
acemousing raid 5.. it actually comes down to 2tb exactly as total..14:14
cjwatsonthe 2tb limit is not relevant for you.14:14
acemosome how when trying to make the last partition it just doesn't lets me14:15
cjwatsonjust create partitions of the size you want on each disk, mark them RAID physical volumes, and select "configure RAID" to put them together14:15
cjwatson"just doesn't let me" => more detail please14:15
acemocjwatson: gimme a minute.. my collegue just rebooted the system..14:16
acemook it seems we screwed up something with lvm aswell.. so we couldn't remove some partitions anymore.. Had to recreate trough guided installer the partitions and delete them.. almost done.. on last hard disk now.14:37
acemothanks for your patience cjwatson14:37
cjwatsonok, good14:38
acemofinally, 5 empty hard disks :)14:38
acemoso.. i make on each hard disk 2 partitions of 2.5gb, 1 of 4gb and 1 of 491.1gb and set them as raid? (resulting in 2x 10gb, 1x 20gb and 1x lots of gb partitions)14:39
cjwatsonyes. I thought I'd managed to make this easier in karmic but I missed a bit, so I hope it'll be easier in lucid14:41
cjwatsonin karmic, you can get away without setting them as raid - you can just go into "configure raid" and select the partitions you want, and it'll take care of it14:41
cjwatsonin lucid, it should be possible to tell it to create partitions of the same size on each of several disks, in one operation14:42
sorenOoh! Shiny!14:43
acemocjwatson: That sounds great.14:43
cjwatsonthis was just an oversight, it's not all that hard to add now14:44
acemook, all partitions are created.14:44
acemoconfigure raid.. accepted the write changes thing14:44
acemocreate md device14:44
acemotype: raid 514:44
acemonumber of active devices: 514:45
acemonumber of spare devices 014:45
acemoactive devices: sda1, sdb1, sdc1, sdd1, sde114:45
acemo(which are all 2.5gb)14:45
acemodid same for the rest..14:46
acemoand i see only 3 raid5 devices.14:47
acemowhen trying to create the raid 5 for devices sda7-sde7 all of size: 491106mb it does not gives any message of success or failure, just doesn't creates it.14:48
cjwatsonI'll need logs14:49
acemowhich logs and how can i access them?14:50
cjwatson/var/log/syslog, /var/log/partman. go back to the main menu and select "save debug logs".14:50
cjwatson(I think you'll need to file a bug, I'm behind on writing design docs for lucid ...)14:51
acemoim not sure if i can actually send you the partman log.. it seems to be 13mb14:58
acemoohh only 214kb packed with 7zip =)15:01
