LaserJockI'm a little unsure, can Launchpad only import git master branches or can you give it other branches as well to import?02:38
wgrantLaserJock: Only master, at the moment.02:44
LaserJockah, darn02:44
LaserJockI wondered if it was just master-by-default02:44
RAOFI'd wager it's because bzr-git does not yet have any way to specify a git branch that isn't "master"03:00
spivRAOF: more precisely, because bzr doesn't have a way to address colocated branches.03:02

jyoderI've checked the .dput.cf file a dozen times and the paths are correct for each version20:02
akheronjyoder: you cannot have the same version in multiple serieses20:02
akheronappend ~hardy1, ~jaunty1, ~karmic1 to the versions20:03
jyoderah, so the wiki page is incorrect20:03
jyoderI'll go ahead and fix that then while I'm at it :)20:03
akheronhow?20:03
akheronI mean, what does the wiki page say that makes you think you can have the same version in each?20:03
jyoderthe "Using packages from other distributions" implies that you can force the build to occur in a specific version no matter what is specified in the changelog (which does work) and therefore that you can upload the same version to multiple distros20:05
Fazer2now that someone is here, do you know if it is possible to remove PPA?20:05

jyoderdoes anyone currently upload the same package for multiple distro versions?  If I'm understanding correctly, the only answer is to have a different changelog line for each one?20:14
akheronjyoder: correct20:14
jyoderI think I said that badly. I mean the top line of the changelog needs to be differenet for each one20:14
LarstiQehm, afaik you can just upload to the distro queue directly?20:14
jyoderand I have to repackage...20:14
akheronjyoder: you can copy the same package to multiple distros, however20:15
jyodersee, that's what *I* got from the docs20:15
jyoderbut akheron says no20:15
LarstiQI have done it in the past, it would surprise me if it is no longer possible.20:15

jyoderdespite me uploading to ~jyoder/ppa/ubuntu/jaunty20:16
Fazer2jyoder: https://help.launchpad.net/Packaging/PPA/BuildingASourcePackage20:17
maxbLarstiQ means that you can copy the *built binaries*20:17
maxbOf course, this only is useful if binaries built in one series will actually install and function correctly in another20:17
LarstiQmaxb: I actually did mean with dput20:17
maxbOops, I fail at reading :-)20:17
akheronafaik, maxb is right, LarstiQ is wrong20:17
maxbYes, you can override the distro in the changelog/changes via the upload URL20:18
LarstiQakheron: What I said is correct, but things may have changed.20:18
maxbThis does not, however, permit you to violate the constraint that a given version may only be uploaded once20:18
akheronLarstiQ: how long ago did you succeed in it?20:18
LarstiQakheron: july/august?20:19
LarstiQsomething like that20:19
Fazer2I haven't read all packaging guide yet, but I thought building would be as easy as uploading sources to the server and it would build them automatically20:19
akheronLarstiQ: I cannot believe you succeeded :F20:19
LarstiQakheron: there is what maxb said, change the version.20:20
LarstiQFazer2: it is20:20
akheronLarstiQ: you said that you were able to upload the same version many times20:20
jyoderFazer2: It is, as long as you're not trying to target multiple versions of Ubuntu (hardy/intrepid/etc)20:21
LarstiQakheron: same package20:21
akheronLarstiQ: ahh20:21
akheronjyoder's problem was uploading the same version20:21
Fazer2LarstiQ, jyoder: so do I really have to read through all of this?  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PackagingGuide/Complete20:22
jyoderok, so this section on appending a ubuntu series should probably be referenced on the https://help.launchpad.net/Packaging/PPA/Uploading page20:22
LarstiQFazer2: ok, so let me amend that slightly. The server builds debian packages, so yes, you need to provide a working source .deb20:22
Fazer2LarstiQ: oh, I thouught .deb was binary only20:23
* maxb notes that technically, if it's source, it's not a .deb20:23
jyoderFazer2: I found it to be helpful to read most of it yes20:23
maxbFazer2: You are correct20:23
* LarstiQ sighs20:24
Fazer2maxb: so I have to prepare the source for the automatic build system20:24
maxbWell, uh, yes? Otherwise how it is going to know what to build? :-)20:25
LarstiQsource package, yes20:25
Fazer2oh, you know, just do make all :-P20:25
jyoderFazer2: yeah, you need 3 files, the source.orig.tar.gz the debian change diff, the .changes file.  All of which is covered in the really long packageing complete guide :)20:25
Fazer2jyoder: ok20:26
jyoderthe build tools automate a LOT of it, as long as you're working with a package someone has already "debianized"20:26

jyodersorry to ask this again, but just to be SURE...  I can't just pass a command-line paramater to dput or dbuild to create/upload these things as "myapp_1.0-2~ppa1~intrepid1" and "myapp_1.0-2~ppa1~hardy1" right?  I have to manually edit the changelog 3 times, change the ~series and target series name each time, re-package with dbuild, and dput right?20:30
akheronjyoder: right20:32
jyoderouch20:32
wgrantjyoder: Are you sure you need to rebuild it for each release?20:32
jyoderoh yeah20:32
jyoderlots of kernel stuff... This is lirc20:33
jyoderoh well, c'est la vie.  Thanks!20:33
jyoderactually I'll probably just end up writing a Perl script to automate it all anyway since none of the existing tools do it for me :)20:35
jyodermaybe I'll add that tool to my PPA...20:35
lifelessjbicha: please ask the help contact for such things20:40
lifelessbarry: 05:45 < jbicha> lifeless: could you delete https://code.launchpad.net/~vcs-imports/kabikaboo/code for us, it's broken and we don't use it20:40
jbichalifeless: sorry, I saw your name as owner and didn't read the fine print first, thanks though20:40
barryjbicha: that doesn't exist.  do you mean this one: https://code.edge.launchpad.net/~vcs-imports/kabikaboo/trunk20:41
jbichabarry: no, another vcs-imports guy answered my question and deleted it for me, thanks20:42
barryjbicha: cool20:42

moradanhello, on saturday I have posted a request to get access to https://launchpad.net/gretl project at https://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad/+question/89969 I was told that it is the most proper way to begin a translation of this GPLed program on launchpad which seems to me as the most suitable tool for collaborative translation. However for about a month from the moment when we discussed the...21:03
moradan...idea of using launchpad and decided positively we can't start and I am in some strange situation as the main protagonist of launchpad among other people willing to translate - can anybody help me with starting the translation (I have already prepared the .po file)21:03
barrymoradan: are you sure that's question 89969?  that url seems to point to a totally different question21:07
barrymoradan: just to be sure, you are not https://edge.launchpad.net/~costas-magnuse right?21:08
moradansorry21:11
moradanhttps://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad/+question/9207521:11
barrymoradan: my understanding is that you need to work with the project owner to enable translations of that project.  the reason being, if they do translations upstream in a different system, then we (launchpad) want to be good citizens about merging their translations with ones done in lp21:11
barrymoradan: so that best thing i can suggest at this point is clicking on ~costas-magnuse's url above and then "Contact this user" to ask them about it21:11
moradanI have discussed that with developers21:11
barrywhat did they say?21:12
moradanI have wrote to him about 20 days ago21:12
barrymoradan: and what did he say?21:13
moradanDevelopers wished me goodluck in translating help system into russian with any suitable tools as it is not started yet and it seems that nobody except me plans to begin it21:13
barrymoradan: cool. do the upstream developers own the launchpad project?  or is costas-magnuse unrelated to the upstream?21:14
moradanI have some friends that are familiar with very spcecialized thematic of this program (econometrics) but I need to provide them with a suitable tool to translate21:14
moradanhe is registered in the devel-mailing list but he wrote to it several years ago last time21:15
moradanand he didn't replied to me from 3 his emails that i found21:15
barrymoradan: i do not have permission to make any changes here.  our admins can re-assign the project to new owners but we'd prefer to hear from the upstream owners.  can you get one of them to submit a question here: https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/launchpad21:16
barrymoradan: have them explain the situation and if possible, provide some way to prove authenticity.  then we can assign the project to them (or their representative) and that person can then enable translations in launchpad21:17
moradanthanks for suggesting this way - I'll write to the developing mail list now21:18
barrymoradan: cool.  if you have any problems, let us know.  you can also use answers to track the issue21:19
moradanSorry again, so it isn't enough the thread about using launchpad in gretl's mailing list?21:22
barrymoradan: that would help, but i think our admins would really like a request from the upstream maintainer21:25
barrymoradan: unless they want to delegate that to you, in which case a question to that effect and an email in the mailing list would probably do trick21:26
moradanthanks21:26
mtaylorthumper: if you look at https://code.edge.launchpad.net/~mordred/drizzle/remove-hash-alias/+merge/15502, you'll notice merge conflict markers in the diff, except they aren't in my local copy of the branch...21:29
thumpermtaylor: if they are not in the local branch, what do you get if you do a preview merge into trunk?21:38
mtaylorhrm. that's a good question...21:38
mtaylorthumper: yes. you are right. thanks!21:39
mtaylorthumper: I hadn't considered that21:39
mtaylorneat21:39
thumper:)21:39
moradanbarry, should we start a new question about gretl or it is better to continue posting to the old one? https://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad/+question/9207521:44
barrymoradan: let's use that one.  do you still need a delete of rugretl?21:48
moradanI thought that it is prohibited to have more than one project for a single program21:49
moradanand of cause we need only one21:49
barrymoradan: yes, we don't want projects just for translating other projects21:50
barrymoradan: i'm not sure who approved rugretl, but it probably should not have been approved.  do you know ivan sopov?21:51
moradanI am Ivan Sopov21:51
barrymoradan: oh!  /whois didn't tell me much :)21:51
barrymoradan: let's do this.  use the original question and then if things work out we can delete rugretl.  sound okay?21:52
moradanI created rugretl by mistake, and as far as I understood it hasn't been approved yet21:52
moradanyes it is21:52
barrymoradan: actually, it has21:53
moradanso the project was approved and the .po-file wasn't (it has status "needs review" - however i already have a newer version - i corrected some mistakes in generating the .po-file and there were several additions to the help system on sourceforge)21:57
barrymoradan: i would not add new po files to rugretl.  let's get gretl figured out first.  otherwise you may end up throwing away work21:58
moradanI'm waiting to the reply from developers (the head of development wrote to the list 20 minutes ago, but he not always participate in issues not connected with adding new functionality or fixing bugs). I'll write to the answers. Thanks a lot.22:02
asabilhi all22:11
Ngdamn that hot bugs thing is confusing22:42
NgI keep thinking "wow did I fix loads of... oh, no it's not a complete list"22:42
Davieyyes!22:46
