[01:28] evening all [03:30] hello all.... [03:30] nixternal: you present or just cruising? [03:31] both :) [03:31] ogra, i see ur on the lubuntu testing list [03:31] cool... [03:32] highvolt1ge: i see ur on the list as well [03:32] nixternal: was wondering what you thought of having a 'distinguished educator' program [03:33] http://edcommunity.apple.com/ali/story.php?itemID=9671 [03:33] for an Apple example [03:33] that's pretty groovy [03:34] I figure it would highlight success stories... generate interest... reward those advocating and using FOSS in education [03:39] there are some really cool articles on that page actually [03:39] I am going to pass this on to kde-edu folks to look at [03:39] nixternal: thanks [03:40] also -- the NYSCATE event went well... [03:40] and I think I may be able to pull together a 'team' to give a full day hands on 'class' with Ubuntu and Open Source applications for next year [03:41] http://nyscate.wikispaces.com/Educational+Technology+and+Equity+in+Today%27s+Schools [03:42] figures, flash died on me :) [03:42] need the last few lines I typed? [03:44] nixternal: did you get the link or should I give it to you again... not sure if you are web IRC or not [03:45] I got it [03:45] irssi all the time :) [03:46] yes, that is what I am using... though I am a novice with it still [03:49] nixternal: how possible do you think it would be to get some $$$ for Ubuntu/Canonical to do the larger EdTech shows? like ISTE? [03:49] http://center.uoregon.edu/ISTE/2010/ [03:50] that I have no clue [03:53] are you familiar with ISTE? [04:01] nixternal: is RichardWeiderman still around? [04:10] last I heard he is gone...he left right after UDS Jaunty [04:10] not familiar with ISTE [04:10] check ISTE out if you can... has anyone repalced Richard? [04:10] not that I know of... ogra would know though [04:11] ogra? [04:11] he is in this channel, he works for Canonical and knows everyone there [04:12] bbiab...gotta get a hold of this torn apart laptop :) [04:12] ogra: ping... are you home? [06:53] !info italc-master lucid [06:53] italc-master (source: italc): Intelligent Teaching and Learning with Computers (master part). In component main, is optional. Version 1:1.0.9.1-0ubuntu16 (lucid), package size 1081 kB, installed size 1680 kB [16:50] Morning all [18:42] morning sbalneav [18:48] Heya [21:50] dinda: you here? [21:50] hello ogra [21:51] did you guys read this article: http://news.slashdot.org/story/09/12/03/2157250/Children-Using-Technology-Have-Better-Literacy-Skills [21:52] bah [21:52] direct link to the article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8392653.stm [21:52] bah? [21:53] expression of frustration [21:53] because I pasted the wrong link [21:53] interesting article... similar 'research' here in the states [21:54] mhall119|work: what do you think of Canonical having a distinguished educator program? [21:54] http://edcommunity.apple.com/ali/story.php?itemID=9671 [21:54] similar to that [21:54] cprofitt: that would be good, I think [21:54] Never happen [21:54] why would it never happen? [21:54] I understand that there is a strong desire in Canonical to do more in education and schools, but no real ideas yet as to how that would manifest [21:55] well... to be honest I think I can help that... at least in the states [21:55] they need to go to ISTE - IMHO [21:55] We used to have at least a couple of people who were paid by Canonical to work on Edubuntu. [21:55] and do something to acknolwedge teachers who are utilizing Ubuntu/Edubuntu and open source [21:55] They're not anymore. [21:56] sbalneav: I have heard that... [21:56] ISTE? [21:56] Edubuntu's a "community" distribution. I.e. we support it ourselves with no support from Canonical. [21:56] http://center.uoregon.edu/ISTE/2010/ [21:56] other than using their infrastructure. [21:57] I attended NYSCATE and have more planned for next year... http://www.nyscate.org/conferences.cfm?subpage=361 [21:57] Perhaps Canonical would re-think that if we have some concrete plans... and it showed progress [21:57] cprofitt: there's a huge conference happening in Orlando soon for educational software providers and the school officials who purchase them [21:57] I am not sure what the other folks did. [21:57] mhall119|work: yes... that one is another huge one... [21:57] ISTE is likely a little bigger I think... [21:57] cprofitt: like I said, Canonical wants to do something, they just don't know what that something is [21:58] cprofitt: I thought about trying to get a booth at the Orlando expo, but good god are they expensive [21:58] * sbalneav goes back to working on bugs... [21:58] mhall119|work: yeah... NYSCATE was $750 [21:58] If we don't get the next release out the door, there won't BE an edubuntu :) [21:58] cprofitt: this was like $3500 [21:59] I got a free one at EdTech Day... and I think that it is possible due to many educators being in to FOSS to arrange deals to reduce the cost. [22:00] I think I have a shot of getting a booth for free at next years NYSCATE [22:03] ... good talking to you both... I gotta run...
