|moe|is there a tool in kubuntu to partition free diskspace and tell the system to mount this partition on a specific mountpoint on ever boot?00:12
JediMasterhey guys, I've just got an Asrock ION 330 system (Nvidia ION chipset - nvidia 9300M graphics, Intel Atom 330), it's sold as being able to play 1080p video, but I can't even play 720p without it dropping at least every other frame, any ideas?00:41

mofuxhi, anyone knows of a ppa for kde 4.4 beta 1 ?01:30
watrI am trying to access an OSX share in my kubuntu. Using the dolphin file manager I have gotten to see the publicly visible folders on my OSX box. Now, how do I set-up authentication so when I open that network forlder, Dolphin uses a user/password in connecting to the share?01:45
BugsbaneSystem settings -> sharing01:46
BugsbaneIt says "windows shares" but it's Samba (what MacOS uses)01:46
BugsbaneHey, is KDE 4.4 beta 1 going to be packaged, given beta 2 comes out in just 2 weeks?01:47
watrBugsbane: do I need to restart anything after entering the new authentication info?01:48
JontheEchidnaBugsbane: it's being worked on. Phonon is being a bit problematic at the moment...01:49
JontheEchidnaThe phonon maintainer is writing a patch for Qt's phonon to enable it to work with KDE 4.4, but until then we're sorta blocked01:49
BugsbaneSo rough guestimates for that would be beta 2?01:49
JontheEchidnadunno. We could probably be done in a few days max if the Qt patch landed on our door right now01:50
Bugsbanewatr: Tell the truth, I don't know. I don't really use Samba, but I'd seen this...01:50
JontheEchidnabut we have no clue when the phonon maintainer will be finished, so...01:50
BugsbaneTime to get out the whip, huh ;-)01:51
JontheEchidnahehe01:51

BugsbaneKDE > Exams01:51
watrSeems when I change the authentication info in System->shares it now no longer shows the OSX share at all01:52
BugsbaneSorry watr ,that's about the limit of my knowledge :(01:52
BugsbaneAlthough I'd say it's probably something to do with configureing samba.conf01:53
watrHas anyone else worked with shares in KDE?01:53
WalzmynShould users be able to copy files out of other user's /home ?01:53
BugsbaneNot without permission01:53
BugsbaneYou can change permissions on the home folder though01:53
Walzmyn's what I thought Bugsbane, but they're able to here01:53
Bugsbanewhat happens if you right click on your home folder and do properties -> permissions?01:54
WalzmynBugsbane: others can view01:54
BugsbaneHuh... they can on my box, too :/ Odd01:55
BugsbaneWell, I can't speak for details but you can change that01:55
WalzmynI just set up a second account and was seeing what they could do and thought it was a little much01:56
Bugsbanesudo chmod -R 700 /home/users-folder01:56
Bugsbanereplace "users-folder" with their folder name01:56
Bugsbanemakes it that a user has full access to their stuff but no-one else can see anything in it01:57
WalzmynBugsbane: I want "group" to be able to read the files, but not execute or modify, what'd the number for that?01:57

BlueX_considering that kubuntu has more features why do people use ubuntu more?05:50
Roastedgnome is just the default window manager of ubuntu05:50
Roastedit was made that way simply because mark shuttleworth, creator of ubuntu, preferred it05:50
RoastedI was on ubuntu for 4 years, and only recently came to kubuntu05:50
BlueX_why did you switch?05:50
Roastedbecause gnome is moving towards gnome shell, being released like this time next year or something05:50
RoastedI tried out the alpha stage of it and I didnt like it that much05:51
Roastedso I tied KDE cause I just felt like gnome shell wouldnt be as popular as the current gnome release05:51
Roastedit had a lot of problems and I emailed the developers with suggestions and they didnt seem too concerned about user opinion and just seem to think their ideas are better or something05:51
Roastedwhich pissed me off05:51
tsimpsonthis discussion would be more appropriate in #kubuntu-offtopic05:51

Roastedbluex_ youll come to find all ubuntu/kubuntu related chat rooms are ungodly anal.05:52
tsimpsonBlueX_: yes, that's why we have #kubuntu-offtopic where you can chat about pretty much anything05:53
RoastedIf you have a problem with samba on ubuntu, you have to ask int he samba chat, teven though its on ubuntu05:53
tsimpsonRoasted: stop it05:53
Roastedif you have a problem with nvidia drivers on ubuntu, ask in nvidia, even though its on ubuntu05:53
Roastedtsimpson, gag me, people talk about these chats all the time in terms of how nazi driven they are, its ridiculous05:53

Logan_LockwoodHi21:23
Logan_LockwoodWhy is the installing procces (Kub 9.10) so slow? (I mean the part when its asking you thing about the installation?21:24
Loadusd0nus, in KPackageKit > Settings > Edit Software Sources > Kubuntu Software21:27
d0nusoh damn it. now i got it... thanks :D21:29
B_RavenI've been having some annoying issues with my wireless in 9.10, worked perfectly in 9.04, but for some reason it's been really buggy since I upgraded. First off I need to manually set it to 54M, MSN won't even connect anymore, signal strength is low even with a new directional antenna, at times the wireless takes ages to send/recieve anything and at seemingly random times the wireless card will just drop out and refuse to find any networks a21:40
B_Ravent all.21:40
B_RavenThe chipset I have is the rt2561/rt61 rev B.21:40

Logan_LockwoodCiertamente, en Google no conseguí a nadie quejándose de la lentitud de instalación. Así que debo ser sólo yo.21:50

RiotingPacfisitgeopol: it should prompt for them23:53
geopolthat's the point no prompt,,,install updates click apply, clisk ok to dependencies, starts to install and then sub windows with "you do not have the necc privs I'm the admin i see this problem all over goole searches but no solutions23:55
RiotingPacfisitthe workaround is to update manually or run kpackagekit as kdesudo kpackagekit, the bug is probably with policykit policy or packagekit configuration23:58
geopoldo you mean "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade"?23:59
